Given that Futurama has a relatively small fan base (despite the fact that I would personally find it quite hard to locate someone who DOESN'T like it) the movie is up against a difficult problem. For wide appeal, they'd have to basically re-explain the premise, and introduce us to the characters all over again. Die-hard fans would be irritated by this covering of old ground, while newcomers STILL may not get it. A dtv movie looks like the most likely option, and seriously, who among us would turn down the chance to see that?
