In behind the laughter they animated 2 answers to the question, in the one they played in the US it was North Kentucky, but it was somewhere else in the rest of the world

There are many town's called Springfield, so it should be pretty fun/hard to figuire out. It's a Northen State they're in, that's for sure.

I don't necessarily think it needs to be in a state that has a place called Springfield. After all, South Park is located in Collarado and doesn't really exist (although it is based on a real small town there called Fairplay). Also, Quahog is in Rhode Island - but I'm not sure if that's a real place or not. My point is that although it's set in a fictional city, it can still be located in a real state.
Also, it can't be set in California, since the family visited there once. They also mentioned a few other states in that same episode (I forget it's name, but it's the one where they accidentally "kill" an alligator during spring break) that can also be elimiated, but I can't remember them either.

I remember Marge saying "Springfield, Illinois".
I have another question: Does Capitol City really exist or is it just a Simpsons spoof of Las Vegas?
*sorry if this a double post. My connection is acting up*

Just think: They're a northern state BUT they also have a confederate flag. Therefore: MYSTERY SOLVED (hooray! I solved TWO Simpsons mysteries today!!)

Originally posted by mikey: Well it has to be on the west coast because we have seen numerous beachside sunsets.. Offically, Springfield is in the state of "North Tacoma." (see the license plates in earlier seasons). Unoffically, we're all pretty sure it's in Oregon. Reason 1, that's where Matt Greoning's from. Reason 2, it must have access to the sea (numerous episodes). Reason 3, it has a very diverse climate (mountains, beaches, deep forests, deserts). Most, if not all of these, can be found in the Northwest. Reason 4, its west of the Mississippi (KBBL, etc.) Reason 5, a wizard did it.
