Now that Futurama's over, and The Simpsons crapped out ages ago, I wonder if this will open the door for a new show. Matt's talked about the possibility of a new show in the future. I was just wondering, if there ever is a new show, do you think it could top Futurama or not?  :)

Before Futurama, I thought The Simpsons could never be topped. But Futurama sure showed me. But I wonder if it's possible to get even better again? Somehow I doubt it myself, because it'll be a different program, and although I'm sure it'll be clool, I love the sci-fi in Futurama. That's just my opinion, but all that could change  :)

I hope Matt does do a new show.  With the staff of writers and animators he has, he could do a show about just anything adn it would be good.  You are right, though, the sci-fi is the greatest.
I'd rather they start Futurama up again.  I know, it's selfish and a pipe dream but, here's hopin'!

You can't really answer a question like that before seeing what the new show is.

I have very little doubt that a new show would top it's genre. The main issue is which genre it would be. Of course, I'd tune in to watch it and give it a fair chance.

I'm pretty much in agreement here. Futurama will always be near and dear to me, because I'm such a big sci-fi fan. That is what originally got me into the show, but then I fell in love with the characters.

I'm sure I would enjoy another show by Matt Groening, but it's hard to imagine it surpassing Futurama in my mind.

Even though I think a new show would be good, I really dont think for me personally, that it'll be able to top Futurama. Its my favourite show and has been since it started. Its just so unique and funny and he'll be hard pushed to come up with anything better. Even though its been cancelled, its not gonna cease to me my favourite program. I think it always will be  :)

And also, just the fact that Futurama is indeed a sci-fi will make it even harder to top because you can just do so many things in and with sci-fi. You can get away with all sorts and practically anything is possible. So you can make it funny in an unbelievable amount of ways. As we've all seen  :)

So nope, I dont think Futurama can be topped, not in my opinnion anyway  :)

It could equal Futurama and The Simpsons, but I just can't see it being topped. Also, when/ if a new show does arrives, don't judge it by the pilot episode. As good as Space Pilot 3000 was, Futurama took a while to become completely untouchable and in a league of its own. Although saying that, I was hooked in the first 5 minutes!

I agree with ye, Otis. I was always a big sci-fi fan, and I think Futurama was just a perfect combination of being sci-fi and making fun of sci-fi that it just struck such a perfect chord with me from the beginning. It was instantly my favorite show.

Of course, Season Three was when Futurama really became cemented as my "eternal" favorite show. At a time when I was full of love for a girl and was being shot-down on an almost daily basis, a time when I was constantly lonely and in need of friends, Futurama was always there to make me feel better (Think Fry's speech in "Where no Fan has Gone Before", but less pathetic).

In conclusion, which I have no doubt that whatever show Matt comes up with next will be brilliant, I don't think any show could ever exceed Futurama in my eyes.

Yeah, you're right BNLbum, it probably won't matter how high quality Matt's next show is, it's just the fact that it's won't be Futurama!

Any show can be topped, regardless of whether the original or the successor is a Matt Groening show or not.  That said I have full faith whatever Groening comes up with will be awesome, so its overall irrelevent to me whether I think it tops Futurama (though it certainly could I'm sure).

Im not too concerned as weather it will be better. Id just like to see another show from Matt on the TV. Its a automatic ratings grabber for the networks and a no doubt winner for the fans as well. I say get to work!!! lol

Futurama, as a sci-fi cartoon cannot be topped in my heart. There won't be a show better than Futurama, but there can certainly be a new favorite in another genre. I've got an idea. Matt could try a paranormal toon. That'd be neat to see.

Can another show by Matt Groening top Futurama?  It'd be hard pressed for it to do so in my opinion, but, if he could get a lot of the same team of writers, actors, and the right production, along with a network that really tries to do it right, it could certainly become a bigger ratings hit.  But, could it top Futurama in my heart, no, I don't think that it could.  :(

The humor in Futurama and the Simpsons works is pretty much the same way, a lot of character driven stuff, eg Farnsworth's so old, Bender's so kleptomaniacal, Fry's so callow, etc. The formula would work for any genre, but do I really want to see a Matt Groening creation set in Elizabethan England, or as a Western? Not really; I'd rather watch season 6 of Futurama (a man can dream, can't he?)
