We've been getting restless once more... and that time of times has returned. We are now in the 12th month of the 7th year of the 2nd millenium, and as always, we set out to do things up right. This is the 6th innaugural event of the PEELies, the most beloved of all PEEL award shows, and it's time to get the ball rolling. We need a council... probably 7 of 9. We need categories. And ummm... we need PEELers and PEELettes, like YOU, the one reading this thread!!! Last years council was thusly: Jicannon (Grand Headmaster of Affairs 2006) Futurama_Hil futurefreak Mr.MastodonFarm Nasty Pasty TheLesbianLeela TheMadCapper Jicannon would have by tradition say on how the council heads up. I think he's off in marital bliss right now though. 3 of the other individuals aren't super active as of late, although TLL came around a couple days ago. I think that leaves MMF, NP, and TMC left over to claim their spots. We'll need more volunteers for the occassion because this is some hard work. I know this is going to be grand PEEL... Arch, Winna, TMC, Jic, Pasty and FF should be in there. Plus three others. I'm thinking Snart, Nink, and Nurbot. Just to get a good mix in there.
I also think that we need to start suggesting categories.
I'd like to nominate SpacemanSpiff for funniest PEELer, and Melllvar for best bearded male PEELer, and also Nixorbo for most fearsome PEELer. Hmm. I'd like to suggest the categories "noobiest noob", "biggest birthdayclown", "most insane", "most in need of a life outside PEEL", "person who spends too little time on PEEL", "person who makes other people cringe", "person you wish you could ignore", "person who ought to post six times more often than they do", "nicest female lady", "most chivarous PEELer in a non-scary way", "scariest person in the PEELiverse" and "most vital to the survival of PEEL". There should also be an extra PEELie for the person with the most PEELies. Yes there should. I say this impartially.

I agree that this shouldn't be an oligarchic clique. That's why we basically wiped the Council clean last year. A way to make sure the Council isn't oligarchic is to put a two-year term for members. This way, we have experience from the previous Council and previous members can reclaim their seats, yet we still bring in new members and ensure that we won't have the same people every year.

I like ic's proposal on the 2 year term for council members. I'd completely agree with you on the oligarchic smart remark ben, but in reality, the council did change a lot last year, and over half the seats this year will be filled with new people.
I believe the process last year was thus, someone held the highest seat, in this case it was Jicannon. I believe Archie easily has it this year, cause he's great. Then the high council member selected the rest of the members choosing from people who were willing to be on the council.
The council then created categories (or did we have PEEL nominated categories?). At any rate, we had a lot of newer and more varied categories, which is a good thing.
Then we had a nominations thread, where each members was allowed to nominate individuals for the categories (so that PEEL had a say in who they would vote for, versus the council). Then voting occurred. I believe on a whole, this was a more democratic process.
The awards ceremony itself should be a little more well made this year versus last year though. I heartily enjoyed the webpages from previous years created solely to document the results. The speech thing was pretty clool as well.

After all is said and done, I believe someone's account on the wiki is going to create a page to document the rules governing the ceremony, so that we have less chaos in getting it working.
