I know I'm violating most rules of my own forum by creating another topic for AGI. My question is, what the heck happened to an european summer agi, everyone seems to be preoccupied with going to america and such that our beloved original seems to be forgotten. If by any chance I missed a topic on a AGI5, I will hang my head in shame ;)
Anyway, are there people interested in having a european AGI this summer? I'm sure not everyone is going to America ;)
-
I want to go to one, i think there were only very vauge plans for one so far.
Bear in mind i may not be able to leave the UK...
-
MMMEEEEEE!
Code and alena would also be interested.
-
I like to know is the one for Chester still going ahead?
-
I'd suggest IF we'd have one in the UK, it'd be London, or some other fluffy place in europe :)
-
Depending on the date, I would be up for it.
London would be okay, as would be Amsterdam. Or how about Cologne?
At least I wouldn't have to travel as far then.
-

Who knows, i've told my parents about meeting various Internet people now. Perhaps i'd be allowed to meet you elsewhere in the world. But i don't have a job, although i do have some money, it's awkward for me to book tickets, flights, hotels etc.
-

Antwerp and or Ghent (Screw Brussels! ), but that would mean that we would have to arrange things :p I won't be able to start doing this until after June 10th. But I got a credit card now ^_^
-
I don't really have a preferred location in where in the world, and it doesn't have to be in Belgium, london or amsterdam (I'm sure belgium is a city!) :p
-
I'd be up for an AGI, as long as it's not too far away (ie: not Greenland), it's doable, and it's well after NY.

Oh, and as long as it's before September too, then I'd love another AGI this summer :)

Before August 11th.

I rest my case.

No...

[still stupid]How does it differ from PEELathon? or is it the same thing, just a variation of the title?[/still stupid]
-
AGI = Europe (don't know what the Aussies call theirs)
PEELathon: USA
-
[enlightened]Ahh okay, thanks. I think we were creative and had a PEELathon Ia and IIa or something like that. Well enjoy![/enlightened]

Difficult for me, I've got most of my holiday dates used up going to the states and on my other holiday, part of which is in Greenland. No shit, Melll. I'll let you know if it's a reasonable venue with its 0.2 people per sqkm.
However if it was doable, choose the date I'll see what I can do, I'm up for London, North England, or even Germany, Holland, Belgium, maybe Denmark. I'd back up Spiff with Koeln since I went there before.
What happened to Reading Festival GI?
-
It went the way of the dustbin when Reading and Leeds both sold-out in 0.000003 seconds.
-
I managed to get a Sunday ticket. Iron Maiden are headlining, Dresden Dolls second on the Carling stage (who rocked a trendous amount supporting NIN), then Bad Religion play the Astoria on the Monday. I could cry.
*insert your own joke about how terrible my music is here*
-
Just to make one thing sure, the european one was FIRST
-
And no one died! (Although there were some near MIAs)
-
I'm in. What do folks mostly get upto in London? there's camden, trocadero and of course tonnes of pubs, shops, parks etc.
Can't really start thinking about AGI stuff until uni is done and I've moved back to the south in a weeks time :) Tor is planning on coming over in July but no dates fixed yet.
We could be backpacking tramps round loads of euro places (reminds me, there's a big hitchhikers guide exhibit might be worth it)
-
hmm... London is beginning to become a bit overdone :p
-
I agree. I think we should have a mainland-AGI. And again, I propose Cologne.
Or Frankfurt, that would also be okay.
-

I've never been to an AGI in London, you lot always organised them when i was on holiday and i fucking live here!
-
I talked to some friends, and they're interested in going to london with me :)
So I vote london :p and against Cologne
-
Cologne would be fine.
London only as a last option.
Edit:
WTF slim just did a 180° ?
And he's bringing friends?
*sigh*
Well, at least I know how to get there. I prefer the Eurostar, unless anyone has a better idea. Where does Ryanair depart from, if you're flying with them that is? I'm not goin to Charleroi airport.
-
I'm not flipflopping! and I said I might bring friends :p they're nerds!
-
Tell your friends the hookers in Cologne are cheaper than the ones in London.
-
but Cologne is germany... and they speak german in germany!
-
Nah, the accent in Cologne is so horrible it doesn't really resemble German anymore, so don't worry about that.
-
also, we sold cologne to the french last month
-

From what I can remember from the last London meet (October-ish 2003? Or was there one later than that?), pubs, pubs, and pubs. :)
Well, I'm as per usual I'm up in Edinburgh all of August (so if anyone's there for the Fringe Festival for a day or so, give me a bell and I'll blag you some free tickets), so you can probably count me out...
-
After the last London meet (March 2005) ;) I'd totally be up for going around Camden again.
Plus, we gotta do Aslates Camden makeover.
-
We should do more other activities besides pubbing. The science museum was a good idea the last time. Come on, London is big enough and has attractions enough.
-

Then send me on a train to Bluewater :p
EDIT: On the "other attractions", i've previously suggested things like the London Eye. That might be something different to do.
-
...and make sure he's wearing a hoodie :)
I might be interested, but like I said - depends on the date. I think I remember someone priced up a private cabin for the London Eye in 2003...
-
...which was outrageously expensive. I seem to remember.
I'm all for whatever, as long as we get to dress Aslate up in the metal-plated wastecoat and a pair of black cavernous trousers.
..Oh, and get him a tattoo. :p

I was "Hoodieboy" in the pub and on the tube. I was also sweating to death in that thing.
-
Yeah, but you looked cool! :p

Didn't i scare a few old people? I couldn't see anything on that damned tube journey, i was grabbing onto the pole for my life!
-
Can i bump this? It's Summer and we're getting close to being too late [/are too late] to arrange anything!
-
If you're doing it somewhere along the line of August I might be coming too, even if I'm not PEELing as much as I used to (which is almost none at all).
All depends if I have to take another shots at some tests...
-
Well AGI2 ended with a tail off "Next time in Amsterdam" and that happened.
AGI4 ended with Wayne and Samy's promise to go to NEw York. That happened.
In the States we elected to sign off with "Next time in Jerusalem"...
-
I'm surprised as we didn't come up with the idea earlier ;)
-
Ok I have been thinking about when will the next UK AGI will be. Last time we were going to meet each other in Chester this summer. I am wondering if this plan is still going ahead? If not how about in Liverpool?
-
I'm easy, I'm all out of holiday for the rest of the year, so it'll be restricted to a weekend. Anything which requires a short drive, and something fun will be fine by me.
Bags not organising. :p
-
Damn, and I was about to suggest Frankfurt again because I live rather close and I'm pretty much done moving out, so one or two people could already crash at my place.
-
I'd love to do one in Germany (at some point, definately) but I'm stuffed for this year, sadly.
-
DetmoldDetmoldDetmoldDetmoldD etmold!!! :D
:p
Anyone fancy doing another London meet like we did with the Irish whatnots - only without the Irish whatnots?
Who wanna raid Camden again basically? :D
-
detmold would be nice... quite close to where i live and they have one of the best beers in the world!
Detmolder Landbier
-
I'd love to do Camden again. That'd rule. We need more PEELers this time though.
Edit: Especially girls.
-
I want to come along

You're paying for hoodies!
Note: I'm on holiday from the 20th August to the 1st September, then back to school. So it has to be between now and the start (Or on a weekend after that) if i can make it.
-
Lemme just suggest this (or throw it out to anyone in the area), but I might be in the Frankfurt area in late November/early December with TheNamesNick. More specifically, we'll be hotelling in Kassel.
We've lightly been planning a trip to Germany to see the sights and hang out with TheLesbianLeela. It'd be cool if we could meet up with some other PEELers in the week we'd be there.
-

Ok, but it has to be Cradle Of Filth.
I'm restricted to a weekend anyway, so that'd be cool to do it while you're off in the summer. Not the last weekend in August though, that's Reading/Leeds festival.
First weekend in September?
-
Good by me. I'll be off work and college by then, so any time would be good. And I'll be back with thousands of photos to bore you with. :D
-
Yeah first weekend of September sounds good.
-

September 3rd / 4th? Sounds okay, technically back in term time, but it's so early and we only go in for 10 minutes on the Friday.
-
OK, September 3rd/4th. Camden, London.
We'll wait for a few more replies for setting it in stone.
Can we do the Germany one early next year?
-
Camden?
Mmm...
Germany would also be nice
-
Perfect September is my month and I would love to come along. I am going to start saving.

Kassel? That's like a one hour train ride (um... for free in my case, because I'm a student, but never mind that) from where I live!
You could come to my hometown as well though for a one day trip or something. :p
Apart from that: Keep the news coming please. This sounds interesting.
And early next year sounds okay to me.
-
September 3rd/4th is good - extremely good, because I'm actually moving out of the UK on the 6th. Which also means I'll probably be up for one day only, since a) I'm skint, and b) I've got to actually clear out all my stuff at some point.
-
That weekend sounds fine :)
Shouldn't be doing anything.
Groovy :D

Criticism of the above law (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/scotland/4693761.stm)
Personally I think it's a vast over-reaction to classify psilocybin as Class A and that the illegalisation will only see people take back roads to find drugs that are more easily concealable and less hassle to prepare, LSD for example, which is about 1000 times stronger than psilocybin, dose for dose and has a low tolerance threshold. Psilocybin is essentially impossible to averdose on, like cannabis and ecstacy. However I dont want this to turn into the drugs thread, so, hoteling again? What was that hotel you stayed at last time sir Wayne?
-
The Hampstead Britannia Hotel (http://www.britanniahotels.com/hotel_home.asp?Page=98), just up the road from Chalk Farm Tube station.
Edit: Now with added link!
Edit II (The Revenge!): Camden Lock Hotel (http://www.activehotels.com/servlet/xmlbrochure/index.do?hotelid=104661&day=&month=&year=&trkref=UK2&subid=bbdinfoonl&numrooms=&numnights=&language=&mode=) - this place is cheaper.
Double Room - £69 (per room per night)
Twin Room - £69 (per room per night)
Single - £54 (per room per night)
If anyone wants to split the cost of a twin room, that'd be cool. I'd be looking at checking in on Friday night.
-

Well really the only thing possibly keeping me from going is if Nick can't go, or if I dont have enough money, so I'll try to give you guys updates on the situation...

Meh. I knew that. I can drive for less than an hour or take public transport, and get these shrooms right over the Dutch border.
-
I won't be able to make the first week in September AGI.
Term time + the long trip down to London to make in a day (I wouldn't be able to stay overnight) = b0rk.
I may or may not be down in London that weekend at the Globe, I can't remember if we're going in September or October. Even if I am, the close timing wouldn't leave a slot to sneak off (We go, see the play and go back home in one day.). The parentals wouldn't want me going off in London alone anyway. And no, you can't stalk me.
Eh, have fun guys.
-
I doubt I'll be going, we'll see nearer the time.
-
Bump.
This is the extent of my organisation.

-
Well, i'm sure i'd be up for room sharing, as it'll be a lot more fun and retract from having to leave at 11PM.
-
Hey
I just posting to see if there is any updates and who is coming? the thread seems to be dead a little
-
I'm up for doing it, however, we're not getting a huge response from people who may be willing to come. Perhaps we can make it a date which may be more favourable?
-
I'm in, other usual suspects; Samuel? Doug? Euro guys? Really we're not full of terrorists. Don't believe the tabloids.
I'd be up for splitting a twin room definately.
-
I'm in, and splitting is highly preferable.
-
count me in, anyone wants to share a room with your administrator, and possibly make funny remarks at night which can result to custom ranks?
-

God damn lucky Europeans...
-
I'm willing to come and I'm OK with sharing a room. First weekend of September, wasn't it?
Who's booking?
-
So we've got hotel patrons;
Melllvar
aslate
Archie2K
SlimmyCGEF
ZombieJesus
Others? Confirm, or be fired.
-
I am going to see I can book a hotel room at the weekend or next week. I think t moment I am the only female who confirmed that I might come along so I guess I am going to have a single room
-
Guys, I'm very lazy, so...
What's the price for a hotel room?
Also, Sept 3/4, right? Who is coming (apart from the hotel patrons, I can see that list)?
I'm thinking about coming, but I'm not quite sure yet.
-
Put me down as hotel patron type person :)
I'm happy to share a room with whoever is happy to share a room with me. :D
-
I may pop down for a day trip, or similar, I haven't decided yet. I'll unlikely be staying the night in the hotel though, so I'm not a patron :)
-
I am just wondering Coilette if you do to come down would you like to share a room with me? we don’t have to pay a lot of money for a single room then
-
Right, I've booked a twin room at the Camden Lock Hotel (see previous page for link) for Friday (2nd) and Saturday (3rd) night. Whoever wants to share, owes me £69.
Eyethankewe.
-
Juliet, it'd be cheaper for me to get a train return ticket at only £20 compared to £35 or so, I doubt I'd be staying for the whole weekend either.
-
Damnit, I'd love to come guys (and I'm even able to get airfare for only 99p at RyanAir), but I'm busy Saturday 3rd, and Sunday is my birthday. So gotta sit this one out.
Besides my passport is expired and I dooubt I can get one in 3 weeks.
Next year in Jerusalem!
-
I believe you can Teral! :) I really want to see the old school AGI people again, we had such a good time. I remember not understanding a word Teral said, and still I thought he was a very cool guy! AGI1 people unite :)
-
I prefer the Eurostar over a cheap flight. There's a special student tariff, and you end up smack in the middle of London.
-
I can only afford for one night in the hotel Saturday to Sunday and I am going to check the price on to travel there by train
Ok I was wondering if any of the guys from the north are going to London Saturday 3rd September? I will be ok getting there but I am sort of worried that I might get lost looking for the hotel on my own. I thought going with someone or meeting him or her at the London station would be safer.
-
There's only one guy from the north, that's me, he's driving, and he's going on Friday. Sorry Jules.
-
Mind if I take you up on your £69 offer Wayne?
-
Of course not. Sold! To the Abe Lincoln looky-likey.
-
I'll take 12! :D
Cool, safes me having to phone up a complete stranger. :)
Shuddddder...:S
Cheers :)
-
Ok how about any help with directions?
-
I didn't phone up, I reserved online. So I didn't have to speak to any strangers either!
Here's the link for the hotel again:

Oh nuts...well this way's easier anyway :)
Must remember to have £69 on me that weekend - I don't want to repeat the fiasco I had about repaying Lucas :hmpf:
-
If you don't have it, I'll take the payment in another way.... :p
£69 is a rather unfortunate amount. Call it 70 quid, I'm sure you owe me after me subbing you a bit in NY. ;)
-
Double room booked, 2nd September to 4th September. Whoever wants to share say "BUTTSEX!"
-
I'm in!! (if you're the receiver).
-
I'm in for room shares damnit! I'm a student!
-
"BUTTSEX!"
There. I said it first.

Don't talk about that stuff on-line in the open.
I'm not risking anything. Like you said, it's Camden after all...
-
Shite, i just realised he said post Buttsex! Damn my seeing your reply first and assuming you got it :/
-
Damn damn damn... I'm unemployed and quickly running out of monies. Don't know if I can do, but i'd certainly love to. Stamp a 'maybe' on my face.
-
If you don't come, get Anna to write "balls" on your forehead. Then take a picture.
I've decided to get the train. Fuck driving. Plus, I have an arrangement for Sunday. Lunch in London with the soon-to-be-ex missus.
-
Well I have been doing a lot of thinking and I have decided not to go because it going to cost a lot of money for me. Personally I think the hotel rooms are too much especially for a single room. I am hoping to see you guys soon next time and the places are cheaper.
I hope you guys have a nice time in London anyway.
-
Right, it appears i lost that roomshare to ZeeJ!
I need to get roomshares sorted by the 20th, since i leave for my holiday then. Who's available and willing to pay for a 17 year old's room?
*Various fees may be re-embursed in non monetary values, not limited to large volumes of vomit
-
Maybe you get to roomshare with Slimmy and get anally raped for the custom rank?
-

I just tried, he seems to be unable to book rooms. Unless others can book for us (And if he actually wants to roomshare!)...
-
Others can only book rooms if they use a credit card, can't you get your mum to book a room? She can then call them and pay before you check in.
-

You just reminded me that i need to inform my mum about this! I think she might...
-
ok i'm not gonna come, in case anyone is interested in knowing
-
Hmm. Why do I feel addressed. ;)

i have no idea :P

My mum has agreed to paying for the rooms. Everyone is staying in the same place right?

Yup, I expect so. I know I am.

Is she paying for all the rooms? Do you think she'd pay for a plane ticket too?

It'd be so worth the air-fare just to see what you make of Camden.
-

Hi guys, I would be in, however I have serious negitive cash until I get paid in october. (I just bought a car and I spent every last penny I had on it)
-
Right, before i cock this up:
I'm booking for me and Slimmy, at Camden Lock Hotel (http://www.activehotels.com/servlet/xmlbrochure/index.do?hotelid=104661&day=&month=&year=&trkref=UK2&subid=bbdinfoonl&numrooms=&numnights=&language=&mode=) for the night of Saturday 3rd September, and this meet is only Saturday / Sunday? Only 1 night's booking?
-
Hello guys, guess who? Well, I suppose you don't really need to guess, since my name is right next to this message...
Anyway. I'm back in England from a year away in Oz and NZ. I'd love to come to the AGI but considering my lazy nature can someone please summarise what's going on? Who's coming, where's everyone staying, what's the plan (getting pissed I presume?)? Can't wait to see you all again!
-
YAYOMGWTJESUS!!!1
Camden, London. September 3d and 4th. Weekend.
Me, Archie, Aslate, Slimmy, others.
-
...and... AND?!
Yay Mel, be great to see you....
...join uuuuuusssssss! :)
-
So, is there anyone looking to share a room for the night? Anything to cut down on costs!
Or alternatively, someone's house to crash at, or as another alternative, maybe the hotel would consider putting an extra bed in one of the rooms for a fee. Anyone interested in helping me out with this?
-
Does your mate still live in Ealing?
-
Wee! Great to see you again MelBee - just thought I'd add that :D
Yep, I'm coming too. I've mentioned it to TNUK, he may or may not be coming, but he seemed interested :)
-

It is very nice to hear form you again Melbee and how was Australia? You know I said before that I might not come down because I couldn’t afford a single room because it cost a lot of money but I might be able to come down after I read your post. Maybe we could help each other out if you are willing?
Edit: gaah just read the above post. Now I don't know if I want to go or not.
-
Sorry Jules :hmpf:
-
Might wanna hold fire until Rob confirms for definate that he's coming. I think it's doable, as he was very well behaved last time, and remarkably good company.
-
Remarkably good company? Curiouser and curiouser... has the world turned on its head since I've been gone?
@Melll - yup, I still have many friends in London, however if I stay with them that will involve going out with them for the weekend rather than seeing you lot, as I don't think they'd want to come along, and it'd be a bit rude otherwise. This requires some thinking about... I may indeed have to go for the day only if no-one else can help me out.
-
Right, Slimmy wants to know the costs. What's the cost of a double (The site qutes "from" prices)?
-

Ah, good point. What you could do, if all else fails, is come over for the weekend, come out with us during the day, then go out with them on a night, then come see us again for breaky on Sunday morning before we all head off.
@Aslate: 69 quid, per ROOM per night. If you're sharing that's 69 quid each for two nights.
-
Well, I'm sharing a room with 'Slate, so I will be there for the big event.
When and where is everyone meeting?
-
Wait a minute. You would share a room with a guy? I thought guys would share a room together and girls would share a room together.
Meh well I know that nobody would want to share a room with me. I know why and that why I can’t mentioned it.
-
Well, seeing as i had no-one else to share with, it seemed natural to ask Mel as she's also looking for a room. Slimmy may still be going, but he can't decide before i go on holiday and then it's too late.
That and we're all friends. If you really want to feel weird about it, look at our ages.
-
Double posting bumping as it's importanty:
I'm leaving on holiday tomorrow at 2PM and fly at about 6PM, so anyone that might need to contact me be warned of international costs. MelB's got my mobile, although a few of you do. I won't be back till Thursday 31st August, and am free for anything that may be happening on the Friday, so please call me if anyone's doing anything then.
So, contact me ASAP if you need to. I hope to see you lot at the AGI!
-
Have a nice holiday aslate. :D
I think a number of us are arriving on Friday, anyone any ideas for things to do or are we just going to the nearest pub? :)
-
I will try and drop by if I'm not vastly overdrawn by then. Exploring Camden would be awesome, it's been too long
-
I'll be there from Friday, so a friday night in the nearest Camden drinkerie will be a start, then possibly some kind of unspecified meat dish from the market.
-
I'm not coming, completely stoney broke I'm afraid... :(
-
There is still a "slim" chance I might be coming! Get it... Slim! ;) hah hah hah! :p
no seriously :)
-
@Coils: Now I'm sad :(
@Slimmy: Now I'm confused :confused:
-
Coils! Shame! That is a tragedy. :(
Make the next one, please! ;)
-
Well... 'Slate can't possibly be back on Thursday 31st August, as 31st August is Wednesday. But presumably he'll be back... at some point. As for Juli's comments, I don't see why it's strange that a guy and a girl share a room at all.
But on the positive side, see you all on the 3rd ;)
-
Well, I'm not that repressed either, if I'd not agreed to share with Zed, you'd have come in with me.
-
Hmmm I am still thinking about whatever I want to come over or not.
-
Anyone want to share a room with me, I decided to come :p or else i'll have to find some youth hostel...
if so, can someone who knows camden check out if http://www.hydeparkinn.com/ (http://www.hydeparkinn.com/) (the camden hostel) is near your hostel (walking distance)
-
Aw, I'll share a room with the Slim-meister..if he gets me over there ;)
-
Great, Slim!
The Camden hotel you mentioned is just one stop away on the tube so shouldn't be too far to walk, (10/15 minutes maybe?) but on the other hand you shouldn't need to as it's actually closer to Camden itself and all its bars and shopping therein. So, quite well placed.
-
The walk between Camden Town and Chalk Farm isn't that far, just up the road. So it's all good.
-
I think I'll arrive around or after noon.
We need a meet-up hour and place.
-
How about 1pm in front of Chalk Farm tube station? I would say Camden Town, but anyone who'd been there would know that would be a ridiculous suggestion.
First TOTPD in over a year!
-
Camden Town is a ridiculous suggestion why?
http://www.tfl.gov.uk/tfl/pdfdocs/colourmap.pdf (http://www.tfl.gov.uk/tfl/pdfdocs/colourmap.pdf)
Here's a tube map. It says "No entry from the street on Sundays 1300 - 1730 (exit and interchange only)"
V Thanks V
-
No - because it is insanely busy at the weekends. So busy in fact you'd probably be pushed off into the gutter by the surge of people :p It's really not a good place to congregate.
In any case, Chalk Farm is closest to our hotel so I'd recommend it as the best solution all round.
-
Yeah, you get pushed into the gutter by the surge of drugdealers. Then there's the other people....
-
I'm not sure that I can make it to Chalk Farm by 1.
-
good news everyone
I'm going! I'll be there friday, gone monday
-
I've got my train tickets, arriving Kings Cross around 17:30 Friday and leaving 18:30 Sunday (although I have a prior arrangement on Sunday afternoon, so I'll be heading off after check-out).
-
I am not going to make it. I hope you all have a great time.
-
I'm easy whatever. I'll arrive on Friday and sweep up some foreign people if they want to be mothered around London to protect from the evil criminal peoples.
Also, Mel, OMGBBQ! Don't still have my jumper by any random chance? ;)
-
Hey Archie, just to be 100 % sure I'll ask again:
I sleep there in a room with you in the night of Saturday to Sunday, and in the night of Sunday to Monday?
-

yay.. I'll need some mothering around on friday :D
-
I got rooms booked Friday to Saturday and Saturday to Sunday. I'm planning to go home on Sunday night, so can't help eyond that I'm afraid Zeej.
Slimmy, give me an arrival time and place, I'll be there, with blackjack and hookers.
-
So, lets get this straight.
Slimmy is staying over Friday, Saturday and Sunday currently with nowhere to stay at all.
Archie has a room booked for Friday and Saturday (supposedly to share with Zeej).
However, Zeej is only staying over on Saturday and Sunday night, and therefore has nowhere to stay Sunday night.
My crazy solution is this!
FRIDAY: Slimmy can share with Archie
SATURDAY: Zeej and Archie sharing as originally planned
SUNDAY: Zeej and Slimmy can book a room together for Sunday to share (if you guys are friends these days? Hope so!)
How about that? That way no one is alone for any night and we all get to stay in the same hotel, no one has to pay for a room by themselves... everybody wins basically.
Also - woo! Archie! Not spoken to you in so long. And if you remember you told me you'd pick up your jumper from my house when I'd gone! I take it you didn't bother?? I imagine it probably went to Oxford with H & D, who moved out a few months after I left...
-
That sounds doable.
What did we do without you? The words "organise", "piss-up" and "brewery" spring to mind. :p
-
Heh heh.
Zeej: what time are you supposed to be getting into town on Saturday? Chalk Farm is only a few stops from any major train station in London so it should only take you 10-20 minutes.
Also a warning to anyone who hasn't caught the northern line before - to get to Chalk Farm Station you must catch the Northern Line (black one) going north, on the EDGWARE RD branch - if you can't and you end up on one going to High Barnet/Finchley, don't worry, get off at Camden Town, and you can change lines there.
-
Well I DID go there when I was next in Ealing only to find that the person living in said flat had just moved in and had no idea where the previous owners had gone. I inherited it anyways so whatever.
I also agree with your plan.
-
Wait. No. I had it wrong. Sorry.
In that case I can stay Friday night and Saturday night in Archie's hotel room.
Arriving Friday around or after 1 pm at Chalk Farm, leaving Sunday morning or early afternoon. (I still have to buy my Eurostar tickets)
No need for a room for Saturday night to Sunday.
Thanks for trying to arrange stuff, though.
-
Archie: That must have been quite a long time after I left! Let's see, I left in September 2004... H&D left in 2005... heh. Well, I'll ask them when I next go to Oxford.
ZJ: Ah, well then, scrap my 'genius' plan. In that case, I'll let you guys sort out your own plans for Friday, and I (and everyone/anyone else coming on saturday) will meet you all at 1pm Saturday outside Chalk Farm Station as I previously said.
Sorted.
-
Did anyone change mobile phone numbers since last year?
I've got the numbers of:
Archie
Sheep 555
Booze
Samuel X Diamond
Kip
Melllvar
-
i don't have a mobile anymore actually :p
everyone who still has my number can delete it
-
I will arrive in London Waterloo station at 2:25PM, maybe you can give me your mobile number, I have a place to stay on friday, but if archie doesn't have someone to share with on friday, I'll try to call the hostel and change the reservation. I prefer rooming up with peel people over random strangers any day :D
if zeej needs a place, he should just book a room on the same hostel I'm in then for sunday night, it's only 11pounds.
-
Me. Archie. Friday. Saturday.
-
oi! first you said you were arriving saturday! and now you're arriving friday?
-
Any word on my plane ticket yet slim-meister? ;)
-
Originally posted by slimmyCGEF:

That was because I thought that I would have a room on saturday and sunday, with Archie.
-
so you haven't bought your tickets yet??
-
No I have not bought my train tickets yet, as I wanted to be 100 % sure of the days.
-
Mein gott!
It's only in a week's time isn't it? Best get onto that, zeej ;)
Have you bought your tickets slimmy?
Anyway... see you all at 1pm on the 3rd :)
-
Bin dun.
Arriving at Waterloo Station on Friday September 2nd at 11:26
Leaving at Waterloo Station Sunday September 4th at 12:36
I have to be there at least 30 minutes earlier for check-in.
I take it getting to Chalk Farm Station will take less than 40 minutes including waiting?
So. Anyone want to join me for something to eat then? I propose Indian.
-
I've finally booked my train tickets and I get in at 12.15 on Saturday (so in plenty of time to meet you guys at 1pm) - and leave at 5.45pm Sunday. Is anyone gonna be around to that time on Sunday? Archie? Slim?
-
I suggest Zeej and whoever he will meet up with on friday stays around and eats something until I arrive at 2:25PM so we can go to camden together and commence the drinking!
-
Sounds great.
-
I'm good with that. Slim, which tube station will you be arriving at? If Waterloo, I'll make my way down there. Camden and Waterloo are both on the Northern Line so it's easy to get around from there. And who can't love a tube station with "loo" in the title. Tee hee.
-
I just had an idea for East Coast PEELers or anyone else who wants to come. Every year here in Pennsylvania, the biggest paintball scenario game in the world is held. It's called "Invasion of Normandy", and it's a three day paintball battle that reenacts D-Day. There's tanks and rocket launchers and machine guns and stuff. We could make a PEEL team and clean some house. Whattya guys think?
-
*BUMP*
Should be at the top of the list being so close!
Seven days of 'crazy anticipation'.
TNUK, are you coming? Need to know if I should bring my 'special armour'. :p
-
TNUK is a new man now!
-
I'll vouch for that. The last time (and only time) I met him (with Slimmy, and Idan)... he was a cool guy, very well behaved and dressed to kill...
... well... to be killed anyway. I kid, nah he was cool :D
-
Yes, I'll third what's been said already. The one and only time I met him he was a perfect gentleman, ish. Then again he was restricting himself to less than two pints. I am generally well behaved when doing wuch a thing.
-

Hmmm, sounds interesting. Do we need to bring our own equipment?
-
Apparently me and tnuk are in the same hostel :) so I won't be the only PEEL outcast! ;)

Forthed. I have good memories of the Sunday Night in local Drinkerie in Camden last time was a rather civilised affair with good conversation and little inane drunken babble.
It's like we're grown ups! ;)
In other news, Zed, perhaps we should co-ordinate our arrival at the hotel, wanna meet when I'm en-route? I arrive at KingsX at 17:30 on Friday.
-
Meeting Saturday. Me, MelBee, (who else?) 1PM Chalk Farm station on the Northern line
Meeting Friday. When and where please. Archie?
-
What was the name of that pub? The Edinburgh Castle? We should meet there on Friday.
-
I may well meet you at KingsX if that's alright. :)
Don't want to go wandering the Underground too much on my own. I'm likely to take a back-pack, and what with the beard...
Interesting what people think I look like.
You guys = Lincoln\Evil Lincoln
Russian teacher = Fidel Castro
Meri = Chechen
Great.
On the subject of Meri, two weeks later and I may have managed to drag her across with me. I know she'd love to come along again, but they keep falling at just the wrong time :hmpf:
Actually, if I'm staying over two nights, I owe you more than £69 don't I?
-
It's been a while since we've seen Meri, she needs to come to a future meet, or give us her mobile number or something. ;)
Tell her to give us a list of dates and we'll arrange one for then.
-
archie can you give me your phone number?
and other people too
-
I'll give you my mobile number, in exchange for a custom rank.
EDIT: The Canaervon Castle, by the Camden Lock railway bridge seems a good place to meet, we can go along to the other place which was quieter (where me, TNUK and Archie ended up) if need be.
-
I'll get on it... I need to find my phone first... grr.
-
do keep in mind that I Have absolutely NO idea where all these places are :p

Zeej: Meeting Friday, Waterloo station. I'll be around Burger King (it's within the station, big red sign) at around 1.15pm.
Phone number +447748097149
slimmy: can you call me when you arrive? Or shall I meet you also outside Burger King when you arrive?
-
you could stand around where the people from my train arrive with a sign saying "The Pope" (which will be at 2:30...
nah burger king will be ok, I have both Zeej and your number.
-
I arrive 11.30-ish in Waterloo.
-
OK, 12.30 it is. I'll get a sign for both of you. Zeej, any requests on what your invitation sign should say?
-
Fuck. I just checked again and it's 11.30. Stupid time zone.
Invitation sign? Ooh er... Jesus?
In case anyone asks about it, there are Latino people called Jesus.
-
11.30 it is then... that's going to be an early drinking session for me... want to go on a special Archie tour. I can take you through the tube stations of death for example.
-
I'll drop a txt to you when we arrive in London Village and we can hook up in Camden for the evening, non?
-

If anyone asks, just say your parents are Spanish or something. If they still don't believe you, call them ignorant cretins.
One of my friends in first school was called Jesus. Always thought it was Hesus until just recently...
Anyway, yes, now I'm pondering whether to arrive earlier and hook up with Archie, then meet Wayne at Kings Cross, or arrive later, meet Wayne first so we can go and dump our stuff quickly. Not that I think I'll be taking that much, but like I said, don't want to go round London with a backpack for too long...
-
'Sup to you dude. I don't mind either way, might be best to drop your bags before heading out and about. Especially on tubes.
-
Bloody hell, never try and catch up two weeks of disorganised crud! What's the "Idiot's Summary"?
I'm free Friday if i get times and places.
And i need to talk to Mel about the rooms and everything.
-

Once upon a time... there were a bunch of people who decided to meet in London. Some of them were arriving on Friday, and meeting around 1pm. One of them, a fat guy, from the north, was arriving at 5.30pm and then meeting up with his bearded pal before dumping his stuff at the hotel and meeting up with the others for a drink.
Now, also, there's a girl, a pretty one too, she's arriving from Nottingham on Saturday. Once everyone is here, they are all meeting up at Chalk Farm Tube station at 1pm.
Then they all lived drunkily ever after.
-
Just to let you know I AM meeting you at Kings Cross (I've decided) so just so everyone knows, I'll be getting the 15:31 train from Bristol Temple Meads and arriving at Paddington at around 17:00. I'm fairly sure I've got your mobile number, I'll let you know in case anything goes wrong. :)
-
AGI Update:
I got a call from them today at about half five, they were just going into an arcade. From what I could hear, I understand that they all chipped in to buy aslate a "Jesus is a cunt" t-shirt. They all shouted "hats!" and stuff and sounded merry.
I've just checked my phone and I've got a message from aslate sent at 1.35 this morning. Apparently he's "In a nightclub and got my first death threat! Go PEEL!".
Hmmm...
-
...
Dibs on aslates account.
Maybe I can use it like all those other people with two accounts... TEH POWER TO ANNOY!! GRARRS!
cat: next thing you know, he'll be sending you messages in the middle of the night... from the bushes outside your bedroom window.
-
Aslates camden makeover was a complete success! The looks on peoples faces was totally worth it.
Here's to offensive t-shirts and blue hair! :D
-
I would like to see the photos
-
So far i've insulted a Sainsbury's security guard and recieved various death threats from various drunken Irishmen in a club because of one T-Shirt.
-
Home safe and sound - weekend was a blast - cheers again ya'alllll :) :D

Bring on the hat photos.
Well, next AGI anyone that complains about anything has to put a pound in a jar. Then I shall run away with the proceeds. I'll be rich, I tells ya, rich!
AGI6: Nottingham. Not just because I'm lazy and live here, but it became clear that we can't please any of you lot unless things are extremely cheap.
Therefore.
There is a hotel in Nottm opposite the train station, rooms are like, 20 quid. And there are plenty of bars where the pints are only about 1.70, or a fiver for a bottle of wine. Even better I can take you out for a traditional pubby meal - two for a fiver (and it's not wetherspoons!).
What's even better is that Nottingham city centre is very compact so not too much walking or travelling, and it has great nightlife.
Also, it's quite pretty and there's still the option of doing touristy stuff like Nottingham Castle (which I think is free!).
Also, it's in the niddle of the country so easy for everyone to get to, including the foreigners as it's only an hour and a half on the train up from London.
So, any takers?

Oh right I am going to the next AGI
-
MINSK! WHITE RUSSIA, WHITE RUSSIA, WHITE RUSSIA!
No, as I said, Nottingham sounds great :)

Where is there a whistling-and-looking-up smiley when you need one...
-
Yup, I'm up for that.
-
I probably can't be arsed to get to Minsk I'm afraid.
Isn't Aslate back yet? I want photos of hats.
And Zeej, maybe you'll be happy if you come along to Nottingham, as I will take you all to all the cheapest places I know.
(You might have to live with the loud music though :p )
-
I too demand hat pictures!
And Nottingham: I'll consider it. Apparently it takes about two and a half hours from Liverpool Lime Street. I probably wouldn't be able to stay for long, because if I was out all day my sister would ask annoying nosey questions. Bleh. I'll try though.
You guys don't want a 15 year old around ruining your drinking fun, anyway. :p
-
Hey catindisguise if you are going I could come along with you.
-
How about a Christmas meet up?
Well, not on Christmas day, obviously, but around that time.
-
That'd be awesome. I'd really try and go, money and stuff depending.
Juli: If we can sort something out then sure. I may have to travel at strange times due to restrictions and stuff. What about sammy, is he up for the train ride too? Mktai may join us at Crewe if he's going...
Also, just got a call from slimmy and archie. They're still in the pub, and archie's begging for a custom rank or something. I still stand by my statement that he screams like a girly girl. Slimmy and I spent about quarter of an hour wasting archie's phone credit and shouting "hats!". They got everyone in the pub to shout it to me.
-
I also deserve a custom rank for giving everyone a free massage in the pub.
Peel Masseuse!
Although I'll probably just end up being called 'boobies' or something.
-
We had nothing to do with these, we found them in London by the London Eye...

TNUK + Captain's Hat + Camden Market Stallholders = "Ahoy Sailor", "Aye-aye Captain" and "Y-M-C-A"
-
Anymore photos?
-
"Ahoy Sailor", "Aye-aye Captain" and "Y-M-C-A"
repeated by the same guy, I think at least once every other second if I remember rightly...
But tovarish Kapitan did not flinch, showing the same nerves and resolve that will win us our great naval victory against Denma-shush, tovarish kretin :D
-
I just got home (yes at 0206, what of it? :p ), safe and not so sound. Me and slimmy finished our beer, so went out for food and more beer (by this point we were down to drinking supermarket bought beer in the hostel tv room), and then io was promptly not allowed back into the hostel. So now I have three large bottles of Leffe an nothing to do with them.
I am wholeheartedly throwing my weight behind the Minsk Movement. I assure you that the price of vodka easily compensates for the flight ticket. That or Sarajevo.

Another group-shot to be proud of, definately.
Arrived back at 20:45 last night. I left the AGI group at 1pm to go and spend Sunday afternoon with the missus (I couldn't talk her into the London Dungeon, sorry Mel!) Had lovely civilised (unlike the rest of the weekend :p) lunch in Covent Garden, and then (as it was too damn hot) went to trafalgar square and paddled in the fountains. Nice!
-
Glad your afternoon was nice Wayne. :)
As it happened, we didn't go round the dungeons either. Me and Mel wanted to, but we spent a fair while waiting for certain fellows to find their way to London Bridge...

When is tnuk getting unbanned? ;)
Great pics guys, having fun each and every time... such a great tradition!

-
Great pics everybody.
-
Awesome pics. Wish I was there now :(
Queue AGI 6!!!
-
I haven't been able to access PEEL for weeks, using crazy devices right now. The Camden AGI was awesome, had loads of fun :). It's a shame certain folks couldn't make it and I was somewhat quiet. AGIs are an odd experiece - feels like meeting celebrities and your friends in one.
I only took 2 recognisable photos sadly (beer is distracting) and a ddr video.
I think Mel should get "Organising Mistress" many cheers for Mel/Wayne :)
-
Post more pictures! we demand it!
-
By the way, Melllvar, when are you gonna upload pictures from AGI5 and the PEELathon 05' on your site?
Lazy? :p
-
Yeah, lazy. I'm planning a massive update soon. I have the pics I wanna upload already, so yeah, lazy.... sorry. ;)

if it would be in belgium I would organise it and inspect the hotels before people even going there!

Well, make it so...

It's true, I had to make them extra burgers at the PEELathon BBQ after they did that...

looked fun guys, thanks for ringing me during it. nice to see the piccies and the hopefully 'now' tradition of dressing aslate up doesnt seem to be in any danger of going away.

:D
Come back Amy! The AGI wasn't the same without you, so you gotta come again soon. So we're glad you had a small part in it.

Nice to see you posting again Amy :)

-
Well, a lot of the peelers (well, especially the continental ones) seem to think having an AGI abroad next time would be a good idea. And, I'm sure it would, but perhaps in the meantime we could have a mini-meet for UK peelers, as people have had some interest in the Nottingham idea too, such as Zed, Melll, Cat, and so on.
Anyway, anyone that's interested in coming to an AGI that's small, informal, hopefully fun, and in the heart of the country (Nottingham!) please post the months you could do and we'll arrange something. As I said before there are some pretty cheap hotels here, and very cheap pubs and food, and it will be easy for all UK peelers to get to.
I was thinking possibly January but post your suggestions in any case.
And I will most definitely be more sparing with my alcohol intake this time.
-
Januar! Februar i can also do.
-
My school's term dates (http://www.saintolaves.net/?page=termdates). I can make any of the half terms / between term breaks and the weekends. However January isn't a great time for me, i'm taking my A2 exams then.
EDIT: Best i can tell, exams are 10th Jan - 1st Feb
-
28th January has been suggested, which a few people can do (it's been impossible to find a date everyone knows they can do!).
Some possibles include Slick, Aslate, Tnuk (why is he still banned?), and Catz.
This is posted so that Melll, Zed, Alena and Archie can let us know if they'd like to come, and of course, anyone else who would like to.
Oh, and Sammy. He should come!
There's a hotel that's just £20 a night for a whole room - I plan this to be a very cheap weekend for people.
-
Eh, I break up on December 16th, so any time from then until about January 3rd would be perfect for me. If it's the weekend mel suggested, then I may not be able to come, seeing as my family often make me change my weekend plans at the last minute and they'd get suspicious if I planned a shopping trip this early in advance. (Weekends would also be harder to slip away for a whole day unnoticed - especially in the morning).
-
I'll be fine for whichever weekend in January, however, I'm planning to take a holiday away with the wife in January, so I need to keep a few weekends free. Let me know which date gets locked, and I'll arrange around it.
EDIT: Ooh, Adopt a PEELer! Heh! :laff:
-
I'm certainly up for Nottingham, unfortunately I simply have no idea right now what I'll be doing in January :hmpf:
-
I'm likely to be available whenever, so I should be alright. Depends on the date to where I'll be travelling from (either Stoke/Crewe or Milton Keynes), but my Uni room is available for me to stay in during Christmas. Which wasn't particularly relevant but eh.
-

Nevaaaaargh!
Notts is easy enough to drive down to, for me (a quick trip down the A1), so I'm up for whenever (lock a date, and I'll arrange my stuff around it). I could provide a ride for a few lucky people, should they wish it too (probably).
-
Could I be one of the people please?
Also I plan little AGI around Liverpool some time this year. Would anybody would come to come along.
-
Well, sorry Catz, but I don't think anyone will be able to make it during those times (with it being Xmas - everyone poor and loads of office/school/friends parties to attend!). Hopefully you'll be able to come anyway!
Why don't we just make it the 28th then since that seems to (possibly!) be ok with most.
Bring on the miniagi!
-
Not committing to that date until nearer the occasions. Jobs and money may play an irritance factor.
In other news, for those still interested, I can present AGI Minsk
Czech Air, flying from Manchester or London (or some other airports) to Minsk Internation just £200 return (off peak obviously). So who's still up for the AGI Minsk?
For those who don't know, Minsk is the capital of Belarus, a former soviet state bordering Russia, Poland, Lithuania, Latvia and Ukraine. It has a population of around 1.8million and a perchance for vodka drinking as all soviet states do. I imagine that like Budapest or Kiev it has beautiful architecture and everything is cheap. Also they speak a funny language which Zed85 can translate so long as you only speak items from a McDonalds menu.
-
If it also has a Spearmint Rhino then I'm in.
-
£200 for flights? Get a load of people there first, and get one of them to take a rather large suitcase...
-
£200 is a bit much for me - I can almost get to Egypt for that! Also, I just bought 1p flights to Rome - much more my sort of thing...
-
i think it's quite problematic to go to belarus... i dunno about tourist visas, but if you're sending money to someone in belarus, the goverment will first take money and then maybe give the money to the person.
"Also they speak a funny language which Zed85 can translate"
unless zed speaks belarusian language i dont think so. it's a biiit similar to russian but you'd probably have trouble translating it even if you were a native russian speaker...
-
Yeah, visas in the CIS are tricky things. I'm still a bit vague in my understanding about Tourist Visas (and Visas in general), but it seems generally, to get a Private Visa, a Belarussian (or someone living there at least) has to invite you there first.
That's probably the same everywhere but it just seems more apparent in the CIS...or something
Yes, I hear you about Belarusski. The impression I get is that it's different to Russian for the sake of difference...
Although, it was probably once a proud and individual language - and so would be even worse if not for Imperial Russia going "NO, YOU WILL SPEAK/WRITE SOMETHING WE CAN (HOPE TO) UNDERSTAND!"
Wouldn't know what Imperial power that also reminds me of...
But apparently Russian is a second language in Belarus, and according to her leader, the country is all in favour of staying very good friends with Russia - so a guy fluent in Russian should probably get by fine. :)
If only I was fluent in Russian
-
You guys are actually serious about Minsk? I thought it was a joke option. Why not Molvania (http://www.molvania.com.au/molvania/)
-
Whatcha talking about. What with the dictatorial government, the corruption, continued use of the death penalty and independent foreign journalists going missing, I propose that it is almost as safe as Tashkent (Uzbekistan).
-
Yeah, bollocks to all that, can't we do Prague instead?
-
Ah Prague! There's just been a TV show on it (well more on how much of a bunch of arseholes British tourists are, but lets show them that it's not just Brits that are wankers). Beer is 40p a pint (€0.60). Flights are plentiful and hotels reasonably priced. For example, a four night stay next April with direct flights and accommodation £488. That's a centrally located 3 star hotel.
If USAF Thule is out, and Sarajevo is out, Prague is next best!
And what to do in Prague? Well there are plenty of beautiful buildings and architecture, Prague being known as the "City of a thousand spires", around Old Town. There has been an astronomical clock running for 600 years that marks something of a pilgrimage for many visitors, Prague Castle, the Clementium that was used as an astronomical and meteorological station since the 18th century and is now a library that supposedly contains God within one of its books.
Sounds like a fine time...
!!BREAKING NEWS!! This trip has been OFFICIALLY catty-endorsed. An offocial statement read "[catindisguise] would come but has been banned by the British consulate". Come on! How can you afford not to?
:evillaugh:  ;) :p
-
That sounds pretty reasonable, it's the front runner for me.
-
Right, well, i'm up for AGI Abroad. If it's cheap, all the better. But you know my term dates, i posted a link earlier. I can't go outside during term time, i can make weekends.
-
If the next AGI will be on Prague and it would be on a good timing (studies, tests, work) I have no problems showing up. Prague is a cool place and its relatively cheap to fly there from here.
I'm up for it!
Only better places would be Ayanapa (or whatever its called), Cyprus or Turkey (and obviously, Israel).
Go AGI Prague!
-
Wait, Catty's coming to Prague?
-
Catty is unable to come to Prague but she has read over the trip itinerary and supports it wholeheartedly, hence she will be there in spirit and spirits. catty-endorsed is the highest honour that can bestow an AGI or PEELathon.
-
So I see that Liverpool is out of the question?
----------------
(http://www.peelified.com/ubb/sigs/00000110.jpg)
-
No, Nottingham is on the table for January, then Prague (possibly). Liverpool will happen, be patient. Possibly as a mini-meet, who knows. I did make a promise to Cat (on the phone in London) that I'd try to arrange something.
-
ok then
-
You have to remember that we're trying to cater for all here, and there are few people willing to stick their necks out and organise these things.
-
Originally posted by Archie2K:

You have to be kidding, right? Do you think we're made of money? £488 for 4 nights???? I could spend a week in Cairo for that! I suspect you can find a holiday in Prague for a wee bit cheaper, you know.
Obviously Prague is further but I just booked a three night stay and flights (from East Midlands so no travel costs to the airport!) to Rome for £61 a head...
(AGI Italy! Pompeii! :p)
-
I could spend 40 days in Greenland for that in a hostel, but I'm not going to because I like my luxury. This was a trip that came up on expedia using BA flights (good although without food now :p) and staying a centrally located and decent hotel because I like my luxury. Ryanair+hostel would be much cheaper I don't doubt.
And if we're doing volcanic AGIs now, I demand the next one be at Yellowstone, then Deccan in India. Seriously go look at the Deccan Traps, unbelievable stuff. And they may have wiped out the dinosaurs.
-
Well, I was talking about a HOTEL not a hostel. The one I've booked has mini-bars, a gym, solarium, etc :p
Anyway. Just searched around for a sniff of a hint of prices for a four day stay in Prague. Staying in a hotel near the city and flying bmibaby (and sharing a room) - and by the way, you get free food and drink on BMI - from East Mids it's £150 for accommodation and flights, per person. That was just the first ones I came across, I'm sure you can get cheaper deals.
-
Let's all go to Kamchatka! Lots of volcanoes there :D
Much as Prague does sound very appealing - but we'd have to find a cheaper solution. I certainly couldn't afford both Prague and New York I think...
-
There is a cheaper solution in the meantime - come to Nottingham!
I still think we should have a small meet up in the midlands January 28th, cheap for all the UK peelers, while everyone battles it out and figures out dates/places and saves up money for an AGI abroad.
Nottingham AGI: Castles in the sky!
I figure it'd be nice to see some history this time, and most importantly, have a cheap pint.
Hope you all like Robin Hood.
-
Agreed, let's lock Nottingham as a definate. We can figure out the abroad one later.
-
Prague certainly is Catty-endorsed. I love the city sooo much. Seriously, it's beautiful.
If I recall it has been catty-endorsed for an AGI location for over a year now, because I think I suggested it when I came back from my holiday there in 2004... I'm ahead of my time, damnit!
So, yeah, I can't go, but damnit, I'm going to make everyone who can!
-
But you can come to Nottingham ;)
Well, hopefully, anyway.
-
Oh come on! Finally an AGI I can go to and you are having doubts about it?
Besides, I've never been to Prague and I really wanna go. Never had a "reason" to. Not going to go there on my own... Europe is kinda boring when you're all alone...
-
nottinghams good for me, someone just let me know as i forget stuff cheers guys. someone tell stuart B please and melly :)
they need to come
nb: top of the page fluffy llama dance.
-
 The Poms can get an AGI off the ground with food and everything and we can't even organize four people to meet in Melbourne. I hope you're happy Alex.
-
You aussies suck!
Yeah, Amy, Stubby and Coils definately need to be in Nottingham, it'd be great to have as many people in as possible. And you! YAY! :D
-
I should be down, if we're still going for Jan 28th. Is there an airport near enough there? Fucked if I'm gettin National Express, i'll just easyJet it for 30quid.
-
East Midlands is the nearest, I think.
-
Thats cool, there's a 45minute connection via Bus into the center of Nottingham from EMA(airport) every 30mins.
-

Actually I already had a MiniAGI in Melbourne. Ha!
Amy20! Hello! It'd be great if you could come along! I'll tell StuartB when I see him in the chat - and I've never met Coilette and don't see her in the chat anymore, so perhaps you or Melll could let her know?
Anyways, it's now definite as there's been a fair amount of interest from UK peelers, 28th-29th Jan in Nottingham. Anyone needs any more info let me know. Won't get into hotel booking quite yet, but I'll check it out a bit nearer the time.
Here's a challenge - what shall we call it?
And I'd like to hear suggestions on what people would like to do for the day (NO complaining this time please!)...
-
An energetic hike around Sherwood Forest followed by an evening's camping and singing songs around a campfire, with vodka.
...what? :p
-
How about a slightly lethargic amble around the Tales of Robin Hood? They're recreated the smell of his poo, you know.
...oh, and there are almost a dozen good pubs in that vicinity :p
Or maybe the oldest pub in Nottingham (or England? not sure) - the Olde Trip to Jerusalem? They don't have the pretend poo but they do have beer. Oh, and it's supposedly haunted.
There are also Ghost Walks in Nottingham if that floats anyone's boat.
-
I can't take ghost walks seriously enough, I'd ruin it for other people.
But the old pubs sound interesting. Is the galleries of Justice open to the public? Most Haunted where there I'm sure, would be cool to visit.
But a slightly lethargic walk around Tales of Robin Hood sounds interesting.
WE COULD ALL DRESS UP FOR THE DAY!!! YES!
-
The galleries of justice is a touristy thing http://www.galleriesofjustice.org.uk/ (http://www.galleriesofjustice.org.uk/) - it's £8 to get in so possibly a bit pricey, but looks good, also if you wanna see the caves, it's less than £10 to see both of them. Both worth a visit.
If you hang around the Tales of Robin Hood http://www.robinhood.uk.com/tourist_1.htm (http://www.robinhood.uk.com/tourist_1.htm) you'll probably see the falconry guy with his huge... falcon... having a ciggie outside, and he's dressed up in his Robin Hood gear.
-
We'll all have to purchase the feathered hats, of course. That will be compulsory.
-
Yes!
AGI: Revenge of the Hats!
-
I remember doing this medievil banquet thing in Nottingham ages ago, was a fantastic night out, they just kept the beer coming (served by comely wenches who called you "my lord" ).
We could do that.
-
Heh heh. I could call everyone 'my lord' and save us all some money!
Seriously - a great idea. Reminds me of the cable guy... But not sure as it might be a bit pricey for people...
Look at the link: http://www.robinhood.uk.com/revelry_2.htm (http://www.robinhood.uk.com/revelry_2.htm)
WAIT! I just noticed - LIMITLESS BEER!
-
Only if you dress as a serving wench.
The one I went to was called "Knights Of Robin Hood" (or something), yeah, it was limitless beer (up to 11pm) and a banquet of chicken and ribs to chow down on. Was pretty damn good.
Basically the wenches come to you with their jugs, "more beer, my lord". I was loving it. There's a choice of beer, lager, or cider.
And we got a stripper in the pub next door, for good measure.
-
Brilliant.
Medieval AGI!
I want to go!
(and it says last orders at 12.30!)
HURRAH!
-
http://www.robinhood.uk.com/revelry_2.htm (http://www.robinhood.uk.com/revelry_2.htm) ....
That sounds an fukken awesome idea! A Medieval AGI! With Costumes! And A Banquet! Yes!
-
Shit, I think that was the place I went to! It was awesome! I've never been so drunk! I may have to come off the wagon for this one.
-
Chizwazzah! I mean, hurray!
So that's three down for the banquet... anyone else interested?
We should book by November I reckon or thereabouts - plenty of time to get our stuff sorted and have an idea of numbers.
-
Not sure what we'd do about the underage members, can they come too?
-
I think so, but I suspect there won't be any under-agers there (just day trips for them I reckon) - it'd only be the same as taking them into a pub in any case.
-
Good point. I'd rather not worry about that, this time. Aslate needs to get someone to photoshop him a decent fake-ID.
This seems like the best plan, and I'm sure if we were buying rounds (and food) in a normal pub it will amount to less money for the amount of beer and food we're gonna get "free" here, I think it's a good deal, and by far the best plan. It'll be great!
-
Certainly sounds interesting :)
-
Is your sister available in January, Doug?
-
And no-one can complain about drinks prices this way, yay!
-
I reckon this will be the closest thing we could get ot a German beerfest. Although it is only one night. And the drinks are included.
holy shit.... new idea for another AGI!!
-
So... which one's the AGI that all the Americans will be going to? ...Anyone?
-
Ooh, ooh, this one!
-
Yes! This one! The very Olde English one! You can laugh and say how quaint we are! Join usssss!
-
Join usss, we'll get medieval on your asses!
-
I like that idea for the Robin Hood theme. I am up for it. You can add me to the list.
----------------
(http://www.peelified.com/ubb/sigs/00000110.jpg)
-
Well Mel(s), as much as I'd like to go, I'm back in school by Jan 22, so the 28th-29th won't work out; and I'd advise against changing your plans just to suit me given that even if it was rescheduled there’s still a chance I wouldn’t be able to make it. Now... if we can get a couple more Americans in on this, then that’s another story all together...
-
Yeah - unfortunately we'll never be able to co-ordinate it with everyone's school holidays, so may as well stay 28th. Sorry!
*cough* skip school for a day or so! *cough*
-
Ooooh, sounds interesting :)
put me down as a maybe.
-
If you want a USA-one, you probably want to get the later European one i'd say. It's going to be in the Summer and everyone will be travelling to it. The January one was meant to be a cheap UKian mini-AGI at first. There's lots of ideas going round about that, it might be a week long, might have a place rented out.
Not saying don't attend the January one, but AGI Prague, or whatever it'll be called, is probably the big international one.
-
They should do whichever one they can, both, if possible!
-
It would be fun to get the americans over a Ye Olde English banquet though. Definitely.
-
Yeah - it would indeed. And there's actually been quite a lot of interest so 'miniagi' may turn maxi, who knows.
Also, the longer and further away you make it, the less people likely to come... Though a week away sounds lovely, I think I'll do that in Egypt ;)
-
(00:22:01) <totalnerduk> Silicon: You can post the following for me. >>> AGI Mediaeval sounds fantastic. Even the threat of Juliet being there can't dampen the fun. I'll be there, much as it will pain me to swap my captains hat for a floppy feathered thingy. Jan 28th I believe it was? But if things change, email me at totalnerduk <-HAT-> gmail <-DAWT-> com - I'll fit my plans around you guys. Then on to Prague, on the PEEL bus!
-
Can’t we just go over there and enjoy ourselves and have fun without all the arguments and fighting? Time to move on and don’t act childish.

Awww, look! Those kids just grow up so darn fast now-a-days!
thats whats so funny
-
yeah. soon they are gonna cyber in public chatrooms.
-
That has got nothing to do with you Amy. Keep out of this.
I just hate it when most of you still like to piss me off. I don’t care if TNUK is going or not I want to go there and enjoy myself. I don’t want to get laughed at while I am there. I just hope you guys understand.
-
Yeah, I know. Im so sorry Mario and I keep it to ourselves. Next time Ill messege you with a full log. Because you asked so nice.
Its called a JOKE Juli. Get over it. Not everything I do is specific to being cruel to you. Just like Marg feels the need to comment on everything thats none of her buisness, why cant I do the same?

I misunderstood.

As much fun as this sounds, lets concentrate on AGI: Medieval! Everyone should come. Sign up now. Has anyone got any webspace - maybe we can have a sign up page?
-
I'll knock one up today before i head off to work... will update this post when I'm done.
EDIT:
Done: http://www.siliconfury.de/agi/ (http://www.siliconfury.de/agi/)
-
Signed up.
There is an unoffical rule, anyone misbehaving a la being hellishly disrespectful or causing fights (basically behaviour not in the spirit of AGI), gets thrown in the nearest river.
We're all grown ups (mostly), regardless of peoples various histories, we can all get on (people are moreover different in real life anyway) and therefore can get through two days without falling out.
EDIT: Can't we have TNUK unbanned now?
-
That what I was trying to say before but some people don’t take me seriously
----------------

-
Which lead to around five unneccesary posts in this thread. Some of which were yours.
Anyway, moving on....
Anyone have an AGI wishlist? Who would they like to see there?
-
Orlando Bloom? :p
Well, it'd be great to see Sammy again (someone persuade him! Don't think he's on the net too much these days); it'll be nice to meet Slick for the first time; other than that, the usual suspects I reckon! Actually, it would be nice to meet Coils.
Don't forget to post your suggestions as to what you'd like to do, and sign up to SF's AGI-sign-up page.
-
I've not met any of you, I'm still an ickle n00b on here, but It'll be great to meet you lot.
Wish kip would come though :/
-
If kip went I think I'd hijack an airplane to try and make it
-
Kip's always good fun, we missed him on the Saturday this time too.
I can txt Sammy, he'll know about it.
I dunno about mine, I'd like Coils and Stubby and Impy to come again, Amy(20) too. I'm looking forward to meeting some of the people I've not met (and there aren't many now, I'm up there with Sammy and Archie for most PEELers met).
The AGI's do need some new blood, so SF, MKTai and Slackit would be cool.
-
Unrelated to AGI stuff, i'll be in York on Friday 7th October for the York University open day, if anyone's free up there i'll be in from 9 and the open day finishes at 3:30 if you want to say hi.

I'm working lates (4pm - 8pm) that day, so I may be around if you're free. I could come up and have a drink in one of the student bars, if you like. I recommend Vanburgh or Goodricke.
-
4-8? I'll probably be there all of the open day and then need to leave to get home. Ah well, maybe next time i'm in York!
-
No, you misunderstand, I'm available OUTSIDE of 4pm-8pm, you know, the rest of the day. Before and after. ;)

living nearish nottingham, WAYNE ring me with details, maybe able to get a locals opinion as another forum which one likes to peruse and is joined too has various members there!!!!! They have 'local' knowledge.

MelBee, I'd go if Orlando Bloom was there also. I adore him, and I'm old enough to be his mom (gross thought).
I wish you all a wonderful time. I will be with you in spirit. Damn job and family.... kidding. I love my family (except for Nasty). :)
-
Nottingham's sorta near Sheffield, so I may even be able to drag Meri down for the evening or something :)
-
Yes! :D
Amy, I'm pretty sure Mel has local knowledge, as she lives in Notts, however, does this mean that there are some more people who wanna come?

I'm at the open day till 3:30-ish, and i can't really stay that late as it'll take me about 3 hours to get home!

A merry maybe for Notts, though doubtful.
In the meantime, here's some more camden photos

Um, yes, I live in Nottingham and grew up here. Not sure how much more 'local' you want it? If you want my opinion on something, just ask, I have a very good grasp of what's going on here and what's best to do...

Hehe I love that DDR game. They are so fun. I like the photos alenacat

I would wish to visit AGI... Tweek has already promised me a pint (not really) [I am drujnk and I forced Tweek to promise me a pint].

I signed up as quite likely, this is fairly easy to get to for me so I have little excuse I guess :p

Hotel details coming up soon.
Please post your ideas for the weekend here and we can get a proper sort of 'itinerary' sorted out (since people do seem to worry during these things!).
Anyway, should be most medieval-related fun...
-
Would anyone be interested in a newyears get together?
I mentioned it briefly at the last AGI and on #fc. Myself and Cøde would like to meet some of you again, and the 24th isn't really possible.
Has anybody got any free mansions hidden up their sleeve, or know of any events?
-
Depending on how many people want to come, some could crash here, I guess. The maximum would be like 4 or so, though.
Events: Getting completely shitfaced with my friends? I don't know, we could plan something.
If anyone's interested, I would ask my flatmates.
-

Ummh, sure, i hardly have New Year's plans.
-
New Year's ey? I'd be in if we can give this plan some Gestalt.
-
I'd need to check on work schedules of course, give me some more definate details and I'll be in.

The link does not work.

Sorry, I had to kill the site temporarily, it's back up now, it will be moving in around 6 weeks or so. I will update closer to time.
-
i'll be there!
-
For all clarity, we should specify which potential meeting we could go to because there are several discussed in this thread. I might come to London at New Year.
For now it looks unlikely that I will be at an AGI in May/June.
(I am not going to Philadelphia or New York.)
-
oh i meant the medieval stuff
-
This is getting a bit confusing. We should have different threads for different events I think - there is the one for the American peelathon already so people can talk about that there, and this one had turned into being about agi:medieval until people started talking about the possibility of a new year's eve meet up. I don't know about anyone else but I already have plans for New Years and they certainly don't involve going to anywhere other than a party, as it's too damn expensive! Also I don't know how it would work out for the continentalists (heh) - travel is pretty expensive around new year's. As are taxis, drinks, hotels and, well, everything.
In any case, AGI:Medieval, 28th Jan in the midlands is still on and we'll be booking places by December I think for the banquet so definite numbers will be needed by then. I'll find and post a hotel come November which will be a 'cheap choice' to keep costs down.
-
Apologies for the double post but I want to give a general idea of itinerary (and get feedback) for 28th January.
Friday 27th Jan (for those who come then)
- Starting in the evening
-Ghost Walk in Nottingham City
-Tour round some of the oldest pubs in the region (and some of the cheapest!)
January 28th (Saturday - Main day)
A mixture of the following items:
Castle tour
Galleries of justice tour
Caves
Tales of Robin Hood
Followed by:
Medieval Banquet (£38 - 4 course meal included and all you can drink beer, plus all entertainment all night)
Sunday: Shopping and/or any tourist items we didn't do the previous day
Sunday evening: (For those still left) - Pub quiz in town.
It sounds fairly expensive but it should work out quite reasonable - please let me know your feedback.
Thanks!
-
Sounds great Mel, I cannot afford not to go now.
-

Is that for each person or is it the price where all of us contribute towards the Banquet?
-
That would be the price per person, I don't think the place would stay in business very long if they charged that for a large group :p
-
Oh ok. Hmm it must be worth it. *Start saving up some more*
-
Mel, sounds fine. It should be a good one.
-
( http://www.siliconfury.de/agi/ (http://www.siliconfury.de/agi/) )
Sweet! It will be great indeed.
And yes, Juliet, as Tweek pointed out, that price is definitely per person, I'm not entirely sure how anyone could do all you could drink beer, loads of courses of food, costumes and entertainment for £38 between 10 of us (or however many)....
Also I will be checking out the ghost walks in Nottingham to see if they're any good - if we have enough interest on the Friday we could book a special night just for ourselves. (That's just a fiver)
-
looking good melbee, your quite the organising lady.
definetly count me in.
-
Excellent news!
Everyone else that's interested, please email me so that I have your email address (although I have some of them already) and I'll put together a mailing list with dates, info and regular updates.
I'll post a hotel in a few weeks time.

I'm still intending to come down just for the day and such, i.e. not going to the banquet thing or staying the night.

I got my exam timetable, my last exam is on the 27th in the afternoon. I'll be done with the exam by 3:15, earliest i could leave here is probably 4:30. I assume that's too late to be worth going up on the Friday night?
For Damien, depending on what you're doing your maths dates: Core Maths 1 and 2 are on the 16th, M1 10th, S1 12th, D1 23rd.
So i should be all go for the AGI!

So... it was the dog's shirt? Boyo, that's one masculine looking girlfriend he has.

The thing which came up, rapidly disappeared when the me and the missus decided to split permanently. I'm still coming.
-
I was wondering if there any twin rooms available? I wouldn't sharing a room with anybody.
-
Give them a call.
Just to keep folk updated, I've got my flights booked for Nottingham. I'm arriving at Nottingham Airport at 0955 on the 28th(Saturday), and leaving at 1925 on the sunday.
If anyone wants to meet up that early, awesome! If not, ill go into town and find a comfy bench to sleep on.

Nottingham has an airport? ;)
-
Yea, I think it used to be a wal*mart, then they decided to lay a runway.. "Woo Yea, We got us an airport now!"

It is actually near Kegworth, not Nottingham, it used to be called East Midlands Airport.

Tweek, if you decide to extract the finger from your ass and come to this one, then nothing will stop me from being there.

I already said I was planning to attend :)

That is cool Tweek

I'm most probably coming. Just have to work a few things out.

I might be able to make it if you like, what with all this spare time and all ... depends what day(s) though :)
-
It's the last weekend in Feb, seems like a good time to come down. I'll be there for that.
-
But agi medieval first! Don't forget to call the hotel (or, the link I posted has loadsa other hotels if you wanna stay at a more 'classy' joint). Juli, it has cheap single rooms. You don't need to share.
I need to know final numbers by the end of this month so I can book the medieval feast thingy - hopefully they don't need deposits as I'm not sure how we'll sort that out!
Wayne, Siliconfury, you can stay at mine. Archie, if you're coming, and behaving yourself, you can stay at mine too. Bring sleeping bag/duvet.
-
Deal, that saves me some cash. I'm in definately!
-
Ah, and as an addendum, for those who know me, I've finally found a new flat and I'm having a housewarming/xmas party on 17th Dec - those I know are welcome to come along, just drop me an email.
-
Dammit, stop doing stuff when I'm busy! :p
-
Currently I'm looking very hopeful for AGI Medievil. Are we doing Friday AND Saturday nights? Because I need to go Saturday evening to make it home for work the next day. If Friday is going to be a washout then I'll pass and drive up on the morning.
Don't know for driving times to Nottingham, but I'd say three hours is a fair whack especially during quiet times, so I'd be leaving at say 10pm. That must be after the banquet when I eat three days worth of food in one go! :) I'll be on best behaviour, promise. Ask slimmy, apart from the threatened arrest, I was positively boring last time. :p
Also, for work commitments too, I will have to pass on the housewarming. Thank you very much for the invite however. :)
-
Ok I just wondering will there be anybody there to meet me at the Nottingham station when I arrived? It saves me from getting lost.
-
Juli: It's absolutely impossible to say since you haven't mentioned when you'll be there! Plus - the 'hotel' (I mean this in the loosest possible sense) is literally opposite the station, so no getting lost.
Archie, I don't think anyone else is coming on the Friday, but you're welcome if you want to stay then (and ditto to Melll).
-
Thanks babe, I'll take you up on that.
Jules when you know what time you're getting in, it may be best to coordinate with others arriving, or if all else fails I'll come get you.
-
ok then I will find out which hotel the others are staying then I will make the booking and stuff.
-
*bump*
Right, Mel needs numbers for the Medieval Banquet, who's definately coming?
We need to know asap.
I'm in.
-
I'd like to think I'm in. Meri's coming home tomorrow, I'll talk to her to see if she can make the trip down from Sheffield on the night or something. So that's hopefully 1, maybe 2, possibly 3 (Meri might bring her partner down though I really don't know)
-
Try to talk her out of bringing her partner. :p
-
Melll you manslut! You're taken already. At least make it fair and have a foursome.
I'm in.
-
I will be going :)
-
Mel = 1
Me = 1
Zed = 3
Archie = 1
Tweek = 1
That's potentially seven so far, I know we've got more. Confirm dammit! :p

I am in!!!!!!!!
But I am worryed about my money at the moment.

-
Cool! Someone ping some more people, we need more dammit! Where's Coils, and Alenacat, TNUK, and whoever else said they were coming?
Mel needs to book.
-
I'm here. 28th Feb, right? Mark me as 90% certain.
-
28th Jan if previous posts lead me to be correct.
Maybe for me turning up, nope to the banquet.
-
Hmmm. Going to have to arrive 27th Jan,spend 28th and 29th being nice, leave on 30th. I think I can do it. I'll book the time off tomorrow.
-
I be there on the 28th and go back home on the 29th. I wonder if anybody booked their room yet? I need to book mine as soon as I get a new card
-
BUMP
I was wondering if you guys can help me. I have been going through my photos and pictures on my hard drive and I lost the photos from The AGI York. I was wondering if any of you guys have some so that I could save them again? Thanks
-
Try the York thread, I was looking through it last night, there's some in there.
No Melll-drummer gif anymore tho. :(
That's what I looking for.
-
Ok thanks. I happen to find the photos in one of my old CDs and the Mell drumming gif
-
FFS im coming. cant resist the chance to see a load of males in tight tights who stroll around the forest......
:D
sorry utter cheeseness, but i am coming just havent had chance to sort accomadation out as been busy moving and a ill grandma.

Archie = 1
Tweek = 1
Aslate = 1
Juliet = 1
Amy20 = 1
TNUK = 1
Siliconfury = 1
MKTai is coming, but not to the banquet.
-
Next question, overnight sleeping arrangements. 12 people in one phone box is a little cramped. What we got planned?
-
What's the 1 and 3 mean Wayne?
And yes, sleeping arrangements. We need to get a list of who's staying and when. Unless there's anything happening on the Friday or Saturday morning, i'll be there Saturday - Sunday.
And transporty things. If i get a train, where the hell do i go and how will i get anywhere from there?
-
Originally posted by aslate:

Potential number of people, Zed is maybe bringing is sister and her partner.
Take your lazy asses back in this thread, and look for the hotel links which Mel posted. I'm staying at Mels.
-
Hotel link that Mell posted (http://www.a1tourism.com/uk/nottingham.html)
It looks like there are quite a few budget options.
-
Yes I am going to try and book a room at the weekend
-
Okays, i've got train times to Nottingham to be sorted out. If i arrive at Nottingham Station, what do i do from there? Will there be handy PEELers that can give me a lift to/from the station?
Seeing as i'll be arriving by train, it takes me about 2 hours to get there, verging on 3 if i take into account the London side of transport. When should i arrive and leave?
-
I'm going to book a hotel/guest room as per http://www.a1tourism.com/uk/nottingham.html (http://www.a1tourism.com/uk/nottingham.html) but is there anyone else who has already booked something at one of these? If so, let me know, then I can try and shack up at the same place. Makes it easier for taxi's n shit.
-
I haven't booked yet as I was waiting to see what others were doing.
-
gona have to book so if anyone wants to share a room im up for it.
-
Amy I share a room with you
-
OK, update, banquet is off, no under 18's allowed, and we have raise a deposit for anyone wishing to go. So, alternatives?:
Emailed to me by MelBee:
But we obviously can't go to the banquet if it would exclude some people. And of course there's no way we can find the £400+ it would cost to pay for everyone (2 weeks before the night, they say, which is actually around now anyway!!) So it doesn't really look feasible anymore, which is a real shame.
There's heaps of interesting stuff we can do in the day - tales of robin hood, the caves, nottingham castle, galleries of justice etc.
What I would suggest perhaps instead is the ghost walk they do at the sal at 7pm on a saturday. You don't need to book, plus it's only £4 and it takes an hour or two so plenty of time for the pub after. I've just checked the website and it's definitely still on. It says we should book for 10 or more people but to be honest I don't reckon it'll matter. It would make for something different and is cheap so - best option I think.
The only thing is, I won't go on that again as I went on it only a month ago so I just don't fancy it again! However I'm happy for you guys to go off on your merry way and catch up with you later.
Sound good?
-
Yep sounds satisfactory. We could go for a chinese or simliar instead of a banquet.
Still need to book a hotel room... *goes back to that lists, looks for something kinda central*
http://www.a1tourism.com/uk/thegreshamhotel.html (http://www.a1tourism.com/uk/thegreshamhotel.html)
Looking at this, might go for it, quite central , close to the station, quite cheap.
-
Pity about the banquet, Chinese/Indian/pub food will do instead though.
-

What isn’t the banquet suppose to be a family thing? And yet it is very expensive for what Melbee has mentioned. Going for a Chinese would be good.
-
Okay, that's a bugger. I'm still coming though damnit.
Anyone able to answer my question about when i should get there for? Is 11AM Saturday way too early and what, and where do i go from the big stationy thing?
Also, 1 young boy (house trained) wishes to find roomshare for the night of the 28th January. Only able to pay via cash on arrival.
-
1 young(ish) female short of cash, trying v hard to afford to come. house trained nearly, (keep missing newspapers)

That hotel looks good to me, if somebody wants to share a room and go halves on the cost. Of course, the same site offers rooms at a B&B near to the station for £25, so if nobody wants to share, I'll be off to stay at cheapo-town.
I'll be booking on the 25th when I get paid... let me know - - > totalnerdukatgmail.com
Aslate, Archie, Silicon, please feel free to offer to share a room. Amy, please feel free to offer to share a bed. :p
As for when to get there, I arrive at the station about noon on Friday 27th January... anybody else going to be there that early on, or am I going to have to amuse myself for a bit?

I'm up for that TNUK, as long as you don't kill me i'm all for it. I'm only up there the one night though.
-
Hmmm. One night only, huh? I'll have to see how much cost-sense that makes.
-
ill share rooms but not bed but i think aslates claimed me already
-
Well I am going to book a room for my own
-
It appears I'm crashing at MelBee's. Along with Melllvar and Archie. No bookings here then.
-
Ok so I know that Amy, TNUK, Aslate and Tweek are going to book rooms. I just wanted to know what hotel you guys staying at? It would be an idea to stay at the same one.
-
That would make sense. Then it'd be cheaper for gettin taxi's back on sat. night.
-
Well I'll be booking at that Gresham Hotel place. The money I save by not getting an expensive room, I can spend on booze.
-
I called The Gresham Hotel today and their arrangement seems to be very awkward. They need me to send them a £10 deposit first by cheque and a letter telling them what day do I need to book but I don't have a cheque. They told me that a postal order would do. I told them can’t I just book a room right away and they said no.
I can only get the room if I come over to the hotel on that day and give me the money that if my deposit has sent to them before that day. Meh I don’t really know if I want to book to that hotel. I might have to look at a different hotel that can make the booking easier.
-
Sounds very 19th century. Should have asked if a telegram ordering your booking would suffice.
Moving forward, they didn't even ask for plastic details!?
-
I think I'm just going to find somewhere on the day, shouldn't be too hard to find somewhere this time of year.
-
may have a problem attending due to chinese new year. i seem to be needed at work.

Well yes they ask me to send a letter to them with my card details and I them no because I wouldn’t give away my card details to anyone. I am not that stupid. Tweek you think that could book a room on the day? Would be better to book earlier.

Doubt Meri's coming either - I think she's got exams :hmpf:
I haven't booked a hotel room yet, any suggestions - that Gresham place just sounds rediculously over complicating things.
-
Seeing as i'm still having problems working out what's going on hotel wise, i'd be up for sharing like we did at AGI York :)
-
Currently a dire fiscal situation is happening and I may not be able to afford even the small outlay to come to Nottingham. At the moment put me down as a wavering depending on money circumstances. I'm looking at getting another job right now.
-
If you're having problems booking at the Gresham Hotel, use a booking service. You pay them by credit card on line, and they book you in.
There are plenty of them about. Just google one up.
As far as rooms go, Slater, if you're desperate, then you can sleep on my floor. I'm only getting a single because I can't share a twin for one night only - Archie isn't the only one with a cashflow crisis.
Archie, if you don't come you'll get a million drunken phone calls from all of us. Each telling you exactly what you're missing out on.

Oh yes I am sorted with a hotel room. I called The Riverside Guest House and it was much easier to book the room than The Gresham Hotel. No deposit and card details, I just give out my name and what day I will be arriving. All I need to do is to turn up on the day and give them the money.
I will be staying at The Riverside Guest House.
-
That is a little way out but the #11 bus (http://www.nctx.co.uk/Timetables/TT011.pdf) goes nearby, it is just north of Trent Boulevard.

Bad news, a band thing has come up that I can't get out of, for the Saturday, I still intend coming for the Sunday daytime.
Amy, let me know if you need a lift.
-
And now for something totally different. How about a (mini-)AGI in March, April or early May? I'll be in Birmingham.
-
May would be good for me. Gives me some time to scrape cash together for train tickets and a room.
However, Birmingham is a hole. There'd better be something fun to do.
-
It's the second biggest city of England, I'm spending X thousand euros for a 3 month internship, and according to you it is a hole?
oh.
dear.
-
Hey, I'm generalising. I'm sure it's not all a hole.
Plus, I have a tendancy to rate anything outside of Yorkshire as being a hole.
-
It has pubs, many of them, also weed from my experience there last week. And a small version of the London Eye, and some pictures of animals including bears.
-
Ok so what is the plan for Saturday and Sunday?
-
10 Get pissed
20 Go to 10
-
What about contact numbers?
-
when i get some money, ill go to england first thing.
-

I don't have a mobile phone so I have no contact number.
Another place (http://www.a1tourism.com/uk/a53313.html) that might be good (cheap) to stay, it is within a hundred yards of Peel Street (http://www.multimap.com/map/browse.cgi?pc=NG13HL) and more importantly not far from the Lincolnshire Poacher public house which this Saturday has a selection of fine ales from North Yorkshire... assuming TNUK doesn't drink them dry on Friday :p
-
Ok I got a bit of a probelm with the trains and I don't know what to do. i will be ok making my way there on Saturday but geeting back home might be a prblem because I have to change three trains to the places I have never been. there is one other way to go on one train on my way back home.
I don't whatever I could risk it or not.
-
What exactly are your options?
-
I am thinking of taking three trains going back home at the moment
and also thinking of going home at 5pm because I like to meet everybody who are going on Sunday
-
No no, WHERE do you have to change?
-
Nottingham to Derby then
Derby to Crewe then
Crewe to Liverpool
-
As long as you don't set off too late, they are all relatively big stations so the services will be decent.
I'd say mid-late afternoon on Sunday is best.
-
www.nationalrail.co.uk (http://www.nationalrail.co.uk) is the site for national rail services. You can get excellent timetables there weeks in advance.
-
Thank you very much Archie that is very useful from you. Oh and thank you Wayne :) I Think I make my way home at 4:30pm
-
Thats cool, my flight leaves Nottingham hat 1925, so I'll have to leave at 6pm. (maybe 5.30, im paranoid about airports and delays getting there.)
-

Tickets booked, i'm arriving at Nottingham Station at 11:28 on the Saturday and leaving at 18:36 on the Sunday.
-
I've booked at the Igloo hostel (http://www.igloohostel.co.uk/home/index.html) as it is only £13.50 per night :p
I look forward to seeing people on Saturday afternoon :)
-
I'm sure i've already said, but I'll be arriving at the airport at around 10am, so I'll be in town a short time after that. I'll phone people when I get there, be it bus or train station.
-
I'm away in colder climates for most of april now but brum has cadburyworld and cheapness! It has some world famous architecture too and a central airport.
Anyone at last AGI: I went back to Bierland (http://www.cat-biscuit.com/meal.jpg)! The other weirdo is my brother
Have fun everyone in Nottingham :)
-
I have bought my train tickets today. I shall be at Nottingham station at about 11am
-
I'm there just after 12 hopefully - where are we all meeting up again?
Oh, just BTW, what time train you leaving Nottingham on Juli - I have to go via Derby on the way home too :)
-
I don't think anybody has decided where to meet, if nobody has any better ideas I'd suggest the Vat and Fiddle (http://www.beerintheevening.com/pubs/s/26/2652/Vat_and_Fiddle/Nottingham), it is near the station and gets a good write up. Some time between twelve and one to give people time to drop stuff off where they are staying and find the place :)
map (http://www.streetmap.co.uk/newmap.srf?x=457315&y=339029&z=0&ar=Y)
It might be an idea to print out this map (http://www.nottinghamcity.gov.uk/www/maps/g_lib/citycentremap_sep05.pdf) too, it has all the streets north of the station.
-
will ring wayne on sat night and will try and catch you all on sun morning
-
That is good Amy

Nice. Well I am thinking of leaving at about 4pm. I would have time to meet the guys who are coming on Sunday.

That is a good idea Tweek. I reckon we all should do that.
-
That seems like a brilliant place to meet up. It's very near the station and the Gresham Hotel (http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&sll=52.949388,-1.14687&sspn=0.00852,0.020127&hl=en&q=Gresham+Hotel&btnG=Search&ll=52.948341,-1.146097&spn=0.00852,0.020127).
-
I was just gonna land in Notts and phone around, but that sounds a good plan also.
-
Hotel booked. I'll be at the 3-star Talbot House, which is costing me £99 all told.
I'm arriving in Nottingham on Friday, earlier than most, I know, at lunchtime. If anybody is around at the same time as me, call me on NUMBER REMOVED IF PEOPLE WANT TO PRANK CALL SOMEBODY, THEN CALL 999 AND TELL THEM YOU NEED AN EMERGENCY STUPIDITY REMOVAL.
Still disappointed that Archie isn't coming. Poor, my arse. He's just lazy. If I didn't have the money, I'd mug a few old people and children. You know, those who have no defense against that sort of thing. :p
-
slick you gonna head down later this year and doss down at mine?
-
Yea sure, how much later this year? During summer?
-
your paying in kind, mind you :P
summer sounds good. you can wear your mini skirt then and get a good breeze on your wireless dongle

Melbee suggests the Tap & Tumbler as a place to meet.
-
Saturday or Sunday?
-
Saturday.
-
You're all meeting at the Tap and Tumbler at 1pm on Saturday. :)
-
Confirmed by txt. 1 min from Theatre Royal Tram Stop, Wollaton Street. 1pm Saturday.
I'll see you guys Sunday.
-
Ta
Archie are you going now?
-
Got an address for that pub?
-
Wollaton Street. That's it.
-
Just checked my phone, lol. Cheers.
I'm gonna have to catch up with Mel when arrive at around 10/11 anyway, to dump my stuff at hers.
-
Since two pubs have been suggested at different times both can be used, people who wish to get started at twelve can go to the Vat and Fiddle then head to the Tap & Tumbler at one, late arrivers can got straight to the latter :)
-
Just FYI, Nottingham is large, confusing, and appears to be filled with homeless people. I vote we have the next AGI in Leeds, York, or even Bradford. Wait, no. Not Bradford. Perhaps Huddersfield.
See you all at the Vat tomorrow... I think I'm going to have to get very drunk tonight to blot out the memories I formed at Derby Station.
Everything outside of Yorkshire should be demolished. This country's crap!
Right, I'm taking this to the rant thread (http://www.peelified.com/cgi-bin/Futurama/12-002735-16/#t608) before I get out of hand.
-
If you are missing Yorkshire go to the Lincolnshire Poacher on Mansfield Road, their North Yorkshire breweries week is on now :p
-
Leeds? Are you insane? I'm sure just driving through leeds turns you into a crackhead.

Most excellent, Derby is the station I have to change at :D

Assuming I haven't screwed up and missed the train, I should arrive in Nottingham at 12:10-ish.

Smashing times, really, smashing :D
Had a fun train journey home - though the train was a bit packed when I got to Birmingham...so they decided to split the train in half. In the end I was in that area around the doors - that really tight area - with 10 other people. All the way from Birmingham to at least Cheltenham. But, no, that's cool, because the phrase "how 'king 't is this!?!" can be the basis for some great conversations :D
Futher more on the train to Derby, me and Juli sat behind a guy watching Less than Hero - fantastic

My Nottingham weekend
Saturday 28th
I got up at 6am all excited and got myself ready to make my way to Liverpool Lime Street station. I got to the station at 8am and have to make three train changes, Liverpool, Crew, Derby to get to Nottingham. When I got to the Nottingham station I took the taxi to the Riverside Guest House where I am staying then drop my stuff. It was really nice that the taxi driver stayed for me as I dropped my stuff, which took me 5 minutes. The driver dropped me at Vat and Fiddle and I was the first one to arrive. It was long till tnuk, aslate, Zed and Silinconfurry to turn up later by Tweek.
We had our drinks and have a chat then we made our way to Tap and Tuner where we met Melbee. Later on Mktai joined us. We had something to eat and a couple of drinks. We walk through town to the Robin Hood Tour. It was ok. We get to ride on one of those carts. After the tour Mktai made his way home. It is a shame that he couldn't stay with us long. He was a nice guy. The rest of the night we met two of Melbee's friends Becky and Angie. I am glad that Angie is a David Tennant fan like me. We went around pubs and bars having a couple of drinks and something to eat. I do like the last bar that we went to which was very relaxing with the comfy chairs and good music to listen to. Melbee and Siliconfurry took me to the taxi bay and I went back to the hotel.
Sunday 29th
I got up at 8am, got dressed and had my breakfast. I checked the hotel at 10:30am and took the bus to town to find the pub, The Bell to meet the others, I got a bit lost but luckily I met tweek in town and we found our way to the pub. Later tnuk and Melllvar joined us. We went over to the Goose to pick up aslate and Zed up then went back to The Bell Later Melbee and Silinconfurry joined us. We went to the Goose again to have a few drinks and something to eat.
Later we went to the Galleries of Justice which is the highlight of my week. It was very interesting to learn about the history on how they treat the criminals when they got locked up. The best bit was the courtroom were Melllvar dressed as the judge and tnuk was in the defendant, George Beck. It was a great laugh. Then we went to this really nice pub which inside looks like a castle/church. It was gorgeous inside. At 5pm Zed and I have to leave to catch the train to Derby. Then I said good-bye to Zed and have to wait for an hour to get the train to Crewe and another hour to get the train to Liverpool. I got home at 10pm
I really had a good time and would like to do it again at the next AGI. It was also to meet Tweek for the first time at last!

It was a sarcastic reference so a single-word TOTP Post.
As for Melllvar, he can't help that. It's an involuntary reflex. :/ He takes pills for it i think.

But... but... it's not at the top!

I hope there's gonna be some fun left in the people who'll visit Airbags when she's in London.

Well, in Amsterdam we did a couple of coffeeshops...
The first time one person couldn't talk anymore. At the second one two people whited out, and I felt like shit for it since it was my suggestion in the first place.
We also did the sex museum and some Hooters type place. (€ 6 for a pint of Heineken? My Belgian heart bleeds).
Oh and the gay monument. It's a big stone triangle. That is all.
In London I got lost in the science museum. And in Soho. And some other places as well probably.
-
You've gotten lost in some of the most prestigeous places around the world!
-
Ah Amsterdam. Not only did I have a great time, but it gives me plenty of stories to tell from the time I went to Amsterdam witth "a few mates". Was it me who couldn't talk after the first coffee shop? I remember it had been dreary and overcast all day, then we came out, pupils all dilated to bright sunshine. My poor eyes hurt.
@Pasty: 1) You say that like it's a bad thing ;) 2) You so realise that me and Melll will be =>21 when we come to New York/Jersey right? Prewarning to mom_rules; your son is going to come back with underpants round his ankles and mysterious lipstick stains on the neck. :p

I don't know where the hell my accent was for most of the weekend - the guy I chatted to on the train thought I wasn't English to begin with.

Yeah, the Las Vegas odds makers would have taken Zed's reach into account. I think he has an advantage.

If my new loan comes through, I might just be able to pay my debts off and make the meet in Feb. If not, I'll hav e to pull an Archie.

Apologies for the doublepost, but we really should be planning the next AGI, and I have been given a (really stupid) idea to kick it off.
Originally posted by SiliconFuRy in the drinks thread:
I can get a ferry from Edinburgh to Bruges. Takes too fecking long though.
I think we've found the PEEL tour route. Bus from Bruges over the channel (via ferr) to Dover or Poole. Whilst in Belgium, the PEEL Bus stocks up on fine Belgian Beer, coming through France to Calais, we grab a few bottles of generic French Plonk, and then on the ferry, it's Duty Free Time - some spirits to keep us nice and warm in case we fall overboard. Then we get off and drive into London - have a couple of White Russians in the Leicester Square Moon Under Water, and head for Catford where Tequlia must be imbibed under the giant plastic cat. Then up through the country calling at as many PEELers home towns as we can manage. Reading and then Leicester via Nottingham seems like a good start. We get to Edinburgh, then hop on the ferry to Bruges. By this time, all the Belgian beer is gone, so we need to buy some more to keep us happily lubricated on the way back to Cornwall via Poole or Portsmouth where we drink the whisky we got in Scotland, and slit Nurdbt's throat.
Sound like a plan?
-
Yeah, except we go all the way to Bruges to go to Dover? Also, Catford before Central London, it's on the way in from Dover.
-
Bruges itself is boring and expensive.
Ghent is the shit. I'd be glad to show you around.
-
Umm.. Hi.
There is a good chance I will be in Amsterdan and Antwerp this Passover (the weekend of 15/4/06). Big party in Antwerp (Sensation White) and, well, if I go that far might as well consume some perfectly legal drugs...
So, if anyone wanna meet...
This time I'm bringing a camera and not keeping it in my bag!
-
And I'll be in England then. I would have loved to meet you again though.
Watch out for the East-Norwegians ;)
-
Haha.
I was wondering, are there any trains on sunday mornings?
-
Yeah sure there are.
http://www.b-rail.be/nat/E/ (http://www.b-rail.be/nat/E/)
Type in Antwerpen Centraal
to Amsterdam (Amsterdam C.S.)
-
We might rent a car and do a little road trip in Europe after all... We might even go to London!
But this option is defenitely open... Thanks...
-
OHMYGOSH! Double post!
Anyways, I'll know on sunday if I'd be going to Europe in about a month and a half (depends on my workplace). Actually, I'll order tickets by then. I've already convinced a poor sap to join me and the plans are to rent a car and go for a week and a half, or so.
This is the plan:
11th - 15th - Amsterdam, Holland.
15th - Belgium, Antwerp, SENSATION WHITE! (par-teh!)
and after that, up to the 21st (when we plan to bring back ze car) the idea is to drive east to Germany, or first south east to Luxembourg and then head north through Germany (and back to Holland in the end).
I was wondering, is the plan plausible? considering the distances? (I don't know if its that much of distance. I was hoping you could tell me?). What is there to see and do in Germany/Luxembourg/Belgium? anything wild and interesting? Offroad driving, stuff like that...
I understand the water would be too cold for water-skiing and stuff...
so.. any ideas?
EDIT: Can't seem to find any company which offers renting a 4x4 for a trip in Europe (in above countries). Can anyone help?

It takes 3-4 hours to get to Amsterdam from Brussels or Antwerp, maybe less.
Köln/Cologne, Germany isn't too far from the Belgian border.
Maybe Archie knows if you can go see the Spa-Francorchamps racing circuit.
Disclaimer: I'm not good at map reading and I haven't visited those areas often, so don't trust me too much on this.
Edit: crap connection.
