Inactive PEELers (discussion and respectful rememberance).

That's all I'll say regarding this issue in this thread. I think though, that we might do well to consider a seperate thread to talk respectfully about those who have stopped PEELing for one reason or another, and how we might entice them back if they're still alive and online these days.

That's a really really great idea. Let's get on that. PEEL brings PEELers back...MOB Style!

Is there anybody that anybody remembers, but hasn't seen for a while? Anybody you recall who's been banned, drifted away, or sadly passed away? Here's a place to remember them, to talk about why you miss 'em, and maybe concoct plans to bring them back, assuming they're alive and have access to a computer.

Please bear in mind that posting people's personal information would be a bad thing, and moderators will almost certainly delete your post entirely. You may also annoy them enough that you get banned. You'll pretty much definitely upset people if you're not respectful and serious when talking about people who have or who may have died, and you're going to be mauled to hell and back if you start talking like you knew people who stopped PEELing regularly before you even joined.

Any who might feel the inclination - be advised that if anyone makes disrespectful comments or jokes about our friends who have passed away, you'll end up with a lot of this forum's most prolific and long-standing members despising you, and explaining to the mods why you need to be permanently banned.

Bearing all that in mind, is there anything that anybody wants to share?

I tried messaging someone I found sifting through threads from ten years ago whose location I noticed was actually like 20 minutes from mine (the closest PEELer I had ever realized existed, the previous closest being Jon at an hour and a half away). I got no reply It was from ten years ago though. Crazy that I didn't notice it then, but I also didn't compulsively stalk people's profiles like I do now.

I've sent you a PM containing the information you'll need to make a start on looking up any vanished PEELers. It contains priviliged information which I think I can trust you not to pass on, as well as details of a powerful tool for people-searching.

It probably goes without saying, but I miss ghoulishmoose. They did come back for a while in 2010, but they've vanished again for another year or so. I think they will probably come back again though, I'm pretty confident that someday they will, but when, and for how long, that I'm not sure about. They were my best friend, so obviously I miss them. A great person, in fact I've never related as much to any person before or since knowing her...

I also miss Teral, and of the missing Peeler's who we've known nothing about for a few years, he worries me the most. It just doesn't seem right that he would just stop posting like that. I hope that he's still ok, and maybe he's got other priorities in life now. If that is the case though, I hope he remembers to drop by on Peel soon...

At least we know that Hilly, Jberges, and Kloudes are all fine, being that most of us older folk are friends with them on the Facebooks. I'm friends with a few not-so-active/inactive PEELers on there, including NP, FishyJoe (he hasn't been the most active in recent months/years, for obvious reasons), Newhook, Masty, and futurama_freak, all of whom still frequent my page there and drop comments and lines every so often. It's good to know they're not dead or suffering from boneitis..

Well, using MelBee as an example, I can happily state that I met up with her several times while I was in Nottingham over the past few years. I've got her on facebook, though I'm terribad at keeping in touch with people.

Ghoulishmoose and I have seemed to have done a swap, if I remember rightly. She lives in North Somerset, like me, and I think she went to Nottingham just after I left. Uni work may explain her re-absence

I also miss Teral, quite a lot. Bringing up NationStates, CyberKnight has disappeared though I remember he seemed to becoming ever busier with real life. Teral's absence I can't account for

There aren't many NSers left here on PEEL. It's mostly the new corps (Xanfor, Archonix, Frisco) that remain. Nurdbot's gone inactive, NP's got himself a life and checks in every once in a while (actually just a week ago), and the others ... well who knows!

That sounds like quite an ordeal. Glad you managed to get yourself back together again (presumably) and come back to Peel. Hopefully the other absences on Peel aren't for similar reasons...

That's when NS started to make less and less sense for me. And that's saying something, since we had just gotten off a storyline involving Egyptian deities.

All active on Facebook now and then, actually. I tried to get them to come back, but they're all happy in their new, PEEL-less lives.

I wanted to put the "sad hat" smiley on the end of that, but can't find it. Oh well.

Ah those were good days. Spending hours coming up with ridiculous yet awesome stories, reading Xanfor's insanely long and in depth posts, blaming everything on Vanguard.

Re: DROOPWiki - I see it as a good and bad sign. Good that it hasn't disappeared, though if I remember rightly the ktsltd domain had something to do with his father's business (not that there has ever been anything at ktsltd.co.uk apart from Chris' NationStates works) but bad because several of us have tried to contact him offering (what we think/thought) were fairly straight forward solutions to the problem and though he said he'd have a look at it at the weekend, that was well over a year (if not two?) ago, and I haven't heard anything from him since

We could salvage everything if we could just get our hands on the database dump. From there all our text would be saved. I could upload it onto a local MediaWiki server of mine to extract it and send everyone each of their articles, or perhaps just copy them over to MetaDROOP myself.

To be honest I have simply re-written a lot of the stuff I'm missing, but I understand the frustrations, time and problems involved in that. I just wish I knew how to access the stuff there. Funnily enough some information is still listed, eg there's a snippet of information about Greater Zedoljev's Chief Foreign Minister listed on some German business networking site...
