Come on guys...let's not clutter up other threads with our crazy MST talk.

Here's a whole thread to talk about it. I'll get the ball rolling with some standard fan questions:

What's your favorite episode? Mine is definitely "Santa Claus". I have it on tape and watch it every christmas...I seriously cry with laughter every time I watch it. Runner up is probably Jack Frost...it's along the same lines(goofy foreign kids movie, with scenes that make you go "what the fuck?"), but I think the riffing in Santa Claus is slightly better.

Joel or Mike? That's a tough one...Joel rocked a lot, but so does Mike. Plus he gets extra points for being the head writer. It's hard to pick one over the other...I wish they would have both made fun of "Soultaker".

Favorite season? I'm going with 8. First season on Scifi, it was full of energy and the host segments were creative, Bill Corbett rocked as Crow, and I most of the movies were great riffing material(I think She-Creature was the only one I didn't like).

Haha, that was a great episode, I even have "Merry Christmas...if that's OK" on .mp3.  Classic.  My top most favorite episode has to be This Island Earth (MST3K the Movie) even though this bombed at the box office, I found it really hilarious.

Both Mike and Joel did the part excellent, Joel had a better relationship with Tom and Crow but in general Mike can make jokes 'work' better.  I don't have a favorite season, I loved them all, but sadly I have never got my hands on any KTMA episodes (88-89), I really want to see at least one though.

It would be awesome to see one last Turkey Day Marathon this year as a send off to the reruns, but sadly Sci-Fi is one big bitch so we probably won't see that  :(.

MST3K - one of the largest cult-famous shows to date.

You're referring to "Santa Claus Conquers the Martians", right? I love that one! And "Jack Frost"... that was the one with Gramdpa Mushroom, wasn't it? Man, I think there were some mushrooms in the writer's room, if you get what I mean...

My favorite short would have to be "Mr. B. Natural". Worth it for the debate alone...

Nah, though that was a great episode, Fishy was talking about episode 521 - Santa Claus

Santa Claus Defeats the Martians was in season three I think.

Kryten: Actually no, there's a Mike-era Christmas episode just called "Santa Claus". It's a weird-as-hell mexican kids movie, about the devil trying to stop Santa Claus. But Santa Claus Conquers The Martions was awesome too. Does anyone remember news that Ben Edlund(I think that's his name...creator of The Tick) was going to direct a remake of it? I haven't heard anything about that in years...I wanna see it.

Mr. B Natural is sexy as hell. Seriously...I don't care how old she is now, I'd do her.

I don't wanna brag, but I have a few KTMA episodes. They aren't too bad considering it was all improv, but the cable shows are way better.

Yes but just the vintageossity makes those episodes great.  Suppose I could buy some from on-line traders/sellers but I'm a little weary of it.

In the MST 3K Amazing Colassal Episode Guide, it says one of the writers admitted he found Mr. B Natural strangely attractive.  That really scares me, even if "he" was a woman.
Um, did anyone see "Final Sacrifice"?  I laugh till I cried in that one.  Foreign movies are the best for MSTing.

Uh, kinda off-topic, but who's your favorite 'bot?  This may sound weird, but I like Gypsy.  I read somewhere that she was named after a turtle Joel had as a kid because they were both dumb and slow.  Next to Gypsy, I like Servo.  He never fails to make me crack up with his singing.

I like all the bots, including cambot, but my favorite hasta be Tom.

Foreign movies are too easy to MSTify but guaranteed laughs, especially Canadian ones like Final Sacrifice, and movies that pretend they're in the US, it's just sad, like Devil Fish.

I just got a three-pack with "The Catalina Caper", "Skydivers", and "Shorts 2". As soon as I have a spare chance, I'm gonna sit me down to watch it.

Oh, and my favorite 'bot is Crow.

Haha, Rowsdauer(sp?) rocked! And the whole spiel at the end, with Crow pitching Final Sacrifice: The Series...oh man. Hilarious.

My favorite bot is probably Servo, but Crow is a sexy bitch as well. I've always wanted my own Servo puppet...of course I'm too lazy/stupid to build one, but I might buy the gumball machine and just carry around my own Tom Servo head. The ladies would love that.

Catalina Caper...I like that one. Lots of sad attempts at comedy(by the movie of course, not the bots). Lots of goofiness. Skydivers is hell though...Coleman Francis--ugh. Worst director ever.

Trace or Bill?

Bill definately for me.  I dunno why.  He just sounds...more devious or something than Trace.

I actually like Bill's voice a lot better, but his puppeteering sucked. Trace-Crow was full of energy and moved all over the place. Bill-Crow just sat there.

Also, Dr. F rocked soooo much.

Yeah Trace did Dr. F great, and Bill did Brain Guy pretty good too, he's my second favorite non-bot actor on the show, all in all Bills' voice with crow was easier to listen to and laugh at.

Oh and I looked at all the things I would need to build Tom Servo and some of the stuff looks hard to find, especially if you're going for a very authentic look.  Maybe when I get some more money and time I'll build him, and maybe take him to the movies with me, haha, that'd be rich.

I've got Mike Nelsons' Movie Megacheese, it's hilarious!  A must buy for all MSTies.  He also has another collection of essays coming out next year and he also has his OWN NOVEL coming out, you know I'm getting that.

Mike's book was funny, but where was the new stuff? I read that it was supposed to be 50% Home Theater columns and 50% new essays. I don't think there was a single new column in there...what's up with that? But I'm hyped up like hell for his novel...that's gonna be fucking great.

I'll be getting Kevin Murphy's book too. His essay type stuff doesn't always work, but when it does it's absolutely hysterical.

/me bitchslaps Marc for not knowing what MST3K is

Mystery Science Theater 3000 was a humble show that first aired on Minneapolis's Channel 23 KTMA in 1988.  It was about a guy that was shot up in space to live with two robots and watch horribly awful, stinky, mind-numbing B movies and riff them, which then went on to be called "mstify" - the art of making fun of something.  Some crazy msties actually tried to get the word in Websters Dictionary.  (An MSTie is a loyal MST3K fan).

Since one man cannot explain MST3K in under 30 minutes, I ask that you go here.  Or here.

Well little Marc, when a man really loves a woman,

*thrusts crotch into the air several times*

and that's how babies are made.

As for MST3K(Mystery Science Theater 3000), I don't feel like going into details, but it's a funny low-budget, non-Hollywood show about a guy who gets shot into space by mad scientists and is forced to watch horrible movies(along with his two loveable robot pals, Tom Servo and Crow). Sillhouetted at the bottom of the TV screen, they make fun of the movie and come out every half hour for a song or comedy sketch. It lasted 10 seasons, which is pretty amazing, but it got cancelled a couple years ago and now they just show selected reruns.

I think the theme song explains it best.

In the not-to-distant future
Next Sunday, AD,
There was a guy named Joel
Not too different from you and me.
He worked at Gizmonic Institute,
Just another face in a red jumpsuit.
He did a good job cleaning up the place,
But his bosses didn't like him so they shot him into spa-ace.
"We'll send him cheesy movies,
The worst we can find (la la la)
He'll have to sit and watch them all,
and we'll monitor his mind."
Now keep in mind Joel can't control
where the movie begins or ends.
Because he used those special parts
To make his robot friends.
ROBOT ROLL CALL:
Cambot!
Gypsy!
Tom Servo!
Croooooooooooooow!
If you're wondering how he eats and breathes,
And other science facts (la la la)

I should really just relax."

I'm so jealous of anyone who receives MST3K episodes on tv! I first got into it when I saw the movie (normal view, normal View, NORMAL VIEW!), and the video rental also had three episodes on tape (Manos: the Hands of Fate; Mitchell; and the Amazing Colossal Man), so I watched those, but that's all! Oh well. (sorry for sounding like a brat, just had to vent my nerdish woes.)

And in case you didn't notice, Crow and Tom Servo made their big Futurama appearance in "Raging Bender".

"Don't talk during the movie!"

There have been a few other references on The Simpsons and Futurama, but that's the best and most noticable.

Things I noticed about the relationship between MST3K and Futurama:

1.  They're both shown in the future.
2.  They both make fun of the genre they are said to be.
3.  They both have robots.
4.  They are both sprinkled with computer jokes.
5.  They don't/didn't get the just amount of critic-respect they deserve(d).

Feel free to add....

A screwed up quote from my favorite show of all time?  [Professor]"This will not stand!"[/Professor]

Quote
[SOL]
Crow*sigh*  "Now there!"  "There!"  "You did so mean to turn me on that time!"
Tom:  "Okay I admit it, I turned you on on purpose okay, because I was upset so I turned you on, so biiiig deal."
Mike:  "Well now you just turned me on!  Can't you do anything without turning people on!?"
Tom:  "Oh that's nice-"
[Mike, Tom and Servo continue to bicker about accidental turning-onings]

[Cuts to Castle Forester]

Pearl:  "You couldn't turn me on if you had a dozen naked Gerardos and Fabio in tight leather pants. (Pauses, gets a dreamy look as she imagines what she has just described - almost faints.)  Uh - Where, where was I? Oh right. I'm remodeling the great hall. I'm putting in a conversation and the couch I picked out for it came in early so I need you guys (Observer and Bobo bring in the couch and set it down) to store it for me. Brain Guy?"
Brain Guy: "Yes Madam!"... (Sends the couch to the SOL)
Pearl:  "And nooo jumping on the couch!-"

[Cuts to the SOL with Mike and the Bots
jumping on the couch in pajamas and shouting "whee!"
]

Crow:  "Jumping!"
Tom:  "Thanks, Grandma Pearl!"
Crow:  "Watch, you guys, I'm gonna do something cool. (Ducks down and sticks his legs up) You can see my legs!"

[Cuts to Castle Forester]

Pearl:  "Grandma Pearl does not want you jumping on that couch! Get off right now! Don't! Don't squeeze those juice boxes on that couch!"

[Cuts to SOL, where Mike is squeezing a juice box, squirting its contents on the bots and the couch.]

Tom:  "Juice!"
Crow: "Whee!"
Tom:  "Thank you"!
Crow:  "He's squirting it everywhere!  It's funny!"  [Mike squeezes juice at Cambot. Everybody continues laughing. Tom falls off the couch.]

[Castle Forester]

Pearl:  "Oh, we can't have nice things! That's it, that is it! I am going to give you such a movie!"

[SOL]

Mike & the Bots:  "We don't care!"

[Castle Forester]

Pearl:  "Bobo. Brain Guy. Get...the movie!"
Brain-Guy*gasps*  "No!"
Bobo:  "Ahhhhhhh!!!!!"

[SOL]

[M&TB continue laughing and jumping. They slowly stop, realizing they're in trouble.]
Crow:  "Huh?"
Tom:  "Hoh."

[Castle Forester]

*Observer and Bobo bring in a chest*
Pearl:  "Weeee have ways of dealing with n'er-do-wells who insist on jumping on our rent-to-own couches."  (Diabolically)  "Your...movie...[Bobo runs up and screams into the camera]...is called..."[Observer opens the chest. It glows green inside, and smoke drifts out of it. Pearl reaches in and pulls out a movie with biohazard labels, hand of death labels, and a warning that says "May cause blindness and death"]  "Hobgoblins!" [Bobo screams into the camera again]

[SOL]

[*M&TB are becoming increasingly worried*]
Mike:  "Pearl...whatever you're thinking...please don't. [*The bots begin to cry*]
Tom:  "Please don't [*Everyone begins talking all at once*] "It was Mike's fault!"  "I'm sorry!"  "We're Sorry!"  "We didn't mean it!"

(Movie sign)

Thaaaat's better...
