My brother was looking to get one of the "You're Not Paid to Think" tin signs.  He was quite dismayed when one sold for about $100 last week on Ebay.  He obviously doesn't want to pay that much money.  So he sends me an email asking me if these signs are legit:

 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=20909&item=3177286909&rd=1&ssPageName=WD1V

The auction says "officially licensed" tin signs, but I'm not convinced.  I don't remember any smaller 8.5"x6.5" tin signs (the originals being 15.75"x10.5" ) being released by Rocket USA.  Rocket USA's website says nothing about these as far as I can tell.  The fact that the auction says the seller has 224 of them for sale decreases my confidence ever further.

Do any of you know if Rocket USA actually made any smaller signs, or is this just more bootleg Ebay merchandise?

My teacher has one of those hanging by his computer, but it's not tin.

I'm not sure, but the "packaging" for it looks very generic.

Neither "A Big Piece of Garbage" nor "Futurama Collectorama" have them in their sections. They only have the original 15,75*10,5'' signs listed as official merchandise.

Maybe Jon can give a more definete answer, but to me they sound like bootlegs.

Then again the guy have a ton of Futurama merchandise for sale (including 12 wind-up URL toys and hundreds of official-size tinsigns), so he could be a legit retailer.

I think that website may be an old internet left over.  I'm not sure it is an active store anymore.  I couldn't open up their home page.

I don't know what to believe here.  I've never heard of a smaller "You're Not Paid to Think" sign being made. Teral is right though, the seller seems to have a hell of a lot of what look like the legitimate 10.5"x15.75" signs.  The ones he has are signs still listed as for sale on Rocket USA's site ("Work While Bent", etc).

I can't believe how hard to come by this particular tin sign is. Did they just not make as many or something? I've actually got this one, and it's legit too. I remember when I bought it, the shop must have had about another 4 or 5 of them. They no longer have any now, I just wish I'd have bought the lot now...

i dont think that's the package. i think it's just a picture the seller created to use to advertise it.

i doubt it's bootleg, but i still wouldn't buy from this person.

I got 4 tin signs on eBay.  Didn't get this one because they either didn't have it or it costed too much, but the ones I got had the RocketUSA stickers on the back and they looked pretty official.

It seems 4 of the 6 tin signs are still available at a reasonable price if you dig enough.  The two career themed tin signs, the "You're Not Paid to Think" and the "Resist The Career Chip Implant" signs, are the ones that go for insane amounts of money on Ebay.

As you can see in this rather bad picture, I do own this particular tin sign and the background color should be more blue-ish.

I bought then last year and it did take some time until they were delivered. But now they're mine and I won't give them away!    ;)

Is the one you own the same as the 8.5"x6" sign listed in the ebay auction linked above, or is yours the 15.75"x10.5" size?  I'm trying to figure out if the 8.5"x6" sign is legitimate merchandise or not.  The original six signs (including the "You're Not Paid to Think" one) were 15.75"x10.5" in size.

I might be interested in getting some of these signs, does anyone have a current link to a store that sells them legitimately? I looked a bit on eBay but maybe I didn't have the search set up right, or maybe there were not for sale/on auction at that time. Could anybody suggest what I should use in the search categories to get the best chance of finding an aution on this? I am still on training wheels regarding eBay.

Try searching for "Futurama sign" or "Futurama tin".

I've gotten a few of these things off eBay now. Just want to warn anyone who hasn't gpt these and is thinking of getting them this way; these things are really, really fragile. Oh, once you get it it will be fine but if they don't package it extra good you are going to have problems. So far only 1 in three has gotten to me intact, and my sellers by and large tried pretty hard to protect it. They are just a bit too long, you might want to ask your seller to mark them Fragile, and Do Not Bend. You never know, you might actually get a mailman who can read(and gives a damn).
