Roight, I was just thinking. Chances are this has been posted before, but never mind.In The Devils Hands...etc, The Robot Devil is playing with his band, and they stop BUT the Robot Devil says: 'You hit a sour note 200 years back'. But Fry and Leela met the Robot Devil not more than 3 years back, and he wasnt playing then, was he? Unless theres a time-lapse thing in Robot Hell. Meh.

Since evil robots are stuck in Hell for all eternity maybe it causes them to forget exactly how long a year is, and it's caused the robot devil to mistake them for another form of time?

From The Neutal Planet:Robot Devel: You hit a sour note about 200 years back, Doug! [Doug, the Hellbot with the saxophone, hangs his head in shame.] He's not talking to Fry if the "he" you're referring to is Fry.

I mean 'he' as in that the Robot Devil wasnt playing when he met Fry and Leela, not Fry.

The Robot Devil simply forgot or chose not to chastise Doug 200 years ago when he hit that sour note. They probably don't play continuously.

It could also be a reference to the "eternal damnation" concept. St. Peter and, as a consequence, the Devil (or in this case, the Robot Devil) remembers everything no matter how trivial or distant, and it all weighs in when you're judged at the Pearly Gates. Doug may think that his small blunder 200 years ago went unnoticed but he was wrong.

The fact that he's already in Robot Hell doesn't mean anything. He can still be judged by the Robot Devil.

Actually all Star Trek aliens have their own language and alphabets, the English you hear on-screen comes from a handy little device called a Universal Translator. How their lip-movements matches the English words and not the alien ones, well that's a bit more tricky to explain.

i remember people from other countries asking questions about nixon so, just to clarify, there are two Grover Cleveland heads because he held the 22nd and 24th presidential positions. The 23rd was held by Benjamin Harrison (aka Bearded Dude in the middle) so that's the gaggy pun.

Oh wow, that's really quite cool, now I get the point about Xanfor saying it was a pun.

most of the jokes to do with american holidays and american history sweeps right over me. I don't have a clue. They need some British jokes! (and no, not scones, mary poppins and tea )

Yes. A show aimed primarily at an American audience and then syndicated globally should specifically pander to us Brits, because we're all too ingnorant to be aware of any political , historical, and/or cultural references that come from outside our own borders... The Internet is your friend. Look up thigns that you don't understand. Google and wikipedia between them can usually quench anything short of a full-blown manic obsession over any particular subject. Or, you could try being more aware of the most powerful country on Earth, and how things work there. Just a suggestion, I'm not going to back it up with violence or anything, because that would be just so American...

Good point totalnerduk, and very funny, wikipedia can be quite addictive. i'm from the US and the other day I was trying to find out what the hell "have a butcher's" meant. turns out it's cockney rhyming slang (for have a look ) which is a pretty odd concept. Take a phrase that rhymes with what you want to talk about and take out the rhyming part. If I go on this post is going to get even further away from me than it already has. LET'S SEE SOME GOOFS PEOPLE! [This message has been edited by 40megafonzies (edited 03-28-2007).]

Reminds me of when Monty Python was first shown in the US. Took me about 3 viewings to just understand what they were saying.

You're all pseudopathetic. I have a British accent, and I can understand me! Heck, even you can understand me! What's all the fuss about? You know, they really ought to have put in some 'Red Dwarf' references. They wouldn't have been very obvious, but the truly nerdy Americans would have gotten it. quote: Originally posted by totalnerduk:Or, you could try being more aware of the most powerful country on Earth, and how things work there.
