Hey guys, I have this really awesome Futurama art piece that is beautifully framed and number 1 in a series of 150. It's cool as hell and I hate to part with it, but I'm saving for a trip to Europe in a few months and selling it would fund about 1/2 of it.

It's up on eBay right now, check it out

I don't think many people will spend 500-1000 on a poster from an ebay member with 20 feedback and not doesn't even have 100%

Anvil is probably right...I wouldn't, anyhow. But I am not interested in those super expensive sort of memorabilia.

edit: Oh Wow I just noticed the shipping cost...that is...very high...

I suppose that's what you get when you want to mail a big heavy breakable object worth 500-1000 dollars.

I'd buy for $50, but a minimum of $500? Really?! You're trying to sell to people who are very smart and sophisticated, not jackinapes! :nono:

Look at their other auctions, nothing is that high in shipping. Even the 200 dollar item was only 10 bucks shipping.

As a seller myself, I am a little insulted when I see that. I offer free shipping on all my auctions - you get an automatic 5 stars for shipping rates and I think people in general appreciate it. If shipping will really be that high, maybe make the item higher to start, like $530 and eat half the cost - typically what I do. But the profit on that auction is so ridiculous I would imagine, I would just offer free or cheap shipping...my 2 cents anyhow.

A lot of selling threads have popped up lately by newbies, maybe it would be a better idea just to make a general, stickied "for sale" thread in the stockroom?

Good idea.

That is insanely expensive. I don't think you'll find anyone willing to pay such a huge amount for something like that.

This idea is good and you should feel good.

I like this idea as well, but will it help prevent new threads being created by newbies (who seem to register solely for the sake of selling an item on eBay)?

If my observations are accurate, perhaps it would be better to add a notice to the PEEL registration page for the next few months encouraging people to not sign up for the sole purpose of selling an item on eBay. Or maybe I'm an idiot. You choose!

Well that's why I suggested it be a sticky thread, when they look up to make the thread they'll see "ANY ADVERTISEMENTS HERE" type of thread. I don't think it will completely stop it, but I can definitely see these kinds of threads being minimised a fair bit as a result of a general thread.

There ought to be a post count limit for advertising selling stuff on here.

You're an idiot. Bianca's idea is win. We should have all "I AM SELLING THIS THING" posts unified in a single thread, and the moderators should merge all the selling threads that n00bs post into it from now on.

I think it might be a good idea to implement a policy where only people selling official merchandise privately (ie: not bulk selling of things like bootleg goods, not bulk reselling of offical merchandise, etc) is permitted. I can see this sudden rash of eBay sellers turning into a slew of people whoring their pro eBay shops on a regular basis here, which would get annoying really fast.

That said, I rarely check out the Stockroom with the specific intention of buying anything, and can't see myself ever thinking that PEEL would be a great place to sell something. So perhaps I'm biased.

Where better to sell Futurama merchandise than the world's foremost Futurama message board? Particularly the portion of it devoted to talking about Futurama merchandise? Registration is fast and free of charge. If I was peddling Futurama merchandise, I'd consider this to be an excellent place to advertise.

I also agree with the part about not letting it get too commercial. If someone was going to promote an actual business business here, they'd have to talk to [-mArc-] about payment for the advertising space. And I'm not sure he'd agree to anything anyhow. He likes having the place advertisement-free.
