OK, then I give something else to shoot at.

Terel is a very highly appreciated PEEL'er and also the moderator of another Futurama board.Any advice that he gives should be highly appreciated and coveted.

Anyway, if it gets back to FOX and RDS that you're offering downloads of episodes, I promise that a 'Cease and Desist' order will be the least of your problems.

If you continue to give Terel grief for giving you friendly advice, you can be sure your account will be banned.

At this point you've given me no reason to look at your board and several not to.

I'm sure that most of the old timers feel the same way.

I dont join other Futurama forums.

Me neither. In fact, I find it difficult to join other forums any more, PEEL's got something none of them have. I think Ralph nailed it with the word "community".

Group hug?

Okay, now I know a lot of you oldtimers like PEEL's community spirit, but shouldn't we be speading that? What chance does Futurama have if the fans won't unite to a common cause? The Fans cause is to watch and enjoy episodes and spread to word. If we join at different boards we can hold dicusstions with more people.

Take me, when I'm on PEEL I can talk to people like Venus or Spacecase or Ralph, hardcore fans who have been there longer.

On the other hand, on the futurama fanboard, I can talk to The_Black_Smoke and Gurman, aswell as other newer fans who haven't discovered PEEL but have discovered Futurama. It may not be as big as PEEL be I assure you there is a commity spirit there too, the oldtime hardcore fans can mix with newbies and help them.

Don't the older fans have a unwritten duty to reach out to the new fans and guide them? If we have to join different boards to do that, then I say join the boards. It isn't betraying PEEL, it's helping bring forth a new wave of fans.

I don't know if any of you will listen to me, but I intend to join up to different boards and find those new fans, it is up to you whether you come with me.

Your thread? That's a good one!

If you don't want people to reply to a thread, dont't create one. Anyway, I've made exactly 3 posts in this thread: 1 to give you what I believe is constrcutive criticism, a second one to give more hints (and the bumping thing) and finally one to say you're in violation of PEEL rules and that providing free access to Futurama episodes is illegal and in my view against the interests of the show.

If you only wanted to hear "this rulez", "awesome!!!111one" and other yes-men behavior  sorry to disappoint you.

Yeah, silly me for trying to help another Futurama website, by giving some feedback on what I think would make a message board attractive. What on Earth was I thinking? The best way to help other Futurama websites is to ignore them? Must make a mental note of that one.

I don't really care what YOU think of my site. You're just 1 person.

I don't know, you seem pretty worked up about it.

All I know is I've seen many, many Futurama forums pop up over the last 5 years. I tried advicing them all on how I, as a potential member, imagined a messageboard to be like. They all have two things in common: they all reacted exactly like you do (getting hostile and attacking me) and they are all dead! Enjoy.

At one point I thought so too. But then I grew tired of being attacked, flamed and vilfied for not "being a real fan" or "wanting to change everything" (actual quotes from actual debates on now defunct boards). I mean, in the begining I joined every Futurama board I could find. I gave them constructive criticism on what I, as an individual and a member, thought would be the ideal way to organise a board (the first rule: first make a website, then you make a forum). I never said they had to do what I told them, I only sugested it. They all took offense. As I said, they're all dead now. At one point you just stop caring.

As for The_Black_Smoke and Gurman169 they have given me exactly zero reason to join their board and about a zillion not to (primarily the violation of copyrights).

Teral, you have to believe in the greater good here, I know it sound easy for me to say it but I do understand on this.

The people that take offence are in one of two groups, missguided or insecure. The missguided ones think that they know everything. The insecure ones can seem like the misguided but really they're defensive because someone important like you can come seem like you're shooting them down when your not, and it knocks their self confidense.

What we need to do here is carry on believing and trying to seperate the misguided from the insecure and help who we can. Sure we'll get shoot at, but in the long run, i believe that if we can help even a small number of new fans then it will all be worth it. Reach inside yourself and if you can't care for the fans care for yourself, help me help them, and it will all be worrth it.

No offense jle1993, but there's no greater good being served here.  If The_Black_Smoke simply wanted to be part of a community, he can be part of this one.  He found his way here easily enough, and there's no reason why other newbies shouldn't.

Instead he sets up a forum he thinks is going to make him God's gift to Futurama fans, fills it with crap gimmicks, and since he has no community of his own advertises on PEEL to try and leech off ours.  Then when Teral makes some legitimate criticisms, Black_Smoke throws his toys out the pram and attacks him.

No.

We have no obligations to new fans. If they seek us out, then they have followed their obligations to point a. If they choose to integrate themselves into PEEL painlessly and not behave like a Yardstick or a SuperFry, then they have followed their obligations all the way to the end. That is the extent of any obligation.

It is your duty to yourself not to join a thinly-disguised version of the SuperFriends. Because hopefully, PEELers have more respect for themselves.

I think we've gone pretty far in accepting new people into this community anyway, we do go that extra mile, I reckon.  I wouldn't have been here for four years if not.  We were all newbies once.

I agree with Fred, if the forum was so great it'd speak for itself, and you wouldn't be trying to leech members from PEEL.

Also, the messageboard is only the surface with PEEL, otherwise why would we have had UK Meets, European Meets, US Meets, Australian Meets, Trans-atlantic Meets, Worldwide Meets, two PEEL weddings, and one PEEL baby.

Anyhoo, here's a friendly piece of advice from someone who's been half-way around the world meeting people from PEEL.  To create a community takes time, you can't do it overnight.  While I applaud your tanacity in flogging this particular venture, insulting and attacking members of PEEL is not the way to go about it.

You really ought to spend more time here before doing that.  :p

Well, reading through the thread I've seen many many "bumps", that indicated a certain impatience on your part.

You should take Terals advice, allow people to lurk your forum, don't have "elite members", hierachy sucks ass, to be honest, everyone should be the same, regardless of status.

Oh, and register with as many search engines as you can.  Then wait.

If you wanted to advertise properly, what you should do is put a link in your sig and post on various forums.  That way it's not in people's faces, and get integrate into their community while giving your own a plug.

Simple and effective.  Like me, only effective.

in australia it costs $50 for season 2. say you had all the episodes in season 2 on your site.

if 10 people see them futurama loses $500
if 100 people watch it futurama loses $5000
if 1000 people watch it futurama loses $50,000
if 100,000 people watch it futurama loses $5,000,000.
lets say the greedy fox gets 25% (1.5 mil)
futurama gets 3.5 million dollars to make more eps(or split between everyone)

so you little website could cost futurama and associates , $5,000,000 australian(dont get me started if you had every episode    )

No, futurama wouldn't lose money if there was a 15% discount. k-mart would essentially lose money. But more people would buy it because its cheaper and kmart actually earns more money than it loses from the 15% discount. lets say k-mart buys season 2 from where ever they do for $35 and sells it at $50 making $15 but with the 15% discount lets say they make $5. usually 10 people buy it a week so they make $150 but with the discount 50 buy it in one week so they make $250.
