Futurama Nerd: I know about the DVD's I'm a lurker. I just wanted to know whether this situation is worth wondering about or should just be looked over without interest.

I believe the rumors, I know there "far fetched" but i think it could happen, any thing can happen since futurama is getting pretty good ratings on adult swim, on the other hand a show like american dad I still wonder how it ever got on fox.  It would have been way better bringing back futurama instead, well anyway unlike futurama it doesnt matter where american dad goes that show will always suck noodles  :D     Welcome to peel twisted metal katEnjoy your stay at nerd world  :D  :laff:

Hmmm, something has been posted on CGEF recently that seems to semi-support this rumor, but are they referring to the same thing? If so, then this "rumor" might be more accurate than we originally thought. However, the surrounding situation in which it arose was pretty suspicious, so ya can't blame us for doubting it at first. And who knows, it might still actually be false. We can only hope...

Id say we should start a fund or something, and send it to Fox to show them the fan base futurama has created, sales of family guy on dvd brought back the show, and even gave Seth M the edge to create american dad. Fox is a money hungry network.

FRY=$$$, you don't know if there is a Fox excutive on this message board right now, so don't say that about Fox. We don't like them, but without them, there wouldn't be Futurama.

Also, on the [as] Message Board, the Family Guy fans are all saying that Family Guy has amazing DVD sales and ratings, when Futurama has almost as good DVD sales and better ratings. I'm getting kinda annoyed by the FG fans, the ones that probally don't like Futurama that much or look down on Futurama.

I cringe every time someone mentions a "fund" next thing you know you'll be wondering who the guy was that you sent it to and where he lives (West Africa?). Those guys are in a mega-million dollar world so save your $ to buy a DVD.

Anyhow, at least the rumor hasn't been quashed officially like the others. Just wonder sometimes why a new rumor always coincides with a new DVD release. I hope we aren't being led down a Pavlovian path.

Is there any other show that has been a DVD only thing? Seems odd that they wouldn't at least recover some production costs by broadcast run advertising. Maybe they just want to avoid network content control hassles. Or going the traditional Movie>TV>DVD sequence yields an additional revenue stream.

Enh, I'm OK with n00bs. (We were all newbies once, y'know.) Or am I still considered new?  :hmpf:

Anyway, like I said, with CGEF semi-confirming this rumor, my hope has raised just that little bit more. Enough to make me excited. When the new DVD comes out, (the one with the "best-of" episodes) I'm sure as hell buying it. And also, "8 Simple Rules" was cancelled? o_O When did that happen? Or is it just that I've only recently crawled out from beneath my rock of studying for finals? Well, I suppose it's a blessing in disguise for giving Katey Sagal more time for voice-acting. Because Leela voiced by anyone else would be just...weird. Yeah, having the original voice actors is a must. Luckily, I think they all genuinely enjoyed it enough to want to come back. Yay.

From CGEF News:
renewed talk at FOX about bringing fresh Futurama content directly to DVD

It only says "fresh Futurama content". It does not specify new episodes, movies, or other content(music video, etc.). It could be almost anything that has to do with new animation. Most likely is to the movie idea. Let's just hope that the new "best of" DVD gets great sales to have that Fox top level to be talking alittle bit more.

I really hope they don't base their decision on the new best of dvd. I don't predict it doing very well. Most Futurama fans have bought the box sets and theres not enough new stuff on the dvd to really make it worth buying. 4 1 minute intros and only one new commentary and anamatic aren't enough to make people spend the extra money.

I'm buying it anyway. It's a good way to get friends into it and I would get it anyway. I've got all 4 sets, but I like how its all in one DVD rather than having myself have to switch DVDs just to get to these 4 episodes.

without going into details, I'd like to say that what CGEF "confirmed" wasn't related to anything posted on this topic specifically. we have a few sources of this "rumor" that are credible, rather than one guy who took a photo with matt g.

Agreed.  I already have all the episodes.  Can't see why I'd want the new package.  Incidentally, I didn't even know 8 Simple Rules was still on.

there's really nothing to confirm... It's 95% certain that fox and the futurama staff are indeed talking behind closed doors about bringing back futurama in some form.

95% sure!? That's good enough for me. Sound the cannons! Futurama will come back!...
Good news about that: They didn't say that about the NHL, and look, it's not back.
Bad News: NHL still in lockout.
Better News: NBA will probally have a lockout!

Hurrah!  In that case ... *plays the 1812 Overture, with emphasis on the finale, with the cannons, and church bells, and et cetera* to celebrate this victory over the French FOX.

Oh, wait ... you mean there's nothing for certain.  Either way, this DOES mean something, and it's good to read that CGEF blurb.  I for one know that Marc and Slimmy won't post anything that is false or doesn't have some strong evidence supporting it.  I'll remain cautiously optimistic, and keep a sharp eye out for anything new.

As I have said time and time again, Futurama would return.  As I have said time and time again, the process has already been set in motion.

It is now a matter of time, but a few more letters and anchovies wouldn't hurt  ;)

That's exactly what I was wondering about. That does improve chances of anything going on, but I'm not getting my hopes up just yet. I'll celebrate when I view the gang together again on my tv set - then I'll surely be ECSTATIC!

And what's this about a movie? Turning cartoons into 1.5 hour movies doesn't go well. It dilutes the quality of the plot, whose quick humor and fast-changing scenes that dominate Futurama as a TV show. Not to say I wouldn't prefer a movie, I'll take anything!!!

Time to go back into hiding.

Yeah, but Nick, you also spent 5 hours saying that you'd swallowed an 8-foot rocking horse. And that other time when you were convinced that your eyes were lizards, and we had to hold your hands down to stop you trying to scrape them out with a pen.

But, this all sounds like good news. Let's hope for the best.

I doubt "8 Simple Rules" living or dying would have much effect.  Other voice actors (like on Simpsons for instance) have held down regular and busy jobs on live-action tv shows and movies before without having to sacrifice their voice jobs.  Because its just a voice and they don't actually have to have all the actors on screen for it to work, voice actors can basically come in whenever they're available, and it doesn't take very long (that doesn't mean it doesn't take enormous talent of course, just that the schedule is very flexible and the actual process doesn't usually take too much time).  And if they only did a movie or two, as opposed to full seasons of episodes, it would go even more smoothly.

But anyway, thanks Bart.  What's interesting is that the "random guy talks to Groening" thing, despite apparently/likely being false, happened to coincide with some actual talks on the subject....
