I'd rather go with the PEElie. I think others have already made the same point I would have... Guy, Dr.T, Teral, etc...

...I, too, make my POTM nominations based on posts that month. This diminishes the award(ha!) and trivializes his death. He deserves better.

Top of the page dance, but with feeling.

Im against it cos If DaviesRocks wins POTM its going to encourage others to commit suicide to win it, anyway im not convinced this isnt some elaborate hoax to win potm

I think we should keep the normal voting. If people want to award him POTM, they will.

I agree with everyone who said it was too soon to decide.  If anything, I like the idea Zed posted (in Davie's thread) from the X-Wing forum.

I'd either give Davie an honourary PEELie, or give him the April PotM without a vote.

Consider this: what would happen if we ran the April PotM as normal, and someone other than Davie won?

Davie passed away? Geez, didn't think I'd miss somehting like that.

I'd say Davie should should be an Honoraray PEELer and be added to the list of notable PEELers on whoever runs the PEEL people site (sorry, forgot who it was).

I've read this thread and have some ideas/opinions of my own. I've already said them in #fc so I'm basically pasting them and editing them so they make a bit more sense in a thread rather than a chatroom:

You know, I don't think davie should win his own special award for dying, but I do feel that he should win the "Most Missed PEELer" award. All of the PEELers usually nominated for that category are able to come back anytime they want. Some do. But davie can't, and I think it's because of that we should give him the award to show how we'll always miss him.

What pisses me off are the people who complain that the POTM is some prestigious award that should be given to those who earn it. It's a fucking message board award that practically nobody'll remember without a list in the next POTM thread. People need to stop being so damned selfish. Don't worry your little heads, you'll have a chance to win POTM next month if you stick around long enough. Then you can have your precious, imaginary award that nobody outside of this website will really even care about.

I have a feeling that davie automatically winning the award may not happen, but I feel he'll still win. I feel that everyone who voted for him winning in this thread will nominate him, and hell, sixteen nominations ain't a bad start.

Actually most of the people who are saying the award should be earned are the ones who've already won it.

Well, I think we should run the POTM as normal (as most people seem to agree with) and people can vote for him if they wish to. I certainly will. And yes, Guy, he did bloody well deserve it.

And these are the people who I feel are taking the award a bit too seriously. It's more understandable (though I still think it's selfish) if somebody's never won the award to think davie getting it is unfair than someone who's already won it and doesn't have a real good reason to complain.

Fuck "earning it". It's not like the Nobel Peace Prize, it's an internet award. I just feel that some people are taking it a bit too seriously and that it could be used as a nice way to remember davie.
But like I said, I feel he has a good chance of winning whether or not it's won automatically.

Speaking as someone who hasn't won it yet but has a reasonable chance of doing so in the near future, I say give the award to Davie.

But letting everyone vote for him will at least give people a chance, in a way (allbeit a superficial internet sorta way) how they feel. He posted well and he deserved this in life or in death.

What if Nix drinks acid?  What if VF gets run over by a tank in Tianimen Square?  What if M5 spontaneously combusts?  What if Fishy eats a cheeseburger and some Shambaki shaman drops 47 grand pianos on him?

What was my point again?  Oh yeah...let's just wait and see how many other PEELers kick before the end of the year.

Besides, you're not on the council...nyah nyah!

Since PoTM stands for Poster of The Month I don't know if I can agree with you. I can agree that he should get a memorial page or PEELie or something but I don't want him to win PoTM for slitting his wrists.

Then the winner will just feel like a tool.

I don't really care what happens. I already won my POTM award--back when it meant something. [/snob]

But seriously, OC is right. People shouldn't take the award so seriously. Give it to davierocks. Why the hell not.

Im sure he wouldnt have seen it as that, he was an intelligent guy and its not a pity award just a mark of respect of something he would have earned anyway. At the end of the day this is just a website and the award doesnt really mean anything. Just an idea really.

Why not have a regular POTM... and then have a special 2nd mentioning. "Memorial POTM" or something.

There, would that make everyone happy?

i think James idea was a happy compremise by when the voting begins having him already up there. I just thought it would be better and more special if he was auto-matically made POTM as it had never been done before therefore it is more special. If we do it the normal way it will either be pity votes from everyone or him not winning which i dont think is right.

Either way im pretty sure where ever Davie is he'll be impressed by the fact he's centre of attention  :)
