June 17-19, NYC.
Be there or be somewhere else.
-
ow ill be away for my birthday.June 17 is okay for me.
-
link to previous PEELathon thread, the one with the actual information (http://www.peelified.com/cgi-bin/Futurama/12-002264-1/)

Don't worry about the invasion. Our SA80s jam in the desert and there aren't enough boots to go around. You'll be fine.
Continuing the discussion from Page 20 of the last thread, AGI is the designated European name, so you can't have a PEELathon in London. I think you should all come to Reading though. I can give you the tour. Festival 06 perhaps? ;)
-
Our SA80s just jam.
Not enough boots, kevlars, bullets, radios, DPMs... real reasons to go to war...but the best soldiers in the world I thank you!
What really gets me is that we're invading to show you how to do meets properly...and most of the things we were hoping to do are illegal for most of us suddenly. What kind of f**ked up country is the US?
:p
-
Regime change!
I vote gun range too.
-
Jersey City is a gun range.
-
In England, you shoot guns. In America, guns shoot you.
Yakov Smirnoff said it.
Also, I'm a step away from getting away scot free from work on that weekend. Woot x 10^23 (Avogadro's wootage)!
-
That's 10^-23. Yeah, that's very, very little woot.
-
We've been meeting up in NYC for 3+ years, I don't think we need any Brits to "show" us how.
We just need you to bring me candy. :p (and I think Kloudes wants to cuddle with Melll)
-
Is there anyone who wouldn't want to cuddle with Melll? I'm telling you: walking. teddybear.
-
Even I want to cuddle with Melll (Disclaimer: I don't really, but it made you either laugh or barf - either way I'm good).
I just confirmed the bad news that I won't be able to make it to NYC on that weekend. Among other obstacles, my daughter has her dance recital that Saturday. I'm NOT ALLOWED to miss that one.
Any Brits want to amend their plans to drop by Toronto on their way back actoss the pond?
-
VF: If by cuddle, you mean latch herself to his side and never let go, then yeah. :p
Pshh... Kloudes gets at least Mel, Tongue, Shauck, Pitt, and VF to cuddle with. Almost makes me want to go down to Orlando. But why does Florida have to suck so much?
-

Isn't it actually 10.02? I'm pulling from my chemistry class (1976) holy shit, I'm freakin' old.

Poor JBERGES! I think you have a nice personality.

Puh, I wouldn't want to cuddle with anyone else if you would just do it yourself. :p Well... maybe I'd still want to cuddle with Lee, but that's a different story... Go down to Florida if you want to! I understand that Venus is hotter, funnier and more intriguing than me...
VF, he does. That's why I put up with him (not sure why he puts up with me.)

Avogadro's number is ~ 6.02 x 10^23. The Doc is correct here, that's a lot of woot.
On topic, I've heard a rumor that Avogadro's corpse is going to make an appearance at Nasty's BBQ. Something about brains...
-
America, tie a yellow ribbon round your neck because Sammy's on his way! I know i've been vague about everything up till now, truth is I had no idea what would be going on in my life until it got closer to the time. But now i'm booked and it's all sorted.
Details
Outward: British Airways Flight 177 (Heathrow -> JFK) 13.40-16.05
Homeward: BA Flight 186 (Newark -> Heathrow) 08.15-20.05 (same as Melll)
I get in an hour before Melll, at a completely different airport. I'm gonna try to make the planned Melll/VF/Nix meeting outside Newark airport by a bus or Airtrain, unless anyone has any better ideas.
I'm sleeping in Melll's hotel room bathtub.
This is gonna kick ass so hard.
-
Avogadro's wootage is no longer adequate! Great to hear Sammy :D
-
I just picked up some fresh guitar strings, and after nearly twenty five years of putting it off, I picked up a tuner.
And some picks.
I'm ready to make noise.
-
Awesome!
Doug did you get my e-mail with directions?

I guess that corpse would be me. I absolutely KNEW it was 6.02... damn senility. That's it... I'm heading for the nursing facility now. Can anyone feed my cats for me while I recuperate?
Can I have a closer "head" count for the Friday BBQ so I can make sure I have enough to eat and drink. I'm thinking of maybe some beer/soda/lemonade/iced tea for drinking and of course the hamburgers/hot dogs and if Nasty Pasty is good... some buffalo wings.
-
@archie - yes I did! :) Sorry I didn't say :hmpf:
@mom:
If it's Friday, me and Archie definitely won't be there, unless it runs past 10pm or something...
/edit - again - a thought occurs. Do you think we'll be able to pick our seats on the plane? Or have we already technically booked our seats. I'll find it a bit annoying if we go to New York together and back but are seated at opposite ends of the plane...
-
Mom: I'll definitely be there.
-
Burn me two hot dogs, and leatherize me one hamburger.
I'm there.
-

Something tells me that it's gonna last...
-
Sammy, if I wasn't enthusiastic on the phone this afternoon, then excuse me while I cartwheel around the room. It's fantastic you're coming, and you may yet have a bed, unless I score, then you're back in the bathtub.
Nasty: That's something I thought of, basically, I'd pass Archie and Doug details of your souree and they could get a cab after they've checked in. I reckon we could keep it going until the small-hours. ;)
-
mom rules, I'll be there. Keep in mind that I eat enough for 3, though. :)
-
And I eat enough for three Crashes.
-
Awesome news Melll dude. Also: add me to the Yahoo group!
-
Shit. I was just gonna post to say I can't make it, but now there's no way I'm missing it. I'll just have to redouble my efforts.
-
Eggsy, your effort is appreciated.

EDIT (after reading further up this page):
Anyone can have a cuddle from me, I'm comfortable with my heterosexuality that Bergy can go on my list, although Kloudy gets in first. That's a given.
-
[ralph wiggims] Daddy, those people are hugging! [/ralph wiggims]
-
Do I get a hetro love hug too?
-
Sure.
Moving along, can Bergy post his who's coming/who's not list, so we can see who's left to pester?

This was Pitt's post:
Orignally posted by Pitt Clemens (on page 17 of the last thread):
I'm gonna make peelathon for sure, just tell me where to be, when to be there, and if all else fails, I'll ride a bus. Here I am in beautiful Conneticiut. But a train hop to NYC.
I'll pay a quick 50 to anyone who will let me crash in their room. You can write this off on your taxes.
Aside from Archie (and Joysauce) who both replied to this, any takers for rooming with UnderpantsMan?
Which leaves Jeff and Molly. Post already, even if it's to tell us to get stuffed. ;)
-
I totally forgot how my arrival time was calculated. Perhaps I was estimating what time I would arrive at the hotel. That being said, Northwest Airlines just sent me a little e-note saying my flight has been rescheduled to two hours later (wheels down at Newark allegedly at 3:30PM). Therefore, if the same formula applies, my new "arrival" time will be 5PM. I don't think this will cause any major problems, but if someone can double-check, that'd be great.
Edit: Also, my room is always open to paying customers friends.
Edit: Also also, I was reading about "Monty Python's Spamalot" in the paper today. I thought about how cool it would be if we went to see it, but then I figured such a feat among PEELers would probably result in catastrophic nerdsplosion.
-
Errrrgh.
OK, if I don't make it to this deal, what are the chances that the Beerdie Weerdies will play next year? When you answer this question, please think only of yourself. Don't tell me what you think I want to hear. I need to carefully calculate the gains and losses.

wait, wait... your flight gets in to Newark at 3:30? or 5?
Mom: I will be at your BBQ, as long as someone can drive me. I don't eat anything, and I just got put on antibiotics, so I won't be drinking any alcohol either.
DrT: I would totally go, but isn't it all kinds of sold out and hundreds of dollars?
-
Basically. You'll have a job getting tickets, especially after its recent award...
Any solid plans for what we're doing in the city on Saturday? El Controller de My Life (I'm...so....multilingual...) requires an itinerary. Obviously, there's no way we'll stick to it, but even I'd like to know if we're doing anything for sure.
-
tell your mommy we'll be in the city all day. I'm sure we'll take the PATH into the WTC, maybe walk down to look at the Statue of Liberty (and I guess we can pass Wall Street on the way, thus killing two lame landmarks with one walk). I assume we will go to Times Square at some point... Can you just say that?
-

You know... the family "Nasty" has an annual BBQ. If all goes well and you're all good little boys and girls, I'll just add y'all to my annual list. Therefore, maybe be a yearly gig for the "Beerded Weirdies".
-
Count me in for any Weerd Beerd action.
-
Hmmmm... I want to hear from Melllvar.
-
For those of you who know what Carmine's is (I'm looking at you, Skusting and eggs), how would you feel about making rezzies for dinner there? It could give us PEELers a communal feeling. Unless anyone's up for sushi. I'm good for that, since I didn't get to participate last time :p I only ask about dinner because a group our size should probably make reservations a couple days in advance.
-
Sushi was fun. What's a Carmine's?
-
Carmine's? $9 for a side order of brocolli. A side order of spinach for $10. Or $20 for a plate of ravioli. I don't think so.
$6.50 for garlic bread?
It could give us PEELers bankruptcy feelings.
Carmine's menu (http://www.carminesnyc.com/menu.htm)
-
Hey, nothing beats the buffalo wings at ESPN in Times Square. Or the "world famous" Tick-Tock Diner on the corner of 8th Avenue and 34th Street. Unfortunately, I will not be in NYC for the event. I have a video job that evening, but have one for me. None of that "near beer", I want a good Amber brew.

:laff: That would be because each order serves about 4 people. It's one of those restaurants where you go with ten people, pick three dishes, and you share everything. It works out to be a pretty decent price per person.
"The food at Carmine's is served family style-- generous portions are made for sharing. "
That's the "communal" part I was referring to. Plus, the food's pretty good.
Even if we don't go there, I still think it would be a good idea to make reservations somewhere if we plan on eating together. After all, it's a Saturday night and there will be at least 15 of us.
-
^ I'm up for that, if we all pitch in, we could share a decent sized nosh-up.

You know what, I'd love to. This trip - if you remember - is free for me, there's no reason I cannot make it a yearly thing.
Would be cool to globe-trot to see a few friends. We'll discuss it on the day, see how we feel.
-
Ayight. 'Cause it's looking like I'm not gonna make it. I'll be stuck in California, 3000 miles away. And it tears me up inside.
-
That is a tragedy.
Can we get Nasty's bass player (save for the miraculous appearance of DaveMason), and we'll put Eggsy down for the spot next year?
-
You guys have to promise me it'll kick a lot of ass next year.
And someone call me from the bbq. I want to be a part of it.
Poop.
-

No luck, my band is currently bass-less.
And unfortunetly my Dad's band has their gig at the Meadowland's bar, so he can't play...
-
Hmm, what to do....
I'll willingly sit out, or percuss on something, jam or whatever, then we'll do the full-band thing at the next one.
All this is academic if we actually get a bass player to come.
That said, Eggsy, don't feel bad.
-
Well, a bass player isn't a neccesity, I mean we can still play. It obviously won't sound as good, but we can still have fun.
And about the Drumz, I'm going to ask my drummer if I could steal his set for you to use on Friday.
-
Cool. Coz I can't bring mine. :p
-
wait wait wait... family style expensive italian place? Eggs, anyone, doesn't that sound familiar?
:shudder:
-
Yeah, we're... not allowed in Italian restaurants anymore. VF will get kneecapped.
-
Hm, I just read that menu. Those prices are normal for a moderately priced cafe with good food here.
You guys must get things cheap.

Definitely not. Any activities involving the handling or consumption of fish (raw or otherwise) will see me run a mile.
-
Howabout ESPN Zone in Times Square?
Any place with TVs in the Bathroom stalls and urinals can't be bad. Good buffalo wings too...
-
This is why I need eggs around. :( He'll consume tons of raw fish with me. Next year, I suppose.

So where does the 5 pm come in? Cause if you really are coming into Newark Airport at 3:30, I can probably jam you into my tiny car full of large men. eh? eh?
You think Melll, Sammy, Nix, me and you can all fit in a 3 door VW golf?
edit: or you can hook up with tongue! yes, excellent.
-
Hmm... I posted but then it wasn't there.
Anyway... ESPN Zone is good, but massively, ridiculously expensive for the food they serve. $12 for chicken fingers isn't really worth it. You pay for the atmosphere.
EDIT: OK, so my post magically appeared. Bah. Sorry about that...
-
street hot dogs for everyone!
I think too much planning kills the spirit of peelathon, which is - at it's essence- wandering around starving for hours.
-
Count me in at 4:45 hotel time for next Friday. Bergey, you are picking me up at the PATH station for Mom and Nasty's BBQ, right?
Bergey, if Kloudes goes off and cuddles with everyone under the sun, I'll stick with you and cuddle. Because you need love too.
We are SOO going to Carmines. The only problem is that for a big party, we'll probably need to cal ahead. Or wait awhile. Spend $10 a person and we'll have enough for all weekend.
-
I love that I've gained the reputation of a cuddle slut.
I agree that it's fun to bum around New York with no real aim in mind, but I also think it would be nice if we could all eat together, and we have a larger group than last time. *shrug* Iunno, I could be wrong.

Australian dollars are Monopoly money.
Edit: VF, don't worry about Doc Thunder. The shape that plane is in, he won't survuve the landing. Problem solved.
Kloudes, I will eat the hell out of some sushi. Next year. Even though I never eat at these things, for some reason.
-

Hey, I'm a survuver. You know that Gloria Gaynor song "I Will Survuve"? That was written about me...three years before I was born...and also had nothing to do with me.

I still like the sound of italian, I reckon it's a goer, and we should definately do it. I'm all for doing things as a group, I've always hated it when the AGI group got split up.
Also, I'd rather eat my own earwax than eat sushi.

I'll be at Newark at 4:00 to get TL, so I could show up a little earlier and find you as well, Doc. Pick whichever carload you want to be a part of.
Shaucker, assuming I don't hit traffic, and manage to find Tongue rather promptly, 4:45 should be no problem. Though I do have to check into the hotel at some point around then...
Carmine's works for me, anything but sushi, really.
-
If you put enough wasabe on it, even sushi isn't bad. That being said, I'd prefer Italian.
-

Congratulations, you win one and a half canned points (the points in a can.) I spotted that typo before I hit the "submit" button, but I kept it in because I think "survuve" is a cool word and I wanted to see if anyone would notice.
Plus that was funny.
-
Shaucker, assuming I don't hit traffic, and manage to find Tongue rather promptly...
Man, that name's the joke that never ends.

Don't do that; it'll make you homesick for British food.
Fuck, I forgot I was going to miss meeting Tongue Luck too. You have to come next year, too, TL. So does Sammy, by the way.
-
Italian place, honestly, sounds fine with me. I like Italian food and am rich as hell.
Picking up Dr. T sounds find with me as well. Can he email me his flight info? I assume Melll is going to be responsible for Sammy's flight info, but can I get that emailed to me as well?
I REALLY do not want to have to drive to the PASTYQ. Because I will be sleeping before it is time to leave and might as well drive drunk than tired. Can we get an updated list of those willing/able to drive and how many. Also what time will these people be swinging by the hotel?
-
I won't be able to pick anybody up to take them to the BBQ, but I'll be able to give a ride for two or three back to the hotel afterwards.
-
Here's Sammy's flight details:

He'll be making his own way from JFK to Newark, and should arrive around the time I land. I'll call him when I land anyway, and see where he's at.
I know, it's an arrangement which is primed and ready to completely blow up in our faces. As it relies on flights being on-time, negotiating traffic, and suchlike.
Regarding getting to the NastyQ, if we're short on willing driver-types, then I'll willingly catch a cab. In fact, if a few people wanna tag along, then it'll make the ride cheaper.
-
I suppose I could drive a couple people from the hotel to the BBQ. I'll be getting to the hotel pretty early (3-ish, I think). And I could use a navigator or two. Also, was someone collecting cellphone numbers of attendees just in case they're needed?
-
My cell number is in the Yahoo group.
Here's a question, how much money will I need?
-
Well, your British Pound goes further in America. Unfortunately New York is overpriced, so it'll probably come out even.
-
Erm, mom rules, if you're still working on that BBQ headcount, assume I'll be there. And I eat enough for 1/27 of a Melllvar.
Also, sushi rocks. Y'all have stupid taste buds. So there!
-
I usually bring about $100, but I don't eat very much and I don't usually buy stuff.
So it looks like no one is going to drive anyone to the BBQ? I hope something good is on TV at the hotel...
-

$100?
Melll, having never been to New York, I think you should take as much money as your wallet will hold. Or, alternatively, a roll of flashy cash.
Australian dollars are Monopoly money.
Your country is poisoned by George Bush.

You and me, Tongue... we'll go and find some sushi. It'll rock.
And mom_rules, I will also be there. I don't know how many Melllvar's I eat
...er... wait. I'm so confused by this unit of measurement.
-
Melll, I'd be careful if I were you... this whole affair seems to be a carefully laid trap wherein you are smothered to death with hugs, and then eaten.
-
But isn't that the way we all want to go? Hugged to death by attractive women and then have them eat your dead body?
No? Just me then? Oh, well...
-

I don't care. Our money rocks. It's green, and if you fold a dollar bill right, it says "tits of America" on the back.
-

I can take 4... maybe 5 people depending on how close you're all willing to get. Very close, I assume.
-
Oooh...close. That's awesome. And to be the one in the middle, I eat both Italian and sushi: Except I am poor, so not often.
Okay, so I'm set. I take the PATH from Penn Station, am picked up at 4:45 by Bergey. Party ensues.

My phone is also not tri-band, so I'm going to be without any means of mobile contact thingy.
I may bring slightly more than 100$ - 100$ was no where near enough for St Petersburg - although I don't see any reason to be buying Ushankas from New York.
-
You never need a reason to buy a Ushanka.
-
I'm not suggesting anyone bring $100, I'd bring a lot more if I was coming from another country and probably going to buy some crap and eat more than not much.
I'm probably going to buy a pair of sneakers this time and that will be $50-100 right there, but I will use my credit/debit card. You can easily spend $10-$20 on a meal if we eat in that diner near the hotel, or in a decent place. Slice of pizza and a soda is like $5 though and a light breakfast is free from the hotel (woo!), fyi.
BERGY: what time you come to hotel? you still have my celly phone number? Do you still have the same # as last year? I have it in my phone.
once we all trickle into hotel area how are we going to meet up, eps since we won't know our room number until we get there and half of us have no cell phone?
-
I suggest paging each of you from reception.
Someone has to sign in as I C Weiner.
-
Ha, that'd be needlessly amusing.
I actually have a cell phone now, whoo, but that doesn't make too much of a difference since I'll be coming with Bergie. Still, I can give it to y'all... er... not in this thread :)
And I agree as far as money... I won't be spending too much (unless we go to Pearl River again :p) but if it were the reverse and I were going to the UK, you can bet your ass I'd spend frivolously.
-
Assuming I go straight to Newark to pick up Tongue, I'll get to the hotel at about 4:30 to check in. As I said, we'll need someone over 21 on hand just in case.
If I hit some traffic, I may not be able to grab Shaucker at Journal Square on time, however. Someone could easily meet her there on foot if that happens though, right? What time are we all heading to the NastyQ anyway?
If your cell is the same as last time, I have it. My number hasn't changed.
-
Will my phone work in your country? It's some POS pay-as-you-go nokia on vodafone, thingy.
+447748097149 if anyone wants to save
I'm taking $280. I expected more dough for my Ģ160 but unfortunately for us your dollar is strengthening, down from $1.95 to Ģ1 to $1.74 to Ģ1.
So, me and Doug are getting a cab then? Is there a last check in at the hotel too. I don't wanna turn up for a BBQ at 10, get to the hotel at 3 and be locked out. I know New Yolk is a 24/7 city, but so's London and it's happened to me before.
And I want a TV to watch the Grand prix damnit. With all three of us F1 geeks out of the country you know it's gonna be awesome.
-
Check in first, dump your bags and get a cab from the hotel. Then you'll know you won't be locked out. It means you'll get to the NastyQ around 11, but it'll just be getting warmed up.
PEELathonners take note: Melbee's parties went on until 5am (sometimes later). ;)
-
There's TVs in the hotel room. The first PEELathon, I spent the entire orgy watching the national league playoff game. And the GP isn't gonna have anyone named Farnsworth in it.
My phone number is on Melllvar's board. Somebody has to call me from the bbq. For real.
-
MomRules: permission to use your phone, for the call to Eggsy.
-
I'm sure there'll be an American there with a Verizon cell phone. That'll be more free than using a land line to call California from New Jersey.
-

Hooray!!!! I'm invisible! :) As I said earlier, I'm driving a midsize rental car from the hotel to the BBQ. I could comfortable accomodate 3 passengers, uncomfortably up to 4 passengers or up to 15 clowns.

I want a phone call too. This is like the third peelathon i've had to miss. Here's hoping for next year!

permission granted. I have a verizon cell phone.... Eggs??? "Are you In?" just recalling the ad. No problem-o.
I would offer to do a hotel run, but it is Bender_Waffles graduation dance evening and I cannot leave when she is on her way there. I have to do the mom thing, you know, embarass her, take pictures, etc.

So where are yis gonna find a bass player? Eight or nine years ago I could have supplied a dozen in the area, but now I don't know anyone in New Jersey anymore.

For Sammy's benefit, here's the JFK website. Scour it for detail about how to get from there to Newark. If not, hail a cab. :p
Mom, thanks. Also, a call to Venus would be cool, if that's okay. Don't worry about a hotel run. If we need to catch a cab, that's what we'll do. As long we know where we're going, then that's cool.
Post your details in the Yahoo Group.

What airport are you into? (sorry, I forgot) The hotel seriously does have a free shuttle from Newark airport. The schedule is on the hotel website, I think.
I called the hotel to ask about "late" check in for you. They said it doesn't matter what time you check in, as long as you check out at 12 noon! heh
If anyone wants to either leave their phone number on the yahoo group, or email it to me, I promise I will put it in my phone for emergencies/"sorry you can't make it" phone calls. It would have been nice to have Pitt's number last time when his plane was delayed and he was basically missing in the airport for a while...
I still have JBERGES' and N. Pasty's, can these be confirmed?
Mom, you still going to be driving a BBQ shuttle?
-
Looking at the JFK Website, the taxi fares to Newark is $78, screw that.
Catch a bus.
EDIT:

I can take 4... maybe 5 people depending on how close you're all willing to get. Very close, I assume.
So, what? Deodorant?

I thought we were discussing the transportation to the Pasty/Waffles/Mom house. We know there is a free shuttle between the airport and the hotel. I have recently confirmed its existence. It leaves from station P4:
- Every half hour between 0530 and 0930
- Every hour on the half-hour between 0930 and 1730
- Every half hour between 1730 and 2130
- Every hour between 2130 and 0530.
I should mention that station P4 is a parking garage bus station at Newark.
If I arrive too far ahead of any of the other fly-ins (is Mell the next earliest or is it TL?), I might just hop on a shuttle and check in at the hotel straight away...unless of course someone wants to hang out in the concourse for a few hours. We could have a vanilla milkshake and talk with funny accents and pretend they won't let us into America. I mean, I intend on doing most of that anyway.

map of newark airport. British Airways is in terminal B. That big yellow rectangle to the right of terminal C is the main short term parking deck (aka, where I will have to park to pick you guys up.) I will be in or near terminal B at 5:30 pm. Mellll will be in charge of texting me if there is a delay, or otherwise when he lands.
DrT: I am stupid as hell. You taking the shuttle sounds good. Sorry. I thought 7-2=3. I emailed you. Call me when you get in, either way.
I think I'm going to be in NYC early with Nix, but we will be back asap to check into the hotel and pick up melllll.
-
Newark people: You can get from the terminals to station P4, where the bus is, via the free monorail. Which is only free if you don't take it to the train station and get on a train.
It's called the Airtrain, and you get on it by following the signs posted all over the airport with an alarming drawing of a plane crashing into some railroad tracks.

Crap, I just emailed you back before I saw that post. I'm still not sure what 7-2=3 means though.
Given the 16 minute estimate given by GoogleMaps for a Newark to Jersey City jaunt, I give myself a fairly good chance of arriving at the hotel between 4:45 and 5:00 (I don't remember what I told you, VF). Of course I don't know how bad rush hour traffic is when travelling away from Newark, but if it takes longer than 30 minutes to go 10 miles, I'm screwed no matter what conveyance I use.

I don't need anyone to call me, but it would be nice if someone would burn my screen name into Nasty's lawn with gasoline. C'mon, show me you care.
-
We'll give it a try, but I reckon we wouldn't get invited back next year.
Now, to Saturday. Can we book a table at Carmines? I think the consensus is to do that, and it'd be nice to be assured of a place to eat.
As for the day, I'm easy, I don't mind what we do or where we go. Some of the famous places, of course.
-
7-2=3 is math. seven minus 2 equals 3, which is the "math" I was using to think (wrongly) that melll got in at 3:20... wait, this probably doesn't make any more sense. check your email, no need to make everyone's brain explode.
-
I'll give Carmine's a call today, but I don't think we can make reservations until the day of. I'll call to find out, and if by some chance I can, how many should I put us down for? I have a rough estimate of about 16, but I'd like someone else's opinion on this.
-

I'm working on it right now. No promises.
I just asked a friend via e-mail if he can do it and I'm waiting for a response. I also sent him the link to Melll's
Yahoo group for more info - So Melll - Keep an eye out for him.

What's appropriate attire there? I wasn't planning on packing anything remotely dressy. Heck, I wasn't planning on bringing long pants. :)
-
It's a 'family' restaurant, no dress code that I know of. I've worn jeans and a t-shirt there.
In related news, I called and didn't get through. I grew weary of waiting for 'someone to handle my call' so I'll try again later.
-
If'n you want, I'll put in a call later tonight when I get home. How many people are we booking?

Dont worry I can play but I wont be bringing my band with me so I hope you guys know how to rock and roll! "p Also I wont have any instrements with me. Nasty Pastey do you have a bass that I can borrow just for the night? I am very careful with musical instrements because I know how priceless they can be.

@ Shacker: Fine by me. I was thinking somewhere around 16 or 17, but it could be give or take one.

There you go, Nasty, that's good news for you. 'Cause I was gonna break it.
Melll, unrestricted-ing the Yahoo board means buttloads of people have access to our phone numbers.

Sorry DaveMason, but there is no fucking way I would let you near a bass guitar of mine.

Does that mean you have a bass and/or bass amp?
If my friend pulls through, He will probably bring his own bass, but will need an amp.
I don't want to say who he is just yet, but his brother is very well known.
Any other guitar players gonna be present? Because if worse comes to worst, I can handle a bass in a tight spot.

If you want to wait in the lobby for fifteen to thirty minutes, I should arrive via shuttle in time to be your "chaperone."
-
Or we COULD just take you back in Bergie's car since we're going to be at the freakin' airport anyway. :p But that'd be great if you could be our 'chaperone', yes.

No fuckin' way! Cap'n, I figgered out your hint, and if Melllvar and Nasty get to play with this little freak, I get to too. You gotta bring him next year.

Your country is poisoned by Stever Irwin.
No, your country is poisoned with Steve Irwin. He's not on the TV over here because we hate him.

I have not yet confirmed. I will chat IM-wise with Either Nix or TMC to map out my travel plan, then I have to buy train tickets and study the maps that will guide me to the hotel. By wednsday I should have everything 'all up in check.'

Well, I won't know until Monday if he can even make it or not. In the meantime, him and I are cooking up plans for our own band reunion upstate come Thanksgiving or there abouts.
I think I can forgive you for not making this momentous occaision. This whole deal may fully bring me out of retirement. It's gonna be a real blast jamming with Melll and Nasty with or without a bass player.
Whyn'tcha just sedate your boss for the next week and play job hookie.
-
Man, I'm so close to doing just that.
-
Shit, dude. Just do it, you could say it's a family emergency or something.
Yeah, to be honest, I'm really (at least) looking forward to the jamming aspect of the band-thing. It's gonna be a blast no matter what.
-
So, I'm bringing cowbell then?
-
Of course. Cowbells. Jugs. Washboards. Kazoos. Clamshells. Bender's head. All manner of noise making should be encouraged.

HEADS UP
- I've just found out that if me (and by extension) Archie arrive in Ramada and try and make good of the rooms we actually booked, then we'll be turned away. Because below 21 is not old enough and it applies to Brits it seems as well. Right, so, as it stands, we are both FUCKED.
Sammy, I'm sorry to ask this - but how old are you? If you're 21, you can have my room (I'm hopeing) and we'll have to share and Archie will have to share with Melll or vise versa - as it stands, we'll only be able to go if we share with an "adult". Any other offers?
Sorry to inflict this on everyone.
I'm not sure about the problems that the fact that me and Damien arrive about 4 hours after everyone else...
Supposedly, expedia "don't know" how we managed to book a room...
-
Get a fake I.D, I mean, this is America...
-
Oh whoopdedoo. Sammy is 20 aswell I believe.
EDIT: I called the hotel. They don't seem to give a shit. If not, I'm accosting some 21 year old bum off the street. Or indeed attempting the Calvin and Hobbes trick. :D

Haven't JBERGES and I been saying this since the beginning? You can book a room no matter how old you are, but you cannot sign in. You guys can stay in the room alone as long as you can get someone over 21 to pretend they're staying with you. Which is why I'm looking sweetly in the direction of TMC, Fishy, Dr. T... basically anyone over 21 who didn't book a room themselves.
-
Yay! Everything resolved :)
Cheers Damien, that's one less crisis gone before I go :D
As it turns out the age limit only applies to local persons under 21 - in fact they said just the kids round the corner - 19-20 year old Englishmen are not a problem :)
Hehe, I'm happy again! :D
-
So... if we claim to be English or from out of state... we don't need an escort? That makes no sense whatsoever. If that's actually true I am hereby outraged.
-
Capn, yeah I got a big cabinet that could be used as a Bass amp. And I got my Dad's bass if your guy can't bring his...

Okay here's the deal. Should I try to get to Nixorbo's house on the 17th? What time would we be leaving to NY? I'm not good at driving in the city so the only way I would be able to go this year is to meet up there and then squish in VFs car again mebbe. I saved up a lot of money and I really want to go. =(
-
Either that, or make your way at any cost to the Mom'sNastyBender. Good to have you aboard!
-
So, Cap'n, if you're coming out of retirement, does that mean you'll jam with me if I come back later in the summer? It'll be good practice for next year.

I think what Zed means is that they don't want to cater to neighborhood kids just looking for a place to party. Maybe you could have your mom write them a note.
-
Yeah, that's it basically (I think) - try giving them a call, see what they say :)
/edit - just to clarify, I appreciate that it was what you were saying from the beginning, we were just following that up (late)

When are you coming? A friend of mine misunderstood the concept of the Beerdies, and wanted to book us at the Pusycat Lounge in Manahattan on the Tuesday of our choice in July. If you're in town for any of his own gigs there, we can definately jam with him.
-
No one at that hotel has ever asked my age, or for verification of said age. I look about 12 years old, too, so I'm sure the rest of you guys will be fine. They seriously do not care, as long as you can pay them and don't trash the place.
Jesse, if you are going to Nix's house, you might want to talk to him or his parents about that. I'm staying out of it, since he's apparently unable to comment directly to you.
-
Considering that you've ALREADY paid them for the room, they'd be hard pressed to turn you away anyway. Besides they'd be too entranced by your English accent to even care how old you are.
Just pick the most attractive receptionist, and turn on the charm. :flirt:

Well, there's a solution. Berges can do the phony accent, Kloudes can be all cute, and I can bring one of those little plastic bubble juice containers to blow in their faces if they still need some extra confusing. It's foolproof!

Fine... I get the point...
How am I going to get to the questionable Jersey City hotel of legend...
I wish I could sprout wings and fly.
I made myself sad.
I wouldn't mind being a third wheel in the museum though. I could get lost and put my cell on vibrate and draw for hours... and you two could call me when you're done doing whatever you plan on doing...

Jess: check your email, assuming the address in your profile is the one you use.

I'm probably going to be at work - email.

Ok People: GOOD NEWS
I covninced my mother to drive me to new york without my bro. Now we have car space for me to bring my bass. I have write three songs that we can play unless you would like me to just wing it. Some times I find the best music/songs come when I just jam. PS Do you know how big of a crowd we are playing in front of.
-
Dave, meeting you would be like meeting God's hairdresser. You know, not actually the greatest thing ever, but close enough to have smelled it.
-
On crowd size:
It won't be Woodstock. Or even Bend Aid.
I'd expect a relatively normal BBQ sized crowd.
-
Wait, DaveMason is seriously coming?
Finally, the mystery will be revealed!!! Who is Dave Mason?!?!!?
-
I'm hoping TheLampIncident's schizophrenic alterego. It'd be fun.
-
Not only that, you guys get to meet DaveMason's mom. I hear from the biker mags that she's a real classy lady.
Now I'm even more jealous of all of you.
-
hmm after a while of Hotmail being a jerk and not letting me see the email I can finally see it. Its a little scarey... considering I've never been anywhere more than four turns away from my house... maybe I'll have my mom drive me.
How long is this trip? it takes me about 30 minutes to get on the Turnpike from my house to start with.
So if my mom and I leave around 11:30 or 12 when should we arrive?
Uh.. and Yahoo Maps wants me to get there another way...
14. Take exit #57A-B onto US-130 NORTH - go 1.2 mi
15. Turn on FARNSWORTH AVE - go 0.3 mi
16. Bear on US-206 SOUTH - go 5.9 mi
..just thought that was funny.

I need to know how much food and drinks to buy.

Mellll, you're the only thing keeping me going at this point.
Mom: I already confirmed the last time you asked, but since I'm still not sure how I'll get there, I guess I'm a maybe.

@Jess: well, the point's moot, since I need to leave around 10 or 11, because I need to get into the city early, and it's a 2-hour trip to the city, and then we need to be out of the city by 4:30-5 to pick up peoples.
Also, Yahoo maps directions suck.

I'm definitely in for the BBQ. Speaking of which, what time should we get there? I'll need directions from the hotel, too.
-
I'd say between 15-25 people. We got what, 3 brits, me, Thunder, Pitt, Nix, VF, Jesse, Kloudes, Capn, and a half-dozen to a dozen or so extras like wooter?

Wait a minute, I thought we (minus the limey-come-latelies) were convening at the hotel first and then caravaning up to Mom's place.

hey Kloudes or other people who know stuff about NYC... If I wanted to buy some kickass sneakers on Friday before we meet up with the rest of you guys, what would be a good store in the city to go to? Thanks in advance!

Yeah. I needed directions because I'm going to be one of the people with a car. We'll probably all leave at once to make sure nobody's left behind, but I don't know if we're actually caravanning. I think it would be a very good idea if every driver knew how to get there. Caravans have a way of disintegrating in city traffic.

So, I don't get it; your mom is driving you to Paramus from Georgia? Isn't Georgia in the Caucasus? Do you even speak English? How will you communicate with the other PEELathoners?
-
Well, it looks like I'll be flying solo come Friday nite.
My bass player can't make it, and my wife is going to see the Tramps with a bunch of her old disco cronies.
-
Awww, no Poison Ivy? Now I'm not as jealous.

Try the Foot Locker on 34th Street between 6th and 7th Ave.
Across the street from Macy's.
They have an entrance on 33rd Street as well.
Only half a block from Penn Station.

I've looked up the weather, from several sources, and they all concur that at least one day in the weekend it's gonna piss it down with rain - they just didn't agree with which day. Anyone local know anything more?
-
You can still buy the classic NYC street brolly for three bucks.
If it rains.

think positive... it won't rain on Peelathon!
-
30% chance for 4 days?
THAT'S 120%! We're doomed!
Doomed! Doomed! Doomed!
-
Bah, since I will not be riding my motorcycle there, it probably will not rain. The clouds will part and bless the earth with sunshine, making me wish I could ride.
Tomorrow at this time I'll be saying that tomorrow at this time I'll be somewhere in New Jersey...probably hopelessly lost.
-
Rain, you say?
Bah, who cares! It could snow and it's still gonna be a blast.
This time tomorrow, I'll be en-route to Heathrow Airport.
Excited? Me? You bet your sweet bippy I am.
-
I lost my sweet bippy in a poker game last week.
I too am duly excited. That's not to say I'm not putting off doing my laundry until tomorrow, because I am.
-
Now...
Anything remotely useful from the Yahoo group, can someone print out for us? So we have hard copies of peoples details (specifically Mom's and Venus' details).
I'll be kinda around (this forum) until 4pm, then I've got 1 shopping trip to make, then I'm off home to get packed and go to bed. If there's any reason for anyone to get in touch, don't hesitate, call.
-
I hope you all have a really good time.

Will do. Afterall, that's what the work printer is for! :D
I'm at the bouncing-up-and-down-in-my-chair stage of excited. So close (yet so far... 9 hours of work to get through first.)

Yes, yes, that is our plan. How do you think people in NJ eat? Garden State, my ass. We wait for lost tourist and then we eat them. Yummy! Except the "Aussies" are kinda "gamey", the Germans are a bit tough, but those Brits... yes indeed, tender meat.

How 'bout a pickeled bippy??? I can probably locate one of those.

Panixcitment!

I must admit, I'm quite stoked. I'll probably have a hard time sleeping tonight. Been spending the last couple of days confirming reservations and printing out maps.
-
Lookin' forward to it...
I'm trying to memorize the vocals and chords to all the songs.

God dammit.
I'm stuck here, writing a frickin' paper.

So, safe trips everyone. Hope for good weather, and keep in mind a trip from Jersey City to Paramus on a Friday evening could take an hour. Be prepared for it.
EDIT: Also, for the good of the people that I'm driving, I'll be leaving my broken-air-conditioning-car at home and taking Kloudes's instead. Could you put some more Hello Kitty stickers on it? I wanna be the coolest kid in town.
-
I don't know if it's ever been stated. What time are we leaving the hotel for the BBQ?
-
Have fun you people. Don't do anything I wouldn't do unless I would do it, in which case, don't do it unless I wouldn't.
Or something.

I'll be here from 4:00 on so whenever everyone gets here, they get here. I don't know what time the "convoy" is departing the Ramada
-
No one get mugged!
Except you, DaveMason. You can get mugged.
-
Enjoy all you AGIers going over there, safe trip and have fun!
-
How do they muster up the moneys... ?
::is envious::
Have a nice trip, everyone. Some of whom I would have been pleased to shake hands with.
-
Look, I'll stay in whatever room, seriously, Nix is full apparently, but I might even be bringing a sleeping bag on this one if anyone wants to speak up with a "Crash in my room." I'll talk to you when I arrive at the hotel, around 4:00.
Holla back at a Crigga!
-
Meh, I guess my room is open for anyone...
-
Spoken like a true socialist, still, I was hoping to hotel it with my houghtonist this year, lord willing. The offer is noted, and possible, though, Nasty. Thanks.
-
What's a crigga? Is that like a yinzer? An'at?
-
Pitt: Just to let you know, the room is only a single, so if you do end up bunking with me, bring that sleeping bag you spoke of, cause even though I'm a socialist, I sure as hell ain't sharing a bed with you. :p
-
Nasty, aren't you only staying on Saturday night?

I'll have you know, Dave Mason is our designated mungee.
-
Why don't we say that we'll depart for Mom'sNastyBender beteen 6 and 7. That allows time for any delayed travelers to get to the hotel, and allows Mom and the kids more time to prep for our arrivals. And I suggest as far as our all meeting up and finding out who's where, new arrivals be in the lobby at 3, 4, 5, 6 whichever hour you arrive at. One of us can meet you, take down what room you're in, and tell you where the Peely goodness is taking place. It'd be pretty shitty if someone arrives and nobody recognizes them/they don't see anyone, so they miss the PastyQ.
-
How about between 6-6:30, seeing as assuming no delays (:rolleyes :) two of our Yurpeans won't be getting into the airport until around 5:30?
-
Yes, well shut up. Just because you know what's happening and when doesn't mean you should have any say in what happens when!
Okay folks, depature for the BBQ has been reset to 6:30.
-
At about 5PM tomorrow I'll be in Jersey City. That's a good thing, right?
Adieu until then.
-
Well I'm off. See you on the other side of the pond!
No-one wants to share a bed with me
-
Have fun, lads and lasses. Try not to corrupt the yanks with your hedonistic ways too much, you sinister Euro's. Except for Bergey. You need to chill that fella out.

You're welcome to crash in my room, but since I'll be visiting Pittsburgh this weekend instead of attending the Peelathon that probably doesn't help you.
-
I'm at Heathrow Airport, Sammy's here, and so is the Scottish Womens Lacrosse Team. I'm too damn early for check in, so I'm milling about for another 40 minutes.
Already been complimented on my accent, and I haven't left the country yet!

I'm signing off from home. See ya all on the other side (of the Atlantic hopefully).
Safe journeys everyone :)

Have fun everyone, especially the AGI'ers.
I would've considered coming too, if it weren't for two things: no money and no plane.
-
Pfft. You're going to let a mere ocean stop you? :p

If it weren't for those stupid British Isles blocking my route, no. No way am I going to take the detour just because they refuse to move.

I'm off to Indianapolis International. See you all in a few hours. :)

I'm bringing the owl.
But not the Legendary Green Stuff.
Couldn't get my hands on the Pistachio pudding mix.
-
HMMM, I sensing that the owl is the newest version of "The Traveling Gnome". My friends and I have a similar item... it is an asian puppet that is named Sue Nommi. She reminds us of a woman in our office that makes us completely aggravated. She's been to Jazz Fest with us, been to a cabin in NY State and went to Virginia Beach with my family last summer. She's even been involved in some porn pictures.... I am under oath NOT to elaborate. Sorry
-
God dammit, I can't believe I'm not there. Call me up anytime after six New Jersey time. Let me know if DaveMason turns out to be real. At this point, I still give four to one he's fake.

I bet he's fishy.

Wait, I just thought of something.
If DaveMason's real, and he brings his bass, you'll quickly realize he doesn't know any of the songs. They're dead easy, but I'm not real sanguine about his resourcefulness.

You realize, of course, that if the opposite is true, we will have no recourse but to fire you from the Beerdie Weerdies, strip you of moustache wax privileges, and ban you from any ultra secret Beerdie information and/or meetings in the clubhouse.
On the other hand, if what you say is true, then pretend I didn't say anything.

I got a phone call! I talked to a bunch of Peelers! Turns out most of them actually exist! And it has been established and accepted that i am in fact not a man!
On an interesting side note, Melll's accent is hot.
-
Did anyone do any sensual, heavy breathing while they were on the phone with you?
Getting a phone call from other PEELers would have definitely been a better way to spend my evening than the time I spent playing poker tonight. What a waste of $10.
-
Fuck. I didn't have reception half the evening. Fucking no-reception-having University campus. OK, yis had better call me tomorrow.
-
Dave Mason, where are you? We've been looking all over North Jersey for you.
We cerrtainly weren't wandering around North Jersey because we were lost because there were no road signs, nosiree.
-
Sammy is totally jinxed! He caused a helicopter to crash in the East River. I won't spoil the story, because he's promised to post about it once he's gotten over the trauma that is the USA.
Eggs: We would have called, but we were so taken with Dave Mason and his awesome beard that we totally forgot all about you. True story.
-
New Jersey is weird and deeply confusing. Venus, I love you, you have to come next time!
-
I can say without exaggeration that yesterday was the scariest day of my life. More details when i'm not feeling obliged to participate in the orgy occurring behind me.
I love Venus too, back off Melll.
-
Poom! I'm already having so much fun! I went to the museum yesterday and told VF how Etruscan lions have lots and lots more legs than other lions... and then I was really drunk all of the sudden at momrulzes house and played DDDR, and I did pretty well actually... but JBerges smoked me all... Now I'm not good at anything anymore
*sniff*
Also Nasty we need that recording of "Future Guy" uploaded ASAP to add to all our mp3 collections. Yay! Future Guy is the best song ever after a couple drinks!!
-
I've been forced to the laptop against my will and coerced to type out a message for the amusement of the crew of sick bastages here. If anyone is out there, I'm in Jersey City someplace, I know that much. Send help. Please. PittClemens keeps touching me, and SammyXD hits me with his mountain dew bottle when I disobey. I don't know how much longer I can last.
PS. The BBQ was most excellent, good food, good music, good company (except Femjesse, she just called me a moron for my pokemon team).
-
Awww, cappy made a friendly friend! How cute!
Glad that you're having fun, ya bastids.

And I want to hear Sammy's ghost story. Either I missed it last night or maybe it just got lost in the shuffle.
Also - many many thanks to Mom Rules and Nasty and Bender Waffles' Dad for opening up their house and hearts to a bunch of complete strangers from the internet. That's gutsy!

The BBQ was great, Tongue is my new best friend and Sammy's hair is orgasmic. Love on you all. If I'm lucky Mom will give me a ride to the air port to see everyone off.... my fingers are crossed.

So, what's the deal? Were the Beerdie Weerdies a-rockin' and a-rollin'? Is Dave Mason real? Will there be video?
If you guys're hanging out with the Cap'n tonight, then definitely call me. I'll stay off campus so I have reception.
-
Nice to see you people enjoying yourselves. I hope that the fun goes on till the end of the weekend.
Also I hope that Tongue doesn't forget my plea. ;)

Slurm pic - left to right:
Nasty Pasty, Pitt Clemens, Fem Jesse, JBerges, Shaucker.
Why, Dave Mason is the best bass player I've ever played with.
I'm meeting everybody in Times Square at 6:00.
Dinner at Carmine's at ten.
I've got more pix to post and more to take.
I lied about Dave Mason.

Was there any video of the performance? At least an audio recording? Those of us who persuaded ourselves not to come join in the fun because of crappy financial commitments need the goods!

We're (nearly) all in Tongue and Shaucker's room and mourning the abscence of Scrabble. Oh, hawever shall we entertain ourselves now?

DaveMason's still fake! Rock & Roll!
-
Fishy in a wig?
-
Okay, here we are near the top of the page. Perhaps now's the time to tell the story of what happenned to me yesterday before I block it from my memory forever.
To start off with, I got an earlier flight in than any of the other Brits as it was far cheaper, and I figured that the one hour time difference between my flight and Melll's would allow me plenty of time to take the subway/PATH to Newark Airport (I landed at JFK) to meet him, Nix and VF. The first hiccup was my flight being delayed. Not by very much, but it was something. When I got in, I got stuck in the slowest queue ever for immigration. When I got to the desk, the photo-taking/fingerprinting equipment broke, and I got sent to the back of another queue. After waiting for absolutely ages, I was the last passenger to go through, even though I was one of the first off the plane. I also find out that the phone i'd brought didn't work in America, leaving me without a way to contact Melll. Now, of course, time was very important here, so I had to rush to the Airtrain/Subway connection without fully knowing which way I had to go. As immigration had taken so long, the terminal had almost entirely cleared out of all staff (all the passengers had gone), and the one lady I found directed me to the wrong damned train.
So, that's another chunk of time gone. I finally get on the A train into Manhatten, and it breaks down. By this point, i'm running quite far behind, so I decide it'd be easier just to get a cab to the airport. I exit at Utica Avenue, and there's no taxis to be found anywhere. The guy at the station laughs at me when I return to ask for a phone number to call, but eventually gives me a number. I only have paper money, so I buy a soda to get some change for a payphone. I can't figure out how to pronounce the street name i'm on, and after some awkard jostling with the cab operator, she tells me there's no cabs in my area and hangs up on me. I am also completely unable to connect to Melll's foreign cellphone. Shit, think I. I'm stuck in a completely unfamiliar country with a lot of valuable posessions on me (electronics, money, passport, credit card) and a limited run of options. I start to wander, hoping to see a cab and less gangs with visable firearms.
I eventually come to a discount clothes store, where I beg the clerk to phone a cab for me, which the very friendly guy thankfully does. He even flags the cab down for me when it almost speeds straight past. After some confusion over where I want to go (my pronunciation of 'Newark' apparently indistinguishable from 'New York') we head off through NY towards Jersey. Except, a helicopter had crashed in the East River, blocking traffic for miles in each direction. I'm getting really worried by this point as it's three and a half hours since I was meant to meet Melll (even accounting for my late flight arrival) by the time we even get to the Holland tunnel.
$90 later, he drops me off in the departures section of Newark terminal C (unable to understand that I wanted arrivals). I try again at a payphone to find out where Melll is by using the operator and my credit card. Only, there's been some sort of security violation which has put Mastercards at risk, which happens to be my only credit card. I can't use it. Shit, shit, shit.
Okay, I figure, they've probably gone back to the hotel. But, after talking with the attendent at the airport taxi rank, she manages to totally confuse me about which hotel I wanted by insisting it was right next to the airport (I thought the hotel was in Jersey City). I get in the cab, which has been chartered to run me just round the corner, and start pleading with the driver (who can thankfully understand me this time) to help me. He pulls over and gets me to go over all the details I know about the hotel, and tells me I was totally right about wanting to go to Jersey City. Which was unfortunately blocked at every turn by heavy accident-driven traffic. I have a minor (read: major) breakdown at this point.
Thankfully, the driver was a fantastic guy and performed some horribly illegal manuevers to get us clear of the blockages and got me to the hotel. Five hours late. The receptionist manages to get through to Melll's phone and it turns out he'd just got back with VF and Nix after waiting all that time at the airport. They arrive in the lobby. There are hugs all around.
I thank various deities for the people that got me through it, and curse the same guys for all the shitty luck i'd been through. $130 on cab fare was not a good investment straight off the plane.
Jeez, that was long. Sorry all.
-
Damn.
When you tell your grandkids this story, be sure to put Godzilla in it somewhere. And congratulations on surviving the worst New Jersey had to throw at you. Many, many Englishmen would have buckled under the strain. I salute you, Samuel.
P.S. I like PEELathons because it's the one time of the year when I get called "Mr. Eggs."
-
Awww poor Sammy! That was scary. When I see you again Ill give you a big hug.

Good story, isn't there some flat rate thing for taxi's from JFK in manhatten? or were you already there when you got the taxi?
Glad everything worked out. i'd give you a hug...but, i have a macho image to uphold....just kidding, you can have one anyway
-
...so by the time Sammy gets to Mom's Nasty Bender, he's ready for food food food.
He gets his first real All American Burger cooked on an All American backyard grill by an All American Mom. And loves it. Hearty food for the weary traveler. I concur. Mom Rules throws a great BBQ.
-
That sounded awfully crazy Sammy; I'm glad everything managed to work out, it would've sucked to have lost ya in the entangling mazes of the east coast....
Edit: I'm confused.... is Dave Mason really real? Or not...?
-
Just riding in a NYC / Jersey City cab for a few minutes can be a nerve-wracking experience. Sammy's a real trouper for enduring so much of it.
I have a picture of most of the gang, lemme see if I can get imageshack to host it.

It's a pretty big pic so I figured I'd spare the 56k crowd and everyone else who doesn't want the image to load every time they open this thread page.
re-edit - Yeah, you all don't want the "mage" to load every time you look at this page. How about "image".
And it's a 640kb jpeg file, so we're talking really big.
-
While I think that I can guess pretty much everyone on this pic, adding names still would be nice.
Oh, and you all look suspiciously happy. What happened and do I really want to know?
-
That is a great group picture
-
Got back a few hours ago from a most amazing weekend. It was wonderful to meet everyone, and see all that I've already met again. Instead of going into great detail about the various things we did and all the amusing antics of the group, I'll post a good deal of the pictures. The best ones are thumbnailed, and for anyone who's very curious about the inner working of PEELathon, click the links. I'll leave the story-telling to Sammy, et al.
Oh, and there aren't any pictures here from the barbecue at Nasty's, as my camera did not have batteries at the time, but I know other people will post some. Thanks to mom_rules for opening up the house to us! It was a very good time. Hope we didn't trash the house too much. Lord knows that DDR can get kind of out of control .

Am I the only one who sees the images stretched out left to right when clicking the thumbnails, not not top to bottom? Gives me a funhouse mirrior view of the pics.
-
Looks like you had a fun weekend. Well, with Sammy around that was pretty much guaranteed, right? Gotta hand it to Nasty's parents, opening their home to a group of internet nerds. That's classy.
Could guess most of the people through the power of elimination, but as Spiff said would be nice with some names.
::looks at random PEELer::
Who are those people?
::he shrugs::
-
I need names damnit! I don't know whose who! Whose the chick with all the piercings?

I thought I was supposed to be photoshopped into those pics! In front of Jesse!
Meh, awesome photos. I wanna see pic-a-tures from the bbq, though. I need to see the band, man.
Edit: Venus, don't you know Tongue Luck when you see her?
Hi, Tongue! *waves*

Gimme a few minutes to size down some pix and then I post them here in an edit.
But first, in Capper's pic:
In the front: Nasty Pasty and Shaucker.
Next row back:
Kloudes, Melllvar, Tongue Luck, Pitt Clemens, Fem Jessie, Archie2K, Sammy, Crash_7.
In the back:
The Mad Capper, Zed 85.
Not in the picture:
Velour Fog, Nixorbo, JBerges, and myself.

Damn you all for getting to hang around with Tounge Luck. And Bergey. And 'Skusting. And Dr. T. And Melllvar. And each other in general. Grrrr.
Archie's beard looks like mine, only fuller. What a jerk.
No, seriously. I'm jealous as hell of all of you.

[PEEL Rage Dumped about 10 posts, then mortaly wounded this one]
I'll try it again.... unless somone somehow has a copy of that giant post I made.

I see the Stooges and the Lemonade made it safely back to Jersey City.
Was the Stooges any good? I can get it locally.
I just want the bottle caps.
-
I have to say that being the "nOOb" here, I have made 16 new and special friends. (I'm not saying like "short bus" special) I will gladly open my home for the next PEELathon. Let's make sure we plan on it... and Sammy my friend... I shall pick you up from ANY NY area airport personally so you do not have to go through another terrible commute in the BIG city. Believe me, I drive for my job in NY all week... IT SUCKS MAJOR ASS!
I hope next time I won't have to work and I can actually go into NY with you and really let my hair down.
Thanks for letting me be a small part of the weekend. You all are great.

OK, that's weird- - this thread just went from 320 posts to 312.

I noticed that... I have no idea what else was posted, but I guess I should repeat what I said before-- Cap'n, if you'd like those bottle caps, let me know. I grabbed them this morning and I'll gladly mail them to you.
Um... does PEEL have some sort of poltergeist I don't know about?

I just tried to save JBERGES' post, but it wouldn't let me. :(

Ok... then not.
This is all my IE saved of the lost posts. Not really much, just 3-4 posts (http://www.k-hausmann.de/futurama/otherstuff/12-002419-8.htm)

Slacky, Archie doesn't have a beard...unless you're being sarcastic.
Okay, PEELathon rocked so very very much, and I miss everyone already.
Interesting story:
Today, on W 34th, we (Pitt, Pasty, Zed, Archie, Mell, Sammy, BenderWaffles, RabidPixy, TL, and I) were just loitering as usual in a GameStop store.
There was some field anchor for WB11 (CT, NY, NJ) doing a piece on a controversial new game called 25 to Life.
For some craaazzy reason, he decided to take our vast wisdom and interviewed Pitt, Zed, Archie, and me. It was the most surreal thing that's ever happened.
To people that were there: I caught the last part where he interviewed Zed. I'm pretty certain Pitt and I won't be on the show, since we're not British.
Oh...and Crash looks like Colin Mochrie. Evan, where are you when we need you?
-
So I was watching the 10 o'clock news and bang... there on the screen was Archie2K, Shaucker and Zed 85. Nice interviews people. Bender_Waffles gave me a heads up that it would be on so I recorded it if anyone wants a copy.
Sorry Pitt, you ended up on the cutting room floor of the news station. They were probably so enthralled with your sheer beauty that they didn't dare air that.
-
Breifly said: Peelathon was beynod description in its sheer grandness. I'll detail further thoughts later. For now, I'm off to sort pressing matters, like preparing photos and a slideshow, soon to be seen at 14rivers.com.
Edit: YAY! ARCHIE, SHAUKER, ZED85!
As for my personal reaction to the news...

Thank you so much GFF! Heres the post, back and slightly better (added a pic)
PEELathon 2005 in 3 condensed parts:
Friday
After meeting at the hotel, those not caught up in Sammy's day from hell headed to the Pasty residence. DrT wore an avatar shirt; we were amused.
Avatar Shirt (http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y33/JBERGES/Thunder_Fri.jpg)
And Cap'n was looking just about as cool as humanly possible:
Cap'n (http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y33/JBERGES/Capn_Fri.jpg)
The 'band' got going even before the Brits arrived. We had some skilled guitar players and singers,
TMC and Pitt (http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y33/JBERGES/TMC_Pitt_Fri.jpg)
and Whoop and I took turns passably playing the drums. We were relieved of out duties when Mel got there.
Mel Arrives (http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y33/JBERGES/Kloudes_Mel_Fri.jpg)
Kloudes was obviously thrilled. At one point, I couldn't tell whether FemJesse was coming on to me/everyone or just drunk. My confusion was alleviated when she proudly introduced herself to Sammy as "Gem Fesse."
GemFesse (http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y33/JBERGES/Jesse_Fri.jpg)
With the crowd all there, fun was had by all:
(Fun) (http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y33/JBERGES/Many_Fri.jpg)
We took time out to call Venus and Eggs. No one could get through to Eggs, but everyone got a chance to talk to Venus. By the way, she says Melllll's accent is hot, but in the beginning she couldn't even tell the difference between it and my crass Joisey speak. Anyway, here's Shaucker and Kloudes talking to H-er:
Phone Call (http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y33/JBERGES/Shauck_Kloudes_Fri.jpg)
Video games were played before we left; Melll and Zed spectated for most of it:
British People (http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y33/JBERGES/Zed_Mel_Fri.jpg)
After profusely thanking mom rules for a great party, we hit to road, only to get extremely lost due to a road block on a major highway. Lets just say, I got so lost that I hit that same roadblock twice. Everyone made it back safely before 3AM.

Saturday
Everyone eventually congregated in Nix and VF's room on Saturday Morning. While we waited for Nasty to arrive, a few people took advantage of the time to get their PEEL fix.
Crash and Melll (http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y33/JBERGES/Crash_Mel_Sat.jpg)
Meanwhile, We gave DrThunder a DrThunder soda, because it's clever. One of them was eventually consumed by FemJesse. I forget which.
Thunder! THUNDER! (http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y33/JBERGES/DrT_Sat.jpg)
Starting the trip to the city, we went to Battery Park to get a view of the Statue of Liberty, and then to Pearl River Mart to buy Japanese Candy, among other things. Pitt got some aloe plant juice... and drank the whole thing:
Aloe-icious? (http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y33/JBERGES/Pitt_Sat.jpg)
While some people entered the Hello Kitty Store (With quality items such as Hello Kitty Paper, Hello Kitty Air Conditioners, and Hello Kitty Potato Peelers), Jesse, Sam, and Nasty decided to catch up on their reading:
Carnal Knowledge (http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y33/JBERGES/Jesse_Sammy_Nasty_Sat.jpg)
But like last time, a lot of the day was spent standing around, unsure of where to go next:
Confusion (http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y33/JBERGES/Many_Sat.jpg)
Once we met up with the Cap'n that evening, he took us to Bryant Park, which was surprisingly tranquil, especially when Tongue brought the bubbles out:
Sunset Squad (http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y33/JBERGES/Park_Sat.jpg)
My weird pictures of TMC always seem to come out good. First the newspaper, and now this bit of fun:
No Comment (http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y33/JBERGES/Capper_Sat.jpg)
Dinner was at Carmines. This picture makes you think everyone ate a lot, but really it was just Archie and I working at all that food. Needless to say, there were plenty of leftovers.
Carmine's (http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y33/JBERGES/Carmines.jpg)
Saturday wound down in room 502, where pajama's were donned and we toasted the night with 3 Stooges Brand Beer (Floor is now open for all 'tastes funny' jokes).

Sunday
Most of us managed to get up early for breakfast on Sunday. Those who staggered down for the meal had some intellectual conversation, mainly about the difference between American tea and English tea:
General Discusion (http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y33/JBERGES/Breakfast_Sun.jpg)
Actually, it was mainly about why American tea was bad, but it all came full circle when Archie couldn't quite figure out the American coffee makers. I assure you that he did not pose for this picture:
Coffee (http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y33/JBERGES/Archie_Sun.jpg)
Everyone was a bit tired:
Bed Pile (http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y33/JBERGES/Many_Sun.jpg)
But I don't think anyone could compete with Jesse:
Scary (http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y33/JBERGES/Jesse_Sun.jpg)
At that point it was time for me to go. One more picture of me and my roommates for the road:
Kloudes, Shaucker, Me, and Tongue (http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y33/JBERGES/Tongue_Shauck_Me_Kloudes_Sun.jpg)
Well, all in all it was a whole lot of fun. Until the next one...
EDIT:
Does everyone notice how I'm hugging everyone BUT Nix in all the pictures? I'm so sweet!
I dont have a picture of this, but to everyone else, if youve never seen two moderators fall asleep on each other on a sidewalk in the city, youve never seen sweet.
-
I had a great time, gang. I wasn't able to post from the PEELathon itself because I didn't have the foresight to memorize my password. Oops! Anyway, I'm pooped and I need to sleep. I have a lot of good pictures that I'll post tomorrow.
-
You just say that because you were there...
That Carmine's pic is hilareous, but I came out looking possessed :p
-
I'm so bummed that I couldn't be there with you guys. Especially Melll and that sexy voice of his.
Mom, you are truly cool for opening up your home to our little community. Next year in Jerusalem.

I'm unacustomed to Joisey speak. On my cell you sounded vaguely British. But then i talked to Melll and he sounded very British. Also, his accent is hotter than yours so nyah :p

You think Sammy's story was traumatic? Let me tell you something, I was waiting to use Nix's computer the entire time he was typing that! Seriously though, it was a pretty amazing story that will most certainly go down in the annals of PEEL history, and a lot more important than the freakin' title game.
In all seriousness, I had a great time. I don't know too many people who would go out of their ways just to slack off with a bunch of slackers in a far-away city. Not to mention I finally got to do something interesting in New York. Even something as mundane as the subway was far more entertaining to me than walking around the Statue of Liberty with a bunch of jerks from school.
For those of you who didn't go, let me give you the report card.
Crash's Jag: A+
The Jag's GPS system: A+
Our ability to follow the GPS system: C-
The PastyQ: A+
Sammy MIA: F
Getting $1 coins at the PATH station: B
Crazy asian store: A
Hello Kitty store: What's the grade equivalent to shoving a pen through my eye?
Playing frisbee in the park: A

Dinner at Carmine's: A+

In short, I felt like the biggest nerd in the world and it was great.
Let me close by saying that everyone I met at the PEELathon was almost exactly the way I imagined them from their posting. I think my feelings about the shindig could best be summed up by what I told my mom on the way home from the airport. I didn't fly out to New York to meet up with strangers, I flew out to New York to meet up with my friends.
It was a weirdly wonderful experience.

Let me just say that this past weekend has been one of the best and most enjoyable of my life.
I really hope that we get the opportunity to do this again really soon.

Okay, a few comments from the weekend, in no particular order.
Carmine's was nice. I think we ordered the dishes with small amounts of food though.... $20 for manicotti, and we only got 6 of the damn things for our 8 people. $20 for Chicken Marsala to split between 8 people, and it had like 4 underweight (we're talking 3 ounces of meat each) chicken breasts in it. The food was very good though, and we all had enough to eat by the end of it.
I am achieving recognition as a pro masseur. I even got a kiss for it! :D
Mom's Nasty Bender was great, you could tell that a lot of time, work, and money went into it, so you all should know that Mom does indeed Rule. I want the video clip of Future Guy!
Berges is nucking futs on the DDR pad. we're talking highest difficulty level, spinning around in circles as he dances, and not looking at the screen for seconds at a time while he continues dancing in step to the game.
Jesse did a good job convincing people that she was really drunk, when she was only kinda drunk. It was a good act though, would have fooled me too if I didn't have insider info.
The guy wandering around in the street was scary. He managed to lurch his way onto the relative safety of the sidewalk, after about half a dozen near misses with taxis, buses, etc. He was staggering around in moving traffic, obviously mentally damaged or drugged or both. More than one car screeched to a halt just short of running him over, and then he staggered into the path of one coming from the other direction, almost got hit again, and so it went. Thank God he DID sort his shit out and get across the street, I wasn't far from running out there and getting him clear of the cars myself.
We wandered down Broadway and saw the theaters where Producers and Spamalot were playing, that was cool too.
I'm glad I had a chance to meet this year's newcomers. Thunder was a nice guy. And I loved his hat. Tongue Luck turned out to be pretty cool, didn't get to talk to her that much but... she bought the bubble gun! And she drinks Sam Adams! Those two actions will put anyone in my good books. Shaucker was quite cool too, even though we all crowded around her in the elevator and took turns sniffing her (I'm not joking, that did happen). And she proclaimed me an expert backrub-type guy, so woohoo! The brits were all fantastic, hope they can make the trip over again next time. Pasty's girlfriend made the poster for Mom'sNastyBender! BenderWaffles played DDR with us and wore a top hat! Crash was all-around cool, and he took a lot of good pics that I'm sure you all will appreciate. He's also got some killer muscles, I wanted to arm-wrestle him but there was no tournament this year, so we never got around to it. And his paper airplanes were pretty dern sweet. Not to mention he really did rent a Jag, and he was good enough to let some of us ride in it.

I suspected after that whole "Jem Fessie" routine, but I didn't say anything because I'd been drinking. But I drank less than I let on... ;)

I think the best parts for me were the 2 hours sitting in Bryant Park quoting Futurama and the late-night videogame session at my house.
Goooood times...

In fact, nobody had any alcohol at all all weekend! We were all pretending to drink beer but we really weren't! Pretty cool huh?

Lets see if I can remember what I said in the posts that went missing...
Kloudes - I'm gonna pick up a sizer of Stooge beer at my local grocery - no need to send caps.
On dinner - despite what Capper said about the size of the portions, our table (DrT, Pitt, Nix, Zed, Melll, Capper, Crash and myself) ordered twice as moce as the other table and had no leftovers.
We be eatin' machines.
Soon, I'll get my Bryant Park pix up.

This looks absolutely awesome. I'll try and save up money because now I really want to go. Even though I don't have a nice accent I could show off (unless I imitate a thick German accent, that is).
Oh yeah, I've also never been to New York. Or the American east coast as such, for that matter.

Yeah, your Engrish is pretty clean, actually. Booze would make a perfect archetypical Preußer if he tightened it up a bit.
And I have pretty much envy right here. Those tales and pictures suggest that fun was had. Lack of moneys and courage got the best of me again.

I have Billy West's interview with The Onion in print, and it's all thanks to my local PEELathon.
And TMC, to some extent, because he was the one who found an Onion box. But I was the one who told him to look for them. So it's all thanks to me, Nixorbo, your lovable moderator!

Right right, Nix wasn't the one who found the papers or grabbed them and gave them out to everyone, but he's the reason we all got them or something!

My old band from 27 years ago is working on some reunion gigs in Upstate NY during Thanksgiving weekend. We've already booked one night in Elmira, NY, one night in Corning NY, and are working on booking a third gig at either The Haunt or somewhere else in Ithaca, NY.
I'll post more details in the I Think I've Got Myself A Tinitus thread as they become available.
And I gotta say Shaucker impressed me by being a fan of Green Arrow, Alan Moore, and the DC Vertigo imprint.
-
I say... lets all go see Cap'n's band and go camping... yeah!!! Corning and Ithaca are too cool for words. Some of my favorite places.

I am teh home. Waking up at 0520 EST and returning home at 2230 GMT messes with your system. I'm completely wired right now.
PEELathon III in a nutshell
Everyone was so damn hospitable it was lovely. That the Pasty family took us into their house, Nix, Velour, Crash, DrT and all drove the poor lost people around, sheer brilliance.
New York is a place like no other. Times Square is officially nuts. I bought far too much sutff whilst out there, whittling my $270 down to $30 in two days.
I love WB11. The caption was brilliant "Damien Jones - Video Game Player". That's all I do. The viewers must've been bloody confused too. "This is in New York. Why have they got two British people on TV?" (and yes I'm not making this up. PEEL meets seem to attract insane situations). I was called at about 10.15 by an inane Melll and Sammy shouting "Did you see it? You were on TV!"
"I went to New York for three days and wound up on the news" :D
I turned from a Brit into a true flag-waving, Mets-supporting, camo-wearing American patriot. :D
----------------------
I took 50 photos. These are four of my favoruites. I'll try and get the others online and decent tomorrow.

See man-who-made-fun-of-Sammy-for-saying-cheers, the Brits really DO say "Cheers". British Airways agree with us.
Back on British soil, the Mets take on... the Mets.
-
It was actually very savvy of the WB to air the gaming opinions of a couple of Brits.
It helps widen the story to beyond the confines of NYC and even America.
My wife wants to know why you guys bought Mets shirts. I suppose it's because a Brit can't be seen wearing a shirt that says Yankee.

@Skusting: Two legitimate reasons;
1) The Yankees are cliched. You can get their clothing all over the place here.
2) The British have a history of supporting the underdogs, which from what little I garnered from FOX Sports last night (OK you can hit me now), the Mets are actually pretty terrible.
My real reason though: It was cheap and bright orange. :D

Cap'n, because of that conversation about comics, you have been upgraded to "Coolest Person EVER".
Since only you will understand my excitement at this:
I got Ross' "Uncle Sam" book and "The Return of Donna Troy" at Forbidden Planet. Sooo worth the money. I would let Alex Ross have me, were he ever to leave his basement.
Also, I think you and Mrs. Skusting should get Oliver Queen/Dinah Lance outfits.
Oh, and people at work saw me on TV last night...even though I didn't. And I regret that we who were interviewed didn't think to give fake Futurama names.

When I was waiting in the hotel lobby for the airport shuttle, this random British guy decided to strike up a conversation. He was in America to save money on shopping. By way of proof, he showed me his four boxes of new shoes. Then he asked if I was with "that big group of people in black T-shirts". Confused, I told him that I was with a big group, but there wasn't a dress code. He was all, "You know... One of them said I'm Ambitious Like Germany or something," while giggling like a schoolgirl who sounded suspiciously like a grown man. Congratulations, Sammy! Your shirt is famous!

My actual camera has been MIA for a month or two, and I stupidly ended up with these cheap, flash-free disposables. That was pretty much the only picture that was neither dark nor made redundant by somebody else's pictures. But a couple turned out neat because of the bad lighting.

Bah! All you Englunder's look alike... except that some of you don't have beards, apparently.

It's okay, Slacky. For some reason I kept confusing Archie and Zed as well, and I was with them for 2 days. Sorry guys :( You both were great, though :D
Tongue, that picture of Melll, B_W, and Pasty is strangely amusing. I'm not sure I understand the guys facial expressions.
August in New York is HOT. I'm sure you can figure that out. Lots of pavement + No shade = Very sweaty PEELers. I'd rather be huddling over subway grates for warmth in December. Still, if that's the general concensus...
I would like to take the time to say I officially have the best voicemail greeting ever. Thank you Sammy! *huggles* Also, VF, I got your message this morning and it made me laugh, so thanks.
I'm incredibly sad that this weekend went by so fast. You all are a bunch of awesome people.
Oh, and for those who care, my voice is almost totally back.

Well, I would holidays from end of july to october or end of february to april.
So if it was somehow possible, I would prefer dates somewhere around that time.
Oh yeah, I also noticed that if it's summer, I would get to eat Ben & Jerry's ice. That stuff rules and you can't get in anywhere around here.
-
Oh yeah, about Ben & Jerry's... I hadn't tried it until you got all worked up about it at Eat Mode in Amsterdam... When I got home I started looking, and it was nowhere to be found, but... now it is! Yes, Denmark now has Ben & Jerry's!

@VF - There, I'm being polite :p
@Zeej - Well we had a few hotdogs off the street. Can someone point out a more American burger joint than McDonalds though?
Well, I was able to regail everybody with my wonderful St Petersburg anecdote where we went to the 5th McDonalds in SPb and were told that there was a plan to add an extra 50 in the next 5-10 years...
That and I wanted to check out what they called Chicken McNuggets in Russian.
Turns out its:

I can say without fear of contradiction that that was an awesome weekend. I'd agree with Kloudes when she said that it went by too quickly. I was a little emotional to slowly say goodbye to everyone on Sunday (the group dwindled until there was only the Brits left).
There were many surreal moments throughout the entire weekend (No.1 was Archie/Zed/Shauker on the ten o'clock news, no.2 was getting directions from a British guy to 33rd St. PATh Station - he was from Durham).
I'm still fried from the weekend, it was an awful lot to take in. That said, I'll be back again next year, and this time, let's make it for a week.
-

We went there because people wanted to sit down. There aren't a lot of places that allow a group of 16 noisy people to take over and hang out.

Better Burger Joints:
Forget MacDonalds or Burger King or Wendy's
Here ya go:
American Burger & Co. (http://www.menupages.com/restaurantdetails.asp?neighborhoodid=0&restaurantid=3930) excellent burgers grilled to order.
Corner Bistro (http://www.menupages.com/restaurantdetails.asp?areaid=0&restaurantid=4278&neighborhoodid=0&cuisineid=0) haven't ett thar meself but I hear it's good.
Peter Luger Steakhouse (http://www.peterluger.com/) World renouned and in Brooklyn.

Surreal moment no.2 was weird, Mel. It's like you had Brit-dar or something. His directions were great too...
"You're standing on top of it"
"Oh."
"Cheers."
As for the McDonalds, due to our location, it was either that or a Starbucks. I think we made the right choice.
Edit: So yeah, when's the next one?!
-
what are you doing next weekend?
Oh Kloudes! I never saw your Hello Kitty car! drive it down for me to see!
-
Summer is a good time to have these, let's go hell-for-leather and do it for a week. That way, we can do more stuff (and also do stuff at a more leisurely pace), for example:
Go see either a game or a band at MSG.
Go see the Statue Of Liberty.
Go up to top of the Empire State Building.
Do one of those cheesey bus tours.
Sit around and watch DVDs/play video games.
It was one of those things that Sammy and I insisted in quoting obscure British Comedy (now the Americans at least know of The Day Today and Brass Eye through us), and we feel it's only fair that we bring DVDs out of the stuff we quoted so intensely.
Call it a cultural exchange.
-
if you want to sit around playing video games for a week, you can all just come to my house
my mom: "people came all the way from England?!!?! Why?"
i told her that's just how awesome I am, and also that you are all rich.

Both of those are true.
Archie, post the rest of your pics, where's the (B)Limey pic, and the pic of me in Times Square? Also the other pic of TMC blowing bubbles (insert Michael Jackson's Monkey joke here).
-
who was the other person who got a picture of the group at the WTC? I only saw one posted and I know there were two cameras.
-
Tongue did. I suspect that it was a group of silouettes.
-
All Archie's relevant PEELathon III pictures (http://www.dead-rockstar.co.uk/trash/peelathoniii/peelathoniii.php)
The one's which were crappy or of buildings I decided not to include for fear of coma induced boredom. I particularly recommend limey.jpg/blimey.jpg which are Melllvar posing with some BA cards we got for free in Forbidden Planet.
Also from forbidden planet was the picture of me with an Archie comic. I bought it.
Sammy and Melllvar got aqua massages. Sammy looks like the pleasure is causing him to bite his own arm off, though I'm reliably informed that he was covering up a shit-eating grin.
Breakfast.jpg is the nearest to a group shot I got.
Everyone's just got out of bed look from left to right: SammyXDiamond, VelourFog, Nixorbo, Crash_7, Melllvar, Kloudes, Nasty Pasty, Shaucker, Tongue Luck, JBERGES

Awesome pix, Nix!
Parallel Dimension Spex: another classic!

Right, let me just pack my stuff then. :p
I would so be up for a week, assuming it was in the summer. If people couldn't make it that long, they could come and go as they pleased.
Nix, your camera must be one of the ones that the crazy ghost finder people use. Those blobs of crap and weird light things are apparently spirits...

Cap'n: We got the massages at the Manhatten Mall, off of 33rd Street.
I'd also like to second VF who asked that someone post an online version of the WB11 News Report, featuring TVs Archie, TVs Zed and TVs Shauker.
-
I've google searched and they don't seem to hold cached news reports on video.
If hosting is a problem, I've got a bunch of webspace which i'm not going to be doing much with from now on :D

As I suspected!
That's the building I work in - on the 10th floor!
It used to be Gimbles Department store way back when.
Those are the only Aqua Massagers I know of.
My wife and I saw Richard Dreyfuss getting into one of those once. They have headphones, and we told him they'd be playing the theme to Jaws. He said "That sounds relaxing".

Before the pictures, I didn't think much about not being able to go. Now I'm sad. :p 3 years isn't much time, is it? *remembers that 3 years ago he was going into 5th grade* Awww.
-
Hey Nix, isn't that a nice song to be stuck with?
I hope Nasty did it the Beatles way, though I am sure he did. ;)

I am so jealous I feel like I'm being consumed by tiny little lizards. From within.
It looks like you all had a great time, anyway. Lucky bastids...

That's because I sung that verse over and over again to you while you were sleeping.
Which reminds me, Mellll, are you going to post what Sammy said to you about sleeping? Did you take any pictures of that erotic mirror wall in your room?
To whoever posted the picture of everyone at breakfast: I am not just out of bed! I even took a shower, damn it! :shakes fist:
FemJesse: mom rules was really cool
VelourFog: yeah. she imed me to say how nice we all were
VelourFog: I was like, "aw!"
VelourFog: Yea she's really sweet
VelourFog: and she curses!
VelourFog: I wish my mom was like that
FemJesse: I wish my mom were more like Mom Rules
VelourFog: hee
FemJesse: lol
-
Oh yes, I'd also like to point out to everyone not at NYC that a)Mom does indeed Rule and b) concerning that just out of bed breakfast shot. I'm not in that shot, because I am still in bed - asleep, and will be asleep for probably another 75 minutes after that shot was taken...
-
Did anyone else notice that I wasn't in the hotel room party Saturday night and Nix wasn't there to hang out in the hotel room the next morning? We're like a tag team. Isn't that cute?
and speaking of cute... archie's picture of TMC in Times Square with the doggie is the most adorable thing I've ever seen. AW!
-
I so want to go to one of these. But I'd be either really annoying or really shy. Plus I like weirding random people out on the street, I'd probably get killed by some hobo. Maybe next year if there's one when I'm old enough to drink in New York.

I took another pic of it from the side where it looks its proper blue color. But it looks more menacing from the front with the light hitting it that way.

@GFF: Yep, classic version. Good stuff.
@to all PEELathoners: Nice pics everyone! :)

He was my inspiration

Wow, I feel so special! You should put my avy on that shirt though... In other news, we should pressure nasty into putting the Future Guy preformance up!

Whoop, I'm waiting for you to make a "Nix closed my threads" shirt. Can you say photo op?
And Whoop, you don't need to pressure me at all. That performance rocked, I just havent had the time to burn it on the PC yet...

So Sammy got to experience the curse of good old JFK eh? Hearing that little story brings back memories of all the delays I ran into prior to and after arriving in NYC. Still it seems that Sammy ran into even more trouble then I did after arriving in NYC. Fortunately for me I had numerous maps showing me how to get to my destination, complete with satellite photographs of the hotel and GPS coordinates. I also had a cellphone but if there's one thing I learned about NYC it is that none of those things can save you from countless delays.
Anyway..
It sounds like Peelathon was great, and I wished I could have been there. I'm sure getting lost(again), and delayed to hell(again), with Sammy would have been better then getting lost alone.
-
Whose Jag was that?
Edit:
Wow. I deemed myself incapable of who's/whose mistakes.

I got all of that information using the all-mighty internet and if there's something the internet isn't good for then I have yet to learn of it. Not that all that information really saved me all that much time in the end. Part of the problem was I got bad instructions from one of the bus operators and ended up at Newark. (that was three buses and over an hour later) From Newark I took a cab to the hotel, which cost me $40 or $60, I can't remember exactly how much.
Next time I go to NYC I'll have to plan all my transportation and reserve rides ahead of time.

The Peelerthon was FUN! It was quiet an adventure when my mom almost got lost to the way to the Motel. Luckly we took a right and then left and we found it. She dropped me off. I grabbed most of my bags but forgot one. (it was still in the cartrunk)
When we went to New Jersey City we had a ton of fun as a group.
We shopped at the store (http://usera.imagecave.com/Crash_7/homeless.JPG)
Then we drove in my car (http://usera.imagecave.com/Crash_7/Franken.JPG)
We tried to see a musicle but we could not get in because it was sold out of tickets (http://usera.imagecave.com/Crash_7/beforedinner.JPG)
I have a lot more pictures but I will have to wait for me to unpack my scanner before I can scan them.
I just want to say that even though I met (most) of you on the internet I consider you to be real friends. I wish that we all lived closer together to hang out more often. I dont think anybody would be able to disagree.

Oh Dave Mason! We live so close to each other and yet you never hang out with me, even though you consider me a true internet friend!
Those are some really great pictures though, you have such original vision. I just wish there was one of your awesome beard to show Canned Eggs.
-
Cannedeggs wasnt there?? Than who was that guy with the beard!?
-
@Kloudes: First of all- "PEELathon group"? Secondly- I think I'd bee too much of a sissy to call up somebody from the internet.
A side note: You have a Weezer tee, and Weezer is pretty much not the worst band in the world. I approve. Too bad the best ones in my size are all sold out.
Oh, and another thing- I think the cutest couples are actually those three ones (that I'm aware of) at the PEELathon. You guys make me sick!

Ok, Sammy didn't sleep too well on the first night, and I was cream-crackered, so Sammy was taken to laying awake listening to the "interesting" noises I make while I sleep:
1st night: Interesting grunts and moans.
2nd night: Speaking in number-code
3rd night: Snoring like a pig.
Line up girls, you know you want me!
Did you take any pictures of that erotic mirror wall in your room?
Unfortunately not. It made our room look twice as big, we could've got more people in it!

Well, count this year out for me, I'm all out of leave until the new year. I used it up on this one, I have half of my flexible benefit left, which I could use, but that has to last until April.
You'll have to wait until next summer. I will be back, just not soon.
For the record, I was disappointed you didn't make it this time. :hmpf:
-
November? That's kind of soon. I don't know if i can save enough money by then. Also doesn't it snow in November? I live in Florida! The last time i saw snow i was in the 4th grade. i don't even own winter clothes! If we have it too soon we won't be able to get everyone back. Specially the brits who had to have spent way more on plane tickets than anyone else.
-
My PEELathon traveling expenses:
I filled my car with gas on Friday night (around $20).
My gas usage barely showed on the indicator when I
got home from Nasty's.
It cost me $6 in traveling expenses on Saturday.
I got off light.
But I did get Dave Mason's beard!
But now that I know everybody much better this time around, maybe I can help out more with rides next time around.
-
What a rip
-
Learn how to post.
Anyway, I just got back from a company outing to the Chart House in Weehawken and that restaurant has THE most gorgeous view of the skyline. I dont mean view like, Hey, is that the Empire State Building, or a bird? I mean view as in you could almost reach over the river and touch the Intrepid. Waterfront. Gorgeous. Anyway, all the staring at the city really made me miss you guys. I know Ive said it already, but it ended way too soon.
-
Agreed. For me it was one of those experiences which don't come around very often. I'm very glad of it.
Therein lies the reason to make next years PEELathon a week-long event, people who can't do it can dip in-and-out as they see fit.

If it was Dave Mason asking that question I'd say on the Atlantic Coast. But It's not so I won't.
It's couple hours South of Jersey City. On the Jersey coast.

I'd be one to stick with the tradition of keeping the PEELathon in NYC. However, if the next one is going to be for a week, there's no reason why we couldn't trip out there for a day.
-
If so make it after the 8th July, that's when I finish my college course. Money will be an object, but hell, it was great. I'll take to robbing banks or something. :D

Anytime post-April is good for me. Then I can invoke my company benefits to get me out there. Say, May - early June?

how about august-october?

As long as it's not sweltering, that would be good too. I think we just need to avoid mid-summer.

Dear Pasties, Is there anyone you know who can online-ify that vid-clip of the news report? Anyone? If anything I need to see it again, I missed what was said because I was too busy laughing.
-
I never did see the clip. Has it been posted somewhere?
-
Mom taped it off of the TV, if they can get the recording online, that would be awesome!
-
I haven't asked my mom if she could upload the news clip, or the drop-dead hilarious "Sammy Headbanging" clip yet.
-
haha
"New York is really fucking hot in the late summer"
Margie: "How about August?"
Fall, Spring and Early Summer are good times for NYC. Otherwise you have to worry about snow (and airport delays/cancellations) or heat advisory warnings.
-
You don't want to go to Atlantic City - you have to avoid all the people jumping off casions after losing it all.
-
I'll defer to local knowledge on when it should be, but I was perfectly happy with when this one was.
I'm easy.
-
that's what Sammy said.
wooooo
-
Easy (like Sunday morning).
And you wondered why we had such huge grins at breakfast.
-
Hey, I'm always grinning...
...and easy.
It's written on the door of most public lavatories, "for a good time, call Melll".

Brain: "Caissons"? Why would there be artillery carts in Atlantic City? Wait a minute, I just misread that; he said "casions." Wait a minute..." (Explodes with dual ring flares and some guy on a motorcycle jumping through both of them)

No they're not. Those are the ones I took. Still seem to be working for me. I didn't get one of you with Nixon. I have another one of you trying to kiss W, but I didn't post it. I like the other one better. I got a good pic of Sammy with Nixon at McDonalds.

Well it's looking like this band reunion business is gonna start happening much sooner than Thanksgiving.
It's 99% sure that we'll be playing at Don Hill's in Manhattan on July 13.
I'll repost with a confirmation in the next few days.
On a PEELathon related note: I might have to go out and get one of those presidential dolls so's I can snap the head off and put it in a little jar. I have a little jar that would be perfect.

Just look for a Hallmark store.

I wanted to find a Morbo doll.

That's way frikkin funny!

Stand by for that being used for a million TOTPD's. Actually being there while he did it was awesome, and Bender_Waffles describing it as the funniest thing she'd ever seen (she's lead a sheltered existence, clearly) was cool.
Joysauce: Shsssh now, dear. :p

Because it was the funniest thing! I don`t know why, though.. I just found it amusing.. Haha.

Just wait for Pitt to upload his pics. They include the sequel to last year's "I'm going to thrash you with my rolled up copy of The Onion" pic.
So Pitt, get off your ass and upload. Upload like you've never uploaded before, you lazy son of a mother.
Edited to remove Engrish.

I shall have them up before the end of tuesday.
If not, I suck, and will have to deal with it.

It's just your pics and the news broadcast (if we can get it up - fnar!) to go.
Any requests for favourite pics to go on the PEELer Pics site?
-
I'm a bit late to the thread, but nice pics everyone. Especially like Sammy's hair and his Zero shirt.
Need Australian PEEL meeting, but we're all too lazy/poor.
-
Mostly lazy. Although I did have this weird dream that Ben and some non PEEL person that I created in my mind came and met me at the Sydeny airport even though we hadn't arranged a meeting. Also, it didn't look like Ben, but it was Ben.
Last time I PEEL and sleep.

So do we get a rebate. Are any Yanks, I mean, friendly and courteous American citizens, going to visit our fog-blanketed and mysterious shores some time? I'll shotgun to Camden for yas alls ;)
If the worst comes to the worst, I'll pay for the tape to be sent over here you know. My friends and family still don't believe me. I assume there's no region x on VHS.

I'm gonna come visit Mellll, but it won't be this year because I'm using my vacation time and money to go to Rome (you can come meet me there!). Plus Mellll has to buy a couch for me to sleep on first.
I'm surprised that none of you nerds has the technology to get a video uploaded to the net. For shame!!!

You'd still have to have the tape converted from NTSC to PAL.
And that's gonna run you around $22

Archie... no worries... I am in video production and will make you a PAL copy. Or do you a region code for DVD.
I haven't forgotten, I have been especially busy these past couple of weeks... you know with graduations and such. I will dub off a couple of copies in PAL as well as NTSC

Not necessarily. Plenty of VCR's here have NTSC playback, so long as they're not of the ultra-cheap variety. I have a number of US tapes myself.
-
Speaking of the video, I'll take an NTSC copy, there. Also, I want to be digitally added into every scene in the most expensive way possible.

I think the far away one with Bender_Waffles in a hat kind of looks like me. I had to think for a second... "Wait, I never wore a hat!" Maybe it's all in my mind, who knows.

You know you're with a group of nerds when the conversation progresses thusly:
1. Futurama
2. Simpsons
3. Family Guy
4. American Dad
5. Invader Zim
6. Clone High
7. Futurama
-
We also talked about Gargoyles and Pete&Pete at our end of the table in McDonalds. :p
-
Star wars...then russain cosmonautical history
-
Great conversation topics. Another one I might suggest: No Jolt Cola for Pitt before getting him to snap pictures. Nice twitch. Looks like you all had a blast, though.
-
Pitt's share of the hotel bill arrived today. The circle is finally complete. Well, not quite complete...one of the people in that room is a big freeloader!
-
well seeing as I paid in cold hard foldable cash, that's not me. I suggest a lawyer.
-
Which brings me onto a subject me and Pitt discussed. Everyone has a subject of conversation whereby an innocent enquiry will crack open a geyser which can not be stopped. For Zed it is russian cosmonautical history, for me it's drug laws, for pitt it's DNA and its uses.
Anyone else have one?
Wayne: Er, boobs? ;)

Great pictures all, looks like y'all had a great time. Am seriously envious.

Archie: You are SO lucky you stopped me about the query for genetic mental illness. To this day I'm still getting more for an answer.

Yo, that's actually a sweet idea Ben.
We should totally have a halloween BBQ PEELathon!
Our comrades in the UK and Europe are invited of course... ;)
-
I love it when a good plan comes together.
Count me in.
-
If we are going to do this event around Halloween, we should definatly have everyone wearing a costume. :)
-
Basically, count down until June next year, when we should do the week-long PEELathon, and my limey-ass will be back on your shores.
Until then, can't make it, sorry.
-
Make it July so I can make it, pwease! I break up 7th July (ooh, ominous date!). Alternatively the half term in 29-May to 2-June.
And yes, if that's on, I'm well up for a week.

Can we decorate every room in the house?
This could be very cool, don't really know what our plans are yet for this year.
Online versions of my past parties are
2002 here (http://forums.eidosgames.com/showthread.php?t=8555&highlight=halloween) (pic links are gone now)
2003 here (http://forums.eidosgames.com/showthread.php?t=26191&highlight=halloween) (pic links are gone here, too, but you get the gist)
and
2004 here (http://forums.eidosgames.com/showthread.php?t=46239&highlight=halloween) (still has the pix)
We used to throw parties in our old brownstone where we had upwards of 300 people on some years. We would start planning these parties in mid August. We decorated every inch of three floors and the back yard, yet from out front you couldn't tell there was a party going on.
I miss my dungeon! Waahh!
Give me a few days and I'll try to update the pic links for 02 and 03.

Needless to say, it was the white powder that turned him off.

I think we should have the next PEELathon in Las Vegas. THAT would be awesome. Relatively cheap rooms and you can't beat a good buffet for $9.95. Airfare isn't that bad either. Any feedback?

Second.
EDIT: Flood control at 120 seconds sucks.
EDIT EDIT: Hummm... that first one wasn't actually an edit, come to think of it.

Yeah... Vegas would be easy for me to get to, but I don't go to Vegas anymore. And not for the reason you think.
But maybe it's time I started going again.

If I can get a cheap deal, and someone finds a bargain hotel, then yeah, I'm up for that.
-
Sure, go for it. I even got a book on Las Vegas in the event of a possible trip there - it was psychosomatic I tells ya! Of course I'll be dull and want to go around national parks and stuff, and the Grand Canyon of course. Plus I'll be 21 then so WEEEEEEEEEE.
Quick check on Expedia and flights London -> Las Vegas, 10/7-17/7 are from Ģ699 1 stop (in Minneapolis) or Ģ727 direct. Direct flight time is over 10hrs. A similar flight to Newark is Ģ567 for comparison. Flights + Hotel start from Ģ900 for tacky or far away places, compared to the Ģ700 for New York.
Sooo..... :)

Of course! Except, the Grand Canyon takes hours and hours to drive to, so you know. It's not really a hop, skip, and jump away. There's always the Hoover Dam...
Plus I'll be 21 then so WEEEEEEEEEE.
Me tooooo!!! Celebration! Drinking! Gambling! More drinking! Possibly a stripper! And drinking!
-
Awwww...
Can we wait a few years for a Vegas PEELathon. I would totally want to be 21 for this...
-
I don't care either way. I wouldn't mind waiting either, actually, for money's sake... New York is pretty damn fun too, and there's always Atlantic City a train ride away for gambling.
Now, let's talk about something more recent... Is anyone up for a November Peelathon like last year? If so, we should start thinking about that...
-
Actually, yeah, I'd rather wait too, we could do a week-long NY/NJ PEELathon and take a trip to Atlantic City as part of the week.
-
I'd totally be up for a fall PEELathon.
On the last page, the idea was thrown around about a PEELathon Halloween Party at my house, sometime in early November or late October.
That and another weekend around NYC would be great...
-
Fine, I'll make my own Grand Canyon, with blackjack, and hookers.
Oh yeah, I'll drive too. :D
-
Of course, count me in on the fall PEELathon. I just hope I'm not working like in June. I was sooo jealous of all of you having fun and me videotaping. :(
So, NY/NJ is of course cool with me and so is Las Vegas. I go there a few times a year for business so I'm very familiar with the "sights". Of course Chez Nasty is available for everyone.
-
For those of you who went last time, specifically the ones that had to fly in and stay in a hotel, how much did you wind up spending total? Plane tickets + hotel + food?
-
Maybe we should postpone the Vegas thing a year, and do New York again, eh?
-
I'm all about a Fall Peelathon. I missed the last one and I miss my peeps! Also, no Halloween parties. You are supposed to be coming to my wedding on October 29.
-
Well, we dont need to have it on the the 29th or the 31st, we could have the fall PEELathon the weekend after halloween and have the costume/halloween party/bbq thing on Friday...
-
Fall Peelathon! I'm up!
Also...October 29?! Woooo!!
Also also...Joysauce if you go can I ride with you? I got lost downtown in my own city once :(
-
We'd love to have ya up here Jicannon. Good to hear you can make it this time. :)

DrThunder Expense Report
Airfare - $300 or so
- Round-trip, nonstop from Detroit to Newark
My share of a hotel room - $70-80
Jesse's share of the hotel room - $70-80
Food - $45 maybe
- I can't remember what we each paid at Carmines, I'm assuming it was in the neighborhood of $25
- Breakfasts were complimentary
- This does not include the money I should have given to Mom Rules to help defray the cost of the PastyQ
Avatar T-shirt - $16
Ground transportation - $10
- Does not include whatever I chipped in for riding in the Crashmobile (it wasn't enough, I'm sure)
-
Archie's Expense report from the UK
Return airfares and hotel (single room, double bed) ~$1200
Lunches ~$20
Dinner $20
Metro $10
Taxis $40 (80 split with Doug)
Gifts and assorted $100
Grand Total = $1390
(about Ģ850)

Mine would never be an accurate picture, because my plane tickets and hotel were free. But I took $500 and didn't spend it all (I had $175 left).
-
Venus, it probably won't be that much for you. If you take some crazy-ass night flight, I'd say about $300 roundtrip flight, and if you share a room, maybe $35-$40 a night. Factor in some food, say, $100 and whatever spending money... If you play it right, no more than $700.
Not that I want you to come or anything :p
-
I don't think I spent any more than that even with the fancy-ass rental car.

As for what Nix said, I'll just make a honeymoon out of it. Then later I can tell all the virgin peelers all about how I did the nasty in the pasty. :evillaugh:

Actually, prices are coming down nicely here. It's down to $2.69 now.

Well, good. You can send some of that up my way.

Bear in mind Mr Xorbo that $1390 was about 2 weeks wages for me at the time. Pros of working 50 hour weeks I suppose.
Cons: Working 50 hour weeks.
EDIT: Maybe three weeks.
-
Yeah... Vegas would be easy for me to get to, but I don't go to Vegas anymore. And not for the reason you think.
Stipper debts?
Also, I want to go to Vegas. Damn you all.

i might head to vegas in late febuary..... squee!..
-
OK, so let's start talking about the much closer, non-international PEELathon (unless, of course, you non-American PEELers want to come, you're always welcome...)
We should set a date so people can at least check if they can come. I was thinking early November, but maybe not too early if Joysauce and Fishy are going to be on honeymoon. Any thoughts?
-
Early November would be fien with me, and it'd allow us to tie in our halloween party idea as well.

Yeah, 50 hour weeks... I'm no stranger to those. Or to 60 hour weeks. Money's good, thing is, you can't do it forever, not having a life begins to wear on you.

Hey, Doc, guess where I am? Bloomfield Hills. I never realized this was so close to you until I looked on a map and recognized town names. Shoot me an email this weekend maybe. canned_eggs at hotmail.

Thought of one thing, around the New York area (assuming PEELathon V is there) what is there in the way of National Parks and what not. Obviously I'm thinking of what's in region of a drive out of the city, since your National Parks are supposed to be quite awe-filling.
And yeah, I'll dump you for that day if you're not interested <other random British people going to the States perhaps>
-
Well, there's always the statue of liberty or Ellis Island, which would certainly provide some hilarious photo ops.
I cant think of anything MAJOR in the way of parks in the NYC area...
-
DUH!!!! CENTRAL PARK??? Nasty...You know how beautiful it is.
-
Well, there's Island Beach State Park :p
High Point is really nice, up by me.

Well, there's the Catskill mountains a couple hours north of NYC. Birthplace of the legend of Rip Van Winkle! A few hours north of that you have the Adirondack mountains which have the 46 high peaks, and about a million nice hikes. Several hours west you can find the Great Lakes and Niagara Falls (The Canadian side of the falls has the better view). Were I you though, I'd stick with NYC. We do have great parks over here, but there's a ton of not-great land in between them and the amount of time you're probably going to be here means you won't want to be driving several hours. And all the really cool stuff (excepting Niagara and the Great Lakes) is way out west - grand canyon, Yellowstone national park, the Rocky mountains, Painted Desert, Denali national park, etc.
-
It is looking increasingly likely that my family are going to go to Vegas for my 21st (February next year) and as such the Grand Canyon, Hoover Dam, and perhaps Zion and Bryce Canyon National Parks will be on the schedule then. Denali (or is it McKinley?) , Yosemite and Yellowstone are definately on my "to do" aswell at some point.
I'll keep looking into logistics, and thanks for the help guys :)
-
Archie2K... Remember just 'cause the Grand Canyon is only like an inch away from Vegas on a map, it is actually a 4 hour drive (each way) from Las Vegas. This is exactly the reason why I've been to Las Vegas probably more than 10 times and still have NOT been there.
It is such a totally cool place though. We (the Pasty Clan) have even vacationed there. Mr. Nasty and I even renewed our wedding vows a couple of years ago with Nasty Pasty and Bender_Waffles as our attendants. I hate to disappoint all of you but... Elvis was NOT involved.

Denali National Park, though the mountain is technically named McKinley. I should know, I studied the park (and much of the rest of the state) in an ecology course.

You know what place I really liked? The Grand Tetons. Anyone ever been there?
Not that that would be a good place for PEELathon. :nono:

I'm still pushing for the Europeans to have an AGI on Tromso/Hammerfest, Norway or Nuuk, Greenland. I was widely shouted down.

How aboot Canada, eh?

Yeah! Churchill, here I come! "Polar Bear Capital of the World" ya know. (I want some evidence for that, hell Svalbard has as many bears as people.

Alright, well, what weekend CAN'T you do it? Aren't you getting married or something? :p The first weekend in November would likely be best for me, the second one is freakin' busy.
And who else is up for a weekend in the dirty? (With lots o' trips to the City, of course...)

Yeah, polar bears.... the largest most vicious and aggressive species of bear in the world, known to hunt man as a food source.
But it's so cute!
-
Oh you don't need to tell me that. If the flare gun made the bear run away after a close encounter on Amsterdamoya, it made me shit my pants too.
Still cute though.

The snow looks awesome in that picture.

Why not? It's a beautiful place and Yellowstone isn't far away. It is a little bit out of the way for most PEELers though.
I camped overnight in The Grand Tetons in a "tent" cabin (read canvas thrown over a metal frame). Unfortunately for me, my sleeping bag was only rated to 50 F and it got colder than that at night. The other people in there were all toasty in their sleeping bags while I froze my ass off, getting up every couple of hours to throw wood on the ineffective iron stove. Going over to the bathroom in the middle of the night while having to worry about running into a bear was also fun. That stuff makes for fun memories though. I plan to go back there at some point in the future because it's so pretty.
-
It is really pretty, and Yellowstone is nice... Love the mud pots and all that, but it definitely is out of the way for almost everyone.
-
As far as Halloween goes, if my neighbors throw
the party they usually throw every other year,
I may have to attend that one first and foremost, depending on which day it is.
So I'm keeping my Halloween options open.
As far as stuff to do just outside of NYC:
Sleepy Hollow is pretty cool.
Best during Fall Foliage season, though.
Sleepy Hollow Cemetary alone is worth the trip.
And there's Stoke's State Forset in Northern New Jersey,
and Bear Mountain State Park in Harriman NY just off the Northern Jersey border.
I won't be doing any flying traveling for a while.
I'll be upstate for Thanksgiving. (The Vaudeville band reunion is out but I will be playing on Thanksgiving with another band by the name of Fright for their 25 year reunion)
Planning a 10 day trip to Roma in February.
-
Where's Femjesse? The two of us should have a Philadelphia PEELathon...with liquor and blackjack and hookers.

Well, the first weekend in November is bad. Too close to wedding and stuff. Is the first weekend in December cool or even sometime in January or February? I hear that ABF will be in NYC in February.
-
Ahhh, Philly! The City of Robotly Love!
-
That'd be alright with me, it just depends what weekend. I need to make sure I'll be able to get home, so I need advance notice. Can anyone else who is planning on going post here and give some input on when would be good?

Driving up to NYC in the winter is scary! There's snow and ice and crap! And then you walk around and freeze to damn death from the sleet.
But yeah I'd go, assuming I'm out of the hospital by then. I'm planning on getting fired, so time off wouldn't be a problem, although my car is gonna get repo-ed so I might need to get a ride with someone.
-
I'd rather go in the Fall, but I'd still go in the Winter...
And seeing as how I'm likely riding with Joysauce I'll agree with whatever she says date-wise.
Not that I wouldn't agree with her otherwise <_<
>_>
-
Needless to say, me and my house is open for anytime of the year. :)
I was originally thinking that the first or second week of November would be good (like it was last year), but seeing as how Kloudes wouldnt be able to make it, we should consider other possibilities...
-

You're posting! Hooray! :D Those nurses can't keep you down, huh?
I knew I shoulda done that "Get well soon VF!" Thread...
Anyways, this year is out (if that was ever going to be factor) and the further into next year the better the chance of me making it. Go ahead and do one for November, and I'll see you next year.
-
Well, it really sucked going all over the country and being within a mile of a bunch of PEELers and not seeing anybody. Crap. At least I got to talk to Doc and the Cap'n on the phone.
Well, I'm down for the next East Coast one if it's not too soon. I'm under pressure to move back to New Jersey, so that would make things easier. The pace I move at, it ain't gonna happen anytime soon, though.
-
You are quite the traveler, Mr. Eggs.
How would people feel about going Thanksgiving weekend? It would absolutely freakin insane in the city, though... :hmpf: Maybe the weekend before that?
-
That'd be fine with me. Didnt we do it November 17th last year?
-
Right, well just to be irritatingly over organised, here are a list of dates I can do:
1 April - 17 April
27 May - 4 June
8 July - about 10 September
Could any other Europeans interested post if any of these dates are reasonable. The USAians keep warning us of the risk of ultra heat during the summer months that fries my poor pasty English skin, however of course if any of the holiday dates don't match up with those in the States then so be it.
The Euro plan right now is to book a week and use one of those weekends as the PEELathon whatsamajig, then just spend the other few days as a regular holiday, so beer and hookers. Thoughts?
-
The heat in New York isn't so much skin-frying as par-boiling. 100% humidity, but you can't see the sun for the haze.
I could be in NYC around Thanksgiving, but not actually on Thanksgiving. Plus the Cap'n will be upstate then, so it would be a half-assed PEELathon at best.
Halloween is probably too soon for me to want to go back.
-

I'm happy with any of those dates. However, I'm still hoping to do next year for a week. Will that fit in with your plans?

27 May - 4 June
Sounds good to me.

Yeah, one week is good. Anyone other Euros looking to hook in on this?

I'm interested, i'll say that. Now whether i can do a whole trip to America is another thing, but if this looks to be a good, well planned event (and holiday), i'll see what i can do. Hell, i'm not taking a gap year and i finish my A2s this year. I have my own savings and it's more than enough, however i'll only be 17/18 by then.
Term dates:
1st April - 17th April
27th May - 4th June
18th July - 18th August*
I don't know the last dates as this is my last year at college and first year at Uni. I'll probably finish earlier than the 18th (But that's the confirmed last day), and i don't know when Uni starts, but it's late September.
There's also holiday plans with my family, but if this gets organised first (You've got months), then that shouldn't be a problem.
Hello USAians!
*EDIT: I've changed it to the August date as i need to get my A2 results and do the whole Uni-application stuff ASAP.

Say, Philadelphia isn't half bad. And slightly less driving than New York. I'm in!
Maybe we can all catch an Eagles/Redskins game or something. And Nixorbo and Jeff can argue about who's the best coach of all time: Andy Reid or Joe Gibbs.
-
I like the May-June dates.
I don't think I'd go in November unless I can get someone to agree to hug up on me and keep me warm :shiver:

Don't forget, if you're still in Ithaca for the weekend, we're playing Elmira on Thanksgiving night. (as Fright).
There's even the slight possibilty that Eggs may head up, too. It's still all kinda wait and seeish.

Phillie does sound good...less driving = less gas = less money I owe Joysauce = something about having more money for illicit activities

Everyone else here seems to be asleep at the wheel. usually that kind of offer from VF gets about half a dozen takers in the first five minutes here.
I guess since nobody else is man enough to come to the lady's aid, I'll have to make the sacrifice and share mine own body heat. I have the right coat for it too - enormous, long, and warm.
Actually, I like the idea of May or June better too. We just went a few months ago and it looks like the biggest proponents of this meet are the people who didn't come to the last one and are now jonesing for their Peelcon fix.
-
Guys I dont know if I can come to this one. I am taking some college school classes this january until May. If we can do it late May or June than maybe I can come?

I wouldnt mind going to Phillie. I've been there a few times before, and it'd be nice to visit somewhere close to NY, but different...
-
Ah bugger, i just realised that May-June is right in the middle of my exams. However, if all goes to plan, that shouldn't be a problem (As long as i don't have a jetlagged flight back and then an exam or something!).

Good point. They shoulda pulled their fingers out of their asses and made it to the last one. Except Venus and Eggs, they were there by proxy.
-
I should amend that thought - It's the people who didn't make it last time, combined with those who live so nearby they don't need to make time off requests and plane flights and multi-hour drives hotel reservations.
-
Yes, come to Philly.
We, like NY have Chinatown, a subway system, Italian areas, the scary Harlem-esque region, and placed to be tattooed or pierced.
Also, a museum of medical oddities and a store called Condom Kingdom.
-
New York has Condomania. And Pink Pussycat...
Er... furthermore... It's not like anyone's twisting anyone else's arm to have a huge one in November, nor will it be in lieu of a later on in May-June, which I'm all for.
-
...and you DIDN't take us to these places?

We weren't anywhere near the West Village. :) Next time, my friend, next time.

Yeah, I'm not calling you all illiterate babboons here. I just begrudged the fact that I'll be stuck here for the next two and a half years if my apprenticeship is OK'd... Of course I want that to happen, but why does it have to be so restricting?

Right, so...
Presumably we should get a flight back that lands on Sunday morning at the latest because me and slater may possibly have exams on the monday which are kind of non-missable, so looking for a quick search on expedia shows that flights from LHR (London Heathrow) to EWR (Newark) out 27/05/2006 in 03/06/2006 cost Ģ497 on Continental Airlines. For some reason returning on 02/062006 or 04/06/2006 is about Ģ40 cheaper.
Alternatively going straight through Continental themselves reveals a smaller choice of flights but they are the same price for all returning dates - $783 return. My bet would be, go through Continental booking for the outward bound Continental 8221, 1600, 27/05/2006, inbound Continental 8222, 2125, 03/06/2006 (returns next morning), total cost $891 with taxes.
Staying at the Ramada Jersey City a la last year for seven nights in a basic room will be $112 per night for a single, or $118 per night for a double - and note this is advertised as two double beds, not 1 double with lots of mirrors a la Melll and Sammy :p. Assuming two people share the total cost is $826, so that gives a grand total of $2610 for two people, or at current exchange rates:
Ģ731 per person
Alternatively, booking the whole thing through Expedia, you can get United Airlines 905, 1325, 27/05/2006 LHR to JFK (John F Kennedy International) out, UA 956, 1850, 03/06/2006 JFK to LHR, and the recommended hotel is the 28 story Milford Plaza which is described as six blocks from Times Square and the reception looks spiffy, again sharing flights and hotel rooms. Total cost:
Ģ782 per person
Thoughts from everyone? Other than my anal retentiveness of course
-
Okay, my final thought is that it should be in philly of may next year.

Hey, don't go changing, I like that amount of preparation, so keep it up fella!
All of that sounds fine to me.
While you're on this tip, wanna find out how much it'd cost to take us to Philly then?
-
We're looking at very similar prices, perhaps slightly cheaper, and certainly no more difficult to get to. Flights would be either BA67 out (1130, 27/05) LHR to PHL, BA66 back (1900, 03/06) OR BA69 out (1630, 27/05), BA66 back (2130, 03/06) OR US Airlines 99 out (1230, 27/05) LGW to PHL, USAir98 back (2025, 03/06).
Hotels to stay at... recommendations? For Ģ766 per person I've got a nice looking 3.5star Sheraton resort eyed up... but then I like my luxury, but am willing to go on a budget.
Also, Philly has teams in the four major sports so Melll can still keep his hope (maybe) of going to a US pro-team game (they're really expensive I hear). The 76ers, so named for the year 1776 when the Declaration of Independence was signed there, hold the ignomy of losing the most times in any single NBA season; 73 losses in the 72/73 season.
If we're making this an aspect of future PEELathons, can I suggest the next one be in Atlanta, the third most dangerous city to live in in the US. Though still not as bad as Columbia where the are 63 murders per 100,000 citizens a year. (The UK rate is 1 per 100,000)
-
Those seem good, it's a shame i don't know the exam timetable, and i have no idea when they are released. At least i'm not the only one limited to those dates ;)
And since (if i can get this through) this would be like a holiday for me, i think i'd be willing to spend money on it (If you like your Luxury, we'll see how far my budget is). Those prices shocked me till they were converted to Ģ though, $2600 looks a lot!

Arc hie - don't overpay for the hotel. Peelcons are all about walking around the city all day anyhow. With a few hours of orgy thrown in afterward.

The 76ers, so named for the year 1776 when the Declaration of Independence was signed there, hold the ignomy of losing the most times in any single NBA season; 73 losses in the 72/73 season.
Philadelphia Phillies (Baseball): Losingest franchise in the history of US Professional sports.
Philadelphia Eagles: Have never won a Super Bowl, have been to 2 since the NFL-AFL merger.
Philadelphia Flyers: Haven't won a Stanley Cup since 1970-something. '76? '77?
Philadelphia 76res: see quoted post.
Actually, if we do Philly, and it's the right time of year, we could take Melll to a Flyers playoff game.

There's a possibility of me putting 1-2 people up in New Jersey if the timing is right. This might ease the budgets of intercontinental travelers, but it's a hour and a half commute into the city for the ensuing hijinks. And like I said, I probably won't be there if it's anytime soon.
And as for Thanksgiving, my sister wants me in DC. Cap'n, this means I probably won't be able to see your show. Poop. We'll have to put one on some time in NYC.
-
Hey guys...long time no see. I'm finally set up in Boston, having moved from Blighty a few weeks back, and just got my various computer gear set up and running. Philly might be possible, depending on my whole time situation, since I may actually be in DC for May through August...so I'm on the fence at the moment, but interested.
-
Like I say, I'm leaving it up to these guys. The difference between a shabby and a half-decent hotel is about Ģ100 and I'm happy to pay that on a holiday, even if all I do there is sleep. Dunno about the others, but this is a holiday for me, doubt I'll do much else in the summer months, 'cept work a lot.
-
If we do philly, and we're there for a week, I'm totally up for seeing the Flyers.
We could toss a coin between Philly and NYC at the moment, I'm happy with either.
Can we run up the Art Museum steps a la Rocky?
-
Phillie would certainly be interesting, if not a bit confusing. I wouldnt mind going there instead of NY, although there certainly ain't anything wrong with that place too.
Then of course, either the first or the last day, you all are invited up to my place for BBQ and Merryment.
-
I want a Philly cheesesteak!
-
I wouldn't mind going to Philly, but I really can't see spending a whole week there... Any chance of splitting it up?
-
Hope you don't mind, but I'm thinking about coming to this as well (somehow) ... it depends on the money situation and all.
-
Just distance wise for me, NY is better, but on the grand scale there's not much in it. Either is fine.

Pfft, tourist.

I don't see why not. We could fly into Philly and see the week out in NY, flying out of Newark to go home.
-
I would like to come too (somehow)

We could take the Death Train (Amtrak)!

Currently I'm a bit down on my money, so I'm still not too sure. It's just this year I've got to save up for university, driving lessons, possibly buying my own car, and possibly flights and spending money to go to Boston. Gah, I dunno yet :hmpf:

I'll get on it tomorrow, that's certainly doable and I'd like to have another PEEL gig that I am involved in if Chez Nasty is open for business. Of course the getting between PA and NJ is likely to be the biggest bone, just because it looks tiny on a map, that's probably the equivalent of driving from Lands End to John O Groats. I'll drive so long as someone brings some decent tapes. :p
K, quick search reveals that the price for a return ticket is Ģ504 with British Airways. BA67/186 and 69/184 hence, no more expensive. Just need to sort out hotels now.
I presume that this means that everyone is doing a week long PEELathon?
-
I wont be able to hotel the entire week, but daytrippin' a few times is good for me.
-
Same here. Depends on the week and classes, but a couple of daytrips is probably what I'll end up doing.

You could always have a mini (as in an few hours in a pub coffee shop) peel meet-up in Boston. Because there's got to be a few of us around here...
-

We can try, but it'll take some of us a few hours.

If we're making this an aspect of future PEELathons, can I suggest the next one be in Atlanta, the third most dangerous city to live in in the US. Though still not as bad as Columbia where the are 63 murders per 100,000 citizens a year. (The UK rate is 1 per 100,000)
Why go to number three when you've got two PEELers and one PEELer with a reasonable excuse to be in the area of number two (poop joke definately implied)? Detroit has casinos, the aforementioned Great Lakes, and...um, murders!
-
Hey, if you go to Philly, you can go to the single most dangerous city in the US - I forget according to hwom - Camden, NJ! It's right across the river!
-
I see no reason to change our destination. NYC is Futurama-related, we know our way around to a certain extent, and NYC is what, one of the 3 most famous/glamorous cities in the world? Philly ain't.
If you guys want to do something new and exciting because NYC bores you, why not a summer trip to Maine's coast instead of going to a second-rate NYC? Maine has tons of outlet shopping and movie theaters for any rainy days, New England architecture and lighthouses (which I love to look at, old New England houses are very cool) beautiful beaches (crowded and not-crowded, boardwalk and non-boardwalk both within driving distance), deep sea fishing charter boats for those of us who want to catch a big fish one day, high quality golf courses (who wants to drive the little cart?!), beach games to play (Frisbee without the police butting in!), famous seafood (lobster, scallops, clams, chowder, etc), and so on. And the advantage to Maine's beaches as compared to say, anything south of NY - no jellyfish problems. And Maine in the summer would allow our college-kids to go, while undoubtedly being less beastly hot than say, Georgia or NYC.
Of course there would have to be a few car rentals, since Pitt and I are probably the only ones who would end up driving our cars there.
So my vote goes for either NYC if we want to do the same old thing again, or something different and not city-based, if NYC bores us. Cause if we're bored with NYC, I don't see how Philly is going to be considered a step up. Except for the people who want to see a Philadelphia team play a home game.
-
I'll leave it up to the majority, but I'm fine with either, or both. I'd still like to spend some time in NYC as I've not got bored of it, and there's still so much more for us to see.
-
Let's all go to DC and sleep over at my house!!!
-
Hey, I'm on speaking terms with your Mom, I'll do that.
-
*huggles Capper* I second that, though it doesn't seem to be the popular opinion. I'll go where others are going but NYC is much more appealing.
-
I'm for the full week in NYC as well. That's mainly due to laziness, of course, as it's simply easier for me to get to Jersey City. So yeah, I'll go to Phili if I'm outvoted, but here's another vote for New York.
Though, an endless slumber party at VFs could be fun... :p
-
Depending on the month, I would vote for NYC as well. I've never been to NY in my life and combining that with a PEELathon seems like a good idea to me.
However, I still have university in june (actually, most of my exams will be there), so if June is completely fixed, I won't be able to come at all.
-
The main arguments against going later in the Summer are the heat and the cost. You're talking an extra Ģ100 for flights in the busier period, but hotel reservations seem to be the same. Quick calculations work out that flights & hotels in NYC (at the Ramada again) would be Ģ863 or 1272.
I'm easy though whatever.
-
Logistically, it's easier for us to go to NYC, so I'll put my name in that hat, for now.
-
If there was a vote, I'd go for NYC, for purely selfish reasons...it's a lot easier/cheaper/less time to get from Boston to NYC than to Philly.
-
We also know a cheap, semi-clean hotel near NY... and it only costs $1.50 to get into the city!
-

The trip looks like it most likely be going ahead, as my relatives said that they would be more than happy to have me staying with them. Strange, we never managed the meet up in Bristol, so we'll do one abroad instead ;)

Anyone want a Richmond Peelathon? Fishy is going to have the most awesome bachelor party ever, and PEEL is invited! (in other words: he has no friends and I feel bad for him)
All males are invited. Females are only invited if they are willing to show off their stuff(or if they just want to hang out and play videogames or anything like that). Email me for the address/directions to Jeff's fancy new house.

If we do a gig next year, we'll iron out stuff long beforehand, so that we could actually play stuff other than bungle through a few beatles covers, which is what I did, I barely was aware of what I was doing.
Molly? Richmond. I looked into flights, and it is cheaper, but doesn't Jeff hate us all now?
