I also don't like the variants, and I really don't want to buy them any time soon, myself. The only one I'd actually want would be the Gender Bender, as it's a very worthwhile variant, even if it only appeared in one episode.
I think the only reason Toynami made so many Benders was because they sold well, especially since he's one of the more recognizable charatcers. If you just became a fan of the show, or if you just striaght-up liked robots, you'd probably buy any of the Bender variants just to own one. It was a poor choice from a fan of the lines point of view, but a good one from a company's point of view.
See I think Bender sold very well.. soo well they encored him twice. I think his variants chef and wooden Bender came at the end of the line after all the regular Bender's sold great and helped kill the line. Wooden Bender has my vote for worst Toynami Futurama figure, it's dinky and very flimsy, even though I love that episode and enjoy having the figure more than Chef Bender.

I freakin' love Nudar. If a toy line is to survive a long period of time, they need to make varients, repaints and b,c,d etc list characters. Some one time characters are characters that I want figures of the me most, Destructor was one of them and Slurms Mckenzie is another.
Nudar was one of the best made figures, I absolutely love him. Plus we nevergot that many aliens so Nudar was a BIG plus, in my book. The Destructor was a great choice too in my opinion, it's awesome to have a giant character and he was the best giant character that they could have done.
I think URL and Wooden Bender were the worst figs they made, URL is a pretty boring character and the fig of him isn't very good (it's the worst likeness out of all of them), and Wooden Bender was just a bad idea even though the fig is quite cool. It's probably made worse by the fact that URL was such a weak character. I think if they'd have made the series Wooden Bender and Lrrr then we wouldn't look at Wooden Bender in such a negative light.
It's a shame that they never did some quite important characters like Cubert, Scruffy and Sal but if we got Lrrr, Morbo, Flexo and the Robot Mafiathen I'd be very happy with what we had.

I Like the URL figure, myself. Sure, there are some aspects to it that can be easily nitpicked, such as the seemingly lower-quality plastic used to make him, and how his head is a little bit too loose, but as I said, those are strictly nitpicks. There's way more good aspect to the figure than there are bad ones, at least in my opinion. He's painted very accurately, his sculpt is very screen accurate, he actually came with a worthwhile accessory, and he really stands out. I'm sure if he was never actually released, alot of people would be saying how much they want him, as he's one of the more noticable B charatcers. As for Smitty, I really only think he'd work as a Two-pack with URL or some sort of Build A Figure, as He most likely would be a weak seller on his own. There's not anything really visually exiting about him, so I doubt any casual collectors would really want him. Did nudar come with the doomsday device or even a doom proof vest?
Sadly, no. He only came with his Ray-Gun, which fits in his Right (?) hand. I'd have loved it if he had came with the Sphere-O-Boom, but alas, he didn't.

Wow Im completely different from all of you, I love the benders I try and get as many as I possibly can, I thought wooden bender was a great idea, I thought he was well made and I was happy to see a bender that had some thought go into him... Human bender would be nice though I'm with you too, am happy with most of the Benders. And Wooden Bender is one of my favourite figures in the whole line. I take some credit for him, since I suggested him on this board long before Toynami made him (so blame me! haha ). And for the record, the Benders didn't kill this line. I once discussed this with a hobbyshop owner and he was all for the Bender variants, to him they were always popular and he'd happily stock as many as they wanted to make. Now would I have rather had Morbo and Lrrr ahead of some variants? Sure, but variants of the most popular characters are a normal part of any toyline, yet people will always complain that it is what kills a line. I don't buy that. If it was true, toy companies wouldn't keep doing it over and over again.

Personally, the only variants I could have done without are the three superfriends figures (or whatever they're called) - with only six slots then in a BAF wave, having three variants was way too much. Those super friends should have been a box set, freeing up valuable slots for other figures (like Morbo and Lrrr for starters). But Toynami didn't learn and was going to do the same with Robot Mafia - just as bad an idea even if the figures are nice. To me that was one of the earliest nails in this line's coffin. By taking a wave and putting half your eggs in one basket with this threesome, right off the bat anyone not interested in them is going to pass on half the figures you're putting out. You're digging yourself a hole. And the next nail in this line's coffin, which is related to the super friends, is the still inexplicable decision to me by Toynami to sell Robot Santa as an SDCC exclusive. The Robot Santa BAF wave was already on shaky grounds with the super friends slots, then to announce before that wave is even all out, that you're going to offer the BAF to anyone who wants it at SDCC, just cut the legs out from under that wave. And it was a real slap in the face to people who were loyally buying all the figures and building the BAFs, while at the same time making it easy for others to pass on figures like the super friends. Maybe that was the beginning of the end for the BAFs, as casual buyers might have figured other BAFs would be released as exclusive (though it didn't happen). And ultimately ending the BAFs was stupid. This is the only line where I've bought every figure and that was really driven by the BAFs.

HO-REE-SHEET! That's amazing! I sriously wonder who made that?!? They need to work at Toynami! When I first saw that picture, I thought it was actually a new figure, and almost freaked out. But it's even cooler that it's fan made! That's awesome. -EDIT- Well, I've got some cool news about the Crushinator. I know we saw a prototype a few years ago, but the excitement about the figure ust kind of faded away. Well, get excited again, as the Figure was seen in all it's glory behind everyone in the Futurama Live! show. Here's a picture; Now, I know just seeing the figure doesn't mean they're going to release it, but I doubt they'd display a fgure that they're not going to release. Maybe we'll see her soon! It looks like she's attached some sort of Gray Base, to me. Maybe she'll be made of some kind of metal, kind of like the old Paperweight Bender. Her scale is great, too. Just like Destructor, it'd be cool to see her tower over all the other figures. What does everybody think?

Maybe we'll see her soon! you sir, are officially retarded. wheres morbo? wheres lrrr? wheres the robot mafia? morbos been in the works since the second line. he was supposed to be relased YEARS ago. that kickstarter, while a good idea seeing as the limited run exclusives sell out quickly, hasn't happened. its september seventh and wheres the fcuking kickstarter? oh yeah, hasn't even been talked about. now I dont have a facebook/twitter because I know everyone that I talk to ona daily basis in person and dont really find a need for social networking but I check the toynami facebook once n a while and it just solidifies my, now, hate and disgust for them. they are sh!t so for you to get your hopes up about crushinator who's not as IMPORTANT as morbo and lurr, isnt in as many episodes as the mafias a hilarious joke on yourself. and ive been collecting this line probably longer than you. so yes, I know what I'm talking about. l o fcuking l.

You're officially the stupidest, most disrespectful user on this forum. Not only are you calling me retarded, but you're also saying that my opinions are wrong because they aren't the same as yours! Who the hell are you to say my thoughts are wrong? Also, what does it matter that you've been collecting longer than I have been? That doesn't mean that your opinions are the only ones that count, idiot. Learn to respect others, man. Becasuse you look like a total jacka** when you repeatedly do crap like this. Yes, I know that was disrespectful, but I'm just showing him how it feels.

Would there be any legal issues if some one were to sell futurama copies?
Sell it how? Like if another company picked it up, or someone did it privately?

It depends on the goodwill of the copyright holders, as the characters are protected by copyright and it doesn't matter even if you were to sculpt a character for your own private use. I'm guessing that most wouldn't care about the occasional figure, as long as it wasn't a business.
Some copyright holders would just as soon see you skewered and roasted over a pit of lava. The International Olympic Committee and the heirs to Tolkien and Dr. Martin Luther King come to mind.

I'm guessing that most wouldn't care about the occasional figure, as long as it wasn't a business. This is true. Most companies turn a blind eye to fan-produced items and some actually encourage it. For instance, I also collect Marvel Universe figures and there are a ton of talented customizers making and selling customs (I've bought several). And the powers that be on Hasbro's Marvel team used to talk openly at Comic Con panels about customizers and how they'd sometimes make figures with an eye to what customizers could do with them. A mature company recognizes that this kind of thing just deepens the connection of fans to a given toyline, making the experience more interactive. There are many customizers that actually do make a business out of this and apparently a living off it. Where I think they'd run into trouble is if they started mass-producing individual pieces, so that it shifted from one-of-a-kind pieces of art to something else. So far I have only ever seen one custom Futurama figure for the Toynami line (sober Bender), but have seen many for the Kidrobot figures, which is common with Kidrobot.

I'll give Toynami about two more weeks before I consider the Morbo figure dead, myself. Honestly, though, I don't think we'll be seeing him or any of the others anytime really soon. Hopefully it doesn't take three years to see them all on the market like it did for Gender Bender, though. That's just way too long of a wait for me... Well, at least Kidrobot's still making Figures, even if they are in that odd super-deformed style. I'd love to grab that Kidrobot Hedonism Bot and display him with my regular Toynami figures.
