In the commentary track for "The Devil's hands are idle playthings", at the end, David X cohen says to MAtt Groening that he sould say something about his plan to "save his series" and Matt says "See you on the next DVD set".

This has been recorder in Feb 2003... Did someone heard anything about a new DVD set?

One thing for sure, a whole new "direct to DVD" season sounds great to me.

He just meant that he'd like for there to be more.  But there's nothing definite.

I pretty much assumed it was a half joke, half fevered wish.

We can but hope.

and by definite, he means there won't ever be another dvd set or season or movie, in fact Futurama is dead and had a stake driven through it's heart like a bloody......

They couldn't afford to made a direct to DVD season, Futurama isn't cheap to make.

I think saying "see you on the next DVD" was just gallows humour.

Me too, never thought of it as "gallows humour". Nice phrase.

I know that Futurama is expensive but if you reduce the animation quality a little bit it can get cheaper.

Let's pretend you produce 15 episodes for 750 000$ each... 11.25 millions... then lets say you sell the DVD for 20 or 25$. It's possible to make profit don'T you think?

Maybe I'm being too optimistic!

But who's going to put up the cash to make the episodes? I doubt you could make a business case based on DVD sales alone.

And also (although this may only apply in the UK), you have to remember that a lot of the cost of a DVD doesn't come from production of the discs/show. You've got tax and marketing costs to cover as well.

So stop being optimistic - it's bad for you.  ;)

Why stop with the animation?  Let's get homeless bums to write the scripts, and have focus group attendees to do the characters' voices!

I wish they did dthat, but the effects of the episode is too high. t'll take them a while for them to do a new season. They need to write the scripts tc. So no impossible indeed!  :(

i wish they hadn't spent so much on animation to begin with, then it wouldn't matter.

After watching the commentary, it was a joke. They were just playing about. Grabbing our Futurama wishes and then shutter them over the ground. But that commentary wasn't actually the last, Spanish Fry was. They seem to have become mad when they do the commentarys from season two* onwards, which is probably another reason of Greoning, David X and the rest were just joking.

*It kinda makes them a bit better though.... but I'll shut up now.

Let's all donate. Or rob a bank or something.
Oh well... I don't think Futurama would ever be the same again.  :(

I have an idea! what if everyone went to fox and killed the president, got a face mask from mission impossible and dressed like him and told other people of fox to let futurama back on the air! Lets go!

I liked MrBurns idea. Lets not rob a bank, but lets pretend it's a religion, and give 15% of our paycheck every month for salvation. Kinda like Scientologist do. Hey, this is worth it, 25%. Yeah. And then all actors, writers, producers etc from Futurama do it to. No problem. It will be back on air in no time. hehehe

Each episode around 22 minutes. At 30 frames per second*, 1800 frames per minute, or 36000 per show. 1,000,000 / 36000 = 27.777

Futurama would therefore cost $27.78 per frame (alternatively, $757.58 per second)

So all you've got to do is get 36000 people to donate $30 to produce one episode   :)

*Yes, I know it's 15 for most of it, but I can't be bothered.

I always planned to right an episode script in which it was revealed that I, Zephyrous held the key to all creation. Never gonna happen but worth a shot :-(
