I´m going to look like heretic in eyes of many fans here but I really want to see what are you truly think about this thing - yes I know that it is maybe stupid question since it´s one of most impostent aspect of the whole series but on many threads I read different opinions.
As for myself I can´t say yes or no, it is premise of some really great episodes but on the other hand it also caused some forced changes in their characters and pulled the series very near to soap opera. Don´ t get me wrong! I´am not one of them who said "Futurama is just comedy" , I just like more individual emotion stories ("Luck of the fryish" for example)than the romantic ones.

i love the romantic aspect of the show. It is the #1 reason that i loved the show so much. I wanted those 2 to get together so bad.

Yeah, I watch Futurama because of the love aspect and comedy.  Before I saw my first shippy, episode, AFTR, I liked Futurama. After I saw it, loved Futurama. And from then on I knew I was a shipper.   smile

Nah, the show is better with them flailing at it. I'm not a shipper at all, I like Futurama for the laughs and the plot.

Up until "Parasites Lost" Futurama was a good show.  Afterwards it became a great show.

I voted no--I think romance ruins shows. And I don't think Fry and Leela are compatible. I like Fry/Bender better   flirt

I voted yes, I think that was one of the reasons that Futurama stood above so many other shows, live-actiona and animated.

I'm not a fan of the serious romantic aspect of the show. It's ok when it's silly and lighthearted, but episodes like The Why of Fry, Devil's Hands, and even the ending of Time Keeps Slipping really went overboard with the melodrama. "I have to make her love me, no matter what!" can make for some hilarious comedy hijinks, but when taken seriously it isn't romantic at all, but creepy and obsessive instead.

I'm happy the ending of Devil's Hands was left ambiguous. That way, in my mind the show didn't end with the cliched "guy gets the girl in the end", and instead Fry and Leela just remained good friends.

I'm a supporter, but not a die-hard shipper *coughHILcough*!  The ongoing Fry/Leela stuff adds a whole 'nother aspect to the show. For the most part I think it works out pretty well, and it kept people watching and whatnot.  Personally, I like the subtle stuff better than entire episodes focused around Fry/Leela.

The shippiness is an integral part of the show.  The fact that it was never realized makes it all the more sublime.

Yeah, as a whole I like it. Not to the level of being a shipper, but it's a good aspect of the show. Episodes such as "Xmas Story", "Parasites Lost" and AFTR had great moments. It's when the relationship become the sole focus of an episode, it suffers. I really liked the ending of TDHAIP, ambigious and cute. In my mind, they didn't get together after that episode, they just remained very good friends.

I agree with Teral and edel. It's one of the ways of having your cake and eating it too.

I can't think of one show which fully realised a relationship and didn't suffer afterwards. (Teral, quiet.  tongue   wink).

I like it, but only as one aspect of the show.  Much like the other characters and plot concepts surrounding them, it needs to be balanced with other aspects.  There were some episodes like "The Farnsworth Parabox" where I felt they kind of "forced in" the Fry/Leela thing and thus the episodes suffered a little, but when its done well (such as "Parasites Lost" ) its a very good aspect of the show.

I used to be a die hard shipper. After learning of the show's inevitable cancellation, I eased off. I didn't want to be some sort of loser who cries because they didn't get together. That said, this show would not have been the same without the romantic aspect. It's one of the things that kept it from being a Simpsons in Space deal.

There are some people who don't like the relationship because they want Fry or Leela for themselves. That's just sad. It's alright to fantasize, but to actually be jealous of a person that doesn't exist. That's sort of crossing the line.

Oh, and the Fry and Bender suggestion disturbs me to the core. There's no way that would ever happen. They address that right out of the gate. I don't much care for unbelieveable matchups. Fry and Amy I can see. I'll even buy Leela and Amy. But Bender and Fry (in fact Bender and anything nonrobotic) raise the question of how?

Is that supposed to be "failing", or did you really mean "flailing"?  I'm only asking because the meaning is somewhat different, depending on which word you meant to use.   laff

But yes, in answer to the original question, I do like the relationship between Fry and Leela; if by relationship you mean that the two of them are best friends, with a lot of romantic tension between them, but they never actually become a couple, until the final episode, when they do, or else they don't, depending on your point of view.

i like their relationship. Even if they did get together after the devils hands (i like to think of it that way) i don't think their relationship would change that much. e.g. i dont ever want to think that leela would stop hitting/slapping fry. lol.

As I allready said I like some of their stories too (especially "Parasites lost" and "The Sting" ). In  it´s results just irrited me that it unpleasently changed Leela´s position in the show.
Shiippiness itself doesn´t annoy me but it should´nt be so pointless (Amy/Kif relationship is terrible thing but at least they are secondary characters so for example wedding for them wouldn´t be bad).
I love ending of TDHAIP but despite of it I´am not so glad that  the series finale was romantic based episode (of course I´m praying for the continuing).

Of course I do, I'm a diehard shipper! The main reason Devil's Hands is my favorite episode (like I haven't told you all enough already) is because I imagine them getting together at the end. *gets slapped by Asylum-Fry*

It was really well shown especially in The Sting.
It just makes u go AAAwwww...  smile

But if they do actually make more Futurama after TDHAIP (please please please!), I think that showing Fry/Leela together (really together like the Kif+Amy thing) might just kill of one of the more funnier aspects of the show, ya know wat i'm saying?

I don't think I even thought of them getitng together or not at the end of Devil's Hands. I got a fic to worry about.  wink

Yes, I am a hard core shipper, but not to the extent that I don't care about anything else in the show. Comedy is what brought me into it, it's also what keeps me. Although I love the shippy episodes more. Fry and Leela aren't the first couple in shows/ movie sI'vebeena  shipper for. It's just my personality.

That said, i didn't cry when theyd din't get together. In fact, i like it bette rthe way they did it. Maybe a little bit more on the getting-together side would've made me enjoy iy more, but it's fine this way.

I consider myself a shipper, but actually, I wouldn't want Fry and Leela to actually get together.  But I like the tension in the shippy episodes.  It makes Fry and Leela have more well-rounded personalities instead of being flat characters.  In other words, it allows the writers to further develop the characters.  That's the reason why I like the relationship.  But like I lot of people here, I also think that Fry and Leela didn't actually get together at the end of Devil's Hands.

Fry and Leela made a great double act, with them just being friends and there being some sexual/romantic tension in the air, did make the double act even better.  Some of the romantic stuff was really sweet too, although I think the show would have been dampened if not ruined had they actually got it together.

im for the romance, its good stuff, put a little tear in  the eye or an increase in the warm factor. its good that it is never realized however because the show would flip down and burn, its one of a few key aspects that holds the show together so well, its 1 reason that its superior to the simpsons in my opinion.

I actually have meet some people on the internet who are in love with cartoon characters.  It's really sad if you ask me.  However, I think Fry and Leela make a good couple.  They're not real, and I don't think about it a lot.  Oh, and what does 'shipper' mean?

no i hate it usually, we see relationships in every  fucking hollywood program and other t.v programs, its such an unoriginal idea because they cant think of anything better.
like the farnsworth parabox, you have a parralel universe to explore, but you concentrate on characters, in time keeps on slipping, you have a serious situation, why not have a more comedy based b story, but no you have a serious relationship thing, the bender c story almost made up for it.
so no i'd like to see a program that doesn't have male and female love intrest, it would just be the most original thing in the world

Comedy? Comedy!? 'Futurama' is not a comedy! It's a bittersweet romance!

I don't know why, but something about the Fry/Leela relationship hits me right here. (Points to heart) To tell you the truth, 'Parasites Lost' and 'Time Keeps on Slippin'' actually made me cry. So close Fry was, so close...
Plus, if Fry and Leela finally do get together, it doesn't have to be the focus of the show. I personally doubt that 'Futurama' will come back for as a series, but I am confident in the movies. And if Matt has to end the series, then at least give the fans (a. k. a., shippers) what they want. (If you think about it, he sort of did that in 'The Devils Hands Are Idol Playthings'. Any way you wanted it to turn out, it could've)

Plus, why was the final episode so shippy, if something wasn't going to happen?

P. S.
And don't forget what Nibbler said in 'The Why of Fry' about 'The Other'. Matt and DXC had Nibbler's role in this episode planned out from the beginning. And I'm pretty sure there's some things we about him that we still don't know that are going to be revealed at the end.

I like the Fry-Leela romance, and I hope it eventually (say, at the end of the promised four movies) becomes marriage.

That said, there's a heck of a lot of other parts of Futurama that I hope they expand on.  How will the Professor deal with Cubert?  How will Bender deal with non-Bender-related plots?  What's up with the Nibblonians?  And what about Wernstrom?  Wernstrom!

Futurama has so many storylines that it's hard to count.  And that's the way I like it.  I'm very fond of the Fry/Leela romance, as you may have guessed, but I love the side plots mucho.

But mostly I say, "Give us more Futurama, ye gods of animation!"

Wait a sec -- do robots say "ye"?

Well, I don't think it was becoming a soap opera, but it was getting kind of close with Leela rejecting Fry all the time. Say, what happened on that date they went on after 'The Farnsworth Parabox', anyway?
With the movies, they could wrap pretty much all the storylines up into a nice finale package. Please!

Apparently, not much since it was never mentioned in subsequent episodes.   smile

I think that's what's going to happen.  I expect Fry and Leela to end up together in some kind of story involving the Nibblonians.  Heck, Nibbler implied (TWOF) that their being together was some sort of prophecy.
