I have seasons 1 - 4 and the movies on DVD and I'm looking to buy the rest when I found a season 1 with different cover. It's just Fry's face and it's a DVD, but the one I have is a box set of 4 cases and the cover is Fry & Bender in the ship. Was there a re-release?

Well crap, now my collection will look stupid. And I really don't wanna spend money on 4 dvds I already have just for the covers.

I really don't wanna spend money.

Become a hermit, live in a cave, give up luxuries like DVDs.

Otherwise, you're pretty much going to have to spend money on things. I mean, you don't think that DVDs last forever, do you? Eventually they'll degrade or the format will be superceded, and then you'll have to shell out for new ones, or to have them upgraded to sens-o-mat format, or whatever.

Quit complaining, and either spend money to maintain the supremacy of your collection, or just make do with the scraps that you can grab for free.

I personally bit the bullet and bought the new cases about a year ago. They're smaller than the old ones as well, so they're much easier to store.

I wish they'd do the same style for the four movies; that'd be an excuse to have people like Hermes, Mom and Zapp on the covers.

It was only this year that I finally bit the bullet and bought the Futurama discs.  I have all of them except for BBS.

Also, I vaguely recall discussion on Peel about Katey Sagal participating in the commentary for one of the episodes, but haven't come across it, yet.  Perhaps I nodded off at some point...

But (aside from Bender's Big Score), the covers for the dvd movies are fantastic. Plus, if we do get a re-release with different covers, I'd wager it'd be a single collection of all four, particularly given that the four movies are essentially season 5.

I sold my old box sets and got the new covers earlier this year. It looks much better and takes up far less room in my dvd collection, so I think it was worth it.

That's true, and for that reason I'm not terribly fussed if it never happens.

I've still got my old covers actually. I'll probably donate them to the Salvos or something.

I'm still baffled that the Hypnotoad and Morbo got DVD covers while Hermes did not.

The fact that Morbo gets one really annoys my OCD, Linda should have one too.

Yeah, yeah, she's not as popualr as Morbo at all, but still.

I'm not baffled. Hermes is barely recognised by non-Futurama fans whereas Hypnotoad is incredibly iconic; possibly the most recognisable fictional alien toad with hypnotic powers in existence. Morbo isn't quite as well-known, but he's a popular character still.

What they could've done is had Hermes under the control of a Brain Slug, because those certainly have some fame.

The problem with them is that the disks go in those paper sleeves, meaning that they have to get rubbed up against the case every time you take them out or put them in.

Mine aren't in paper sleeves. They're in those cases that have a plastic thing in the middle that fits an extra two spots for discs, making a total of four crammed into a normal-sized DVD case.

I'd be pretty pissed off if they came in paper sleeves.

Mine fit into slots cut into the cardboard folders -- not very fancy.  But they fit rather loosely, so I'm not too concerned that they'll get scratched when inserting or removing them.

Region 1 (the U.S.) gets the cardboard box sets. Region 4 (Australia) gets regular dvd cases. It's like this for most tv shows. I was unaware that region 1 had been re-released with lesser quality cases, however. I import all of my American shows from the U.S. (I hate the 4% speed-up with PAL - it sounds like every character has ingested helium) and the only time I've encountered such an issue was with one of the South Park dvds, which I simply returned and then tracked down an original release instead.

Amazon UK seems to have the older style covers for the first four seasons, and in HMV I've only ever seen the old style covers, although admittedly in the thinner style cases than when originally released. Or am I missing something here?...

Amazon's preview images aren't necessarily indicative of the version you're going to get, particularly if the re-release possesses the same serial number as the original (as I came to learn with the South Park dvd mentioned earlier).

I'm still not convinced these news style covers are UK covers. Maybe in America and Australia they are, but I was in HMV Cheltenham today and they still had the old style for Season 4 and they didn't have any of the others...

Can anyone confirm, have you seen any of these new style covers for Seasons 1-4 with BBFC age certificate ratings on them? If they are UK covers they would have BBFC age certificate ratings on them just like the old style covers had...
