Should we start making them? I mean, for the people who can't get Season 2 in at least 5 months and Season 3 when Robot Hell Freezes over... Sorry, I ment REAL Hell*. Should we do transcripts?

*In the Hell Is Other Robots deleted scene Fry says that Robot Hell freezes from November (I think) to March.

Are the britain DVDs at all different than the US ones?

El Zilcho:
In content? No.

DVDs from Europe are region-coded to DVD Region 2, while the U.S. is in Region 1. In addition, the UK uses the PAL colo(u)r system, while the U.S. uses the NTSC color system.

Stick a UK DVD in your generic US DVD player/drive and you'll get a Wrong region code error. You can, however, buy Region-Free DVD players with built-in PAL-to-NTSC converters. I don't know of any off-hand, but I'm sure someone could point you in the right direction.

Grim: We already have full transcripts of the episodes! What would be the harm in transcribing the commentary? That's a hell of a lot less copyrighted than the scripts, considering it's not scripted. The real draw of the DVDs is being able to watch the episodes in excellent quality - even those you forgot to tape. The commentary is really only interesting to hardcore fans - in other words, PEELers.

But, let's take a consensus.

It would be nice to see those commentaries, although it IS a bit risky. If it's done, it should be done on a temporary "dummy" site that nobody would miss if it got shut down.

Well, TNP hasn't gotten shut down, what about that site? If the Webmaster would agree...

I was thinking more along the lines of taking 10 minutes to create a Tripod account and uploading a fewof HTML pages (containing the commentaries) and logo that says "FUTURAMA" on it.

Wouldnt hardcore fans just buy the DVDs?

Of course they would. The trouble is, some of us are broke students who can't afford to spend $200+ on a deregionalized DVD player and will have to wait forever for the DVDs since they live in the US.

The commentaries on S2 have subtitles (not sure about S1), so there's likely to be some sort of FOX legal mumbo about the text being copyrighted. I could be wrong.

Oh, and the subtitles are crappy anyway, missing a lot of the subtleties of the banter. But it'd be an easy way to transcribe them, no?

*Subtleties _and_ subtitles in the same sentence? that hurts my brain*

For some unfathomable reason, MVC sold me a copy of S2 which defaults to giving me Italian subtitles everytime I insert a disc. So, I have to correct it "in-flight" whenever I forget to do so from the menu.

Pressing the subtitle button on my remote brings up a list of 8 different subtitle options. Number 6 is the subbed english AC.

7 is the commentary in French, 8 is in Italian!

There may be an easier way to get them BUT I LIKE THIS WAY

Yes, it does work. How shockingly shocking.
I'm currently trying to extract the subtitles and slap them into a text file and post it on my Website. Stay tuned for updates.

I've done 2ACV01 - I Second That Emotion. (From the subtitles.) Season 1 will take a lot more work, but everyone has that by now!   :)

Okay, on a Tripod site, as suggested:
 http://angrydome.tripod.com

What do you think?

If anyone cares, I'd be glad to post my procedures.

EDIT: Oh, and if anyone wants the raw subtitles (not the HTML-ized version) in whatever format, let me know, either by posting or by e-mail!

Anarchist: If you've got a DVD drive in your computer, check out http://www.firmware.fr.st
They might have some RPC-1 firmware. They did for my DVD drive and for my laptop's DVD drive.

Is this site still going? I was thinking of doing a transcript of the alternate RTEW commentary to pad out the featurettes section at TNP but if someone has already done it then obviously I don't want overlapping content.

No I don't really plan to do all of them, just the alternate one and I'll probably do the writing one for Jurassic Bark when season 4 is out.

I saw a mutli-region player for £59 on Amazon. Still not nothing but pretty good value!
