Nonamesleft, I hear ya!!! That would be very very very cool.

I always thought a Zapp and Kif collector's set of figurines would be right on the money.

I've seen color pictures of the finished Futurama figures shown above in Toyfare magazine.  They look pretty nice, especially the robots.

Are these new pictures available online, or do you have the magazine available to scan?

These were released back in October and November of last year and have been listed on my site since then (Anyone still dropping by?). In the next few days I should have some info for you Futurama Comics fans out there.  :)

Woah, woah, woah, hold on there Bendo. Do you mean the figures were released in October and November last year!? Or just those close up images? If you mean the figures, that one slipped by unnoticed, where can I get them?

Sorry for the confusion - the pics were released back in October/November. The figures themselves are slated for release early this year.
Thanks Otis.  :) Be sure to check the Bongo Comics Previews page for Futurama Comics schedule through 2005.

Oooh, thanks for the links Bendo.  Is there any approximate release date for the figures or is later this year as specific as Toynami gets at this point?

In the original press release from last July they said Spring of 2004. Toy Fair is next month and I would bet that a more concrete date of release will be coming out of that. I hope to get some pics from the event as well as some info and will keep you posted.

The style of figures is not intended to be highly detailed like say the MAC figures but rather a standard block type representation of the characters. The style is pretty popular right now with the Marvel Mini-Mates and Kubricks who all have similar block style figures.
Where this line is going to differ from standard block type or blocko style figures (and even from Toynami's standard blocko line called I-Men) is that the head sculpts are more detailed and do in fact represent the characters fairly well. Kubricks, etc typical just do a cylinder for the head and paint on features like facial expressions and features. Check out Toynami's website under their I-Men section for examples of past blocko style figures they have done.
I am of course looking forward to these little guys and hope this is a line that will catch on somewhat so that we see additional figures released. I do agree that the paints from the protoype figures I have seen is not very good and makes me wonder why nobody can do good paint jobs on Futurama figures? The MAC figures suffered from the same gooey gloppy appearance as what these early shots portray from Toynami. Hopefully these are just protoypes and the final versions will be much cleaner.

I'll be picking these up.  I hope they end up being popular enough that companies do more Futurama merchandise.

Don't know how to break this to you Kazza but the robuts are supposed to be packed in with a human. So in order to get all the robuts you more than likely will end up with all the humans as well.

Damn, when are they going to release Futurama figures in a similar style to the Simpsons' World Of Springfield line.
As for the I-men, they're, well, bad. The head sculpts are great (except Zoidberg) and their choice of characters are great, yet some what odd. I mean Roberto and Beelzebot before Amy, Hermes, Zapp, Kif and Mom, now that I didn't see coming. The robots do look robot-y though. Too bad they come packed with humans though. There is no way in hell I'd be willing to pay so much just for just a few figures when I only want 2 or 3. Roberto is clearly the best out of those selections, his sculpt is great and rather odd movement joints still make him look like he did in the show. Calculon also looks great. Beelzebot is in my opinion slightly wrong coloured, he is too red, in the show he was the same colour as Roberto, was he not? Fry looks like the Holophoner Actor of Fry in 4ACV18 and Bender looks okay. Morbo's head sculpt is second best from all the others, yet his body is terrible like the rest of the figures. Farnsworth's head is also good, but again his body lacks greatness. Leela looks like she has being living on that planet with too much gravity from 2ACV02 for a couple of years, and (gasp) she has a flat chest! Zoidberg is just plain terrible, his head design looks nothing at all like him and his body is the worst of the series. Lastly, Url looks rather small compared to the rest, his head is tiny and his body actually looks cool.
So, does anyone know if a second series is planned. Personally, I hope so, so people buying can get more important characters like Zapp and Amy.
Also, does anyone know if these come with accessories. I see Url with a wrong coloured light sabre and Leela with a laser gun, but do the rest come with anything. If Roberto doesn't come with his knife, that's a real kick in the nickers.

Noooooo! Bendo, I thought you told us a while back that Beezlebot was coming in a pack with another robot, can't remember which one. Oh well, might get a pack, might not.

Oh, and in the show I'd say Beezlebot was a fair bit more red than Roberto. Roberto was verging on brown in colour.

First off, I wouldn't want to see Futurama figures in the style of WOS. It is fine for the Simpsons but I would prefer something more in the lines of the MAC figures with great sculpts and great articulation. Plus I don't think Futurama characters really lend themselves to the limited articulation of the WOS figures which have characters that are more bulky and blobby looking.

Regarding the I-Men figures, well they are supposed to have standard bodies so that is why there are no 'articulation' on Leela and others. Regarding the character choice it is my understanding that the reason for so many robuts was a decision that came from outside of Toynami - perhaps DXC or Groening or both. So if you want to blame somebody blame them.
The figures will not come with accessories but some like URL and I think Leela will come with either the saber or a blaster but don't count on that being the norm. The only other accessory is a coin with that characters face on it.
As far as a second series being planned, well you have to buy the first before we get a second and with some of the complaining going on it might not happen.

Kazza, I don't remember the exact distribution but you can find that info on the Day 2 report from last years SD Comic Con which is at my site. The distribution that I gave was the one that was posted at the booth that the figures were shown in.

Ah ha! So I was right! Beezlebot and Bender come in a pack together, two ace robots for £10 isn't bad at all. Think I'll have a look in the Forbidden Planet in Edinburgh next time I'm nearby though, ordering stuff without owning a credit card is just another headache when buying stuff I could get in a shop.

And the angles the photos are taken at at Forbidden Planet make the models look a lot better. Apart from Leela of course, who just looks terrible.
