This is kinda the best place to post this, it should get it's own thread as it's not about connecting to #fc etc. like this is.  Over the past while (not sure how long), a lot of the op system has broken down, ops hold grudes against users, theres a bit of abuse on the side, and some people are really unhappy.  This is a proposal to relive the tension.

I'm proposing that we dissolve the members of the access list, to start with, so everyone (bar Marc and Slimmy, as founders) is on a level field.  Then I propose that we take nominations for ops and halfops again.  Have it so every person may nominate 3 people, allocting the first preference 3 points, the second 2 points, and the 3rd person with 1 point.  To be eligible I'm suggesting that each candidate must be nominated by 4 others in 1st preference.  You cannot nominate yourself, or vote for yourself.  Then you tally up the votes, and try and establish an amount of ops and halfops from there.  If the vote was to occur, you would need to ensure that you are voting in someone in 1st place from your timezone (when you're on) so that each portion of the day has some op coverage.

Hopefully then a group of ops may be established that everyone can be happy with, and there isn't as many complaints  :)

I'm suggesting it as an idea initally, open to adjustment (particularly on the number side) so I'm not putting in my vote unless others like this idea of dissolving the ops.  Also, I'm not claiming authority, it's a suggestion in the suggestion box.

The chatroom is a despotic regime, not some kind of hippie democracy.

If you got problems with certain ops, talk to them and then to someone who got time to do something (like thinking) about it.

Becoming Op is not some popularity contest.

^^^my thoughts exactly.

more information...

-about "popularity"... the most popular people usually are the people who are loved for their non-leader qualities. with girls it'd be apperance which is not in a any way a good operator quality. operator is a job.

-complaints... marc's completely right, BUT... "complaints" doesn't mean bad remarks in the main room. i am not blaming anyone right now, i am just making sure everyone understands. if you have a complaint about my job, first of all, PM me. i will NOT accept any "you're a bad operator" statements in the main room. also, i won't accept just "you're a bad operator" - explain to me what in your opinion i did wrong and get some proof. i hope it's clear now; if you don't like something - contact me and we will discuss it.

-warnings... the easiest thing to understand. if i said don't do that - don't. i won't care if you don't agree, most of the rules were not created by me. if you still don't agree - contact me and we will talk about it *later*. usually, i warn 2 times. after that it's a kick. ~2 kicks and it's a one day ban. joining when you're banned will make everything just worse for you. just like on PEEL. if you're banned - stay out.

-/kick-s... if i think you deserve it, you will get it. sometimes we (operators) use kicks as jokes. please...DON'T take it too seriously. it's just an internet chatroom, afterall. auto-rejoins are annoying and you might end up with a short-term ban if you have it (i don't do that usually, but other ops might...). if i kicked you, there's always a reason (if it wasn't a joke) and it's never *just* hate. of course i don't love everyone, but hate is not a good reason,  there's always something more. i know mic was talking about me when he mentioned ops that hold grudes but i wouldn't be talking about that being him. everyone will agree me and other ops warned him 1000 fucking times, but he still didn't stop.
anyway, if you have any questions - contact me.
and mic get the idea - no one will change anything just because you don't like it. ok? good.

I think you have to have a certain kind of attitude to be a moderator. A kind of attitude where you know to assert yourself, but also not to go over the line. If you stay long enough, and you seem to fit that description, I'm sure the people who run this board will take notice and give you the power.

Some of the ops do abuse their power.  But this whole re-election idea is laughable, and as mArc says, it'd turn it into a popularity contest.

I haven't noticed the ops being overly strict in there, they seem to do a good job  :)

Congratulations on this post, Tweek. I can say that I fully agree and I couldn't have put it any better.

...and if anyone says the opposite, it's a ban!

I wish I'd realized we were talking about the chat when I posted the first time. I don't think I ever met a mod there, seeing as I got yelled at a lot the second time I went in there.

Maybe I'll mosey on over now...
