Any Cubert and Dwight shippers around?
I don't actually ship them, but I do think they're kinda cute together.

I definitely root for Fry and Leela as a viewer, but not to the point where I'd call myself a shipper.

I mean, it's possible, they haven't shown a sexual preference yet, then again they haven't aged a bit. But nobody likes Cubert and there isn't much love for Dwight, so there's probably not much slash fans.

There may be a whole underground subculture for all we know! Only, so far underground, they do not have internet access. On account of all the tunnels, C.H.U.D.s and what-not.

I'm sure the line was intended more as a throwaway joke than an actual examination of Fry's motivations (especially given that they had to make it rhyme), but yes, I agree that Fry's selfishness lessens as his character develops.

That's true, it really starts when he shows his love for Leela.

I agree. It was most likely a throwaway joke, but Fry does become more selfless in later seasons.

He was more concerned about being unable to date Leela than what might've happened to her if she had been taken to hell (torture, robo-rape and whatnot). I think as the show progresses, Fry becomes a bit more invested into the needs of others, but this is still an interesting observation.
Well...as Leela never really had to throw her life away for Fry (nor make a sacrifice for him equal to his), I think it's a bit unfair to blame a remark by Fry as "not selfless enough". ThB, I always considered it a bit disturbing: Fry's willingness to throw his life immediatelly away for Leela was treated as a good/romantic thing to do in the show. Even as one of his major qualities. It bears some strong undertones of "Needs to learn the lesson that his own life is worth less than another one".

^ Did you say certain lives have a lower value than others? I think everyone is equal...
Anyway, I think Fry didn't really love her until BBS, because that's when he realized that it didn't matter if they were dating or not, he wanted her happy. You can't blame her for not feeling the same way, because at least she wasn't mean about it, she was probably scared of him leaving her, and she just liked him as a friend. Fry has grown a lot as a character.

No, please read my text properly. I criticised the show for incorporating such a statement in certain plot/character constellations.

Sorry, but the way you wrote it looked like that. I don't think the writers did that purposely, I think they were just trying to show his commitment to her and keeping her safe.

Maybe we can get The Hippie Toad 4.0 to draw some pictures of them kissing.
Hey just out of curiousity, Beams, do you ship anyone besides Dwight/Cubert?

Oh, I'm pretty sure he was joking about shipping them. Just ask him, and he'll tell you he was. Also, Beamer and Hippie are the same person.
No shit. I was one of the first to know. I'm saying Beamer was joking about Hippie drawing them, but if you go back, you'll see that he was serious about shipping them.

I can't tell whether or not you're being sarcastic. As much as it pains me to say this, I agree with Stum. Beamer was obviously joking.

No he wasn't joking about shipping them, he was joking about Hippie drawing them. Jesus dude. You're not getting this.
(edit): Where are you when I need you, Beamer.
The whole thing was a joke. Who on earth would ship two twelve year old boys?! Gah. I don't wanna go back to prison... (And, since comedy is now apparently funniest when explained: Yes Stum, that too was a joke. ) Oh, I'm pretty sure he was joking about shipping them. Just ask him, and he'll tell you he was. Also, Beamer and Hippie are the same person.
There is no evidence of that, and I would The Hippie Toad would appreciate it if no more allusions to this absolutely truthful falsified accusation were made, thank you very much.
