I'm sure a member of the general public would be just as likely to buy a gold bender as they are a normal one.
Maybe.  I still think paint variants cater more to collectors.
Gold Bender is a good example, though, of a variant that probably could sell well.  I bet Bender figures sell very well in general.  I wouldn't be surprised if Chef Bender and Wooden Bender sold better than URL, Nudar and Mom.
Like in the WOS Simpsons line, there was often a Homer or Bart figure and those did sell well in that line.

Yeah... well if something like Chef Bender sells well, a simple Gold Bender would surely sell well.

Repaints > Encores.

Nudar was in one movie, I don't even see why they released that figure over Morbo or Lrrr.

What, no love for Nudar?  :p I can understand how people were annoyed at getting him, ahead of so many older and more loved characters.

I definitely wish it was Morbo or Lrr sitting on my shelf ahead of him. But that said, I like Nudar, I think he makes for a fun, cool-looking figure. He's pink, he's naked and he's flabby, what's not to love?  :laff:

I'm just happy to have another alien on my shelf. A strange thing about Toynami's line is that for a scifi show, we haven't got many aliens.

That's another reason I was looking forward to Morbo and Lrr - to balance out the aliens and the bots on my shelf. All the more reason we need these two great characters made!

Yeah kinda weird getting him over so many others, but I don't mind him. Just like everyone else here I'd be okay with repaints of past figures if it helps, and would love to see Morbo and Lrrr. But most of all I want a Scruffy figure with his broom and Wash Bucket lol

I love Nudar.
He was the only real main villian Futurama has actually had; besides Mom and Robot Santa.. but I don't count them as true villians.

He was the first Toynami Futurama figure I ever bought, and how I discovered that an entire line of Futurama toys were being made.

Nudar forever, amen.

Didn't Nudar get released to promote the new movie?

Either way, it's awesome having a movie only character. And he's one of the best looking figures that they made.

Repaints > Encores.
Although Golden bender WOULD be an encore figure since Toynami made him already.  So he'd be out, but maybe they could release another Bender with different eyes and mouth again?  Or alternate universe Hermes & Amy?
Over all the possible repaints, honestly, I'd prefer encores of Zoidberg*, Zap and Gold Bender  ;).

*I know Toynami would have to spend a little to make the coat and claw molds of Zoidy, but I think it'd be worth it- that's my main point.

I personally think Zoidberg would be a great figure to reissue as an encore. It depends on how much it would cost to get the molds made but I think it would be a money maker. On Ebay, series 1 Zoidberg figures have sold for around $50 with no stethoscope and in less than great condition. I would suggest selling them MSRP for at least $20. If it's feasible, I would throw in another accessory like the guinea pig that lured Zoidberg in the Anthology of Interest episode or one of his favorite garbage foods or a large anchovy... Something that might not only appeal to collectors (has something new) but still be the original Zoidberg that is very desirable.

If a swimsuit Leela was made, I would like to see her in a different swimsuit than the one made by Moore but would get a swimsuit leela no matter what.

I would think an encore Zoidberg would be CHEAPER than an all NEW figure, because they have 2/3 of the molds made already.
A new accessory would be great, Craylauren!
I hope Toynami will consider this as an option.

a reissue gloriousgolden bender would be a waste since it was an exclusive. but I'm all for a new zoidberg, everyone loves that loveable tramp.

and I know thatll make all those who don't have a glorious golden bender irritated, but if yall wanted one so bad, you'd buy it regaurdless of the price. stop being cheap.

Got my encores of Fry and Prof. today.

Fry looks different from the others previously released, just different colored paint apps.. his skin is quite dark when compared to my MAC Fry.

@nacirema.

The GGB isn't actually part of the official line, and doesn't use the same molds as the rest of the Benders. It doesn't fit in. So there's no harm in them making a proper one.

Yeah, I'd be fine with a Glorious Golden Bender Encore, too.  He'd be a different sculpt than the original, but he wouldn't need a new mold, just different paint.
He's been released already and since it's a different Bender mold, collectors of the first released GGB would still have something unique and rare.

It would be excellent if the next two Encores could be Zoidberg and Golden Bender.  Those would sell amazingly, IMO.

MuchAdo- do you have any of the previous Fry figures from Toynami?  Just curious because they've adjusted the skin tone and hair color on previous Fry figures also (from the MAC one), just curious if this is another tweak in paint application or just different from the MAC Fry.  :)

I want it, but not for this price.

It'd be different if the extra money was going to the company itself. But it's not. It's going to greedy resellers. So let the product sit on their shelf for all I care...that's just unreasonable. And I doubt it will ever sell for that, even if someone really wanted it.

I ordered a Golden Bender bobblehead a few months back for $30, I sit him on top of my cabinet so you can't even see the base. He will suffice for now :D

Exactly... fuck 1000 dollars for a little toy that will never be worth that.. ever.

Anyway, everyone may want to know that the new encore Fry is almost as dark as Hermes.

So I guess you need to buy it to feel complete, I mean, does everyone already have a summer time tanned Fry?

Happy variant-mas.

Damn, that sucks. I already ordered two of them from BBTS. Why can't they get the colors correct? I saw one pic on ebay, it does look darker compared to the original Toynami Fry.  I already own the MAC version, but wanted to get a Toynami Fry for a decent price this time.

Same here, I was shocked when I saw how different the colors were compared with the MAC Fry and Captain Yesterday.

Oh well, his jacket also seems darker and his pants are much lighter than MAC Fry.

More reasons just to go ahead and get every version.. ever.

_____________________________ _____________________________ _______________

Anyway I had a thought... why does Toynami not try more repaints AND encores of core characters that have totally new accessories.

Be honest, how many people would buy a Prof. encore if he had totally new accessories such as; assorted lengths of wire, fing longer, and instead of Nibbler... Guenter.

Molding tiny things can't cost as much as the big guy.

This way collectors and general consumers are interested, win win.

I think new accessories would be great.  But like everything we discuss about new/altered releases, I have no clue how likely any of it is.

MuchAdo, can you tell if Professor's balance is any better?  Mine stands fine unless you put his arms up and I remember reading some reviews that his balance over all wasn't so great.  A few suspected it was from the packaging and placement of his feet in that.  I don't move my Professor too often, so I don't run into many issues, just curious.

A few suspected it was from the packaging and placement of his feet in that.

So strange that you'd mention that chum!
My new Prof. is the worst figure to balance that I own.
And it's obviously a case of 'shit happens' or 'dumb luck' with the package.

His one foot is coming up in the front and his other is going back and the heel is off the ground (like a natural stride or gait).

But it almost looks likes he's walking... so I kind of like it.
And if I put his arms out and up he balances.. precariously.
It is most def. a case of placement in the box v.s. the molds feet getting reformed in a stange way to fit in the box.

Oh, well...
I've got a Prof. and a overly tanned Fry now.
The little Nibbler is perfect though, LOL.

But seriously I'm just glad to have them and not pay $100.00+ for each figure.

I had a series 7 set pre-ordered at BBTS late in the game, waited for months... and then it got canned.
So a solo Hermes was the only one I could get for a decent price months back.

The funny thing is that one day I know.. I'll bite the bullet and pay serious money for all the figures I still need to finish my collection.

I just pulled the trigger on a Series 2 Leela figure since it was only $34.99  shipped.

And this leads me to a question for Sculptboy;
What are the odds Kif, Zapp and Leela will be getting encores?

Since Toynami went right to the Prof. for the next encore does this mean the figures mentioned above are missing mold pieces just like Zoidberg??

Just curious for the information, thanks!

Today I've got the Fry encore version 2. Compared to my pictures of encore Fry version 1, I don't see any differences neither for the figure nor the package. I will put them both together in a few weeks to see if the skin color really differs.

Does anybody know about any other differences?

I think Toynami's plush line is a pile of dog shit. They're just not that cute to me (Kif and Nibbler aside), plus they're made of what I feel are cheapo materials (at least for wave 1; I like the super soft fabrics all toys are made of nowadays called 'minky' by artists who use it for their own stuffed animals). As for the Encore figures, I wouldn't be shocked if they just repacked the exact same figures without alterations whatsoever to make them more color-accurate to the show. Saves money and time to simply keep producing them as they were when the line began I'd think. The only major difference is that the encores don't have build-a-figure parts included.

I agree with PZ, I was disappointed by the cheap material used on the plush (and believe me, I know my plush lol. Their designs themselves weren't TOO terrible, but the recent ones, like hypnotoad, icccccck I already have a frog who looks more like hypnotoad than that garbage and it's a TY. The kidrobot hypnotoad is amazing compared to Toynami's take on it. And the price Toynami charges for it is absurd, I don't know. I'm gonna have to think about it before I buy those new plush...
