What is your favorite reference to any other piece of science fiction in Futurama? There are a million really good ones. Any Soylent Green jokes are always funny. I guess my favorite is in Crimes of the Hot when the Professor says "A million robot lives are about to be extinguished...oh the Jedis are going to feel this one"  Anyway, thoughts?

I like the episode "Love and Rocket" for all of the "2001: S.O." references.

For the same reason, among other things, I like Put Your Head On My Shoulder, Godfellas and The Sting...

Although the 2001 references were neat too.

Does D&D count?  No?

Okay, then I have to go with 2001, particularly the song in Love & Rocket, plus the entire third act.

"If only I could read lips."

Those soda cans were just so random...oh well, at least we know they were Cokes and not something crappy.

I'll say that D&D counts. And while this is not so much fiction as just plain science, I really enjoy the fact that in Anthology of Interest I, Stephen Hawking is actually voiced by Stephen Hawking. Awesome.

Speaking of more sci than fi (and guys in wheelchairs, for that matter,) Arthur C. Clarke gets quite a few subtle nods.  The only part of Cryonic Woman I actually laughed at was when Bender put on the insect mask to scare the unfrozen old guy, because it appeared to be a takeoff of an ACC short story.  Can't recall the title, but it's in his collected works thingy.

And on the subject of guest stars, don't forget almost every living celebrity on the show is voiced by themselves except, I believe, Marv Albert and George Foreman.

The 2001 references were definately great. I think I'll go with that for now, it's hard to decide, there are so many good sci fi references in Futurama.

As Nerd-o-rama quoted before: "If only I could read lips."

It was in one of the comics, so it may not count but it was in # 16. Fry is being hounded by this drill sargent style coach and he runs by Leela and says, "Sorry, no time to talk. Mr. Deltoid has me doing a combined 5k run, 10k run, and the Logan's run!". Then one of the officer guys chases after Fry, shooting at him and yells, "Stop, runner!". Fantastic.

Actually, this thread is less about spotting Sci-Fi references then it is about stating ones favourites.

Eh, it's all in Mod's hands.

Oh, and incidently, my favourite Sci-fi shout out is the Decapodian national anthem. Te he he.
