There was news about it, I talked to Matt Groening, he says "we're working on something". I think the hold-up is Fox is looking for somebody to pay for it. But they wanna do a DVD, and I've heard a lot about it, but it got to a certain point, and then I didn't hear anything, but I, you know, it's probably gonna happen. So that's what's going on with that... Cause I want to repriese those characters, that was my favourite show; I think that was the best thing I was ever involved in.

I came across this article on the Wikepeida encyclopedia this morning.
 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Futurama

At the bottom of the page it mentions the futurama movie.  To me, a listing in an encyclopedia is a very good sign.  Its still not a confirmation by Matt or Billy, but its something.

*edit* scratch that.  I didnt realise the encyclopedia could be edited by any old user.

Hey, I was just over at Billy West's forum and came across this post:

Good news everyone!
I just got an e-mail from David X.Cohen saying that things look very good
for the Futurama DVD's! He said we'll probably be starting up after new
years.I'm very psyched to get back together with all my friends again.I guess
this is a belated xmas present!

All happy now,
B.

Not to be Teral, but how many times have we heard this before?

Nonetheless, DXC seems to be getting more confident in the project's viability, rather than less, which is a very good sign.

Here's an idea of what the Futurama movie should be about:  How about something where the DOOP soliders and even Zapp and Kiff are all possessed by evil aliens and are headed to Earth on a space train.  And during a delivery, Fry, Leela, Bender, and the rest are all caught in the middle of it all.  Kind of like a 'runaway train' plot.

From what I heard on Billy West's message board, the movies are on their way!  So leave your skepticism and negativity at the door!

I know this has been posted on another thread but i found this link http://www.smh.com.au/news/tv--radio/off-the-planet/2005/12/10/1134086846734.html  which is about a month old. If you havent read it its worth a look at.

Oh i also found this http://media.filmforce.ign.com/media/048/048664/vids_1.html  im new and i havent read all 17 pages of this thread so i dont know if someone already posted this. He talks about the futurama movies about 4 minutes into the video for those of you who dont want to hear him talk about his new show billy bastard

one more link: http://www.variety.com/article/VR1117935453?categoryid=14&cs=1&s=h&p=0  quite recent and also talks about the possible revival of futurama

Kurt: that's the worst plot idea ever.  In the entire history of film.  I award you zero points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

Blane: thanks for using this thread.  I rather liked it, and felt it was falling by the wayside in favor of threads based on specific vague semi-confirmations like the Variety article. That post is a nice summary of the events that didn't get put in here before.

This is something I found in a womans magazine called Now in the TV section. It isn't about a movie but the artical is short and doesn't deserve it's own thread. If this is in the wrong thread, I apologise.

Back To The Future?
Cult TV show Futurama may win itself a revival after huge DVD sales of the series made US TV bosses rethink. The Simpsons creator Matt Groening developed the show in 1999, but it was cancelled in 2003. New episodes may now be made to cash in on the show's renewed popularity. Controversial cartoon Family Guy won itself a similar reprieve when DVD's of the show flew off the shelves, so here's hoping that Fry, Bender, Leela and the rest of the gang return to our TV screens soon, too.

Here's an in-depth Q&A with Fox's Peter Ligouri... aparantly negotiations to bring back Futurama have not taken place :-(  But it sounds like they're considering it.

There's also a lot of great quesions on Arrested Development.

"In terms of "Futurama," there haven't really been any active negotiations at this point."

that doesnt sound too good but i guess we'll just have to wait and see.

"But I'd be an ostrich to just stick my head in the dirt and not realize what's going on with "Futurama" as well" It does sound as though its becoming a family guy like issue in ragards to ratings and popularity etc, so we can only hope that it follows a similar path with a movie and/or a series revival. Good Find!

I already like this Peter Ligouri character much more than Gail Berman.

He said there haven't been any active negotiations yet, but he didn't outright deny that there have been discussions about the show, which I find somewhat encouraging.

In terms of "Futurama" -- there's no doubt that the "Family Guy" model worked outstandingly. It's great to be a network exec and have a decision made for you by an audience.

I actually find that quip more distressing for two reasons.  One, I'm not sure the Family Guy model is as outstanding as he claims, largely due to the dip in quality I've been hearing fans complain about.  Regardless of whether Futurama would befall the same fate or not, if he's basing the potential for Futurama's return on the success of Family Guy, and Family Guy fails in the long run, then there's going to be less incentive for the network to take another risk with this show.

Two: "It's great to be a network exec and have a decision made for you by an audience."

Given what the average audience seems to find "entertaining" these days, I don't trust that they'd help in this matter.  Of course, I could be underestimating them.  I hope I am.

Well, I think that his comments on the success of the "Family Guy model" were based more on the ratings it's getting now as opposed to the ratings it was getting pre-cancelation. All of which came down to Fox's inability to market the show, of course.

I reckon he talks about a negotiations regarding TV series and not DVDs, so it's not exactly surprising that these negotiations haven't entered some active state yet  :)

Not sure if all projects have to be negotiated. You usally negotiate if you disagree. It sort of makes sense that you could have advertising money from broadcast runs offset production costs even if you're ultimate goal is DVD sales. But it's the magical land of TV where logic may not apply.

Some level of negotiation will always be necessary even if you agree on the overall goal. There are still specifics to be worked out - how many episodes? Budget? Completion date?
