there's a FAQ to tell you how to buy/sell/list etc, i hope it's clear enough. anyway, to buy a share, login first, then click on 'buy' next to Amy's share, and the site will tell you how many shares you are allowed to buy at what price. if you don't want to buy at that price you can always list your buying request at a lower price.

at the moment the system bot is still selling a small amount of shares at fixed price, as soon as that's gone the stock market will be fully influenced by the power of supply and demand  :)

as mentioned above you need to choose the character you want to invest in and buy (max 5,000 shares at the moment).

to see what you've listed to buy or sell, just like on 'selling' or 'buying' under the user menu. but you can't see what others are selling or buying, there'll only be a figure on the main market index board saying how many buyers prepared to buy at what price etc..

Sounds like fun. I'm in. Cool idea, by the way.

Now how many shares do I need to have a majority in a character. Maybe I can force a friendly merger with Leela.  :flirt:

just another tip here, while the popularity of the character is important (since there's only a limited amount of shares floating in the market), you should also consider the potential dividend, which is explained in the FAQ too.

in short it's more difficult to predict popular character's 'possession' in the next episode, because if Fry shows up one second less than last episode, that'll set the dividend to 0% for that round.

on the other hand, character like Santa will certainly create a stir when Xmas is near (but how late can you wait before all the shares are bought and stocked up by others?), because he'll be in the xmas episode few thousand seconds more!! then again, if Fox preempted the xmas episode like it did last year.. well....

yes Bender's the only one going up at the moment, but then you need to pay 3% on the commission as a seller, and provided there's someone wanting to buy at the current price. so it's kind of interesting now.

Make a chat room, and call it a selling floor.
That way people can see who has what and they can discuss deals.

hmmm... not sure if it's legal, but then again what's illegal in stock market  :) i would have people can discuss some 'opinions' in the forum, which is already set up there.

however the buying/selling process is based on first-come-first-serve (i hope i coded it that way  :), so even if you wanted to sell, your shares might not get sold to the person you want to sell to, unless you set at a lower price etc.. well it's for you guys to find out how to take advantage of the system  ;)

thanks! i have just added Morbo and Mom on demand, and am considering raise the limit from 5,000 to 10,000, but then i need to give everybody's an extra $10,000 to play with as well  :)

anyway, my next project is to add some charts/stats for each character, then we might have some other exciting ways to earn credits, stay tuned!

any other suggestions are most welcome!

the first dividend is out, surprisingly an episode that was supposed to be about Bender turned up to give Leela the most dividend  :)

anyway, Bender's price has dropped over $1.00 since, i hope some of you have sold the shares before hand.

Haha. My investment in Leela gave a nice dividend.
And some bender shares went at a reasonable price.

Still, how many shares of Leela do I need to force a friendly merger?   :flirt:

with some new ways to make money, personally i reckon you can make more if few of you form a team and concentrate on one characters, because of the daily most-traded character bonus. dividend should be considered as a bonus but not the best/quickest way to make money  :)

imagine how many people get caught last round holding on to Bender (for the sake of dividend in Love and Rocket), and it dropped from 1.60 to 0.60?  :)

I'll give this thing a go, but I dunno if I'm going to be good at this. Probably go with the insider trading, because in my economics class mock stock market, I bought 1500 shares of Etoys at 2 bucks a pop.  :p Stupid stupid :bangs head against desk:

It's fun, I'm not going too badly.  However, I just wanted to point out that the dividend system needs urgent changes.  As it stands, the dividends are proportional to the value of the shares, and this leaves two problems.

1.  It's possible to manipulate dividends by artificially raising the price
2.  It removes the incentive to buy small characters.  Who wants to buy a small character, when even if they get you 40% dividend in their episode, have that 40% come out to be nearly worthless.  Doubly so considering that most minor characters will only appear once, so that's the only chance to make money.  Basically, making the dividends proportional makes price of shares insignificant, as there is no "bargain buys", as what you earn is fixed to what is paid, or at least what others pay.

If the dividends were made absolute (perhaps 1 cent per share per 30 seconds or something like that), then there is the incentive to buy smaller characters.  Even if they only appear once, it's possible to get them at a bargain price, and stand to earn some cash.

yes there's a loophole to manipulate the price (eg.. wait i'm not going to say how here  :) ) before the dividend is announced.

anyway the formulate of the dividend is subject to change, and it's done weekly manually. i have now changed it to per-share basis, it 60 seconds give you 6 cents per share regardless of the price, let's see if that moves things around  :)

Whoa, that was probably a bit more than I expected.  Though it sure as hell will get a bit of interest going in those smaller characters.

which part is slow? i notice it's slow sometimes too, but other times seem fine. i need to find out if it's something to do with my host or coding.

can you guys please take notice if the slowness always happens in one particular section? it's also possible to be slower when (1) the news is too long, (2) too many characters in one page.

No, it's just slow everywhere.  Doesn't matter what page, or what I'm doing, it's sloooooooow.  Can take minutes to just load a simple page.  Even the forums are super-slow.
