Here it is! Got the picture from 'Futurama Live!'
It looks so awesome!

They also annonced a 'Complete Series' set!
Wow, that looks pretty great! I had guessed it would be Hypnotoad on the cover, so that's not a surprise for me, but I really like the color scheme they went with.

Imagine how pissed off Hermes is that he wasn't on a box set cover art but Zoidberg was.

A "Complete Series" set, huh? I just might buy that after it comes out.

I'm kind of tempted to go for a "complete series" as well, just for consistency.

I'm loving those colours, by the way. Is there any word on the kind of special features we'll be getting?

No pictures yet.... I hope it has some sort of Group Photo on the cover, either of just the PE crew or of all the main and some of the secondary characters.

I wonder if they'll release a set of all the Comedy Central run along with the Complete series set? That'd be useful for me, as I've already got seasons 1-4 and the movies, but I don't yet have the CC seasons on DVD.
Whichever way they do it, though, I'm definitely buying it!

I was kinda hoping they'd release the original 4 volumes on Blu-ray this time (yes I know they'd still be in SD, but you could fit a lot more episodes on the discs).

Even though I've gotten all of the movies and volumes, still looking forward to a sweet "complete collection".

How many episodes can they fit on those blu-ray discs?

I'd like a re-release of the First 4 seasons with new commentaries, myself. It'd be cool to hear what the show's team thinks about the earlier episodes after such a long time.

If Futurama returns, I'm guessing the character to be on Volume 9 is possibly Zapp Brannigan.

The Comedy Central-era blu-ray releases were all split over two discs (8 on one, 7 on the other). I believe the DVDs were divided this way too, though correct me if I'm wrong. I'm guessing lesser quality episodes may take up less room on a blu-ray disc, though?

For a cartoon there is far more than enough quality on BDs.

I always thought animation was the most spectacular thing you could watch in Blu-Ray, with the crisp line definition and rich, vibrant colours.... Live-action film will never quite look like real life, but animation in blu-ray is about as good as I could possibly imagine it getting.

I watched 6B and 7A in blu-ray and they were spectacular. But, this question pertains more to the transfer of Futurama's pre-HD days. Anyone out there who has seen, perhaps, one of the ol' standard def Simpsons episodes on blu-ray that can attest to its quality?

They could re-encode the source standard definition with the latest MPEG4 compression (over the MPEG2 on DVD) with uncompressed audio, put all of the extras on it and could fit the entire season on 1 Dual Layer 50GB BD (assuming the season was 500 minutes or so).

Versus the 4-5 episodes per disc on my "original" Futurama DVDs from 10 years ago.

Exactly... if the complete set is on BD I'm buying it for all the episodes in HD!
Even the old shows will be crystal clear, maybe not in true HD on those classics, but much sharper. And all the new episodes will be 1080p HD.

I try to tell people old non HD things can look better on Blu-ray b/c there is no compression (if done right) and they just look at me like I'm crazy.

It really is, remember back to those first round of DVD releases back in the late 90s.  Grainy and compression artifacts every where.  It wasn't until 2002-2003 when studios finally started to make more use of the 9.8mb/sec you get with DVD.  (Ignoring the Superbit releases which sometimes were just barely higher bit rate than the original releases, the DTS audio track was more worth it).

What are the odds of seasons 1-4 being on blu-ray for this complete collection set?

I'm giving serious thought to getting it in spite of my previous purchases.

I own seasons 1 and 2 on VHS, which, obviously, means that they're basically obsolete and unwatchable for me, now. I've been meaning to pick up the DVDs for ages, but I've just been getting by with other, possibly less than legal, means.

I own seasons 3 and 4 on DVD, but disc 1 of season 3 is scratched to the point that "Amazon Women in the Mood" isn't fully playable.

I own Bender's Big Score, but it's a region 1 copy of the DVD, which means that it's largely useless to me nowadays as I'm rarely in a position to use my multi-region DVD player like I was when I ordered it. (There was a 6 month wait for that to be released here in the UK and I wasn't as up on watching things through other means, back then - sort of crazy that 6 months was too long for me to wait given how long the wait has been for season 6B's release and how long the wait will likely be for 7A and 7B).

Then I own the other three movies on DVD and season 6A and 6B on blu-ray.

I could probably sell most of what I have and I'd really love to upgrade to blu-ray for my favourite show.

Some new special features would certainly sweeten the deal, though. What are the odds of any new special features being included, or do you think that they'll just, as I suspect, release the discs of the show that are already in existence in a new package.

I'd be willing to buy those VHS seasons from you should you sell them, assuming the price would be fair.

I'd also like some new Special Features, at least on seasons 1-4. I'd like it if they recorded ne commentaries for the older episodes, because It'd be cool to see what the show's creative team think of said older episodes after having so much more experience with the series. Or, even better, new commentaries about the old commentaries about the old episodes!

Are you based in the UK? Because if so, you're welcome to them (and if not, you probably won't be able to play them).

I'd definitely love new commentaries. More than anything, I'd love some new commentaries on the revived run. One of the more interesting things about the commentaries for me was hearing them respond to fan-reactions to the episodes and ever since they started recording the commentaries prior to the episodes airing, that element has been gone.

I'd love to hear them do a commentary on "Yo Leela Leela" for instance, now that everyone hates it. The one they did for "A Leela of Her Own" was quite interesting.

I'm in the US, but I'd be willing to pay the shipping needed to get it from there to here. Yes, I know I'd be unable to play them, But I'd  just display them in my Futurama Collection, as I already have the USA seasons one and two DVDs.

I'd like to see what they think about the fan responses to episodes like Holiday Spectacular and Saturday Morning Fun Pit. It'd be interesting to see if they agree with our opinions, or full-out disregard them.

I don't see what the point of releasing the series on Blu Ray would be.

We already have them in great quality on DVD. And if you put the DVD in a Blu Ray player, they still look really great.

So I highly doubt that they'd do something like that. It would almost be kind of pointless.

It'll be less compressed on Blu-ray and the DTS audio would rock.

I like the cover for Volume 8, but I do feel that Hypnotoad may have overused his cult status to overpower more suitable candidates...

As for a complete collection, interesting. They need to put the whole lot on Blu-Ray. I don't want one of these miss-matched sets where some is Blu-ray and some is DVD...

Others have already pointed out the benefits of having the old material on Blu-Ray, not to mention that less disks means less packaging and less wasted shelf space both for retailers and consumers...

If it's not all on Blu-Ray then it's no deal for me, unless it gets severely reduced...

I don't think that there's any doubt that they'll release it on blu-ray, but what we don't know is if that blu-ray set will be made up of seasons 1-4 and the first two movies on DVD, followed by Bender's Game up until "Meanwhile" on blu-ray, or the entire back-catalogue up until "Meanwhile" on blu-ray.
