No, it isn't some lame direct-to-video BeastWars affair, but a genuine effort by Hasbro to resurrect the original transformer models in an all new, live-action form! Here's the link:

http://www.comingsoon.net/news.php?id=283

This news makes the kid inside me *really* happy. Especially since they're planning on keeping the  transformers looking like they used to. Awesome! that is, if they kind find the right mix of cast, story, and special effects.

So: do you welcome this effort with open (but cautious) arms, or should the powers-that-be leave well-enough alone?

Will it be aimed at kids or adults? It certainly sounds childish. As long as its not REally bodgy like Powerrangers i suppose i dont mind. I was always more of a fan of Ninjaturtles anyway, Which is also being remade by John woo.

This is disturbing if true as it means Hollywood has sunk so low that they might(will) never recover. I mean what next a TellaTubbys movie?

Preschoolers arent that profitable. When i get a Space armamda, first place im bombarding is LA. I'll destroy hollywood once and for all.
OH WAIT, I know ill blast the fautline thus cutting it off from the mainland and creating a highly amusing Escape from LA like situation.

New stuff sucks. And old stuff is boring! Good entertainment is a difficult balance, that so far only the 80's have pulled off.

It would be great if they did it well. It could just end up like Final Fantasy or even Pokemon (*shudders*). Even if they say they'll keep to the original designs they'll still 'modern' it up just to get the kids in the cinema.

If your outrage is aimed at the idea of a Transformers movie in principle, there already was a movie made based on the series. More than one, in fact. It was pretty good -- any movie with Leonard Nimoy, Orson Welles, James Garner, Robert Stack and Eric Idle as voice talent is golden. And the soundtrack!

The main difference between that movie and this one will be that the first was animated, and this will be live-action.

You scoundrel! I have it on DVD.  :D

And the two Stan Bush tracks ("Dare" and "The Touch" ) rank among favourite songs of all time (alright, laugh at me  ;)).

Anyway, the main problem with the movie was the fact that all the decent Transformers got replaced by the new generation ones. Optimus was easily better than Rodimus.

Yeah, that soundtrack rocked. They'll probably replace it with hip-hop or Blink 182 crap in the remake.

EDIT- I dunno about that Cyberknight, I always liked the new generation transformers. I love the transformations in the movie though, much better animated than the series.

By the way, did anyone else notice the nurse in "Insane in the Mainframe" was called Nurse Ratchet?  ;)

I still preferred the originals, especially the leads. Megatron was so much better than Galvatron (yes, I know they're the same person but he just wasn't the same), Optimus was a much more noble leader than Rodimus, and I missed Starscream.  ;)

actually, Kids these days carry alot of money, so after you`re done entertaining them you may consider robbin um

as for a transformers movie, not worth my eyesight, on the other hand, if they were making a Beast Wars Movie, that could be kool, it was the 1st series to really use computer Graphics wisely, it made alot more sense too, that is, if you could understand it

What about the original Reboot, it was hardly breathtaking but at the time it came out it was pretty special.

Quote from somewhere on the internet about Boogie Nights:

"It's said the date is March 1983 when Dirk sings "The Touch". But the song wasn't created until 1985 for the 1986 movie "The Transformers:The Movie" by Stan Bush."

The thing that makes Armada suck is that it "Pokemon-izes" the Transformers series. Suddenly the most imperative subject on the Autobots' agenda is collecting tiny robots. What a stupid concept.

Transformers: Gotta catch 'em all!

I got one of the comics of Transformers: Armada and I was impressed by the artwork but the story sucked. The original movie was dark and mature (ie. lots of swearing and violence) whereas this, as LAN said, just seems like pokemon. anything which has 12 year old kids as the main characters has to suck.

Back onto the movie, the best thing about that music has to be the main theme tune! Cheese taken to the extreme!

I'm glad the movie's based on the original Transformers with the cars and the kick-ass planes that the robots transform into. I wouldn't be interested if's based on the gay Beast Wars or Armada series. Old school rules!

Thankfully, my childhood gracefully straddled both shows, so I experienced both! I never watched Thundercats, but I did watch He-Man. Only sometimes, though.

Bumped because of the ill-fated other thread.

It's pretty much sacrelige that anyone's letting Michael Bay touch anything that has both White Lion and Orson Welles associated with it.  Michael Bay seriously needs to die.  In such a way that he represents an object lesson to other directors.  I need his death to make everyone in Hollywood take a long look in the mirror and tighten their belts.

I was born 1984, so I don't remember the original Transformers series. I do remember the others though; Thunder Cats, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, He-Man, Go Bots. God, those were the days. Beast Wars was my favourite Transformers reincarnations.

The idea of a LIVE action movie dose not get my interest, the cartoon movie does (I have never seen the original Transformers: The Movie... no not the friut  ), but not a live one, it just dosen't feel right, it was like the Garfield movie or the idea of an Alvin and the Chipmunks movie... I have heard rumours

I was born in 1984 as well and I remeber the Transformers. I had a Optomes Prime figurine, he was mint as man.

Funny story,
when I used to watch Beast Wars, I went to check out the web site online, typed in www.beastwars.com  and got directed to an beastiality site. I was a bit perplexed why women were haveing sex with animals, might of typed "beastwhores" by mistake, but I doubt it.

Also, this was on the school computers. lol. Ah memories.

I'll have to see a preview or some story line/character sketches before I pass judgement.
