Title inspired by my top listened "track" of the last month or so.
Picking up from the last thread:
The new Sandrider album just dropped and it crushes hard. If you like riffs, beer, crash cymbals and more riffs, this is going to be your shit: http://sandrider.bandcamp.com/album/godhead Recommendations: Godhead, Gorgon. Pretty good.
What you think about these girls (this would be one of their heavier tracks)

Crustacean
I listen to all kinds of rolling music, but I always come back to this
It's my favorite note!

'Cause I didn't know that. You did the same thing.
Okay, what's my favorite musical then, if you know me so well, birch?

I've been listening to The Beatles all day. That's cool.

I love the Beatles, when I was younger I got their CD and listened to it all day
It was kind of funny because I thought I was so cool even though people gave me weird looks.
Lost My Phone
Professor
Anyone who gives you weird looks for listening to The Beatles has absolutely
no taste in music whatsoever. They will always be one of the greatest bands of all time.
My favorite Beatles albums are Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band and Abbey Road. Those albums are the shit.
ShinyMetal***
Professor
Yeah, I haven't listened to them for quite some time, I'm gonna have to add 'em to my Pandora account now.

I will, I believe I've heard of Revolver so once I listen to it, it'll all come back to me.

The Beatles are a band I appreciate more for their influence than anything else. You remove them from history, and there goes a HUGE portion of the last half-century of music...
Musically, I really dig their more experimental work, but I find the poppy stuff intolerable for the most part, so it's a bit of a mixed bag for me. I'd agree with Josh's recommendations though, those would probably be my two favourite Beatles albums (The White Album in particular is a work of absolute brilliance).

Yeah, that's one of my favorite instrumental songs :
)
What an embarrassing day for Green Bay.Why? What did
they do this time?

<crickets chirp> A number of my friends, acquaintances, and assorted hangers-on have berated me for years. They've also threatened/cajoled me into exploring TMBG. After a couple of half-hearted attempts which were totally unsuccessful, a few minutes ago I laid back in my comfy chair, emptied my mind of distractions, and cued up Birdhouse In Your Soul, Istanbul, Particle Man, and Hot Dog! Apparently I'm missing a few base-pairs from my genetic structure, because the music: it did nothing for me : (

I never much cared for TMBG myself. There are a few select songs I enjoy, but I used to live with a guy who played them fucking non-stop and the singer's voice gets really grating after a while.

While it may make no difference if genetic musical dispositions are apparently involved, Tachyon, I'd nevertheless think this worth noting (though you may already be aware): the first three of the four songs you mentioned are all from the same album--1990's Flood --which, while certainly a popular one and a staple of the early They Might Be Giants era, does have a rather folksy vibe that is not necessarily indicative of the more experimental, alternative, and even rocking musical styles that can be found on later albums (even with the characteristic quirkiness being pretty consistent throughout). If tonight's disappointment has not ended the venture entirely, then perhaps next time you could try a different selection of songs and compare the results.

Thanks for the suggestion, Tedman; do you have any recommendations regarding songs of theirs that lean toward the alt/rock quadrant?
Tedward
Professor
Hmm...maybe you could try out "Subliminal," "Experimental Film," "I'm Impressed," or "You're On Fire" (respectively the first tracks of John Henry , The Spine , The Else , and the recent Nanobots ) and see if there are any sparks there.

I like how my browser window reads "Futuram: The show must goooo onnnn...." when this thread is open.
If only.

Thanks for the suggestion, Tedman; do you have any recommendations regarding songs of theirs that lean toward the alt/rock quadrant? Listen to everything. All 16 albums. And the kids stuff.

Google Doodle tells me it would be Maria Callas' 90th birthday today. In honor of that, let's get Bizet.

You have a record player, playa? And I thought you buying CDs was retro.

Awesome. I usually only like a couple of songs from any given album, usually not the 'hit' singles, so albums are generally wasted on me. I'm very picky though.

Hello, human beings! And assorted wildlife like ducks, meerkats, and angels.
Tonight I am here to tell you that an alternative group I've enjoyed for years and years (They're on My List. The list of bands I've bought multiple albums by) - Guster!
http://www.guster.com/ Go there and download their free CD right now. How often do you get to DL a CD at no cost with the band's permission? You just give them your email address and your mailing area code, and they email you a link to the free download.
It's a live album so it sounds a little different from most of their other stuff, but it's not too far off. Oh, and it also includes several of my favorite songs by the band, so yeah. Get your download on.

I've listened to a sampling of their songs from several albums. Bliss was not obtained. Should I give the Free Hot Tnuk Live Album a chance?

Give it a whack. What, are you going to have buyer's remorse for something you got totally (and legally) for free? Like I said, this includes several of my favorite songs by them. There are entire albums by them that I don't bother with, but when they hit the bullseye they hit it hard.

At my high school, walking into someone who likes rock music is a rarity.
I'm more of a classic rock fan than a modern rock fan.
Airbourne is my favorite modern rock band, AC/DC and Aerosmith are tied as my favorite classic rock bands.
"Live It Up" is pretty catchy, Airbourne is like the modern AC/DC.

AC/DC is a nice band, but like you said, it's difficult to find someone who likes rock music in our generation. I, as I've said before, am a fan of alternative.

Of course I love alternative rock. It's partly in my veins, plus at least we have some kind of rock that is popular. I play a lot of sports video games, MLB: The Show is filled with alternative/alternative rock music in it's soundtracks through the years.

Yay, this calls for a celebration, whooo!
