Why hasn't Katey Sagal done any of the commentaries so far? Is it due to her schedule? Does she not want to do them?  Billy and John have appeared in many of the Commentaries, but no Katey.  Now, I haven't listened to all the commentaries on Season 3, but if they are like the first two DVD sets, then Katey may not be on any of commentaries on season 3.  I think is a shame, I'd love to hear her thoughts on playing Leela.  For that matter how come Lauren Tom hasn't been apart of the commentary as of yet also?

I think Lauren Tom shows up for a Volume 4 DVD commentary, although I'm not 100% sure; what with living in Region 1 and all.

Nope no Lauren Tom on the Season 4 set, although she is on the table read. Tress Macnielle is on some season 3 ones, but is absent from season 4 as well, although Maurice LaMarche is in abundance on season 4, many of the episodes he is not in, but just comes along for the ride

I assume that it's because, unlike the other regular cast members, Katey is actually a working actress in a current show (8 Simple Rules), and so can't take time out to record the commentaries, whereas those lazy bum voice actors types have all the time in the world :P

Sounds like Kazz is on to something there. I wanted to hear Katey Sagal do a commentary as well, mainly for "Leela's Homeworld" or "A Leela Of Her Own".

She's on the table reads though.

Two factors. One, she is a working actress and does other things that consume a lot of time, while the rest are working, but not that many hours. And two, she only voices one characters, while Billy, John, Maurice and Tress voice dozens.

To be honest I dont think I'd particulary care for what she had to say anyway.
as people have said she has live action commitments, and she only does one voice.
and She probably doesn't consider futurama among her best work.

I'm with Uns actually. I can't say I was disappointed that Katey never made a commentary appearance. Though if there was one episode I'd like to have heard her comments on, it would be A Bicyclops Built For Two, just to see what she thought of the MWC homage.

To be honest though, I'd much rather have heard Dave Herman or Frank Welker on a commentary.

I'm with that. Dave Herman is the man. You have to respect his job because he hardly ever does the same voice twice.

There's actually quite a few of the voice actors that dont do commentaries. Katey sagal, lauren Tom, Dave Herman, Phil LaMaar, Kath Soucie, Frank Welker and Bumper Robinson. And Tress MacNeille only does 3 episodes. So, it's basically just John, Billy and Maurice(who doesn't do season 1 or 2). Oh, and dan castellaneta for the last episode.

You think that Katey Sagal would have squeezed some time to do at least one commentary for the last episode or The Sting.

I get that Katey is busy with a tv show and all that, but in a way, so are John Dimaggio (v/a for many other cartoons) and lots of other ppl heard on the commentaries.

I think maybe it has to do with their personal choice. I think John Dimaggio and Billy West enjoy doing the commentaries and are pretty quick witted ppl in real life. Maybe Lauren Tom and Katey Segal don't feel as comfortable doing that.

Shame that, I'd have liked to hear what she had to say about her character and various storylines especially The Sting.

Nope. As a filthy american pig, I have spent the past few days watching all of the commentaries. No Lauren Tom or Katey Segal anywhere.

Ordinarily, I would assume Katey hates the show, or the writers hate Katey. But I could have sworn she appeared at one of the comic cons(can any other nerds confirm this?), so Katey-Futurama relations can't be too bad.

^ that gave me the biggest laugh all day. Of course, I have only been up for 45 minutes...

About Katey: I seem to remember talk of her giving Futurama a plug on a show she was hosting a few months back. If she did that, I doubt she hates the show. It's more likely that being live-action acting just didn't allow for her to participate in the commentaries. Or perhaps it a crazy thing like she is morally opposed to commentaries, like Spielberg.

Get the MWC DVD set (yeah, it's real) and see if she shows up there...maybe she's just not an audio commentary type person.

Katey doesn't hate the show. When she went on the Caroline reia show they talked about Futurama for a while (Caroline reveiled that she tried out for Leela) And when Caroline pulled out the Leela action figure, Katey seemed quite thrilled.

"I love Leela! She's so funny!"

I've read a few interviews where Katey Segal was very enthusiastic about Futurama. She genuinely seemed to like the show. She mentioned being very impressed by Billy West and John DiMaggio and the other voice talent and felt like the odd one out being a straight actor and only doing one part. Also perhaps she really is busy from '8 Simple Rules'. Sitcom's are gruelling to work on. I've seen behind the scenes documentaries on other shows and those actors said they often work 16 hour days.

Yeah like I said, they're not on the commentaries most likely due to personal choice. Of course they don't hate the show, that's just silly.

By personal choice I mean they're probably not into being witty and/or picking apart things from the show. Maybe they're just shy.

^ Tress is great.  I would have wanted to hear Dave Herman. Just the range of voices that he does is what makes his stuff amazing. And he's pretty young, too.

I don't know, David X. Cohen was pretty awesome, with the few lines he had in the AOI2 animatic.

On the 'Devil's Hands' commentary David Cohen says that Segal was so busy on her new show, '8 Simple Rules' that it took them six months to get her to do the last lines for the episode.

Tress is fantabulous!  She obviously has a ton of personality as she was even doing Linda's lines in the commentary over Linda in the episode.  People like her and Billy and John, who live for voice acting, make animation enjoyable as it is.  Katey Sagal, whether she does the commentaries or not, certainly could never hate doing something like this.  She's an excellent actress and performer, and I highly doubt she'd have done the show for 5 seasons and promote it as she did if she hated the job!
