I think the same. I'm from germany and I don't like the german Version of Futurama. It's totally wrong translated. My favourite is "Dieses unheimliche Hupen", too. That's abig piece of shit. Visit http://www.combrinck.com to see who did all that!

Speaking of dubs and stuff, I DLed a "How Hermes . . ." that has some kind of subtitles. My friend who's taken some German determined it wasn't German. Some examples:
Bureaucrat schaal 5 = Bureaucrat grade 5 Let hat spel beginnen = Let the games begin Lintworm = tapeworm Beste vriend = best friend
Anyone want to shed some light?

Yes, that's German, but stuff like: Bureaucrat schaal 5 = Bureaucrat grade 5 Let hat spel beginnen = Let the games begin Lintworm = tapeworm Beste vriend = best friend isn't. That's definately Dutch or Flemish, IMHO. Originally posted by [-mArc-]: "Krieg auf Spheron-1" is, "parasitten verloren" isn't really (the translated title is "Im Reich der Parasiten" ). "Parasitten Verloren" was merely me taking a qualified guess as to how they'd translate the title (I hate seeing a good pun lost due to translation, it's the same thing in Denmark).

German fans, post some of the horribly mangled translations. I find them hilarious. We simly call them IVARs (Ivar Combrinck is the german "translator" for Futurama and TheSimpsons - so if you ever come across the phrase "einen Ivar bauen" or "to pull an Ivar" - this means someone made a translation-error you could identify without knowing the original version. With "gespenstische Glückseligkeit" one of my favourites has allready been mentioned. Other great Ivar's: O: Ctrl+Alt+Delete I: Alternativkontrollöschung Ivar seems not ever to have heard of this shortcut - so he made the up the word "Alternativecontrolldeletion" which makes exactly as much sense in german as it does in english. O: The Golden Age of Muttonchops I: Das Goldene Zeitalter der Hammelrippchen Hammelrippchen means mutton-loin-rips - whell done, ivar! O: Execute function: Control-Shift-Kill. I: Exekutionsfunktionskontrolle ausfahren töten. Same as above - Some german futurama-fans once sent Ivar a language course - "english for beginners". Seems not to have arrived. "Execitonfunctioncontrol" doesn't make any sense but even worse: "ausfahren töten" means "extend kill" except it is grammatically wrong. Now i know, who translated my VCR's operating manual! O: The female Leela's problem is purely medical. I: Leelas weibliches Problem ist rein medizinisch. which translated back means "Leela's female problem is purely medical" - Ivar can't tell a noun from an adjective. O: Remember when those cyborgs enslaved humanitiy? I: Erinnnerst du dich, wie die Cyborgs die Menschheit verschluckt haben? meaning "Remember when the cyborgs SWALLOWED humanity" - I've seen better babelfish-translations. O: No, I'm comfy. I: Nein, mir reicht's. which means "no, i'm fed up" or "i've got enough of this" O: Baseball was as boring as mom and applepie, that's why they jazzed it up... I: Baseball war so langweilig wie Mom und Apfelkuchen; deswegen wurde es abgeschafft... meaning: "Baseball was as boring as mom and applepie, that's why it's been disestablished" O: I think the boy's got somethin'. I: An der Einlassung des Jungen ist was dran, gebe ich zu. You can hardly translate that back, because the german word "Einlassung" doesn't exist. (Inletting would come close though) Seems like Ivar's german is as bad as his english. Hey why not let Schwarzenegger translate some Series? O: Dungeons and Dragons I: Verliese und Drachen Yes - Dungeons and Dragons is called Dungeons and Dragons in German as well. Whell - i could go on and on - but many Ivar's are hard to translate back. Even more aren't really funny. Excuse my bad english - but at least I didn't claim being a translator.

Nice findings of Ivar there shooteminthebac. You forgot to mention that Ivar is also responsible for the German translation of FamilyGuy, which is aired now on Pro7. Horrible, plain horrible. We flamed Combrink quite often here, yet again he deserves every little bit of it, for each and every mistake he made, and you know that there is an endless amount of them. Search around and you'll find many threads where we talked about him, don't bump them if you don't have something more or less important to add, though. This one was fine. If you need advice on how things work out here, you'll possibly find this little FAQ quite helpful. After all, enjoy your stay here at Nerd-world.

Whell thank you very much!
Lately i noticed two more Ivars, when i watched Monk and CSI.
Monk: A environment activist chained to a tree was killed by a guy who chopped down the tree with a caterpiller. While he was killed he called the police with his mobile. Now the german dialogue as far as i remember: Stottlemeyer "Und er hat noch die Polizei angerufen?" Randy: "Ja, mit der Telefonzelle" German+english-speaking lads are loughing already i guess, for those who only speak english: "He called the police?" - "Yes with the phone-booth" Good equipped tree huh? - I guess the english original was cellphone - which would be Mobiltelefon or Handy in german.
The CSI-Ivar: A waitress is suspected of murdering a customer of hers, the implied motive: "Er hat ihr nie einen Tip gegeben" which means "He never gave her a hint." The translator didn't know the second meaning of the word tip, i suppose.
Now this was a little off-topic, but i'm gonna translate some more original-ivars again if i can spare some minutes.
