I'm opening a site very soon called 'The Futurama Top 100'.  I've been coding it on and off since July, and I have got to the point where I can take new site submissions.  This project was formally known as 'All My Circuits', but I have dropped this name because of all the comotion of it being associated with the 'All My Circuits FTP' (Which by the way I don't run).

Looking though the Futurama Muesum I see there has been a site previously called 'The Futurama Top 100".  As this site is dead, it kinda makes the name free.  Hopefully I'll have better sucess than Craig Schlautman did. :)

The site is running off my home modem connection right now (so its about 33kbit  :(), but in a couple of weeks that will be upgraded when (I hope) to get DSL and it all working really nicely. :)

Anyway, back to the business end of this post: I'm calling for submissions of your futurama fansites to the FT100.  I've set up a submission form that you can use to add your site.  Please be aware of the following important condition:

Quote
You also give the Futurama Top 100 (FT100) the non-exclusive right to reproduce data on your site without loyalty (this is mainly used for screenshots).

This is important because of copyright issues and the like, and as a link site, I'll be having screenshots of your site on there, and probably quoting you on your site news in places (if it's big).  That is the main reason I have that condition, and I'm not out to plagurize your work!

Can I also please have some comments on the design of it, because you'll be the ones looking at it, and I want to know if my choice of design is good!

The submission form is availible here

You may be reproducing data without loyalty, but will you be doing it without asking permission first?

To clarify that, I'll be initally producing the screenshot of your front page of your site, and I'll do that without asking (because it would happen when the application is processed and I move your site's entry over to the main site database and not the submissions database).  All future site style changes will require an updated screenshot, which again will happen  ithout permission.  However, large site updates (that are not just a new design) that I spot (and you don't tell me about) I'll be asking before I post anything (as to wether you'd like it publicized or not, which implies wether I'm allowed to reproduce data).  If you however ask me to publicize a large site update, that kinda says 'I want you to put this on the
site, and I'm letting you do that'.  Unless you state otherwise in a site news request, I'll assume that is the case.

I've also posted this on the submission form, as well.

I'd also like to acknowledge 'Futurama Lounge' as the first submission into the FT100.

Nice to see a new Futurama Top site around here, because The Scary Door seems a little dead.
The design looks fair to me. Keep up the work.

Thanks Javier!

I think the lack of submissions is due to my confusing longwinded submission agreement (please tell me if otherwise), so I have simplified it.

This is viewable on the submission page.  As it is a dynamic DNS running the system, and I've had to redial the internet, your DNS may be slow.  In most cases this can be solved by cleaning out your DNS cache, by either restarting the network or restarting your computer.

Hey mic, that link is not working...
I think you should add all the Futurama sites you want to your site with a screenshot, because if you wait until someone submit a website  (like The Scary Door), you'll wait forever.
I also have a question, how the sites are gonna be rated?

I'm not convinced that this is realy neaded. As there is basicly no news there is only a few sites worth visiting and they are all linking to one another anyway... Plus there is a pretty good listing at TLZ already.

I think mic is trying to create a Futurama Top 100, not only listing the sites. And yes, there's not a lot of news in the sites since the Series Finale.

The link should work most of this time.  Its run on dynamic dns, which means if my internet drops, i have to press a button to update it again to my new IP.  So when I'm at school during the day, I can't update it.  I'm going to but in an automatic job on the computer that handles the internet to update it automatically.

That is a good idea, how to do the submissions, put a hole load of sites in and then put in a screen shot when permission is received.

The ranks of the FT100 I'll be doing manually, but I'll be swayed by user ratings mainly.  The site will be a Top 100, but I'll have a few sites that don't reach the top of course, and are only listed in a general directory.  I'll be trying my best to limit the list to about 120, but if there's a really good site that pops up, it'll move in.  Most of the actual rating will, however come from user input.  I've also implemented a click counter, which will need to be moderated to stop people deliberately clicking the 'visit this site' button 1000 times.

I also realize I shoud've done this 6 months ago - I thought of it six months ago, just I hadn't had it organized.

A few comments:
  • Site seems slow (well, it was slow for me)
  • Make the input boxes larger, and the comments box a text area
  • Add a "You, as the site owner, has the exclusive right to have your site and all links to it removed from FT100. However, updates and news featuring your site may or may not be removed due to the time it would take to do this"

I added the second half to the note above because i expect it would be horribly awkward to remove every trace of the site without major problems. I think it sounds fair.

So good so far mic.  I suggest you change the name though, Futurama Top 100 sounds so... well unimaginative, if I think of anything great, I'll let you know though  ;)

Aslate: Its a 56K modem, on the other side of the world for you.  I'm still harrasing my mum about DSL... she seems to have forgotten 'our little deal' again and the fact that she won't have to pay for a second phone line and it'll only cost a little more per month to get faster net with more downloads  :)

The description box is now a textarea, and the other text boxes are bigger.  They're also nice and clean and in a table.  I've also added the suggested clause.

Winna: If you can think of a good name, I'll use that instead.  But Futurama Top 100 was better than All My Circuits  ;)
