On the episode the "Devils Hands are Idle Playthings", the sign outside the opera says "mhop"... I have heard of ihop (international house of pancakes- my Dad lives in America now :)) but I can't seem to make a connection really to understand what the joke is trying to say. Can anyone tell me??

Quote from: Infosphere article for The Devil's Hands Are Idle Playthings
The name of the opera hall where Fry's opera debuts is MHOp (Metropolitan House of Opera), a reference to both IHOP (International House of Pancakes) restaurants and the Metropolitan Opera House in New York City.

In the commentary David X Cohen* admits that it's not really a joke as such but… oh, just get the DVD and listen for yourself.
