Not a lot, no. But I check PEEL every day. And there are the occasional return of a member, who posts in a few threads, and disappears for a few weeks only to return again.
It's like a modern Republic of Letters. A good discussion need not be quick.
There already exists a PEEL Discord. I don't have a link for you, unfortunately, but I am sure some of its members could provide that.

Ah, Svip, PEEL’s resident Luddite poet. It’s true that the Discord is pretty active (no thanks to me), but I do share Svip’s affinity for the ol’ forums, quiet though they may be. I accordingly try to poke my head in every month or so, just to see what’s what, and I think that’s true of a lot of users.

I pop in most days to see if anything is happening; usually there isn't.

It would appear we now have an answer to this question... For real, it's wild (and exciting!) how many PEELers of yore have come out of the woodwork in the past few days to comment on Futurama's revival. Now we just have to keep the momentum going, and we'll be back in business.

I actually like how small and limited PEELers are now. PEEL is ancient by internet standards. It looks nearly the same when it did when it launched (probably, I didn't know about PEEL until 2005-ish to be honest). Space Jam's website can no longer say that. Us users that have registered before Futurama was cancelled in 2013- we're the elders of the Futurama fandom. We were such big fans to have signed up for a forum dedicated entirely to a single series and the weirdos like us who still post today can reminisce about how the old days were. We dispense valueless wisdom!
Now we'll have to segregate PEELers by when they signed up. There's the first generation of PEELers like Tweek and -mArc- that have been posting before zoomers were conceived. There's PEELers like me and Gorky that joined in the second run (maybe I'm first generation- I lurked since around 2005 and joined half a year before the first movie was released). Now we got the third generation- for the majority of this class, this will be the first and probably only time they will join an internet forum dedicated to a single franchise.
Also, it's so exciting that now we have three (or five) eras to Futurama: 1st/FOX Run -1st Hiatus- 2nd/Comedy Central Run -2nd Hiatus- 3rd/Hulu/Streaming Run (watch Futurama go to Disney+ in a few years)

I imagine I'll be posting occasionally now that the Hulu revival seems to be a go. This is my second post this year. My most recent post prior to that was in 2015. And then only once that year. Been a while.
The way I figure it, this is Futurama's 4th iteration. 1st run DVD movies (I put this in a separate entry because when the 1st one came out, I don't think there was any guarantee that the series was coming back.) Series revival (Comedy Central) Series revival (Hulu)

When was it not a lousy year?

There's always a mix of positive and negative developments. From a mostly US-focused view I'd suggest 1976.
We celebrated ~200 years of independence, far longer than any of the founders of the country ever imagined.
After the incredibly stupid decision to go all-in on a war against Vietnam rather than forging ties with Ho Chi Minh when he reached out to us, America tried to put the fiasco behind us.
Woz and Jobs founded a little company which would strongly influence the technology revolution.
Tachy moved into a place by himself for the first time and got a taste of responsibility and freedom.
We had a presidential election with reasonable candidates.
In aerospace, the first space shuttle rolled out (though it was a test platform and never launched) and the first supersonic commercial transport airplane took flight. Viking arrived at Mars.
Cracks started appearing in South Africa which would eventually bring a close to the apartheid era.
Ended, the Cod Wars were.
Laser printers became a thing.
The VHS era dawned.
Humanity is objectively horrendous, but if I had to pick a less-awful year, I could do worse than 1976.

https://www.worldatlas.com/articles/what-was-the-cod-wars.html The Cod Wars were a series of conflicts between Iceland and the United Kingdom over rights to fish in the North Atlantic. Iceland won in all the conflicts. The last Cod War was experienced in 1976, and it ended with the UK agreeing to relinquish a 200 nautical mile fishing zone to Iceland when Iceland threatened to quit NATO.
