After getting my first post closed for irrevalency, (which I'm not bitter about) and the embarrasement there-of, I'm going to play it safe and talk about a subject I know in a forum that it's allowed to be in.
Music.
Now, given that this is a massive board (do I remember correctly that there are over 4 thousand registered members?) I'm not going to pretend that it's possible for me to not duplicate a thread already out there, but I'm not going to slog through the entire backlog yet to find out.
Without a doubt, I have as about a varried music taste as they come. Music comes about as naturally as breathing to me. As does rambling on about nothing, as I'm sure you've noticed.
Now, you're saying, what is this exciting topic that I've had to read three paragraphs to find out?
I'll tell you.
What is the one musical expression you hate more than any other?
While I am generally negatively dispositioned against most rapcore and screamo bands, there are a few of each which I can tolerate. Now, Creed and their legion of knock-offs, which I'll call radio friendly rock, I have yet to find anything that causes a less severe reaction than murder.
You don't have to be as specific as I've been. You can just say "country" or "black metal"... or, seeing how this is not a board geared at music fans, you can say "all music."
-
1. (tie) Country
1. (tie) Rap/Hip-hop
3. Creed, Nickelback, etc.
-
I haven't looked around myself, but if you want to research a topic you can use the search button (http://www.peelified.com/cgi-bin/search.cgi?action=intro&default=12) to find out if it has already been posted or not. Mods will usually close a thread on already existing topic pretty quickly, even if the old topic hasn't been touched for a while.
But in response to the topic, I'll take rap. No musical talent required, only sadism and profanity.
-
I would say country; particularly new country, And Conway Twitty.
-
1. Country
2. Western
3. R&B - the new kind, which is a total misnomer, in my opinion.
-
I'm going to agree with eggs... new country is terrible. It's like bad pop music, but performed by Southern people... or just people who talk like they are. Older country I'm a fan of, but you'd need to go back around thirty or forty years for something good.
Also bad are: 70's/80's hair bands, high school emo bands, anyone performing rap metal, teen-pop ballads, generic rap songs featuring generic R&B singers, people with a good voice who feel the need to oversing everything, Christian rock, Enya and the like, death metal where the vocals sound like someone is burping into a microphone... I could go on, probably.
..for the record, I think rap/hip-hop is in a hair band state right now. And I think that Nickleback sucks.
-
1.Country, although the old stuff wasnt THAT bad.
2.Gangsta Rap, which is a majority of Rap/R&B today.
3.Death Rock/Christian Rock/Emo
-
Boy am I thankful that I don't get Country & Western TV here any more!
I'm going to say R&B like Melll though, total misnomer and the people that like it don't even know what real R&B is. It falls into one of two categories: Pop or Rap. And both are mass-marketed pap.
Secondly, people who take Eurovision seriously. Come on, it's a great night of entertainment if you just let it be. Like watching a soap and pretending it's a comedy show.
-
Pop, pure 100% Pop. Death to it.

I'd personally like to kill the person who labelled Beyoncé, R.Kelly and their ilk, "R&B".
To me, R&B is, and always will be, Rhythm & Blues: Sonny Boy Williamson, Howling Wolf, Robert Johnson, John Lee Hooker, BB King, and so on...
-
There is absolutely no need for anything called funkmetal.
-

And you know that, I cant stand this genre purely because it sounds rubbish and all the singers are nothing more than glorified backing vocalists. :puke:
1) R&B - the new kind
2) UK garage or 2-step - trying to be to Britain what HipHop was to America.
3) Commercial dance music and I mean commercial such as Fragma or Sash! and recently Faithless , Ian van Dahl and all the other DJ so and so's churning shit out every other week.
-

Amen brother.
-
Yeah, and Sam & Dave is the pinnacle of R&B. Here's how it plays out:
Beyonce's "Crazy in Love": not R&B.
The Chi Lites' "Are You my Woman": R&B.
Even though Beyonce essentially sampled the latter song in its entirety.
-
I agree about the whole new R&B thing.
1)UK Garage - They play this crap in the common room all day. How is it music? It's just ... noise!
2) Boy bands. I don't think I have ever liked a boy band (by this I mean buy their albums and stuff). Blue, Westlife, etc are all just clones. Busted recently tried to shake off the boyband image by throwing a TV and a toaster out of the window. I still hate them.
3) Euro Dance music - Say 1990, dance music was a "new thing" then. Now it just sucks ass. It's the same thing over and over again.

Personally I don't care if you use the search engine or not. But we could've done without the sermon. nOObs drawing attention to themselves in this manner are pathetic.
And I'm not sure why you should find having your thread closed embarrassing. Just about every PEELer has had threads closed at some point or other. You're not being singled out for special treatment.
-
As a fan of the Blues Brothers, I think it's a crime that this modern stuff be classed "R&B". I don't hate the music, I just don't think it's Rythem&Blues at all.
Rap I do like, if the lyrics are clever and interesting, but there's a lot out that isn't.
Garage: F'eh.
Lots of dance music I don't like. Lots of wannabes in there. But there are a few I really do like.
Pop's mostly annoying.
But perhaps the worst offender is Boy Band Love Ballads from about 1989 onwards - such pathetic excuses for songs. :nono:
-
1. Anything you hear on TV
2. Anything you hear on radio
I don't really need a 3, well, unless you want to throw Country into the fray, but that goes without saying.
-
1. 'Boy Bands' This includes Linkin Park and all that
2. Nu Metal Regular metal is fine
3. Er... shit music.
In all honisty there is good music in all styles. Even drum and base. I just listed some types that have a high percentage of drivel (about 70% I would guess).
(Also hip hop rules (most the time), you foo!)

I agree 100% with that post. except about the hip hop.
-
-R 'n B, the invasion of black music forced onto us by the big labels.
-Pathetic hip hop
-Garage, luckily it's not so popular here
-whiney American teen "punk" pop
-
RnB/Rap/Hiphop - I bloody hate it especially when I go and see my mum and dad, my brother always put Hip Hop and crap on TV and we have to put up with it. That is why I always have arguments over the TV. Even my mum and dad won’t tell him to turn over. I’m not being racist and stuff but why is Hip Hop full of black people. We only got one white rapper and that is Eminem.
Pop – you got to hate pop but sometimes you started to like one or two pop songs and that is annoying.
BoyBands - They all suck apart from Phixx in which I think that they ok. Why don’t they bring back Take That?

- MTV's Hip Pop and R n' B- that's not what either of those genres really is. There is a lot of great hip hop around, it just doesn't get any airplay or screentime. Hip hop is not about booty and bikinis. It's not about "bling bling" (a word that should be killed on sight- it shouldn't exist). I am pretty sure hip pop today is all about who's been shot. Seriously, Fitty' Cent, the absolute bottom feeder of creativity, gets all his so-called street-cred becuase he took nine bullets throughout his years. He's 100% devoid of any kind of musical talent. But his videos have hoohoos, so he's gotta be great, right?
- And assembly line pop. The stuff that gets released by Britney, Atomic Kitten, Holly Valance and all boybands. What gives it its appeal? This baffles me endlessly. And the girls scream, weep and swoon whenever they see the boyband casanovas. This is even more of a mystery to me. Because we all know that a guy is a marvelous wonder whenever he has the God.given ability to sing other people's songs while giving every girl in the crowd the eye and pointing his fingers sensually. Which is another thing I don't get- How can you point your fingers sensually? I don't know, but they do it all the time.
- P!nk- she's not a fucking rebel, dammit! She's just fond of showing her teeth in photographs. And alcohol.
And of course there are others. Avril Lavigne has been inexcusably mislabeled. GC should just come out of the closet- "we're a pop-rock-ish band with tuned down guitars". Crazytown should just die. Now.
..and then some.

Phixx = losers from Pop Idol: The Rivals = boyband = BAD.
Ha, ha, bring back Take That! I went through some photos yesterday and found my sister's 12th birthday cake with a Take That logo on :laff: ...but I admit, I liked them too
Again, I don't like boy bands. They stop good music.
-
I don't like hip-hop- ESPECIALLY not Norwegian hip-hop... People rapping in Norwegian just sounds stupid. But I hate all kinds of hip-hop really.
And I don't like boybands. Argh. And I don't like bands that are constructed on a TV show..
Oh, and Avril Lavigne, Good Charlotte and Busted... *Isn't too fond of them either*
-
If you consider Techno/Trance music.. then that's the kind I hate above all others.
-
Placebo, R.E.M., the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Squeese, Madness, Spunge. Yeah, I like wierd stuff.
-
I completely forgot about Busted. That punk band. What's the deal with that guy who thinks he has to move his head in that moronic pheasantlike way? I'm talking about the white/black-haired guy.
::Goes to post some busted crap in the "bad lyrics" thread::
...and to Guy: what do you like then?
-
Urgh! Yeah, trance should definately get a place on my list! And again, I'll have to say that especially Norwegian trance makes me very, very sad... with people who sing Norwegian, plus trance music. I just can't understand how people can like that kind of music.

i couldn't agree more with this post.
let me add everything "punk" that also airs on mtv on a regular basis and also especially nu metal (although that could be what you call rap metal) which, as you can already judge from the name, is the 1337 version of metal, and that's no compliment.
and then of course generic pop (and sometimes rock). examples of this genre can be seen by turning on mtv, assuming they're not airing the osbournes: 9821th season or dismissed or other crap like that.
-

That is ignorant- I will say no more of it. Unless you oppose me. Then you'll be crushed.

Anyway, my biggest music hates are boybands and bubblegum pop, Ibiza crap, and anything Pop Idol or Fame Academy related...
-

How is it ignorant? I shit you not when I say I've heard a song like that... the singer was literally burping out words. I was just about to agree with your defense of non-radio hip-hop, too. :p
-
Heavy/Black/Hard Metal, Garrige (init), Boy Bands, Ibiza crap, Pop Idol + Fame Academy.
That pretty much rules out all kinds of modern chart music except for people like Nora Jones + Katie Meluia
-

Beastie Boys... Granted they haven't had a new album out since 1998, but all that should change this summer...
-
On death metal: There are death metal vocalists who can't growl for shit. These are not the ones I had in mind before. Just like there are vocalists and musicians in other genres who couldn't hit a note with their voice or instrument if their life depended on it. Just like rock fans don't enjoy all rock, death metal fans don't have to enjoy all death metal. See?
-
Yeah, death metal is a sort of catch-all for crappy high school bands that can't play their instruments, but it's also got some real good stuff in it if you know what to look for.
-
You can never go wrong with good old anti-christian Morbid Angel.
-
1) Reggae. I absolutely fucking hate it.
2) Death metal with gross out shock lyrics(ie. Cannibal Corpse, Dying Fetus, Skinless, etc.). It shames good metal like Cryptopsy and Starkweather.
3) Forgot this one before: street punk. All those bands like the Casualties, the Virus, Lower Class Brats, and even shit I can somewhat tolerate like A Global Threat and Defiance all have nauseatingly bad lyrics about "being punk" and "rebelling" by wearing demin vests with 500 million studs and spiking your hair with dog shit...and if these guys are as poor as they claim, it's probably because they spent all their money looking fashionable.
PS: Most underground rappers are white. Necro, the guys in Non Phixion, Powerbar Ernie(aka Copywrite), they're white guys. The only underground rap I've heard that isn't white guys I know for sure is Dead Prez. Very intelligent group there.
And I bet there's funk metal out there. I've heard people call Primus funk metal. Primus rocks.
-
Yeah, the underground is white bread, USA.
Brother Ali is a good non-white underground rapper. He's albino. :p
Also, how can you be from Rhode Island and not mention Sage? Sinner.
-
Suppose to extend my list:
Techno (I can't think of a single good techno song)
Trance (same as above)
99% of all Rap. I've heard a couple good songs, but even those get old real quick.
all Hip-Hop, can't stand it.
R 'n B... Just the same, boring junk.
Kiddy Punk, the kind of Punk that gets played on MTV.
Pop and all its siblings... should be killed.
Mostly whatever is on MTV, I'll hate. :)
I also don't care much for most Metal, but that depends. There are good songs, but as with most genres the only popular bands suck and thats what you hear most.
-

Oh shit, I knew I was forgetting someone. I don't listen to rap though so whatever.
-
Yeah, reggae sucks. There's some great music in there somewhere, but it's been ruined by hippies and undergrads. And street punk is for 16 year olds. It's abominably bad, lyrically, but it's orders of magnitude better than pop-punk of any sort. But maybe I'm just bitter about these styles of music because I live in Santa Cruz and I'm surrounded by the worst, most cartoonish offenders in both categories.
The real good rap is dead. No more breakers and b-boys. It's sad. I was thinking about it watching Luck of the Fryrish on DVD last night. I want Kurtis Blow back.
Also, I hate hair metal, like Poison, or, say, Bang Tango. But the real headbanging stuff from the same era is still awesome, and sometimes it's hard to draw the line. Thrash and speed metal rule too. I think power metal is amusing, but nu-metal and rap metal, as has been mentioned before, should be punishable by death.
Also, Alanis Morrissette is the worst thing that happened to music in the twentieth century. Words cannot express any portion of my loathing for her.
-
Trance.
The "trendy" people in my class insist on playing it in art (which is the only lesson they can get away with it in). It sounds like it belongs in Butlins for god's sake!
-

- any and all "screaming music"
- 99% of country
- 99.9999% of christian music (I don't have a problem with Jesus, but I don't see why this needs to be an entire genre when you take one or two songs and cover everything.)
- 90% of top 40 (and when I like stuff from the radio, I like it in that "this is fun for a while" way, when you know you'll hate the song by next month")
- I'll probably get crap for this but I really don't enjoy most classic rock. Or all that drug related music like jimi hendrix or that stupid phase the Beatles went through. I'm sorry.

Look, if there's one thing you can do to piss me off, it's to generalize almost everything I listen to with the completely ridiculous label of "screaming music". I was going to go back and edit that post, but I guess it's too late now considering you quoted it.
-
Country music is tolerable if only because it can be damn hilarious. If you don't believe me, get GTA out, and drive the pickup around for a bit.
Hiphop and rap music... well that's not even music. Chart music is where the evil is.
I like my music old and hard, CLASSIC ROCK baby!
-
As long as classic rock doesn't mean the Eagles. I fucking hate the Eagles.
-
Originally posted by VelourFog:

Why not? You have to have a good reason for not liking ZZ Top and GNR, even if the rest of the genre disgusts you.
-
I can tolerate most crappy music because I don't have to listen to it but I can't stand Emo because it gets lumped in with all the alt/indie/classic/insane rock that I listen to.
-

Second! There was so much good music in my opinion from the era now known as "Classic Rock". Pink Floyd, ZZ Top, Yes, The Who, early Aerosmith, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Rush, Tom Petty just to name a few.

Also I'm annoyed, that is to say fed up with some of the chumps on this forum thinking that most electronic and/or dance music is techno.
Techno (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Techno_music) is its own genre.
Moving on, I cant stand the pop world of britney spears and chrissy aguilera who to me are really just vocalists and good backing singers stuck into the lime light because everyone loves the adlib they spit out so well, think Destinys child.
But I like music from most genres, although I rarely buy albums; there would probably only be a couple of songs I like on it.
Mind you, I like Nelly furtados new album enough to have it bought for x-mas for me.

Hi! Do you think you could use any MORE curse words? It's helpful when you reply directly to my post because I can go right to the link from the replies box on the front page. It makes it a lot easier to delete your post, alert mArc, ban you, etc.
Please don't do that. I'm allowed to not enjoy a certain type of music.

You must not have read my post before about how I was going to edit it.
But in any case, it wasn't so much what you said, but the way you said it. It has been my experience in trying to seriously discuss music with people that anyone who says "screaming music" has no idea what they're talking about, because a lot of bands scream, whether you can understand the lyrics or not. It's hard to be loud. And "screaming music" encompasses quite a few genres. In any case, yes, the way I worded it was harsh, but really, I can get pissed off pretty easily when I hear those words and I'm not always thinking first.
-
1. Rap: Is it just me who can't tell what they're saying?
2. Pop: 'nuff said.
3. New Country Music: Sucks.
-
So theres a 'New' Country music scene eh?
Wonder if they'll do a New Blues....
...oh, I'm sorry - Nu Blues.
-
nu-metal
not all of it
i like system of a down for example
also i hate those avril lavigne people
it's all so fake

You know, you're making people who like music with lots of screaming look bad.
I like this music, but don't bother - many people don't, and it's okay. Apparently that's music you either like or not. There's hardly something in the middle.
Linkin Park and Limp Bizkit are not "screaming music" unless you mean that it makes you want to scream, in a bad way. In that case, it is.

Also, I totally forgot to mention how much I hate techno, trance and similar crap.
Don't get me wrong - I like certain electronic music, but i want this music to be complex, both music- and lyrics-wise. I realize that this is not music you can dance to, so it makes sense that techno and similar stuff is not like that. But that's also the reason why I hate it.
The worst however, is "Schranz". I don't think anybody else here knows what it is. Consider yourself lucky. It's like a faster, harder version of techno, with even less melody and it's even more repetitive. It's rather popular over here despite the fact that it causes irreparable brain damage just by listening to it at normal volume.
-
Agh, I already made my response to this. Please read it.

Ay Techno aint to bad, try it at a rave or club you never know... I've never really thought of it as music to sit at home and listen to, drive to for sure but not at home.(Unless I'm mixing.)
As for 'Schranz' I haven't heard of it but saying that its harder and faster then techno makes it sound like Gabba or Gabba hardcore etc.. thats some horrible shite! coming in at around 300Bpms. Nice.

You might be right, techno might be a lot better if you actually dance to it, just like ska. Ska is a lot better if you're drunk and dance ska-pogo... ;)
But I'm personally not much of a dancer but more of a person who sits down and listens to the same song over and over again with headphones, focussing on different parts of the music, so I guess techno's just not my kind of music.

I know, and I've read it. But I still had to add my 2 50 cents (that way, i'm more gangsta). Also, I was going for some kind of compromise here.
And i saw another opportunity to bash Linkin Park and Limp Bizkit.
-
Originally posted by TheLampIncident:

I did read it, but the fact remains that you posted it in the first place. Think before you post and then you won't have to edit when people call you on it.
added: i understand that "screaming music" is not a genre, that it spans a lot of genres, and that it probably has a lot of different, professional names that I am ignorant of. I admit this. The fact remains that listening to music which uses a lot of screaming is about as fun (for me, personally) as getting all my teeth pulled out without any drugs. It doesn't appeal to me on any level, but I never said that other people aren't allowed to like it. I didn't curse it out, or rant and rave.
-
Well, the reason I get angry when people call it screaming music is because the vocals seem to be the only thing they focus on. Nobody can just take the music for what it is anymore, it has to have great lyrics and vocals. I don't see what the big deal is, I mean sure, good vocals are a plus but I don't think bad vocals will necessarily detract from a band's sound.
-

And in the end, isn't that what's really important?
-
In the end, it doesn't really matter...
Anyway, as for "screaming music", I'm not a huge fan, but I do like some of it. Fear Factory for example, some of that stuff floats my boat pretty well.
-
To me, I don't exactly hate certain genres, just various bands and groups that represent them. I usually listen to 'energy music', stuff that gets me moving. So classic rock and country, while ok by me, isn't something I'd listen to on a regular basis. Wow, I'm surprised you hate it too, VF!
I hate uplifting trance, the cheesiest of all cheese music in clubs. And so called UK 'hard house' which ain't hard nor housey at all. Phychedelic trance is more up my alley, it's darker and most DJs are afraid to play it in clubs. Gabba hardcore's all right, as long as it doesn't exceed the 200bpm line.
I don't hate hip-hop, but I hate the artists that are a disgrace to hip-hop. If you do hate hip-hop, chances are you're only watching the spoon-fed crap that MTV likes to give out. "Why is it that every rapper wants to be a M@^$%#^F*$% pimp these days?" You're not looking in the right places then.

Sometimes speed is all you need. I love fast music. The faster the better. I just can't get enough.

That's cool, I like Hellfish & Producer. They mingle breakbeats and pounding fast bass drums like nobody's business. It's like speed metal, sans guitars.

Arrgh!

I really don't like music.
Why don't we all listen to a bunch of half-dead drunks playing the harpsichord? It's entertaining on so many levels!

Hi! Do you think you could use any MORE curse words?
"Could you USE any more curse words?" would've sounded better. :D
@Lampy - you're a wanker.

Yes, I'm an asshole. I thought we were past this blanking incident already.

Oh dear, Lamp boy. You've certainly gone about the wrong way to make yourself known and your opinions respected/ accepted here. Lashing out at one of the mods, as you can plainly see, is not the best way to go about starting you life at PEEL off.
Supressed rage much?
Note, make your opinions known, with solid backup/ rationalising if you're going to take it so far, or everyone will find you to be somewhat of an annoying typical newbie teen with issues tm
Which it fucking well looks like at the moment, dickhead.
I don't mind some metal, but some I can't abide. El nino and Machine Head spring to mind.

To the best of my knowledge Gabba regulary exceeds the 200bpm mark and then some! I've heard cd's reaching 300bpm. Isn't loftgroover part of the scene?

Yes, and I'm sure posting shit like this is going to help me calm down plenty. I don't need my opinions respected or whatever the hell. I'm not out to prove anything. If you don't like me, you can tell me to fuck off all you want, but all that's going to do is make me stay longer until I eventually get banned and laugh hysterically at the whole thing.
I forgot what I was talking about. But it's a very good argument, rest assured.

Yes, let's all curse and play in the big leagues! The point is, Rach is right, and you are wrong, so just live and learn. Alright?

Yeah, that's what I did...

At least I know I'm not the only one.
This happens often. I usually have trouble adjusting to new boards/chats mainly because I'm not much of a people person. I'm good with my friends and stuff, but I have trouble getting used to people I don't know very well. It usually takes a little time for me to grow on people anyway because I'm such a dick.
So whatever.
-
I understand, I'm not much of a people person either. I'm very shy and reclusive, so I infiltrated into this board extremely quietly, and didn't dare post an opinion of my own if you know what I mean for quite some time. It did help that I was already an established fan-artist, so people came to trust me sooner, but still I had a few times in my early existance here where I really lost it. I think we mostly all did at one stage or another.
Don't worry about it though, that's what I say. This whole thing will patch up soon enough. :)

I can't say whether this post is just disencouraging or also insulting.

Me and you both bruvva! This is my second profile but only after repeated attempts to get my old membership renewed and I've forced myself to calm alot since and learnt not to post "spam"...*ahem*...
Speaking of which I'll just like to say how much I hate the HipHop thang what with summer festivals selling out and dumping the techno arena for a bloody HipHop tent and having more live bands!
Bearing in mind its supposed to be and is advertised as a dance music festival...Grrr...damn teeny boppers.

Getting back on topic, I'd like to say any band with Anti in their name sucks. Whether it be Anti-Flag, Anti-Pasti, Antischism, Anti-Nowhere League, Anti-Seen, Anti-Heroes, or even Anti-Anti, it all sucks.
-
What about "Auntie"?
Got anything against them?
Cos I got a few aunties who could kick your ass!
-
Oh, Faze said something first... I was gonna ask about Anti-Suck. They rock.

I've actually never heard of that band...
Time to put Kazaa to work.
-
...um, let me know if there really is an Anti-Suck.
-
The name you'll most likely know them by is Rotting Christ.... :D
They don't suck is what I'm trying to....aah forget it

It's actually meant to be encouraging, which is the scary thing.
PS, I heart most alternative music.
