I have a 20 something inch TV in my room, I think 22", it's HD Ready, the HD cable is plugged into my PS3 and the TV.

I have a CRT, but it's 1920x1080i and DVDs played on my progressive-scan DVD player look pretty nice.  All I need are Futurama discs, eh?

Well, I was talking about old CRT TVs with low resolution... :D

From http://hometheater.about.com/od/televisionbasics/qt/1080ivs1080p.htm

Quote
In 1080i each frame of video is sent or displayed in alternative fields. The fields in 1080i are composed of 540 rows of pixels or lines of pixels running from the top to the bottom of the screen, with the odd fields displayed first and the even fields displayed second. Together, both fields create a full frame, made up of all 1,080 pixel rows or lines, every 30th of a second.

In 1080p, each frame of video is sent or displayed progressively. This means that both the odd and even fields (all 1,080 pixel rows or pixel lines) that make up the full frame are displayed together. This results in a smoother looking image, with less motion artifacts and jagged edges.

You'll see a DVD smoother in a 1080i TV because it shows less lines per frame (half) so you're watching the DVD in 540 lines.. in an 1080p TV, you're watching the full 1080 lines instead on each frame.. so the DVD image has to be expanded more and will look more pixelated

News everyone!

After much thought and contemplation, I decided to cancel my DVD order (yet again) and order the Blu-Ray instead. But even more news! I'm gonna get a Blu-Ray player for downstairs too at Xmas! HD Blu-Ray Futurama awesomeness upstairs and downstairs! Everybody wins! :D

My TV can display 540p natively, along with 720p and 1080i.  I have done some critical viewing tests (had a few beers while skipping around on the Star Wars and Lord of the Rings DVDs) and for my TV only, the image out of the DVD player at 540p looks to have the best end-to-end resolution when the TV upscales to 1080i -- barely.

Please don't do that again. Every time you post about news, I get excited because I expect news. You know, something about the special features or possibly even news that all of season 6 will be included on this release.
Instead I'm treated to a story about how you canceled your DVD order or something. If you put "Good" in front of it, I might have excused it as a quote.

Yes. :D

Also, to the guy complaining that there's no diference between Futurama in SD and HD (can't remember the user/where they posted it, can't be arsed finding it in this thread), there is a huge difference.

The stem cells are really pink and nicely coloured in HD, but in SD they have a nasty grey tint to them, it's awful.

The link takes you to a page with this image:

But Eric Rogers confirmed that he is in the Frequently Axed Questions featurette. :D

Just came out today, fryfan. Looks like Wal-Mart has it cheapest at $19.96, with Best Buy a close second at $19.99 (and yes, I had Best Buy price match Wal-Mart for the three cents. It was awesome. All you do is show them the price online on your phone, and they'll do it).

I didn't get to open it until just now, but the opening playscreen scene is really, really cool, I love the music they use...makes it seem like a big blockbuster movie type deal.

Well, they show the NY tube system and have the camera pan slowly around one with scenes from the episodes playing inside the tubes. It switches at one point to follow the tube over Statue of Liberty, which is silhouetted along with the NY skyline. It is very different from the original Futurama dvd openings up to Volume 4. It's more set up like Volume 5 playscreen but I like it even more...

I don't recall if they used that music in an episode, but I really really like it. Could definitely loop it and listen to it for a long time.

edit: Ohhh, it's the music from the Tron seqence of Law and Oracle. That's why it feels all movie-like heh.

I got my copy today. :)

The deleted scenes were interesting. Wish they'd stop hitting Fry with a bus lol

The Farnsworth extra is "Science of a scene". It was interesting too. It takes a year and 25,000 pics to make an episode

"Reincarnation Explained" is about the design of the episode and inspiration

The episodes are pretty good. "Fry Am the Egg Man" is still my favourite episode. I got more Fry in his underpants in this season so I'm very HAPPY. Hoping the next season brings more JOYJOY

The box design is neat.

Some of the questions:

I knew someone would ask about Fry and Leela. I got really nervous since yeah, I love him too but they said "Yes" and "No" so I dunno what to think about that.

A staff writer said they'd try to include an element of Leela and Amy either kissing or sparring almost naked into new episodes so let's see what happens. They wanna make the fans HAPPY

So it means "No" after all? Sad :(.

They've done it already (sparring - "Jurassic Bark", kissing - "Bender's Game").

I meant again. lol Someone asked if they'd do it again and that was the reply

...Except F/L shippers ;).

It's clear that the creators probably think they're like fire and water. They clash. I think that too

I'll have to check out the commentaries one day. I usually don't listen to them but probably gonna have to check out the ones on Volume 6 some time

Yeah, the F.A.Q. was neat. Zoidberg won't eat brown crayons, compact fluorescent light blubs, and tofu lol

Virtually every answer to any of the questions in that piece is a joke (Josh Weinstein does give a fairly sincere "I used to be a dorky fan of this show asking stupid questions before I started working on it, so it's okay" answer to one of them). I wouldn't take any of them seriously.

Picked up this set, but haven't gotten to dig into it enough yet. Watched about half the commentaries and that featurette. What's there is good as always, but it does seem like the special features selection is lacking this time around. The other DVDs all felt like they were really packed with stuff. I guess it's hard to complain about it though when there's commentaries on every episode, but there's still some other stuff that I'd love to see. And I'm really bummed they cut the Christopher Tyng thing!

Anyone find any easter eggs, though?
