Rise, topic! Rise from your grave like Zombie Jesus! Since us Americaners just got the Season Two DVDs, I skipped over mid-page 2 on so as not to have anything spoiled for me when I get Season Three (American release date: When aliens destroy Old New York). The commentaries for "Xmas Story" and "The Honking" are top-notch. Billy West's story at the end of "The Honking" in which he explains his radio appearance when his threw up on the equiptment is one of the funniest commentaries I ever heard. I forgot who mentioned it earlier on, but they were absolutely correct in stating that the big advantage the S2 boxset had was more Billy West. I'd like to add they get bonus points for not having less of anyone else! Can any of you lovely Region Tooies give your friends on the other side of the ocean a few hints of what's to come with Season Three - IE, upcoming commentators, etc? But no spoilers, please!

My topic. It lives!! Muah-ha-ha-ha-ha....
Maurice Lamarche and Tress MacNeille will join in on several episodes. Both do a great job.
Billy and John does some in-character commentaries as well. Funny stuff.
Other than that it's the usual assortment of writers, directors, producers and whatnot.

Originally posted by BNLbum: Billy and John in-character is always brilliant, and I'm glad to hear there's more of it.
Then you definwtely have something to look forward to, since (for information about what episodes John/Billy do in-character commentaries in look at spoilers) they do the entire "A Pharaoh To Remember" commentary as Bender and Fry. Additionally Billy does the entire "Birdbot Of Ice-Catraz" episode as Zoidberg.

I thought the commentary for PYHOMS was great. I can't comment on many of them because I only own the DVD set for season 2 "So, any inspiration for this episode?" "Ehh...no" "This is the best DVD commentary ever!"

I voted David X. He's got a comic's delivery.
I recall year's back when either PC Gamer or Next Gen featured a cover with the unintentionally hilarious title of "Gaming Gods". And shots of then up and comers like "American McGee", "John Romero", "That other guy who made doom", "Peter Molyneux" etc... and seeing this thread made me dream, nay, fantasize about the cover to DVD Review or perhaps Premiere. "The Gods of DVD Commentaries" We could have the David X Cohen on the cover of a magazine at last along side the king of movie commentaries that "Director of American Beauty Sam Mendes" etc... ahh a man can dream...
no, I really shouldn't.

I only have the season one DVDs, but so far I like Billy West and John DiMaggio's commentary the best. I love their in-character moments. *LOL*

Dammit! I'm not voting! I want to vote for John DiMaggio, Billy West and David Cohen as all of their contributions to the commentaries are fantastic. Especially John DiMaggio's laughter (contagious), Billy West's voices (very funny) and what David Cohen has to say (sometimes funny, almost always interesting).

^^^ Hey, someone mentioned DVD Review! I used to edit that, you know. Anyway, my favourite episode commentaries were the ones where I got mentioned*, which IIRC were 'The Series Has Landed' and 'Where The Buggalo Roam'. The first of those, I was actually on DVD Review at the time, and came out of the viewing room going "Holy shit, they just mentioned me on the commentary!" (Nobody was impressed. Bastards!) *Not by name, but hey, y'know, close enough...

gotamywong.com? I love that site! Originally posted by Pitt Clemens: Futurama commentary condensed:
Matt Greoning: Robots scare me, but I love to draw them. DXC: I have not nor ever will I play Dungeons and Dragons again...I mean, at all! John DiMaggio: Bep Bop Da boo bop ba be bop bam! Scott Vanzo: That was a pain in the ass to render, so we cheated it, and re-used some old models. Susie Diether: I like the colors. Ken Keeler: I got the idea from [incredibly obscure refrence] Chris Tyng: The boo-bams! The Boo-bams! Rich Moore: What's this episode about, again? Billy West: [Various wierd noises] This is what I do for a living, Kids. Truer words haven't been spoken in this thread in a long time. One of the best things is listening to John and Billy talk about the inspiration for the various voices. Like John's inspiration for Curly Joe or Billy's inspiration for the Martian chief, Singing Wind. It can't be described, you have to listen to it yourself. "Lee Chang, hit him in the armpit." See, I told you you had to hear it yourself.

Thought I'd give Rich Moore a mention. Billy, John and David often make up the best points of the commentary, but Rich's role is often underrated. Without him, they'd be missing a heckling target, for one: (from A Pharoah To Remember) Rich Moore: (very slowly) Hello and welcome to another Futurama commentary. This is episode 317, it aired March 10th... John DiMaggio: 2002. Rich Moore: ...2002. Thank you. Billy West: Could you be more specific? Rich Moore: I will try. John DiMaggio: (laughs)Rich Moore:I am Rich Moore, supervising director of the series. DXC: And you used up the whole damn credits. (laughter)(from Futurestock) Rich Moore: I am Rich Moore, supervising director of the series. John DiMaggio: Ahh, Rich, you suck! (laughs)Tress MacNeille: Woo! Rich Moore: Well...John! That's just...plain mean! He also does a very funny David X Cohen impression. "Cut to Benderrr in his apartment."

I thought I'd ressurect this topic in order to make an observation about what I call The Eric Horsted Effect: Why is it that nearly every time a commentary has Eric Horsted in the roster, everyone seems to have less to say? Listen to the commentaries for The Lesser Of Two Evils, Bender Gets Made, Bendless Love, Bending In The Wind and A Taste Of Freedom, all written by Horsted, and notice how many more awkward pauses there are than in most others. What's going on?! Does he just have a silencing aura about him or something?
