Bad news, everyone...

Spoke to Fox on Friday, and was told the date for the Season 2 DVD boxset has been put back from September to November.   :(  I think it's November 11th, but that's still to be confirmed.

(And Back To The Future's been put back to December as well. Dammit!)

Somehow, I'm not surprised at all, and the scariest part is I'm not even disappointed. I mean it's FOX we're talking about, and the're infamous for this.

Did they give any reason?

Always delays.  The Simpsons DVDs get pushed back all the time, why not Futurama?

Perhaps FOX saw what a good job Paramount of doing of releasing TNG, and being FOX, decided to do the exact opposite.

Well, that would put it in line with the R1 release.

Interestingly Fox appears to be releasing just the first of the films on DVD in September and (according to my source) the box set on the 2/12/02

The Voices is right.  Sure, the DVDs being held back are a sod, but we've been waiting six months for them already, so I don't think a few more weeks is gonna kill us.

Damn posted it in the wrong thread, see this is what happens when you have ywo similar threads. Any way like I said in the other thrad you can pre order series 2 in the uk on two sites www.blackstar.co.uk  and www.dvdworld.co.uk  both saying the release is 30th September. They may be confused but at least you can pre prder it.

Buy the Region 4(Australian) BTTF boxset. It also is Region 2 encoded and is out in August.

I'm getting it for £17.99 from www.cdwow.com

Bad news about the Futurama DVDs. I did expect it though, after all the months of waiting for the Simpsons.

Yes, all 4 seasons will (eventually) be released to DVD due to the exceptional sales of the first season.

You forget that FOX's logic is not like our Earth logic. They'll probably discontinue the sets because of their poor sales in America.

Just out of interest, payndz, what DVD magazine do you work for (you do work for a magazine, right?). Just wondering cos I buy probably 2 DVD mags a month.
If you're not allowed to tell me/us or some unknown reason don't worry, as I said I was just curious.

True.  I live in Kansas and will not be purchasing it in America because I cant, so I will buy it from the UK.  I blame FOX for contributing to our economy problems.

Buying from germany is probably cheaper right now.

Anyway, towards this thread: The Season 2 DVDs will be released Nov 7th in Germany. SO, 4 days earlier than in the UK.

Hey America!  Go buy the set!  It's really cheap for us.  Not only is it a terrific deal anyway, we're outside the European economic area, so we don't pay sales tax.  With shipping it's gonna be $34.01 USD.

If you don't have a region-free player yet you should get one.  They're pretty cheap on eBay.  Or, if you already have a nice region 1 machine then get a used DVD-ROM drive to use for dedicated region 2.
If you get one that's <= 4x and download DVD-Genie then you can make your computer region-free.  Drives that old can be had for like $20.  [Leela's Boss]NOW GET TO WORK![/Leela's Boss]

Edit: Also, make sure you use one of mArc's Amazon links so he gets some money.

DVDs pre-ordered.  :)

Just one thing - is a 45% discount actually a good thing?  I know it's good for our wallets, but why is Season 2 so cheap?

Probably because the sets cost less than $20 to produce and distribute, the rest is profit margin.  They're decreasing their profit-margin to make sales kick up, hoping they'll make more money that way.
