I know at least one other person was watching this show (chay maybe?). It's fairly compelling, although a little graphic... I miss doakes... Does anyone agree with what Dexter does? Is it understandble? Justifiable even? Was Harry right? Anyways... this is the thread about the Showtime/Showcase show Dexter.

I've seen a couple episodes of this show. Interesting idea. A serial killer as a cop. Not really my cup of tea though.

Gah, Spoilers plz!! I'm a few eps into season 2. It's funny how the show differs from the book. Season one isn't too bad, but by season two, it's a COMPLETELY different universe In the book, The ice truck killer is never a prosthetics guys, and never goes out with deb, he also looks exactly like Dexter (More or less) and we don't meet him untill the very end. For a while we think Dex could actualy be the killer.
In the end of the book, Lagureta(sp?) follows dex to the container yard, and it is here we find his bro with deb, and dex has to hold of from killer her, and in a quick turn of events, Laguerta re-appears, gets killed by dex's bro and then Dex's bro escapes. VERRRRY Differnt. Still love the show. I Love Michael C Hall, he was great as David in Six Feet Under and he's great as Dex.

A show which glorifies murder?
So there is something out there worse than Torchwood...

Dexter is going to show on ITV next week and I have heard about it and I know that some people likes it. I am going to watch it to see if I like it.

I haven't seen the whole series, but I have seen large portions of season one and most of season two. Doakes was probably my favorite character, but I also sympathize with Dexter's position. I also think Dexter's sister is hot. And murder isn't necessarily glorified in the show Xanfor... it's really more of a question about whether murder can be morally advocated, and to a certain extent I say yes. The show was semi-gory as I recall Books.... a lot of times they'll have Dexter in the same room when he's killing somebody, but they'll pan the camera away... this doesn't always happen. I think they could have gotten away with more, but they figured they were already pushing the boundaries on what would be acceptable to their target audience. The show also goes into depth about how we view ourselves as individuals with the introspective thoughts being verbalized by Dexter. It also starts to describe how we deal with problems and the anxiety we have when they arise. Doakes was probably my favorite.... season 3 has been confirmed.

It has only just started here on ITV, judging by the first couple of episodes it is pretty good. I enjoy the police part of the story more than his murdering though.

Yeah, I agree. I like the dynamic of the group in their work setting. If Dexter wasn't a serial killer, they could all work together and help give some solace to the victims of brutal crimes and live happily ever after. Also... Dexter's sister is hot. She's uber-hot.

The good of the many, etc. I suppose I can't argue with the premise of the show; that would mean denying that a person with mental issues such as Dexter could exist. He certainly could. But what I have a problem with is that someone would create a show which focuses on this person. A show that makes you stand up for the killer, an individual who's methods I consider to be far beyond sadistic. Why? It may be a good show, with philosophical points, but how does it affect the audience? How are you affected, however subconsciously, after watching it? How much has your tolerance for justifiable murder been widened? I would perhaps read a book on the subject. Maybe I will read the book. But I will not watch a series.
