Update: THE TOADS HAVE IT!

Likely to be announced in July, with a December release, is Futurama Volume 8! Okay, so I'm jumping the gun a bit, but the blu-ray/DVDs are my favorite pieces of Futurama merch and I enjoy speculating and learning of pre-release tidbits like bonus content and commentaries.

Seeing as how this is the final release (for now) I think a franchise encompassing feature would be appropriate. Even a bonus commentary for the finale would be great.

As for whose face will grace the cover, my guess is Zapp Brannigan. The bulk of the PE crew has already had a cover: Fry, Leela, Bender, The Professor, Amy and Zoidberg. Hermes and Nibbler are also likely candidates, but I feel that Brannigan is far more popular than Hermes, and as the reissued volume 2 shows, secondary characters are not out of the question. Personally, I would have made Hermes the Volume 2 cover, and Zapp the volume 8. Morbo was just an odd choice. It's like making Kent Brockman the face on The Simpsons season 2 DVD.

Another note:

FOX series - 4 volumes

Direct-to-video movies - 4 releases

Comedy Central - 4 volumes

Hmmm....

Wouldn't it be Hermes on the Volume 8 cover?

Would it? Like I noted, volume 2 had Morbo, so it doesn't seem like they're going for the crew. And I'd think Zapp would sell more copies than Hermes.

The only ones I think they could use next are: Zapp, Hermes, Kif, Nibbler or Linda I guess, to match up with Morbo?

Mom is also likely. Also Hypnotoad.

Another thing to consider is that having Hermes on the cover is an excuse to include what is arguably one of Futurama's biggest icons: The brain slugs.

If you want my honest option though, I think it should be The Salesman who sells Zoidberg a hotdog in "Fear of a Bot Planet". He's everybody's favourite character!

Linda would never ever happen. But I could see Nibbler for sure. Not sure about the brain slug, just because they probably won't feature in season 7B. But it would be a nice touch.

Looking at all of them lined up, I'm surprised they went with Morbo so early on. Perhaps because he is a fan favorite? (and we all want his figure?)

Ha, we should get a pool going to see who will make the next cover. I bet 1 billion quatloos!

I'm not confident Zapp will make the cover, I don't think he's been as that "around" a character aside from the Munda episode...I'm leaning toward Nibbler or Hermes. Since it will be the *gasp* last cover, I'm interested to see which direction they go. Maybe they'll do a few characters as opposed to one? (then I could see Zapp being on it with characters like Mom). Haha I'd like to see Randy make the cover. That'd be humorous :laff:

While I have no facts to back this up, they could possibly do similarly-styled covers for the movies.

Hermes for BBS, Kif for TBWABB, Mom for BG, and Zapp for ITWGY. That could leave room for Nibbler or Scruffy on Volume 8.

I have a feeling since this is the last set it might break the mold and be a picture of Fry and Leela kissing or something, just in the same style.

But what UL said is spot on.

Also b/c each character shines in each movie he picked to have each specific charcter on the cover.
UL write FOX and tell em to release the movies on BD with those exact covers and I'm sold.

Not going to happen, but I would love Scruffy on there!!!

Out of the ones that would grace the cover, I'd say Zapp or Mom

Glad you noticed. ;)

Maybe I might design my own covers for the movies in that style one day.

The new cases look nice, but you have to slide the discs against the cardboard every time you take them out or put them in. :hmpf:

In Futurama video related news, now that Netflix does not offer Comedy Central programming, the four movies have been pulled from streaming. The series remains, due to FOX owning it, but it seems the movies will not be streamed anymore.

Meaning that the HD versions of Bender's Big Score and The Beast with a Billion Backs are no longer accessible. Now I really want blu-ray releases of the first two movies!

Good news!

I've since learned that they shifted the streaming versions of the movies to the series, and placed them in season 6's slot.

The movies themselves still have Netflix entries, but the only option is "DISC ONLY" despite being available to stream in the series itself. Weird.

Also, the movies as "season 6" are in the wrong order:

Also, they goofed with season 1 and 2, placing the last 4 episodes of season 1 at the front of season 2. :P

Seeing how the covers for each of the half Seasons on iTunes is the same as the DVD covers that come out later, Hypnotoad is pretty much confirmed to be the cover for Volume 8.

The Hypnotoad will probably sell better, though. It's almost like a symbol of Futurama.

Part of the post not related to USA nor UK:
I'm really hoping they are releasing volume 7&8 -DVD set here (as they did with 5&6) and I would like to see
Hypnotoad in cover. But realistically I'm hoping that they will be released not later than 1,5 years from now
or at all...

It's just odd that it's on Volume Eight's cover, when he was only in The Inhuman Torch so far.

It's not odd when you consider that the Hypnotoad is on of Futurama's most iconic characters.

Just it should have been Hypnotoad on Volume four because he was in more episodes. Amy on Volume Two and Morbo on Volume Eight

I think the inner-cover will be Bender, Fry and Leela sitting on a couch watching "Everybody Loves Hypnotoad" on the T.V, and in the DVD compartment, Fry fighting Sean

I'm betting it's going to be Hypnotoad. I mean, we already have evidence (thank you, amazon!) that it'll be him, so I'm gonna stick to that.
Some other nominees for the cover should be:
*Nixons Head
*Calculon
*The Robot Devil
*Robot Santa
or everyone's favorite........

Does anyone know when this set is actually going to be released? I saw at the top that it's supposed to be released in December, but does anybody know if that's true?

Put Hypnotoad on the cover, and on the back Zapp and Hermes crying.

They just might... but they won't be crying.
Are you suggesting That they'll be Kissing on the back cover?
Because that's just naastayy........

FOX series - 4 volumes

Direct-to-video movies - 4 releases

Comedy Central - 4 volumes

Hmmm....
Not to mention the last episode will be the 140th, and John DiMaggio Will be turning 45 on the day the last episode airs...

I am forming a conspiracy theory as we speak....

I hope it comes out this December, so I can make somebody buy it for me for Christmas.
(Is A Cheapskate)

I think that the December assumption is probably correct. Alot of companies release things in December in relation to Christmas, as sales are excellent at that time. Also, since the last one was apparently releasd in December last year, they'll probably keep the trend with this one.

I'm happy we won't have to wait too long to get this season on DVD, as i'm really enjoying it so far (other than the Saturday Mourning Crap Pit)

The Vol. 7 Zoidberg cover art was released in July 2012, before the season had even ended.
