I'm surprised how many people didn't get it. Some even sounded like they were ready to give up on the show. By the end of the episode all questions were answered. And any that I had after that were definitely answered after the second viewing. Or perhaps I didn't have trouble because my brain is wired like 'Blood of the Father, Heart of Steel'.
Heh, where I've been looking, a lot of people seem to get it. They're all like hey! SPHINX is back! And then I think oh, right, that was the old enemy of the OSI in the GI Joe song from the Invisible Hand of Fate episode. I guess my brain got too distracted trying to understand the chronology to realize these things.
I sort of felt like, as I was watching the episode or the season 4 preview for that matter, that the events that were occurring didn't really make sense in the context of the Venture universe... or something... But after a couple of viewings, it does make sense, and I'm really starting to appreciate where this season is taking us.
Although I wouldn't say I'm question free, I'm still a little bit confused about some things... like 21 with the X1 and Role-Playing crew.

Well, this is all speculation on my part, but The Monarch did find the X-1 abandoned with H.e.l.p.e.r. (still f***ed up from the crash). Maybe when he kidnapped H.e.l.p.e.r. he , or some of his men, took the X-1. And then after the incident with O.S.I. and the naked boy army, 21 took it and went joyriding with his LARP Crew. As for the LARP Crew themselves. There could be an episode down the line that shows what 21 was up to. I'm hoping at least.

So, will all episodes of the new season will be all out of sync or will we go back to the linear nature of the show next episode?

Hey, yeah, I didn't think of that! So, will all episodes of the new season will be all out of sync or will we go back to the linear nature of the show next episode? Yeah, I'd have to imagine this is a one-time thing. Well. I keep watching this episode. And, like every Venture Bros. episode I'm not sure about at first, it's grown on me more each time. I wrote this on the Mantis-Eye Discussion as my final thoughts on the episode for now: Okay. I love this episode. It took me a few views, but finally, I love it. First of all, the music is excellent and stands out from previous seasons for me. The scene where Sgt. Hatred makes Hank shoot him is fantastic, and in large part due to the music. And the ending when Hank meets Brock is beautiful.
I wasn't sure at first about the direction this season was going in. From some of the scenes in the Season 4 preview, out of context, to me it seemed like they were just going completely crazy with the plot, and watching this episode for the first time backed that up, because, the way it's set up, the whole episode is still out of context until the end.
But after a second viewing, the plot makes sense to me, and I really really like where they're going with it.
Also, for, I think, the first time ever, I actually connected emotionally with Hank. Crazy! Now that they don't have the clones safety net, and they're actually growing up and maturing a bit, the Venture brothers are actually starting to become an interesting part of the Venture Bros. again.
Anyway. Beautiful episode. It's easily the craziest, most convoluted episode ever I'd say, and it took a couple views for me to really get it, but still, great episode. Can not wait for next week. Also, I haven't actually talked about the jokes... "I totally killed Hitler." - Best last line ever. Also when they're all in the washroom... "Good lord, have you been using the toilet under there this whole time?" "WE ARE AT WAR WITH HITLER AGAIN! THIS IS HOW IT'S DONE ON THE FRONT LINES" And yes, that was an epic crotch grab with Hunter.

The only part of that I disagree with is the part about the actual Venture Brothers. Lately, Dean has really started to annoy me. Not once, but twice he runs out of the room crying. Last year during the finale it seems like the battle was going to make his heart explode. I miss the good old days when Hank and Dean wanted to go out on adventures.
Everything else about the show is great. I love the direction it's taken. I hope they do something about the boys though. Mostly Dean. Also, I haven't actually talked about the jokes...

Especially Hank's lines right after Hatred says he was going to get him ice cream.

Fat Brock = Awesome. I want a Fat Brock action figure now. For Christmas perhaps. Preferably naked. *Uhoh* Hunter's still a man? (That's supposed to be shock.) That was one of the best crotch grabs I've ever seen. No, screw that. It was THE best.
Yeah I was thinking to myself Brock gone fat. I like his old hot body and I want that back.
I was so disappointed that Hunter is not a tranny anymore and that what makes it really funny. I think Hunter the funniest character ever. The cock grabbing had me in stitches.

Aaaaah, back to normal. God I missed Monarchs cynical nasal voice. I love how it never explains how 21 got so damn buff.
I love the call backs to not only Rusty and his craptaculur post Atomic age inventions but the whole 'Monarch doesn't pay for the Taxi' jokes. WONDERBOY!

I thought this episode was pretty good. The opening where the Monarch has the boys captured and is yelling at Dr. Venture while Dr. Venture sips his coffee is classic Venture Bros, and all that kind of stuff throughout the episode was hilarious. Captain Sunshine (Kevin Conroy) was alright, but I'm not sure about the whole pedophile thing.
The episode also didn't advance the plot at all, but it was an amusing little stand-alone comedy episode, even if I might much prefer last season's equivalent, The Doctor is Sin.

I agree 100%. The whole Captain Sunshine bit wasn't what I thought it would be. I was, however, reminded of a line from season 1 that I thought was very interesting. And most of all very cool. The Monarch: "Have you sent the charred remains of Wonderboy to his beloved Captain Sunshine?" P.S. I liked 21 in this episode. He's been lifting weights and he isn't as whiny as he was in the last episode.

That bit where he paid off the actual cab driver was pretty damn in character, and it seems he is moving on from his loss. Good for him. I wonder if we'll see the rumoured female Henchmen(woman?) of the Monarchs this season. It'd be a treat for putting up with the Moppets from the last one. Speaking of which, they were on the screen briefly in the latest episode during the mansion invasion. Also, TNUK you better be damn well going to a Halloween Party dressed as Sneaky Commando Samson.

Aaaah my tits are back! Damn you Colonel Gentleman. EDIT: If we ever get female Henchmen, we might just get normal and dumpy female versions of the 21 24 stereotype. Monarch seems kinda like the guy with a whole 'No girl hotter than mine is allowed in my treehouse giant flying coccoon' vibe. Anyone else wished Kevin Convoy was going to scream I AM THE GODDAMN SUNSHINE in this one?

I think the fake Dr. Venture was all in Mutant Dean's mind. Case in point when he was telling him to kill the real Dean. My guess is that Mutant Dean saw one of the dummys his mind convinced him it was real.

I thought about the Dr. Venture being in Mutant Dean's mind. But what about the explosion?
His mind tricked him into thinking the dummy was the real Dr. Venture and when he hugged it, it blew up.

Ah, so the dummies that Hatred built were capable of exploding? Well, that makes a lot more sense. I'll have to watch this episode several more times. Anyone see the previews for next weeks? I heard.... Henchman 21 kidnaps Hank and/or Dean. Without Monarch's permission. Sounds very interesting. I'm liking the evolution of 21 so far this season.
I can't believe we're almost halfway through our half season. This break between both halves of season 4 are going to be a bitch.

Yea, I think I missed why they were making exploding Doc dummies, but I immediately concluded when it happened that mutant Dean was imagining the Dummy talking, and the dummy exploded because that was the purpose of it.
It was like, their new security system or something? I'll have to watch it again.
It was a very good episode, I don't have any complaints or concerns. It was kind of darker like last season's what goes down, must come up. But like that episode, and like last episode, it wasn't particularly outstanding. I think the first episode is still my favourite this season, and I can't wait for them to carry on the plot of that one.
