So we're finally getting an art book for Futurama. I was sure that one of you guys would've posted this already in my suspicious and dramatic absence, but alas. Unless I'm quite stupid and blind, I didn't see it as a topic.

I've wanted an art book for Futurama since The Simpsons Handbook was published back in 2007. I can finally die happy. Or happier at any rate. The only bummer is that it's only 176 pages. Sure, that's a lot. It's even more than the Handbook. But what if I wanted model sheets for every background character ever, huh?! How will I possibly know how to accurately draw -insert obscure character here-? What if I wanted them to include all of the racy circuit boards Bender gets to see in his mags?

I should do well to remember to get this and review it by year's end. I figured it'd make a lovely Christmas gift for myself. And maybe it'll be a brief kick in the pants enough to get me to make art again, instead of withering away.

It definitely did get posted somewhere but I think it might have just been in the general Futurama news thread.

Either way, it's nice to actually have some easy Christmas gift ideas to give people for me this year.

I’m definitely eager to get the artbook! I remember some of the beta designs were included in the season 1 DVD back in the day, and sadly, I have no access to it anymore. I always wondered if there were more of these early designs.

It’s going to be useful for some art study/practice.

I really would be excited to see the design process for minor recurring characters, as well as main characters besides the big three.   I'd really like to see scrapped early designs for characters.

If I remember correctly, they published a whole bunch of early Fry character designs in Futurama comics that were really interesting. I'd be surprised if those same designs don't turn up in the book.

It was interesting to see Fry's evolution: early designs had him as a grizzled forty something, then then they went for a more cute, youthful look.  Bender and Leela also went through similar evolutions.  I'd be interested to see the early designs of the rest of the crew: we know Amy was originally a tough, butch lesbian before they made her more of a girly girl to contrast her from Leela.   I would also love to see early concept art for recurring and secondary characters.

Cool book!

Is it widely known that Leela was originally "Leila"? I'd not heard that before.

I guess Leela works better as a multi reference: Leela from Doctor Who, Leeloo from the Fifth Element and of course, the Turungalila Symphonie, so maybe that's why they changed it from Lay La to Lee La.
