Alright! Let's get a PEELathon happening somewhere in Aussie. To tell you the truth, I don't mind travelling, but thats' up to everyone. Sydney was my first guess, but I can head down to Melbourne if there's enough popularity down there.
So.. who, what and when.. What do you think?

Yes that is a good idea. Obviously I suggest Perth, although I would accept either Melbourne or the Gold Coast, because I can stay there for free.

I think Melbourne is where the majority of Australian PEELers live, and I also wouldn't be able to travel to another city.

I could be persuaded if interesting people were going, but if it's just a bunch of high school kids who registered in the middle of 2003, then I can't see the point.
I suggest Byron Bay, at the same time as Splendour.

It's wierd... there seems to be sizeable PEEL comunites both in Melbourne and in Perth... which leads me to believe that they both are, in fact, the same city in diguise.
I'd go but, y'know. Broke. No car. Lazy.

I might be willing to head to Melbourne again, if i have to, but the last meet-up there reminded me how much i hated it, i'm a Rural boy, and i hate hook turns. Any place further than that, i'll be pretty objective to. But we'll play it by ear.

We did have one... just a piss weak one. Me, MelBee and Robiben...

Whether it's worth me going is another issue, it's pretty much guarenteed that wherever you have it, will be at least 300km from me.
It's doubtful i'll be able to get thrashed, because of a mixture of 0.0 probation, and (probably) a long drive back.
Maybe i can be the nerdy designated driver. :rolleyes:
Also, work, another problem. My hours are very unpredictable though, so we'll see. Getting time off is easy, but they don't like having anything less than a month's notice. Fucked if i know why, as the rosters are made every week... but anyway...
Anyway, that's all the things that are potentially stopping me, if those things sort themselves out then i'll go.
I'm willing to pick people up, if nessesary, but i'm not going to go too far, and you'll have to put up with my music. :p
I can take four people (preferably only three) other than myself in the car, although my car is small, so don't expect a comfy ride. :p
And if you want to get picked up, you'll have to go to a place i can find, without driving around for hours looking for it.
If you're desperate for a ride, and you live ages away from me, catch up with me on #fc, we might work something out.
One other thing, Melly will be making it back to Aus, October-ish, which is probably too late, but it's worth mentioning.

I'm in this situation where I need notice before things happen, because I don't really know what's happening. As for Ben's 'criteria', yes, check back in 1½ years, check back with me in a month.
I live in Adelaide, which nobody else seems to, even though there's a Peel Street. I'd be more inclined to go to Melbourne than Perth, but theres a possible accomodation problem. I'm planning to get a job in the next month, so that might put a spanner in the works. I didn't even think I'd be were I am now looking from two months ago. Also the middle of June is out, I'm meeting other people (freaks?) then. Also, I'm sorta broke, no car, no license, though I could finally go and get it [a driver's license].

Well, it seems over winter I"ll be in Mount Buller at my new job for the season, so I"ll be reasonably close to Melbourne!

Melbourne is the Perfect Geek City. Or so I hear. And I reckon it would be better to do during the summer. Its cold enough in Brisbane as it is, I dont wanna go somehere colder, and since melbourne is Milder It'll be better during the summer. Since in brisbane it'll be Unbearably Hot. Plus it means at least some Time spent travelling in an Air conditioned Environment <IMG SRC="http://peel.gotfuturama.com/ubb/biggrin.gif">
I'd probably need a fair bit of time to arrange the whole thing anyway, so later is good.

I will be in Melbourne (Hopefully melbourne. That's what we have requested, but it might end up being Sydney.) mid July, on a family holiday (how schweet).
I may attend an Australian PEEL meet- although it should be interesting to see my families reaction "People from the internet!? You'll be killed!".
I will attend only if Ben and Angie go, no offense to the rest of you, but I have no idea who most of you are and I know I'm more likely to be killed by Ben, who I have known for three years, rather than teen newbie who I don't know.
PS- Ben, I would love to go to Splendour, however I have now felt the icy grip of poor uni life (as you predicted) and have no money. Really, I have about $100 in the bank right now.

Well, didn't even end up going to Melbourne, it was Singapore by some strange twist of fate. I like Melbourne better than Singapore, though.
Looks like I won't be leaving Perth for a while people, so you'll have to just pretend I'm there or turn up at one of the parties I'm at in Perth. I'll be the tall one drinking beer and dancing.

Okey-dokey, we need to revive our intentions for an Aussie PEELathon. We need to set a date, and who will be coming. If the North Americans and Europeans can organize AGI's, we should at least try instead of sitting around moaning about how much you hate a certain city.
So, first things first. Who's up for one sometime next year?

Hey guys, I'm here in Melbourne (and loving it) and would love to come, but I'm in New Zealand on hols for three weeks! I'm back on 23rd January so can make it any time after that - I'm here till June. I live in South Melbourne at the mo near the beach. Huzzah!

Thanks for the info, i'll check out plane ticket prices. Haha i've never been on one before, the only time i was going to get one was for a rugby tour up to the gold coast and i broke my knee in the match beforehand. I wasn't doing anything cool either, i was running to get a ball that was down our end and my knee just fucking snapped!

@Ninaka: As a survivor of British, European and American meets I can confirm one big difference. The Americans organise things. The Euros and Brits turn up at an agreed meeting point and find the next pub. Plans to organise things go out the window after a few beers. I blame America's 21 drinking age.

I was personally thinking organising something around the Comedy Festival. I think it'd be an awesome time to be in the city down here, and I'm sure we could go see a show or two. It at least gives us something to laugh at besides ourselves, ya know? :) Anyway, that's in April sometime.
Blane: Take the plane. I saw tickets on www.flightcentre.com.au (http://www.flightcentre.com.au) last month one way to Melb for $61.00, then they went up to $81.00 a week later when I wanted to buy them. Way cheap still! And only 90mins or so. Someone can pick you up from the airport, I live nearby coincidentally.
Anyway, those are my two cents. I think comedy festival goes for a few weeks so we have a window of time to play with, but the only thing would be accommodation organisation during that time might be a little harder. We'll see. I work in teh hotel industry so when I get a job/start work, you never know if I can find you a deal :)

@Ninaka: Well last time in New York there was a meal arranged with a table booked for the correct number of people. A barbeque was laid on by the hosts at our meeting point (Nasty Pasty and co.'s house). Rooms were booked. Something approaching a tour was laid on. It was great.
The European meets have had I think two museum tours laid on in total, and both were spur of the moment things. Pub trecking has been the order of the rest of the day. Ah Amsterdam, what a time that was.

At this pre-AGI meeting we will discuss (but not motion) our proposal for a Committee of Overseeing to decide members of the Council of Elders and the date they will meet, on which henceforth they will put forward a rough idea for what date the AGI will be on. At this point we may lodge nominations for the Panel of Efficient-Decision-Making! Ready... set.... GO!
So you know what? Start planning for the second one, and let's see if we can actually get a date together that everyone can agree on! House party, pub crawl, concert, whatever! Being April already, I think June is looking more plausible because we really can't get our acts together.
I am finally venturing out into the city of Melbourne for the first time since being here. Scott (roomie) took me to Minotaur last weekend... oh good lord, I was never prouder of being a nerd. At least I wasn't 40-something standing over the comic-book section chuckling to myself.
Anyway, I thoroughly enjoyed the idea that that shop exists. It actually reminded me that we need to get the Peelathon organised very soon so we can make plans.
Over a few beers at Southbank, my opinion still stands for drinks on a Saturday afternoon. And they sell Schooners!! :D

Haha i actually ment a comedy night that wasnt part of the comedy festival. The elephant and wheelbarrow has great comedy every wednesday night for 10 bucks. I went this week and it was friggin hilarious. I'm pretty sure its all ages although to buy grog you need to be 18 of course. I am also open for the idea of going to a festival show.
There is a show called Eye Candy which i think might be a good one to go to, i saw 2 of the guys who are in it and they were excellent. Although i noticed they were attractive as hell and that the show is 4 guys...so it might be more of a thing for the ladies.
But yes i'm still up for doing whatever as long as it involves larges ammounts of alcoholic beverages.
Also i suspect ribbons is trying to force makeouts for his own perverted pleasure. I say we get him intoxicated and throw him at a large group of over 40's and run for it. Oh how the tables will be turned.

In a futuile attempt to partially clear my name, the drunk story goes as follows. The short version anyway...
Bascially i got really drunk, and lost my mate but found him at a 7-11. He was kinda sad so i bought him 4 pies, one of which was a curry pie. But when we got home he just went and threw up and went to sleep, i on the other hand ate all 4 pies, and in the process got sause all over my face and legs and arms. So i had a shower....
The End
Now for the other stuff. Bascially as i said in my post i am happy to have the date pushed back to June 16-18th. Baggeh and Ninaka meeting is kinda our excuse for us all to get in the same room, and thats fine. So lets do that.
Although i havent seen anyone else reply to the new date yet...they all havent forgotten about us have they?

And the whole thing about the biggest cocktail in the world.
We head into the Casino, being tourists, and go for some food after wandering aimlessly for forever. We figure we should really go inside and explore - and see the bar. I'm like uhhhh oh dear, but get easily convinced into having "just one drink"
So we flick through the drink list and come across cocktails. They're kinda pricey for $13 each but figure it's a special weekend. Then we flick the page and come across "Super Cocktails" for $30. I think WOW that must be really super for that much money. The bar lady offers to show us how big they are and I nearly die in laughter because it was so bloody awesome.
Think of Wayne's World and that big blue thing. With lots of umbrellas. Oh yeah... I say "One please!"
Soooo technically we only did have one drink. But it took us nearly 45 minutes to get through it. :D
After that we convinced The Beard to show up, and eventually Ribbons too. And didn't leave until much later in the evening.
That did involve a horrible chicken roll from 7-11 at some point. Whhyyyyyy did I buy that??!
