I think it's just that getting things chopped off is funny in a cartoon. Matt Groening said he liked that (for example) the T Rex eating off Fry's hands, and a scene later he's exiting "Handcrafters", is like old Warner Bros cartoons where Elmer Fudd or Daffy loses an extremity, but a scene later its back - only in Futurama there's a technological explanation rather than it just being "Toon logic."

He also lost his teeth (Fry & the Slurm factory), hair (Luck of the Fryish), nose (Spanish Fry), and spleen (The Sting).
Yes, Fry's a little like Daffy Duck getting his beak blown off by a shotgun at point blank range and then putting it back on with a sour look on his face. He's that pissweak-yet-indestructible cartoon character who can get the living crap blasted out of him and keep getting up for more.

Something of Bender's falls off or is damaged in nearly every episode.

Perhaps because Fry is so easygoing he's almost comatose most of the time, it takes something like amputation to shake him up and get some emotional angst going. Plus, a limb hitting the ground with a splat like a dropped rib roast is unexpected...and therefore funny (in animation, anyway). But I don't understand "p!$$-weak but indestructable." Resilience IS a form of strength. (Or are you saying his p!$$ is weak because he drinks American beer? )

No, because he gets hacked to pieces easily and frequently, as opposed to being the one doing the dismembering.

I blew Zoidberg in half in my first fan-fiction. He was okay though. They taped him back together.

Zoidberg, however, appears to have multiple inbuilt redundancy.

That was the best gag in the whole film, it's the most hilarious gag Zoidberg's ever done intentionally. Oh, and it's not always Fry that cops it. In Anthology of Interest #1 in Leela's section alone, everybody else gets 'got' except Fry, who more or less scores. Eaten Alive. Yes. That must have been one of those 'gag' things I've been hearing about.

My bad. It wasn't so much ill-tempered as cynical. I have this overriding contempt for all things. Sorry.
