Title: What albums are you looking forward to...?
Post by: Mr.MastodonFarm on 02-28-2004 23:12
I figure we've got a thread like this for movies... so why not? I'm looking to hear what's new...

...so, I'm eager to hear Rufus Wainwright's Want Two. I've heard the songs may be longer and more orchestral than Want One, in case anyone here knows his stuff. I'd also like to hear what Cake has been working on... and I'd like them to get back on the road. The Unlimited Sunshine Tour is great, maybe the most eclectic there is...

U2's new one if it comes this year (rumours were of April this year. then September this year. Now 2005 is looking good). Eskimo Joe's album which comes out soon is another I'm looking forward to.

I'm quite looking forward to Evanescence's new album. I'd like to see what direction change they're going to make, if any now that the main songwriter has left.

And also, I know it'll be a while off yet, but another Linkin Park album would be great. Either a studio release or a reanimation of Meteora, both would be cool  :)

I can't wait for the next Tub Ring's album.

... and the next Nine Inch Nails album... I'm not even sure it will come out someday!

Same thing for the next Mr Bungle CD.

'A' are recording their new album with Deftones/Pantera producer Terry Date, so that one's gonna be awesome!

Can't wait for that one.

@GM: I read a couple of things which may interest you.  Amy Lee is apparently writing with former Limp Bizkit guitarist Wes Borland on Evanescence's new stuff.  Oh, and Mike Shinoda says there's not gonna be a "Reanimation" of Meteora - although, never say never.

A new album of one of the following bands would be nice:

Primus, Deftones, Berurier Noir, Pitchshifter, Weezer, eels, mindless self indulgence, Ludwig Von 88, System of a down, etc.

Some of them are in studios right but not all of them... Damn!

I doubt it, not like them to release 2 albums in 2 years unless it was all done in the same recording session and they couldn't cram it onto one disk.

I'm looking forward to; deftones, nine inch nails (this year, suure...) system of a down, sum41, meg lee chin, and some others that i dont remember.

Error's ep was poop.

They were recorded in the same recording session and they couldn't fit it all on one album.   ;)

That's why they came out so close together and have a very similar sound.

Yah, indeed. Radiohead will not have a new album this year. They are out of contract (http://www.ateaseweb.com/news/archive/000519.php). Sure, they could write their own check, but you know. And we all know that stars (especially Thom) talk out of their asses. But we won't have a new one this year.

The new Prodigy album, if they ever release it that is.
Am just hoping its as hardcore as the his other albums.
I say 'his' as I'm not sure what everyone else in the band does to help liam make his tunes

if that is true, hooray. i'll be looking forward to that as well.

apart from this, the bands i can think of right now are:
mclusky - mclusky are always great, especially with steve albini producing it and stuff. also, an album name with rumoured names such as "the difference between you and me is that i am not on fire" or other silly stuff i can't remember now has to be good.
q and not u - they're working on a new album as well, it will get released 2004. i think ian mackaye will also help with the production and their last two albums were already fucking awesome.
jimmy eat world - yeah, i know. pop and shit, but i liked clarity and bleed american and as they will release a new album in 2004 too, i'm looking forward to that.
sparta - the last album was rather conventional rock, but i still thought it was rather good. and i heard the new album will be a lot more experimental and will have lots of influences from the electronic area. and since tony's electronic side project was nice, this sounds promising.

then some bands i have no definite release date of or not even an idea if they're recording at all. for example: blackmail, north of america (they didn't break up apparently, yay) and also make it stop which apparently is a spazzy noise rock project by two of the north of america guys. that sounds like a pretty good thing.

Thanks for that Melll, thats pretty intersting actually.

Thats a shame that there wont be a remix album of Meteora, I'd have quite liked to hear some different versions of some of the songs on there. But thanks anyway  :)

McLusky Classic band with two classic albums under their belts.  Can't wait for the third.
Manic Street Preachers  Although this album is likely to be more pompous dad rock, I can always hope that they make some sort of musical return to their early days.
Kinesis  More socialist rock 'n' roll from the boys from Bolton.

According to Liam "It’s actually nearly done, we’ve got our deadline now and that’s the one we’re going to deliver on". And that was said last year. You’ve probably already seen this, but seeing as you’re not the only person to mention Prodigy in this thread... Liam did an in-depth interview last year in mid-December all about the album, his first proper interview since BGAT, and probably his best interview ever! It’s pages and pages long, and has track details and all kinds of other clool info.

Here's a link http://www.nekozine.co.uk/liamtalks.html (http://www.nekozine.co.uk/liamtalks.html)

Apparently it should be out in June/July, with a single preceding it. So we could potentially here about a new single anytime now...

I heard this too, and I think this could be great, since I credited Wes for all the nooks and crannies that gave Limp Bizkit that tiny shining fleck of quality (Which they tried so hard to shed)- his style stood out from the rest. (John Otto does some good stuff too). BUT-

By Wes Borland himself from the Eat The Day (his own band) website:
Clarity [02/11/2004]

I didn't think that I needed to say anything about this, but to be perfectly clear and to address many rumors I have heard, I have not, nor will I ever join the band Evanescence. Danny Lohner and I worked with Amy Lee on the Underworld Soundtrack, talked about working with her sometime again in the future, and have no plans of doing so as of right now. We are however in the first stages of doing some songs with Rob Zombie, and that looks like it's going to be good. So once again, I am not joining Evanescence. -Wes

...so it's not going to happen right now. Bummer!

I'm primarily looking forward to albums by Mew, Lise Westzynthius and The Mars Volta.

Has anyone got Easyworlds newish album yet? i will be soon as i am going to see them on Wedensday! And what is this i read with Limp bizkit and quality in the same sentence, without also the word poor?

Nobody should question Wes Borland's skill as a guitarist- that would be ignorant.
Check THIS (http://www.peelified.com/cgi-bin/Futurama/12-001411-15/#t588) out to see what LB was like without him...

Which reminds me- I am looking forward to any output from Eat The Day. They'll start gigging by march (or so I've read)... an album shouldn't be too distant now. Go Wes!
Title: Re: What albums are you looking forward to...?

Agreed, Wes was Limp Bizkit, and without him they're nothing.
Title: Re: What albums are you looking forward to...?
Post by: davierocks on 03-02-2004 01:26
You mean Limp Bizkit were ever anything other that crappy, kiddy, cock-rock-pop?
And since when did having a good guitarist mean shit?  Were the punk wars fought in vain?  Busted are good guitarists! Avril Lavigne has good guitarists in her band!
Music should be about passion and energy, Limp Bizkit don't have and never did have either of these things.
and neither do Linkin Park or Slipknot.

Yeah, they're such good musicians that they have to play make-believe in their videos. I mean- those aren't chords. The hands on the fretboards aren't even moving half the time. That's real talent.

But yes- LB had some really good guitar sequences and other quirks. I won't even go near the rest of the music (but John Otto has a good sense of varying his rhythm beyond the basic garage-rock drumming). Guitar and drums were never the problem with LB. The fake bad-ass attitude and the lame lyrics and Fred's constant attempts of pushing the "selling-out" envelope even further ("New Old Songs", if you sprechen sie my French.)

...and yes- the punk rock wars were (partially) in vain. Nobody gets the picture anymore, and all of the good stuff has sifted itself out into the subcultures, where it will probably remain. The world will never really "get" music in that way. If you can easily wiggle your waist and shake booty to a song, then it MUST be the best song in the world, right?    :hmpf:
Title: Re: What albums are you looking forward to...?
Post by: davierocks on 03-02-2004 12:18
OK, if Busted themselves aren't good guitarists, then the people who write their songs are certainly musically talented.  Does this make the music good?
No.

Post by: Pikka Bird on 03-02-2004 12:32
Yeah, they might have a talent for writing and playing catchy tunes, but not something with some kind of depth and complexity. So musical talent and musical talent aren't always the same.

Busted, Slipknot, Avril, Limp Bizkit all fall into the same trap for me. It's not that people hate the music, it's the fake attitude and pretentiousness. Admit it, somewhere deep deep down there's a part of you that thinks that.

Why is it that whenever a band becomes popular they are immediately shit. See also: Linkin Park, Blink 182, Sum 41, The Strokes...

I have no idea. The bands you mention (in the second paragraph) are actually quite good. I think it's just a desperate attempt to appear old-school/hardcore/whatever, but they're really just tagging along on a lame fad.

Man, you Scandinavians have it good.  The Hellacopters' new compilation came out there like 2 weeks ago, and still no announced US release.  And importing anything from Scandinavia costs like US$35.  I finally found the Backyard Babies' Total 13 US release for a reasonable price, but it took me months, and I still can't get any of their other albums.  And there's hordes of other awesome bands with no US distribution that cost an arm and a leg to import.  I need to go to Sweden.

Except I hate the cold.  That's why I left Canada...

I thought Megadeth finished a few years ago when Dave Mustane busted his arm?...

Also, I thought Fear Factory split after 'Digimortal'?...

Dave Mustaine has made some posts on Deth's site about a new album with original guitarist Chris Poland. It should be done by summertime.

As for Fear factory, their new album is called Archetype and is out in mid-April. It's already been leaked though so you should find it on p2p networks by now.

i don't agree with pika and convenience i quoted archie's post as i'm referring to that. however, i don't think they were ever good, these bands already sucked before they became popular. a short rant about these bands:
sum41/blink182 - face it, that's over-produced, teenage-"punk". they would actually be a lot better if they dropped their childish humor (or presented it in a funnier -that means more extreme - way at least) and stopped calling themselves "punk", since they're clearly not punk. however, their music is rather generic, no matter what.

linkin park - generic nu metal. that's an insult so bad i have nothing to add, except maybe for the amazingly annoying lyrics.

the strokes - i know many people will yell at me for that, but the strokes are overrated. a lot. why is a band that plays extremely simple songs and records them in such a shitty fashion that you get ear cancer so groundbreaking? or are they just popular because they're "retro"?
Title: Re: What albums are you looking forward to...?
Post by: Pikka Bird on 03-15-2004 09:59
I'd like to say, the guys in Blink 182 combined have an incredible sense of melody. This was not very prominent on Enema and Takeoff, but Buddha, Dude Ranch and the untitled one have some bobs and bits that I can't resist. Especially songs like "21 Days", "Fentoozler", "Waggy", "A New Hope" and "Enthused" sound good to me. I try not to listen to those who wish to define them as punk. I just consider them "cali-skate-rock" or something like that. False labelling kills everything- I think Avril could have avoided a lot of bashing if she'd been marketed in another genre (although she's not so brilliantly original)
LP might not be very innovative, but I personally think Chester has quite a marvellous voice and Hahn makes good use of his turntables and Mike makes somer crafty beats- maybe his fresh emcee skills could use some spark, but that's not my point. The rest of the band just fill in the slots.
The Strokes are overrated, but still they have a couple of songs that I have to listen to every now and then (Such as 12:51- it has a great sleepy flow... and a video based on Tron!)

Quote
Said by MANY people:
Man, Linkin Park are just crap- they're so mainstream.
...and that's all most people have to say. When I point out the hypocrasy of their statement by drawing their attention to the fact that bands such as QOTSA, Foo Fighters and NIN are also some sort of mainstream even though they are considered magnificent by most people with good taste, then they just shut up because they realize they have nothing real to add to their original statement.
Apparently you just don't think this music really stands out, and that's fine by me. But the senseless nitwits who has to make their "controversy" heard are just too much to bear.

But speaking of whether or not Blink 182/Sum 41 are punk: I don't think either of them are, but I think it is a curious fact that most people think that bands such as MxPx, The Descendents, Millencollin and whatnot are totally punkish mainly because they are not on MTV on a regular basis- they all play roughly the same style of music (although some do it better than others), but apparently the profit determines the punkyness... weird, isn't it?

On-topic: I heard that Tool might be releasing something in 2005- At least Maynard is writing some stuff. No matter what it'll be, I'm looking forward to it...

I can't take all this Linkin Park bashing....graaahhhh they write GOOD songs, GREAT music....who cares if it's mainstream....??

I'm the first to admit that I don't really like Top 40 music but they're more than that....!

I could go on but there's no point....everyone has an opinion and that's fine....woo...!  :p

Linkin Park have crossed the barrier of Metal music to Pop music (this isn't to say their music is pop as a genre, just pop in the sense it's popular; they still remained metal), and therefore have attained Pop Music’s casual flavour of the month fans. This has seen Linkin Park’s singles sell much better than the majority of Metal bands singles would, and given the band success in both album and singles charts. However, crossing this barrier has, in part, dented their image, and has caused some fans of Metal music to brand them as "sell-outs"...

Of course, there are always people like Spiff who would have hated them anyway, no matter how sucessful, or unsucessful they were. However, had Linkin Park not crossed the barrier into pop, these people would be less likely to hear of them so much, and in turn, be less likely to hate them so much...

I would like to say at this time that EVERY band on the radio sucks. All of them. There is no good radio anymore. And this isn't about old songs they play every once in a while, I'm talking about anything that's come out more recently, especially since about the turn of the century. All of it is crap. Even bands that had albums out before having radio success(ie. Korn, AFI, Nirvana, etc.) weren't even any good back then. Unoriginal, uninspired shit. I just can't say it enough.

I've heard of them. And I don't like them a lot, even though i can understand the role-playing-point. My problem with bands such as In Extremo or Rammstein is just their lyrics. It's in German, so I can't even try to ignore it, it doesn't work. And some of their lyrics are very ... well ... say, not good. In my opinion.

And while I bashed quite a few bands in this thread, people apparently get the wrong image. I don't care if a band's mainstream or not (okay, i care when it comes to buying tickets for live shows - they're a lot cheaper when it's unknown band, and that's good but it doesn't have an impact on my opinion about the band itself), I care if the music and the lyrics are good. And good means for me: Music that's either among the best in the genre at all or even better music that adds something new. And you can say what you want, but Blink182 and Sum41 did not add anything new to their genre.
However, I must say that I was pleasantly surprised about Blink's new album - at least the parts i got to hear. The music's a lot more mature and more complex.
The fact that I hate Linkin Park is because I hate nu metal. That's not very objective, I know, but I still hate it.

As for TheLampIncident's post: I don't agree. While most stuff on the radio/MTV sucks (unless you can find an alternative radio station), not all of it does. Case in point in Germany: Tomte were fairly successful over here.
Other good examples would be the Foo Fighters (okay, they used to be a lot better, but still), Jimmy Eat World and so on. I know the list isn't long, but not everything on the radion/MTV sucks, especially not everything on MTV or music television in general. I don't know about the US, but here in Germany, we have a music television station called VIVA. They're really horrible, they air more poppy stuff than MTV, but they have on great show called "Fast Forward", which only airs alternative music. It's pretty much the only show which will allow you to see videos by such artists as The Mars Volta, Dillinger Escape Plan, Guided By Voices, Aesop Rock, The Roots, Trail Of Dead and lots of other great bands. So there is hope after all.

I don't think I misunderstood you the first couple of times- I as commenting on two different things before. The first was to explain why I like Blink 182. The other was a question on my part.
Have you heard the older Blink stuff? It might not be 100% exquisite, but it has something that I can't put my finger on...
A little comment on In Extremo: (why did you include Rammstein in that comment?- even though I am slacking off on my German skills, I can still hear that their lyrics are criminally horrible) I am quite sure they have also done some songs in Old Norse. As long as I don't understand the German lyrics, then I'm good to go. The Old Norse really add to the "viking/medieval-feel" of RPGs.

I haven't heard any of Blink's older stuff. ... or maybe I have, but I'm not aware of it at least.

I included Rammstein because their lyrics fall into the same category as In Extremo's in my opinion.
However, since I play RPG myself sometimes, I understand what you mean with the RPG-atmosphere thing.

Also my post was more aimed at those who said something along the lines of "you stop liking bands as soon as they're popular". And what I wanted to say was basically: I like / don't like bands no matter if they're popular or not.
It's just that pop-punk doesn't seem as attractive to me as it was some years ago. My focus has gradually shifted towards other music, but I guess that's normal.

However, from a certain perspective, I'm thankful for bands such as Linkin Park or Blink or even Good Charlotte and Limp Bizkit. Because it introduces people to rock and that way, you can gradually introduce them to cool underground bands they would never like otherwise. Hardly nobody starts out with math-rock or noise or hardcore, it's a process of getting used to a certain aesthetic of music.

I didn't know Dillinger Escape Plan made music videos. Hopefully they're not videos from when they had Mike Patton in the band. I would love to see the insanity for something like 43% Burnt.

I've got a friend who listens to Mars Volta. I don't really find them enjoyable, and I often get irritated in his car because I'm often stuck listening to Red Hot Chili Peppers or some other crap of the sort.

I have heard Aesop Rock, but I am not really a rap fan. I have also heard of Trail of Dead, but haven't heard anything by them. There's this guy I work with who plays the Roots in the CD player sometimes. I HATE them. I also hate the Foo Fighters(anything Nirvana related blows) and Jimmy Eat World is butt.

I just like listening to noise, which must be how I can put up with bands like Anal Cunt, Lightning Bolt, and Agoraphobic Nosebleed so well.

Believe me- my focus has shifted heavily too. VERY heavily. But still there are somethings that appeal to me. For example- Blink does. Their disciples (Simple Plan, GC, and to make this list completely gross- Busted) do not! I can't explain what makes these bands attract my attention, but they're also very scarce in numbers.
But alternative rock and strange indie/metal/jazz/funk/et cetera things are my main axe now.

On-topic... again: Bloodhound Gang have posted a sample (http://www.bloodhoundgang.com/mp3/dasschnippets/dasschnippets.mp3) from the album Das Schnippets which shouldn't be too far away from release...

And yes- Primus (Les especially) pwns y00 all!

About Rammstein lyrics....as I said before it doesn't matter because the songs rock so much....! Maybe cos I'm not German though they doesn't sound silly to me.... :p

I've got the translations and yeah they don't make a lot of sense but you know.... :p

I'm a huge fan of The Mars Volta so I'm really happy to see their videos, but I was mentioning all of these artists more as examples of a kind of artists which usually do not get a lot airtime on music television.

Trail of Dead is nice (oh yeah, and i do like Foo Fighters (well, early Foo Fighters) and Jimmy Eat World, but that's not the point), but I'm not sure if they're loud enough for you...

Lightning Bolt kicks fucking ass.
If you like them, you should check out a band called Ruins (http://www.epitonic.com/artists/ruins.html). They're from Japan, and they were one of the first who tried that bass player + drummer = sheer insanity thing.
Also, be sure to check out bands such as Black Dice, Mohinder, Arab on Radar (all have legal mp3s available at epitonic (http://www.epitonic.com)) and also Shikari, which play really brutal hardcore. Their website usually offers Mp3s, but i checked it and right now all of them are down. But you can try anyway: The website (http://www.bacteria.nl/Shikari.htm).
Also: What do you think of The Locust and Orchid?

Title: Re: What albums are you looking forward to...?

Anal  Cunt just plays really really fast. Although the best thing about them is the song titles, those are often really weird and funny
Title: Re: What albums are you looking forward to...?
Post by: TheLampIncident on 03-16-2004 13:21
I would hesitate to call Anal Cunt music. It's great, but it's basically just noise. You can't hear very much. But they did do an entire album of acoustic songs all about love. Seth Putnam is actually a great writer, as these are better than real love songs.
 http://www.darklyrics.com/a/analcunt.html (http://www.darklyrics.com/a/analcunt.html)

I have heard of Arab on Radar as they are from my state. I heard someone say they're the worst band ever(apparently one of their songs is just five minutes of beeping), but I shall listen for myself. I used to listen to the Locust, but not anymore. I think the keyboard got a little irritating because you can't lay it in too heavy. As The Sun Sets is a far better band at that style if you ask me(I just can't stop whoring Providence bands). I'll make sure to check out Ruins.

Also, another band I think is cool is Backstabbers Inc. They play hardcore, but it has a lot of grind influences, so it's a very interesting mix. And I can't get enough crust punk(Capitalist Casualties, Disrupt, Toxic Narcotic, Discordance Axis) lately.

If you like noisecore and other noisy wicked things like it, you should try to get your hands on something by KLoAK.
I could dig up these samples
80% Bassminus (http://www.kloakcasa.dk/1.wma)
Photo (http://www.kloakcasa.dk/2.wma)
Relentlessly Caressing (http://www.kloakcasa.dk/3.wma)
Thermopacked (http://www.kloakcasa.dk/4.wma).
Unfortunately, they are in *.wma format which I will always dislike.
I will go looking for more- there's bound to be some loot on a review site.

Okay found one more- one of my favourites:
Contact 12 (http://www.clonemetal.dk/mp3/kloak_contact12.mp3)
...and as a bonus, I found out that the other samples are probably dead- but they might be back up sometime, so they stay.

I went into FYE today looking for the Weird Al video DVD, and I came across his new album, Poodle Hat.  I listened to the demo tracks the store offered and I was sold (unfortunately, I only had enough cash for one).  I have a good feeling that fans of Al's past work will love this new disk.

One of my favorite songs is "Bob".  It is a style parody of Bob Dylan, and every line is a palindrome.  The medley/polka is "The Angry White Boy Polka" and features System of a Down, Staind, Limp Bizkit, and Eminem (to name a few).  Eminem gets the full Al treatment with "Couch Potato", a parody of "Lose Yourself".  For those Avril Lavigne fans...you know who you are...there is "A Complicated Song", a parody of "Complicated", which could also aptly be called "Constipated".  Hilarity ensues.

Album still comes out May 25th, but tonight at midnight Iowa time (1:00 AM Eastern, 11:00 or 10:00 PM pacific)
at  http://www.slipknot1.com (http://www.slipknot1.com) , the track 'Pulse of the Maggots' will be up to download. And they shot the video for the first single, 'Duality,' on Saturday. But I'm so pumped to hear this album because they recorded with Rick Rubin, and because of this direct quote (especially the bolded part, because that will silence people who say they suck because *whiny voice*'they only play power chords and don't have any solos'*/whiny voice*) from this article (http://www.blistering.com/fastpage/fpengine.php/link/1/templateid/6567/tempidx/5/menuid/3):

"In that mansion Slipknot pushed the limits of the genre in all directions. Blending their aggression with depth, rage with melody, and doing so with unshaken confidence that exudes from song to song. “We’re just better writers,” says the percussionist, “we’re better players. We’ve all been doing this for a long time and we’ve had time to grow. We have some shredder guitar solos on this album, and Corey’s singing voice is awesome right now, so he brought a lot more melodic stuff. Sonically, we’re just a lot better.”

Fear Factory's new album; 'Archetype' is out tomorrow. I was slightly disappointed with Digimortal, it's still a clool album though. I'm not sure about buying their new one yet though, curse Amazon for not having any audio clips yet...

Lenny Kravitz's new album; 'Baptism' is out next month. His first single sounds alright, not bad, but pretty safe. Hopefully the album will have more risks and experimentation.

Beastie Boys first new album in 6 years is out the month after that, in June. Titled 'To The 5 Boroughs', should be interesting, and hopefully worth the wait.

Then the month after that, the album I've been looking foward to more than anything else, the new Prodigy album; 'Always Outnumbered, Never Outgunned'! This is the one album where I'd happy put down the money even if I'd never heard any of it, without any hesitation whatsoever, because I have 100% faith in it. What I don't have 100% faith in however, is the release date. Liam did say it's fucking coming out this time, no joke, but that was back in December, and we've heard nothing official since. And with only just over 3 months to go until the end of July, and no news even about a single to precede it, time is running out...

But still, these coming months could be very good for me musically...

That will not stand sir!
It's obvious that Liv Tyler had something to do with that so-so Armageddon song!
I'd also like to mention, they had another not-so-bad whiney ballad called Fly Away From Here, but 9/11 ruined that for them.  <IMG SRC="http://peel.gotfuturama.com/ubb/frown.gif">

Yeah, sad people still listen to them, like me!...

I've got all four of their albums from the Dave, Dave, Marty, Nick line-up. 'Rust in Peace' is a metal classic. 'Countdown to Extinction' and 'Youthanasia' are my faves, even if they do have crap production with no punch and way too much treble... (curse Metallica's black album!) 'Cryptic Writings' is a cloolsome album too, new sound. I hated 'Risk' though, and soon got rid of that peice of shit. Havn't really heard much of 'The Word Needs A Hero', but what I have heard sounds too rehashy of their glory days. Their VH1 DVD is well worth investing in though. As for the new album, I won't expect much, probabaly won't get it either, but I'll still be interested in what it's like, you never know...

I love the video to the Beastie Boys new single; 'Ch-Check It Out'. Reminds me a bit of the 'Sabotage' vid too. The song also rules, and nice hard beats...

I want the Gorillaz to have another album released in America. :le sigh: It seems like it'll never happen. Also I want Britney Spears to get off her ass and start making more GOOD music. Toxic impressed me and now I want her to continue. She isn't the perfect woman yet, no[that'd be Norah Jones, thanks], but for once she isn't a giant walking pussy.

I'm looking forward to a new Muse album, however that's gonna be in 2005 probably.

Also Sum 41's next album should be good.

2004 is gonna be a slow year for albums in my opinion because all of the good bands released an album last year.

Was there a thread just like this at the end of last year, with the same stuff posted in it and such (Alex mentioning U2, Otis prodigy, various girls swooning over mindless pop-metal bands, etc..) ?

I could have sworn I posted in such a thread. From memory it was about some singer-songwriters or something...

I'm still waiting for both Sarah Blasko's and Emma Ejwerz's debut albums. The new QOTSA album is apparently going ahead, and should be interesting, considering. Jack White should stop gallivanting around America with Loretta Lynn and get back in the studio. It's been over two years since they recorded Elephant (and over a year since it was released.) Tsk, tsk..

Still waiting for the new Grinspoon album, too.

Not that anyone cares, but Spock's Beard and The Flower Kings are in the studio recording stuff right now. Pain of Salvation are currently recording their album 'Be' which was performed on the tour last year (which I didn't get to see   <IMG SRC="http://peel.gotfuturama.com/ubb/frown.gif">). Yes are making a new album (with Rick Wakeman!!!), and Porcupine Tree have announced that they are starting to record some stuff now (which I'm mildly interested in).

Yep, it's going to be a good year for me.

IF IT WASN'T FOR AVRIL LAVIGNE'S 'PUNK' FANS, SLIPKNOT WOULD BE #1 ON THE BILLBOARD CHARTS. (http://www.blistering.com/fastpage/fpengine.php/link/1/templateid/7112/tempidx/1/menuid/1)

SLIPKNOT FANS STILL HAVE A DAY AND A HALF TO MAKE `EM #1!

EDIT: Wes Borland to begin work on solo album. (http://www.blistering.com/fastpage/fpengine.php/link/1/templateid/7107/tempidx/1/menuid/1)

He's the only person linked to Limp Bizkit that I still admire (Halle Berry doesn't count as one of those 'linked' people.)

The Hellacopters' latest, By the Grace of God, is being released in the US on the 13th, on Liquor and Poker records.  I already have this one, in fact I reviewed it in the Music Reviews thread, but everybody go out and buy it if you want people to think you're cool.

According to the band's website, this means they'll be touring the US "sooner rather than later."  I can't wait.

Fiona Apple's new album wont be released for a while yet, because sony said they dont know how to promote it, and there are no marketable singles..

trouble is a song named "Extrodinary Machine" was leaked. it's totally marketable, just not in the run of the mill alternative rock way. the song  is really cool and makes me impatient for these corprate snots to make up their mind.

Ah, major labels.  The first thing I'm gonna do when I'm emperor of the world is gather up all the corporate record (and tv) executives, sew their assholes closed, and feed them until they explode.

Fortunately for me, the albums I'm looking forward to are on two labels with probably 5-man staffs and a combined total of about ten signed acts.

Oh snap, I just got the joke.  "Liquor and poker."  Heh heh.  Why didn't I see it before?

I'm listening to the new Prodigy album right now, it leaked about an hour ago, I just got it before it got taken down! Sounding awesome and different, very different. Problem is it's not hard enough for my liking, I'm not very far into listening yet though, so that could change      ;)

And don't worry, of course I'm gonna buy this when it comes out!

edit - Well I've heard it all now, and I'm disappointed   :( It's awesome and all, but it just isn't hard! I can't believe "Girls" is the hardest track! Anyway, aside from that, this is totally different to anything I've ever heard before, I just need to get over what I thought it should be, and accept what it actually is. Once I've done that, and given it some time too, I'll review it   :)...

Now I actually have an album that I'm looking forward. That's right, it's The Life Aquatic Soundtrack. Probably will be released around November. I hear this time Wes Anderson got music from Radiohead and Sigur Ros into the movie, but that may just be temporary. And I know that this is not original music but whatever, it has Mark Mothersbaugh in it. It should be good.

Just read that Chevelle have a new album out around September time. Maybe most people hate them, but I love their last album, so I'm anticipating this...
Title: Re: What albums are you looking forward to...?
Post by: evan on 07-09-2004 23:47
Yes, Chevelle sucks.

I keep hearing rumors of a new Nine Inch Nails album that will come out this summer (finally), but the summer's halfway over and I've heard nothing new.  In April or May, Bleed Through (the title) had a release date in August, but shouldn't a single or something be out by now? Argh, get off your ass, Reznor!

Oh, and a new Sparta album should be out later this month. They're pretty decent.  Much better than Chevelle.
Title: Re: What albums are you looking forward to...?
Post by: Otis P Jivefunk on 07-10-2004 03:34
Just curious, why Chevelle "sucks"?... I only heard about them a few months ago, I've never seen them on TV or heard them on the radio. I found out about them searching through various bands on Amazon and listening to audio clips. I liked what I heard and bought it. I didn't even know what they looked like until the CD came. I was very surprised to see they almost look like a boy band! But the important thing is they don't sound how they look! Maybe they're hated because there's a lot of teenage angst, or because they're apparently "Christian" or something, or because they're bothers. I don't really care if they're not clool, and I don't really listen to lyrics that much, they're never the most important part to me, the music and structure are...
Title: Re: What albums are you looking forward to...?
Post by: SpacemanSpiff on 07-10-2004 08:37
As for Chevelle: Maybe the new album won't be as bad. After all, the producer previously worked with At the Drive-In...  ;)

As for Sparta: I'm not whether this album will be as good. I've read a few reviews, they were mixed. I was hoping they'ld go for a more experimental, electronic style, but apparently that didn't happen.
Oh well, I'll find out soon enough.
Title: Re: What albums are you looking forward to...?
Post by: evan on 07-10-2004 23:34
Aha, Otis, there you are.  See, I think it was last year, but Chevelle was everywhere in the United States.  We don't have "good" radio like Europe does, so our modern-rock stations only play the same two dozen songs constantly, and Chevelle's "The Red" became oversaturated.  They had some other songs, too, but to be honest, most nu-metal/nu-emo/nu-hardocre bands all sound alike to me anyway.

That's why they suck.  They're completely and utterly unoriginal and completely derivative.  I mean, Chevelle sounds exactly like Trapt which sounds like Hoobastank which sounds like so many other bands.  Rock me interestingly.
