Well, now. Difficult questions are coming up, but I assumed Fry might have been in love with Leela first, unless Leela's annoyance to Fry in SP300 was a hint to a crush of some sort. It's hard to say because one shows emotions all the time, and one tries to hide them.

I PMed the girl who drew that sexy sketch on the last page to ask her if she knew where the colored version was.

She couldn't find it either, and she thinks the artist may have removed it.

Anyway, there were a few frames in that comic where they were holding both hands in a very shippy manner.  And Leela was knowingly risking her life volunteering to be Fry's "lifeline".

The shower scene there is not so tawdry and shameful as some would think.  I'm sure 98% of men and 82% of women would agree that mutually enjoyed intimacy that is willingly entered into is the ultimate expression of the romantic relationship between adults.  Various forms of self sacrifice for one-another can make their claim but the bliss of that moment, un-tainted by guilt or anxiety is the very summit of existence.  It's right up there with the birth of your child, except that you want it again and again and again without limit.
