I was watching a show called River Monsters tonight.  This particular episode was about the Red-Bellied Pirahna Pirhana Pirana Chompyfish, and the host retold a story from a beach where eight people got nipped pretty severely by the afore-misspelled fish.  It was a pretty boring show, but the reenactment sequence of the beach attack was duplicated almost shot-for-shot from the Alex Kitner attack in Jaws.  That was pretty badass.

This isn't the first time I've pledged to actively avoid a show based entirely on the Wikipedia article, and I'm pretty sure it won't be the last. :)

Biggest surprises:

Oh, I'm still retroactively pissed that The Simpsons--you know, the show that made stuff like Family Guy even possible--was never judged as a comedy series, as opposed to an animated one (back in, like, seasons three and four). I think the producers used to try submitting it as the former, but they were largely ignored and ridiculed and whatnot (I seem to recall Al Jean mentioning it in some of the commentaries).

What the crap? America's now making a remake of Packed to the Rafters!
http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/entertainment/rafters-packing-for-the-states/story-e6frexlr-1225751721331
First you wrecked Kath and Kim, and now THIS?

Also, All Saints has been axed. http://www.smh.com.au/national/tv-casualty-all-saints-axed-after-11-years-20090709-def7.html

I never got into packed to the rafters anyway, the whole chaging-Australian-tv-shows-into-an-american-version is pretty screwed up in itself though.

Once again we will witness how Australian TV and humour does not translate into American viewing.... it will turn out to be cheesy and cliche.

I was watching episodes of Freaks and Geeks on YouTube today. I remember seeing repeats on, like, FOX Family when I was about 10 years old, and my older brother (who, age-wise, was closer to the demographic at the time than I was) liked it a lot. I must admit, it's a pretty great show (though nowhere near as brilliant as people like to make it out to be). Still, I'd consider buying the boxset, if Amazon chose to sell it for a slightly more reasonable price.

WTF is so great about that rafters crap? I'm sick of hearing about that sorta crap all the time. And I'm saying this as someone that doesn't watch TV anymore.

I'm glad the yanks got kath and kim, they are the only people that could've made it even worse, is there something about Aussies that make us like crap shows? Seriously everything that seems describe what an Aussie should be like seems not to apply to me.

Okay, okay--I'll grant you the hilarity, and the realism, and the awesome writing, and the complex characters, and the great acting. But, uh, I'm simply following the example set forth by the characters, by choosing not to conform.

I mean conform to the belief that it is the most brilliant TV show everzzz. I generally find universal praise for cult classics (*prepares to be flamed* Arrested Development comes to mind) obnoxious and ultimately a set-up for a big letdown. Take it as a compliment that the letdown for Freaks and Geeks was pretty minute.

Just finished season 4 of The Wire.

Good season, but a little odd, didn't really seem to build to a major climax, seemed more to be setting up season 5, what with McNulty finally returning to Major Crimes, he better be in season 5 more than he was season 4! That was bullshit!

This season was good for all the links between characters, really cool to see certain people in the same scenes and realised that it's the first time they've met, or when Prez runs into carver at the end. :)

But again:

Omar was pretty cool this season too. :)

ALSO, great to see the Russian again, albeit briefly.

Michael has a good story arc chay, don't worry!
Carcetti is played by an oirish guy! He also played a gay dude though on the british gay show 'Queer As Folk' though, ha. Also he's in some upcoming movie called "Spunkbubble" (lawl)
Such a great show, I miss Bunk. I saw on imdb Omar was in Alias, which I don't remember at all.

iPlayer doesn't work outside he UK: laaame! I get BBC on TV I should get iPlayer!

Carcetti was also the bad guy in some shitty movie called 12 rounds

Also, shuddup, don't say stuff like "I miss Bunk"! Ruiner!

Omar was also in a movie called "Gone Baby, Gone" Which he was quite good in.

Oh god, I was so deprived of entertainment at one in the morning that I actually watched part of a Bob Saget comedy special. He likes to swear and sing songs about dogs licking his balls. And it might have been funny, if he was actually, y'know, funny. But no such luck.

@Faze: BoT is friggen awesome. The eps get better as the series goes on. Jaberwocky is GREAT. So glad it got picked up for a second season! :)

@BdC: Don't they cheat by covering their dog in stuff that either makes it hard for the other dog to latch on, or it's stuff that makes the other dog sick/drugged and can't fight properly?

True Blood! Not sure if we have a thread for this, but this show is friggen awesome. Lots of sex and boobies and lots of sassy black people *snaps fingers*
