In the first 1999 Wired article Matt Groening said:

"The Simpsons is still on TV a thousand years from now. With original episodes. And the fans on the Internet are complaining that the last 500 years aren't as good as the first 500."

This has yet to be mentioned in Futurama. It should have appeared by now and by the looks with the "cancellation" it never will.

I remember reading about that too, even before I watched "Space Pilot 3000" I heard about that. I was expecting The Simpsons to come on regularly while everyone's watching TV, but after the first season I guessed it must have been thought of as a bad idea. I prefer watching Elzars cooking and All My Circuits though. The closest that Futurama's got to showing The Simpsons on TV was in the beginning credits to "Fry & The Slurm Factory".

The one show that I remember Matt mentioning all the time in interviews before the series aired was "Mass Hypnosis Hour".  We have yet to see it in an actual episode, though it does have billboard in the opening credits.

When Futurama started there was a big thing about "the Simpsons will still be running in 1000 years' time".  I've got the September 1999 edition of Sky's monthly magazine here, and on the front cover is a picture of Fry watching "The Simpsons", while zooming round on a hoverbike with Leela.

Anyways, today's episodes should reach Omicron Persei 8 in about a 1000 years' time.

"This is an outrage! We have no interest in the human gas salesman and his loved ones! Return the foulmouthed robot at once!"
