Bump! The commentaries were amusing, as always (though I missed Ken Keeler). I did notice that, in the episodes where they recorded the commentary after the airdate, the writers were particularly defensive about all the things us dang fans were critical of (however, I liked that DXC admitted to how flippin' derivative the Land Titanic was; I just felt such vindication). They just do not seem to like us people out here in Internet Land...though I suppose I can't really blame 'em. We are some picky, picky nerdlingers 'round these parts.
I’ve only just now opened up my Volume 5 DVD set and listened to the commentaries (shocking, I know), but since the staff got defensive about the Internet reactions at certain points, I’m feeling rather defensive as well. No, they don’t mention PEEL specifically and there are other boards out there, nor do they call out anyone in particular (which is decent, I suppose), but at each mention of a reaction I remember seeing posts that could match the description. In the commentary for “That Darn Katz!” Claudia Katz says there was speculation on whether she factored into the episode in some way beyond producer, and you know, I remember that speculation! Billy West’s thoughts on obnoxious posters afterwards in that same commentary irked me since the example dialogue he gave wasn’t even a great example of obnoxious behavior (though he did perform it in a profoundly obnoxious way). Completely denouncing an episode based on a teaser is silly, yes, but expressing concern that one might not like where an episode might be headed based on teaser material (and the tone of previous episodes) is not, nor is coming back later to praise the episode after seeing it (what, people’s opinions can’t be changed? Actually liking an episode is more obnoxious than hating it now?). There did seem to be some people who just couldn’t be pleased with anything in the new episodes and didn’t seem to give them a chance and yes, that was sometimes frustrating to see (although maybe they truly found the show to be just too different since its return), but most of us had things we liked and things we didn’t like, and as is to be expected, those things were rarely universal. The season so far has had both some brilliant moments and some really stupid or irritating ones, so I don’t like that we should be derided (although at least it’s not us but the entity they call “The Internet,” which is a much easier target) for expressing our opinions, especially if this is a place where they actually could (and apparently do) find a decent amount of feedback. Aren’t most of us being picky not because we just want to destroy, but because we care? And yes, Ken Keeler was missed. Is that true that he doesn’t like commentaries? He seemed to be a great contributor to those in the original seasons.

I totally agree with the annoyance, Tedward. I'm not saying the writers should be oh-so-gracious, since fan support brought the show back--but it stands to reason that they want to produce the best show possible and would therefore be receptive to criticism, at least when it is constructive. Like you say, there are posters who rag on every last thing about New And Improved Futurama, and perhaps they are a bit worthy of the writers' derision. But when fans are irked by, say, the murkiness of the Fry/Leela relationship (are they dating or not already, guys?), or the graceless callbacks to beloved episodes (those damn space bees in the Holiday Spectacular), it seems like the writers should recognize that those are perhaps areas that can be improved. It's not like I belong to PEEL because I think the writers will read my posts and see the errors of their ways--and I don't think fan service is always the right answer--but, shit, it wouldn't hurt DXC and company to consider the possibility that some of our dissatisfaction is justified.
The great irony in all this is that, if the Futurama writers were not, you know, working in Hollywood, but were just plain ol' thirty-something white guys with a nerdy streak, they would be us. They'd be the nitpicky internet people whose dedication to a particular series happens to manifest itself as, you know, the occasional critique of that show's flaws.
And as far as Ken Keeler goes: He sometimes seemed a bit ornery on the commentaries, so it's possible he absolutely hated doing them. But he was perhaps the most enlightening commentator, besides DXC, so it really is a shame that he's no longer participating.

Does anyone have images of the DVD menu, the DVD, not the Blu-Ray.
Or are they the same?

*bump* So, I calculated from Rebirth airing in the US (24th June 2010) to the Season 6A DVD/Blu-ray being released in the UK (26 December 2011), it has taken 550 days for Futurama to properly return to the UK.

The 3D models were a hoot to watch, spinning around hypnotically. I enjoyed them too! Especially when they showed a 3D model which didn't make the show!...
