I voted for Lennon, but I just recently realized what a great guitar player Harrison was. Lennon was the "interesting one," but Harrison was technically proficient.

i can't really vote for any of them. they were brilliant together, and that's the whole point.
and although most people assume that john was the real genius in the band, these were just images created by the media. lennon/mccartney really meant that these songs were created by both of them, so it'ld be really hard to pick anyway.

Richard Starkey, mainly because of his son, Zacc Starkey was/is latterly, drummer with The Who - whom I'd take over The Beatles anyday. Also, because Ringo narrated Thomas The Tank Engine, bless 'im.
Most grossly overrated band in history, and only became marginally good after they discovered drugs. Fact.

Then John Lennon for being a hippie lovebot and doing all the songs, minus points for marrying Yoko, cause she freaks me out.

"I Wanna Hold Your Hand" is symptomatic of everything I hate about The Beatles. Overtly over-innocent to the point of being patronising, for gods sake, it's written by 20-somethings and it's called "I wanna HOLD YOUR HAND"! Give me a break!
There are a few great Beatles Songs, namely "Tomorrow Never Knows", "Helter Skelter" and "Paperback Writer". Now them, I really like.

I think we'll have to agree to differ here.
However, I agree about the Pop-Idol thing, baring in mind that (with a few exceptions) they don't write their own material.
I maintain my point that The Beatles were much consistantly improved post-Revolver, ("Tomorrow Never Knows" being the last track on Revolver and being one of my favourites).

mellll, wouldnt you say that some of their songs (and content therein) was a product of the times in which they were made? (ie... holding hands seems babyish nowadays when people are singing about rape and stuff)

Maybe. Today, IWTHYH would be given to Aaron Carter and performers of his ilk.
Contemporaries and predecessors of The Beatles were writing much stronger material. Mississippi bluesman Willie Dixon wrote the classic "I Just Wanna Make Love To You", sung subsequently by Etta James and The Rolling Stones among others.
He also wrote "You Need Love", traces of which can be heard in the immortal "Whole Lotta Love" by Led Zeppelin.
The Stones, themselves, wrote "Satisfaction" in 1965. So, no, unless you were Little Eva ("My Boy Lollypop" ). Four 20-something Scouser Scally Blokes singing about "Hand Holding" is trite to say the least.
To re-iterate my point, I contend that there were just as important bands around at the time of The Beatles, and just because they were popular it doesn't mean they were great. I'd take The Stones, The Who, The Animals, The Yardbirds (bands who embraced Rhythm & Blues as a major influence) over the The Beatles any day of the week.
This is not to say that The Beatles didn't make good records. I'd say that the later into the sixties you got, the better the music got. Japanese conceptual artists notwithstanding.
One more further point: Of the bands stated above The Beatles were only marginally less influencial compared to say, The Yardbirds who set in motion a powerhouse of blues based rock which survives today. A succession of great guitarists and their subsequent projects have been legendary - Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page all played with The Yardbirds. After The Yardbirds split, The "New Yardbirds" line-up consisted of Page, Robert Plant, John Paul Jones and John Bonham (thereafter known as Led Zeppelin).
Also, look at The Animals (who's biggest single hit was a cover version, "House Of The Rising Sun" ). However, their biggest contribution came from bass-player Chas Chandler - who, after The Animals split, became a Manager and discovered Jimi Hendrix.

I voted John, but I am not a big Beatles fan. I like some of their later stuff.
Most of the reason I am not a Beatles fan is because I used to work as a waitress in a theme restaurant. Eight hours a day of 'Paperback Writer', 'Day Tripper', 'I Want to Hold Your Hand', and 'Help' was enough for me.

My old biology teacher would force every pupil who spelt beetle (as in the insect) incorrectly (as in the band) to stand up in front of the class and sing a Beatles song of his choosing...

I'm not sure who was the 'best' one. I prefer all of them together! I do like Paul McCartney's music though (with Wings), although I don't have any of that on CD.

Who the hell listens to the Beatles for their lyrics anyway? I don't care if the words don't make sense, or if they're just three hours of "na na na na na", or if they're childish songs about holding hands and having farty pants. The Beatles are still sexy. I mean, geez--just look at them!

Although this is a quote of a hit he had after the Beatles, it has to be John, who gets my vote. :)
He was a genius and died by far too soon.
I still think that Yoko Ono has planned his murder. She was the one why the Beatles splitt. If you look at John's musicvideos, you won't find one where she isn't in.
She had such a power over him and she lives from the profits his albums, art, books, etc. made and still make.
My favorite Beatles song is, well I can't decide, they're all great!
The Helter Skelter Version form "The Beatles" (white album) was really cool ("I got blisters on my fingers" ). :cool:
And I love the whole "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" album, best LP for me!
Beside Beatles I also love other music fom this time, especially Jimi Hendrix, Santana, The Who, Jefferson Airplane, and all the others from the great happenings in the US (Montery, Woodstock, etc.).
Joe Cockers version of the Beatles song "With a little help from my friends" is even better than the original.

She has indeed a strong personality and I think John searched for a guiding hand. She gave him new (her) ideas of a better world, and new things to reach. He gave her the opportunity to express them and show them to the world.

I don't say that she directly forced John to leave. It's more that she was bad for the group, same as Paul's Linda, the drugs they did (like nearly every band of this time) or the yourney to Rishikesh.
It's known that she was around in every recording session and also that she was the cause to many fights between John and Paul, allthough Paul wrote "Hey Jude" (in first line for Julian) or participated on "The ballad of John and Yoko".
In the end all Fab Four didn't get along well together, with Ringo's time off in 68 and Georges intention to quit in 69. The Beatles would have quit later anyway, but Yoko was one of many reasons why this was speeded up.
I like what she added to John's style later, some songs were even better than in his Beatles years, although most, if not every, song's intention was the same (Fighting for peace, freedom, human rights, or trying to resolve problems of his childhood).
I also have nothing against her in person, but it is obvious that she had a big influence on him, seeing that she is mentioned in every video, and that she even changed his videos and songs after his death. (Love blinds us all ;) )

I remember having a good night with the girls when we went to the Cavan. That is the place where The Beatles play. We saw some live band playing some Beatles songs and they were really good.

I am a *huge* Beatles fan, and used to be a total John-lover. Having recently realised that Paul actually wrote most of the songs that are my faves I am coming round to being a Paul-chick. The only problem with Paul is that he didn't die young, and continues performing. It's not like he needs the money. Over the years I have arranged for steelbands, or solo steeldrum:

Favorite Beatle has to be Lennon. I like his solo work a lot more than the other Beatles' solo works, which is the deciding factor, to me, in the decision.

Beatle-wise, I definitely think John was the best in the group, with George following close behind. He was never afraid to take things to the next level musically, and his songs still cut to the core.
While Paul on the other hand was quite frankly was and still is a greedy pussy.

What do you think about Frank Sinatra singing Beatles songs?
Since I'm a great Sinatra-fan (Sinatra! "Bluy Eyes"! "The Voice"!) I realy like them. Sure they're different to the original, changed to Sinatra's style, but still wonderful to enjoy.
I think it just shows another way to look at wonderful songs as "Yesterday" and "Something", completing them somehow ...
